The auction kicked off on Monday afternoon (February 13) and is making the headlines with many top players fetching big-fat cheques whereas some big names have already gone unsold. Indian opener Smriti Mandhana opened the proceedings and became the first-ever player to be sold in WPL when she was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 3.8 crores.</p>

According to BCCI, a total of 09 players went under the hammer on Monday at the Jio Convention Centre, in Mumbai. Interestingly, a total of 1525 players registered for the WPL auction on 13 February. The highest bracket of the Women’s Premier League is decided to be at Rs. 50 lakhs and the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and star opener Smriti Mandhana are some of the many players in this bracket. A total of five WPL teams will play against each other in the inaugural Women’s IPL 2023 season. The teams are Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriors, and Mumbai Indians.
