A newly prominent stock has emerged on Wall Street, attracting considerable interest from investors, with its primary shareholder being former US president Donald Trump.

Trump's social media venture, Trump Media & Technology Group, commenced trading on the Nasdaq on Tuesday (March 26) under the ticker DJT, experiencing an immediate surge in value, with a 40 percent gain in early trading.

The merger between Trump Media — the parent company of Truth Social, Trump’s primary platform for engaging supporters and addressing critics — and a cash-rich public shell company was finalised on Monday, following a significant rise in the shell company's stock price leading up to the deal.

This surge has been fuelled by fervent trading activity since the merger proposal was made in 2021. Trump Media now boasts an estimated market value exceeding $6 billion, surpassing that of established corporations like Alaska Airlines, Western Union, and American Eagle Outfitters.

The primary beneficiary of this market activity is Trump, who holds approximately 60 per cent of Trump Media’s shares, with his stake valued at over $4 billion.

Before the merger, shares of the shell company — Digital World Acquisition Corporation — had been indicative of investor sentiment towards Trump. This sentiment is likely to persist with the merged companies, particularly given Trump’s ongoing presence in the news with pending trials and potential presidential campaign activities.

From a conventional standpoint, Trump Media’s valuation appears unusually high. The company generated only $3.3 million in revenue from advertising on Truth Social during the first nine months of the previous year, with a recorded loss of $49 million.

This translates to a market value for Trump Media that is more than 1,000 times its estimated annual revenue. While investors sometimes assign optimistic valuations to small, loss-making companies in anticipation of rapid growth or speculative market behaviour, such valuations are typically not seen at this magnitude.

In comparison, other social media companies trade at significantly lower price-to-sales ratios than Trump Media: Reddit stands at around 10, Meta at 7, and Snap at 6, according to FactSet. Even high-performing tech stocks like Nvidia and ARM trade at price-to-sales ratios of approximately 25.

Investors who have shown interest in Digital World's stock have predominantly been individual investors, rather than institutional investment firms and hedge funds. On a message board dedicated to supporters of the merger on Truth Social, individual investors celebrated Trump Media's debut under its new stock symbol.

Given its trading patterns, Trump Media shares similarities with so-called "meme stocks" like GameStop and AMC Entertainment, which experienced significant surges in value driven by groups of amateur investors during the pandemic.

Digital World was established as a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), with the sole objective of raising capital from investors and subsequently merging with an operational business to create a publicly traded entity.

A total solar eclipse will grace the skies over North America on April 8, making its journey across Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Beginning from the South Pacific Ocean, the eclipse is expected to reach totality along Mexico’s Pacific coast at approximately 11:07 a.m. PDT.

Doctors warn against watching the eclipse with the naked eye

As the total solar eclipse approaches, eye specialists are issuing warnings about the potential risks of witnessing a solar eclipse with the naked eye. Directly viewing the sun, during an eclipse, can cause severe damage to the retina.

Understanding solar eclipses

The phenomenon when the moon comes in between the sun and the earth, causing sunlight to be blocked and casting a shadow on the Earth's surface is called a solar eclipse.

When the moon completely covers the sun, revealing the sun's outer atmosphere, which appears as a glowing ring, it is called a total solar eclipse.

Meanwhile, partial solar eclipses occur when the moon only partially blocks the sun.

Risks to eye health

Observing a solar eclipse without proper safety measures can lead to “eclipse blindness” or retinal burns, causing temporary or permanent damage to the retina.

It can also cause loss of central vision, distorted vision, and altered color perception.

How to watch solar eclipse safely

If you want to enjoy watching the solar eclipse then it is important to keep eye safety measures in mind.

During the total solar eclipse phase, use eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers to protect your eyes before and after totality.

Only during totality, when the sun's bright face is entirely obscured, is it safe to view the eclipse without eye protection. Immediately resume eye protection once any part of the sun becomes visible.

Don'ts of observing a solar eclipse

Avoid risking eye health by refraining from using smartphones or camera viewfinders to directly view the sun.

Never use unsafe filters, including sunglasses or unapproved optical devices, which can heighten the risk of eye damage.

Three boys, aged 11, 12, and 16, were caught for robbing a bank in Houston. Dubbed, "Little Rascals,” the three minors are currently in police custody.

In custody and charged

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that the youngsters are in custody and have been charged with robbery by threat, a second-degree felony. Due to their ages, no further details were disclosed.

FBI hunts for the trio, arrests them

The FBI’s Houston office had been on the lookout for them after they robbed a Wells Fargo bank in the Greenspoint area of north Houston on March 14. The FBI shared a picture of the trio, all wearing hoodies, taken inside the bank. "Recognize these "little rascals"? Believe it or not they just robbed the Wells Fargo at 10261 North Freeway. If you know who and where they are contact police immediately," FBI wrote on social media platform X on March 15.

Announcing their arrest, the FBI wrote, "All three bank robbery suspects known as the 'little rascals' are in custody. They are 11, 12, and 16 year-old boys charged locally with robbery by threat. Because they are juveniles, their names, and no additional details will be released."

How did the 'little rascals' pull off this heist?

According to reports by Houston’s ABC 13, the boys handed a threatening note to a teller and then fled on foot with an unspecified amount of cash. Although they did not show any specific weapon, the boys were believed to be armed.

Identification by parents and law enforcement

The parents of two boys recognised their children after their photos were released, while a third boy was identified by a law enforcement officer following an altercation. If they are found guilty, the boys may be placed on probation until they turn 18 or sent to juvenile prison until they turn 19.

The US Senate has approved a six-bill package of $460 billion to finance various federal government sectors in time to meet a midnight deadline until September, narrowly averting a partial shutdown.

The Senate on Friday approved a $460 billion package of spending bills for avoiding a shutdown of many key federal agencies.

The upper chamber voted 75 to 22, delivering the bill to President Joe Biden's desk just before the midnight deadline, with his expected signature on Saturday (March 9).

Republicans' insistence on amendment votes related to immigration and other measures slowed down the bill's progress, risking a final vote on Saturday after funding expiration.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer highlighted the bipartisan effort and emphasised the positive impact on essential programmes, expressing optimism about completing the remaining appropriation bills by March 22.

Schumer said the bill’s passage would allow the hiring of more air traffic controllers and rail safety inspectors, give federal firefighters a raise and boost support for homeless veterans, besides other things.

The House passed the package earlier in the week, relying on Democratic support to secure approval. Conservatives remained steadfast in opposing funding extensions that lacked preferred spending cuts and policy riders.

In a statement from the White House, the Office of Management and Budget confirmed the cessation of shutdown preparations, anticipating the bill's prompt signing by the President. The legislation covers agriculture, energy, environment, housing, transportation, veterans, and the Justice Department until the fiscal year's end on September 30.

Two women from USA’s Ohio state have been charged after driving a man's dead body to a bank and withdrawing $900 from his account, as per reports in local media.

Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, and Karen Casbohm, 63, allegedly drove the dead body of 80-year-old Douglas Layman to a drive-through bank window and made the withdrawal.

After withdrawing the amount, the duo disposed off the body at an emergency room at Ashtabula County Medical Centre without informing anyone about it.

After a few hours, one of the two women called the hospital and informed them about Layman, after which authorities were able to identify him.

It was not clear what caused Layman’s death and an autopsy to find out the cause would take at least eight months.

When officers reached Layman’s house later, they interrogated the two women, who claimed that he had died at his home in Ashtabula earlier in the day.

A US National Guard helicopter flying over the US-Mexico border crashed on Friday (Mar 8), said the US military. The plane had four people onboard, with at least three of them reportedly being dead. The fourth soldier sustained critical injuries.

The helicopter crashed near Rio Grande City and was assigned to the federal government’s border security mission at the time of the incident.

A statement by the Joint Taskforce North said the crash happened mid-afternoon while the helicopter was conducting aviation operations. According to Starr County judge Eloy Vera, the plane carried three male and one female soldier.

Texas Department of Public Safety South Regional Director Victor Escalon was quoted as saying by media that the crash involved "a military helicopter on federal orders working with Border Patrol."

The names of the soldiers involved in the accident were not revealed yet.

Helicopter not part of ‘Operation Lone Star’

Texas authorities confirmed that the helicopter was not part of "Operation Lone Star," Texas's border enforcement initiative using the National Guard and other law enforcement units.

Sources from the Border Patrol were quoted as saying by Fox News that members of a Mexican cartel were monitoring the helicopter with one of their drones when it crashed. They recorded footage of the wreckage and were heard laughing in a video shared on cartel social media platforms.

Review was ordered previously after two accidents

Residents of the Western US state of Utah are grappling with tumbleweeds following a massive storm over the weekend. Residents in South Jordan said the invasive weeds inundated roads, lanes, streets and houses as people urged the authorities to come to their rescue.

“Luckily, it’s something we can handle,” said Rachel Van Cleave, South Jordan communications manager. “This is not our first tumble-mageddon,” Cleave was quoted as saying by local media.

According to ABC4 news, strong winds of over 100km/h knocked trees over, uprooted power lines and damaged roads.

A US man who fatally shot a 20-year-old woman last year for mistakenly driving an SUV up his driveway was handed over 25 years in jail on Friday (Mar 1). Kevin Monahan shot Kaylin Gillis in the neck as she and her friends were turning back after realising their mistake. The group in the car was hunting for a party address before the deadly incident happened. Monahan later had said in his defence that he thought his property was under siege by intruders and he acted in self-defence.

Prosecutors claimed he “acted out of anger” and demanded a sentence of 25 years - the maximum. The court in January found the 66-year-old guilty of second-degree murder.

"I think it's important for people to know that it's not OK to shoot people and have them killed for turning down your driveway," Judge Adam Michelini reportedly said.

Monahan ‘had become agitated’

A neighbour of Monahan was later quoted as saying in media reports that he had become more agitated by people making wrong turns up his driveway, which was long and curvy.

Friends of Kaylin Gillis said the private property sign by the driveway was not clearly visible, leading them to the wrong way. As they were turning back, Monahan emerged on the porch and fired two shots at the SUV driven by Gillis’s boyfriend. The second shot hit Gillis in the neck, killing her.

Wisconsin’s Don Gorske defied expectations by reaching his 70s despite his life-threatening habit of consuming Big Mac hamburgers daily for over five decades. By reducing his Big Mac intake from nine to two per day, omitting fries, and incorporating a daily six-mile walk into his routine, Gorske not only achieved septuagenarian status but also prolonged his Guinness world record for the highest number of Big Macs eaten in a lifetime, surpassing a whopping 34,000.

For Gorske, McDonald's and its signature Big Macs have been integral to his identity, despite widespread health concerns associated with regular fast food consumption, including weight gain and heart disease due to the high calorie, sodium, sugar, and fat content.

How did it start?

His fondness for Big Macs began in 1972, with Gorske meticulously documenting each one he consumed since then, retaining receipts and burger containers as evidence. Despite his mother's initial attempts to curb his obsession by imposing a rule of one non-Big Mac meal per day, Gorske's dedication never wavered, eventually prompting his mother to give up in 1981.

Formerly a daily consumer of up to nine Big Macs, Gorske now eats McDonald's twice weekly, purchasing multiple Big Macs to microwave at home for later consumption. While he occasionally consumes snacks like ice cream, fruit bars, or potato chips, his loyalty to Big Macs remains steadfast.

Gorske maintains his physical fitness by skipping breakfast, abstaining from side servings with his Big Macs, and maintaining a daily six-mile walk routine. His dedication earned him the Guinness world record title in 1999, which he has continued to uphold, reaching over 34,000 Big Macs by consuming 728 in 2023 alone.

American federal judge overseeing the classified documents case against former president Donald Trump held a key hearing today (Mar 1) in Florida. Judge Aileen Cannon discussed several issues still unresolved, including setting the trial date and deciding whether to allow the former president to make public the identity of government investigators.

The hearing started at 10 am EST (8:30 pm IST) and continued in presence of Donald Trump.

Trial date

In filings submitted Thursday night (Feb 29), special counsel Jack Smith's office suggested to push back the trial date to July 8, whereas Trump’s side demanded the date be pushed back to August 12. Trump’s attorneys also floated the proposal to push the trial back until the November elections take place.

"As the leading candidate in the 2024 election, President Trump strongly asserts that a fair trial cannot be conducted this year in a manner consistent with the Constitution, which affords President Trump a Sixth Amendment right to be present and to participate in these proceedings" and "a First Amendment right that he shares with the American people to engage in campaign speech," they wrote.

Earlier during a November hearing, Judge Cannon suggested delaying the trial, referring to complaints from Trump’s side about the amount of discovery and documents that his legal team will have to review.

Man who attacked fellow passenger in US flight 'planned to kill him', faces criminal charge

A Utah judge sentenced vlogger Ruby Franke and her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt to 4 to 60 years behind bars on Tuesday (Feb 20) after the duo pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse.

Ruby Franke in her 10-page plea agreement admitted that she had kicked her son while wearing boots, tied him, and covered his mouth and nose with her hands so he could not breathe.

“Under the plea agreement, two more charges of aggravated child abuse for each woman were dropped,” Tania Mashburn, a spokeswoman for Utah State Courts was quoted as saying by media outlet People.

Ironically, Ruby Franke, a mother of six, used to give parenting advice via a once-popular YouTube channel called “8 Passengers".

How the matter came to light

Franke’s 12-year-old son, Russell, escaped through the window of Hildebrandt’s house in the southern Utah city of Ivins on Aug 30 last year and asked a neighbour for help.

The boy was thin, covered in wounds and had duct tape around his ankles and wrists. He told investigators that Hildebrandt had put ropes on his limbs and used cayenne pepper and honey to dress his cuts, according to a search warrant.

The two women were subsequently detained and charged with six counts of aggravated abuse.

While Franke pleaded guilty to four of six charges in a hearing on December 18, Hildebrandt saw two of her six charges dropped under the plea agreement.

But Russell was not the only child abused by the women.

Hildebrandt admitted before court to have asked Franke’s youngest daughter, a 9-year-old to jump into a cactus multiple times and run barefoot on dirt roads until her feet blistered.

The US military recently conducted a cyberattack against an alleged 'Iranian spy ship' which had been operating near the Chinese military base in Djibouti. The ship, named the MV Behshad, had allegedly been collecting information on cargo vessels in the Red Sea and communicating the same to the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Three US officials were quoted as saying by media reports that the cyberattack was in response to the drone attack by Iran-backed militias that killed three US service members in Jordan and wounded dozens of others.

The purpose of the attack

The US officials said the attack was carried out to sabotage the ship’s ability to transfer intel to the Houthi rebels, who were utilising the information to attack vessels in the Red Sea more effectively. The ship was reportedly operating near the port of Djibouti close to the Chinese military base.

Analysts believe that Iran may have chosen to move the ship near the Chinese base to discourage the US from carrying out a physical attack or boarding the vessel.

Iran’s stance

Iran denies that the ship was being used for military purposes. In a statement to NBC news, Iran’s UN ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, said the Behshad is in the Red Sea “to combat the piracy activities” and is not providing intelligence to Houthi forces.

US conducts cyberattack against Iranian ‘spy ship' to deter Houthi attacks in Red Sea

The Kremlin on Tuesday rejected Washington's accusations that Russia tried to disrupt the 2016 presidential vote and sought to demoralise African-Americans, calling the charges incomprehensible.

According to a new report for the US Senate, the primary goal of Russia's Internet Research Agency (IRA) was to deepen divisions in US society and convince Democrat-favouring liberals -- including Latinos, youths and the LGBTQ community -- not to vote.

The most extensive analysis yet of thousands of IRA ads and posts across social media in 2015-2017 showed an emphasis on provoking the anger of black Americans so that they would stay home on election day.

For example, the IRA-created account "Blacktivist" sent out messages on the Democratic candidate such as: "No lives matter to Hillary Clinton. Only votes matter to Hillary Clinton."

Another IRA account, "Black Matters", posted on Facebook: "Cops kill black kids. Are you sure that your son won't be the next?"

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the report by the Computational Propaganda Project at Oxford University and social media specialists Graphika caused "nothing but incomprehension."

"It voices absolutely general charges and accusations and some of them are absolutely unclear to us," Peskov told reporters on a conference call.

"We are reproached that someone critically thinks of a situation in this or that social sphere in the United States but it is not explained what Russia has to do with it," he said.

He reiterated Russia's long-standing position that any such claims were unfounded.

"The Russian state, the Russian government had and has nothing to do with any interference, especially one that is described in such abstract terms," Peskov added.

The IRA is believed to have been set up by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman close to Putin, as a propaganda tool.

Russia has been accused of manipulating the 2016 US presidential vote through a vast propaganda campaign in favour of Donald Trump.

US investigators are probing alleged collusion between Russian agents and Trump's campaign.

Another IRA account, "Black Matters", posted on Facebook: "Cops kill black kids. Are you sure that your son won't be the next?" Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the report by the Computational Propaganda Project at Oxford University and social media specialists Graphika caused "nothing but incomprehension." "It voices absolutely general charges and accusations and some of them are absolutely unclear to us," Peskov told reporters on a conference call.

A radio station had to go off air in US after thieves reportedly stole their 200ft transmission tower last week. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ordered the WJLX station, based out of Alabama, to shut down their radio channel after thieves took the station’s AM tower.

“In all my years of being in the business, around the business, everything like that, I have never seen anything like this,” WJLX’s general manager, Brett Elmore, was quoted as saying by the Guardian. “You don’t hear of a 200ft tower being stolen,” he added.

Elmore said he was first informed about the alleged theft by a landscaping crew that regularly manages the area nearby the tower. “They called me and said the tower was gone. And I said, ‘What do you mean, the tower is gone?’” Elmore said.

As per Elmore, police were also left stunned as he reported the theft of the 200ft tower. “They were just as stunned as I was. It’s unbelievable,” he said.

Elmore said the property was not insured and the company would need “$100,000 to $150,000” to replace the stolen tower, which he said was “more money than we have”.

The station still has its FM transmitter and tower intact but they are not allowed to operate while AM station is off the air. Notably, AM radio is broadcast between 540 and 1600 kilohertz, while FM radio is broadcast between 88.1 and 108.1 megahertz.

“This is a huge loss,” Elmore said. “People have reached out and asked how they can help, but I don’t know how you can help unless you have a 200ft tower and an AM transmitter.”

Since the theft took place, people in the area have come up with different theories as to what happened to the tower.

“I had a guy from Virginia call yesterday and say, ‘You know, I think a helicopter grabbed [the tower],’” Elmore said.

An ex-US Army helicopter pilot, who claims to have spent three months with aliens, said that humanity could be closer than ever to discovering ‘alien ruins’ everywhere in space.

Alex Collier says he “spoke to two aliens” in the 1980s, who told him that humans are still looking at only one dimension in space and there are trillions of galaxies out there.

Collier has allegedly spent time with two Andromedians, an alien species who some UFO enthusiasts say are ancestors of humans, named Vissaeus and Moroanay.

Humans close to finding ‘alien ruins’ everywhere, ex-US pilot claims after ‘speaking’ to aliens

The US Department of Defense on Monday (Jan 29) identified three US soldiers who were killed in a deadly drone strike on a US military outpost in Jordan. The three fallen soldiers—William Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia; Specialist Kennedy Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia; and Specialist Breonna Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia—were assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, a US Army Reserve unit based out of Fort Moore, Georgia.

Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh said Monday at least 40 more people were injured in the attack, a number which is likely to increase as some others are showing symptoms of traumatic brain injury. Of those, at least eight were taken to the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center.

Who was William Rivers?

William Rivers was enlisted in the Army Reserve in 2011 as an Interior Electrician or 12R. Following the completion of his advanced individual training, Rivers was first assigned to the 990th Engineer Company at Fort McGuire-Dix in New Jersey.

In 2018, he also completed a nine-month rotation to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker in a statement expressed grief over the killing, saying, “His death is a profound loss to his family, friends, colleagues, and our entire country, and a reminder of the heavy debt we owe to our military families for their sacrifice.”

Forget Hollywood movies, the US as of today is not able to defend itself should an alien invasion take place, according to a recent statement by the US Department of Defense (DoD). The statement was based on an analysis of the nation’s ability to respond to a threat posed by unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), formerly UFOs.

It must be noted that the Pentagon had formed the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) back in July 2022 to handle all UAP affairs. Now, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) has expressed its doubts over the USA’s ability to fend off the threat of an alien invasion.

Inspector General Robert P Storch said he was making this summary public in order to bring some transparency to the subject, otherwise shrouded in mystery.

“We are releasing this unclassified summary to be as transparent as possible with the American people about our oversight work on this important issue,” he added.
