Ahead of the much-awaited September 10 (Tuesday) debate, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday (Sep 7) at a rally in Wisconsin accused his democrat rivals President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of running a "rouge regime". A leftist dictatorship? Trump, who in December of last year had promised if elected he'll only be a dictator for one day, unleashed a tirade of insults and dark imagery against Harris. Speaking to supporters in Mosinee, Wisconsin, Trump painted a grim picture of a dystopian America, run by a leftist dictatorship, as per news agency AFP reports. Elon Musk and former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have sparked controversy online, claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris would want to "shut down" X (formerly Twitter) if it fails to comply with government oversight. What evidence do they have? The two men shared a clip from a 2019 CNN interview with Harris where she criticised social media platforms for "directly speaking to millions and millions of people without any level of oversight and regulation," a practice she said "has to stop." Kennedy, sharing his interpretation of the remark from the five-year-old interview, wrote: "Translation: If they don't police content to conform to government-approved narratives, they will be shut down." Kamala Harris: "He [Musk] has lost his privileges." Can someone please explain to her that freedom of speech is a RIGHT, not a "privilege"? In the 2019 interview, Harris called for the shutdown of Trump's Twitter account because of its influence on society, including its role in spreading harmful narratives. Citing the El Paso shooter’s manifesto as an example, she argued that Trump's rhetoric had real-world consequences. "When you're talking about Donald Trump, he has 65 million Twitter followers, he has proven himself to be willing to obstruct justice – just ask Bob Mueller. You can look at the manifesto from the shooter in El Paso to know that what Donald Trump says on Twitter impacts peoples' perceptions about what they should and should not do," she said. She then said Trump's account "should be taken down" for violating the site's terms of service. Harris also spoke of regulating social media platforms so that the words of popular figures like Trump can't become a bad influence on millions of users. "And the bottom line is that you can’t say that you have one rule for Facebook and you have a different rule for Twitter. US Vice President Kamala Harris has openly slammed her political rival Donald Trump for using footage from his visit to Arlington National Cemetery in a campaign video, calling it "a political stunt".

US Vice President Kamala Harris has openly slammed her political rival Donald Trump for using footage from his visit to Arlington National Cemetery in a campaign video, calling it "a political stunt". Harris emphasised the "sacred" nature of the cemetery, where fallen American soldiers are laid to rest, and said it should not be used for political purposes. Trump's visit to the graves of 13 service members, killed during the 2021 US withdrawal from Afghanistan, was meant as a campaign boost but has instead sparked backlash, particularly after footage from the event was posted by his campaign. What did Kamala Harris say? "Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt," said the Democratic Party presidential candidate Harris. Harris also highlighted Trump's history of derogatory comments about military service members, referencing his controversial remarks about veterans such as Senator John McCain and fallen World War I soldiers. "This is nothing new from Donald Trump. This is a man who has called our fallen service members 'suckers' and 'losers' and disparaged Medal of Honour recipients," she wrote. The United States Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance is in a pickle once again. An audio recording of his from October 2021 has been shared by political rival Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris' campaign. In it, Vance can be heard insulting educators and once again spewing hatred towards "childless" women. What did Vance say? As per reports, Trump's running mate, who was speaking at a forum held by the Center for Christian Virtue, attacked "leaders on the left" and a teacher who did not have children. Vance targeted Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, for not having children. "So many of the leaders of the left, and I hate to be so personal about this, but they’re people without kids trying to brainwash the minds of our children, that really disorients me and disturbs me." Randi Weingarten hits back at Vance On X, Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, reposted the Vance audio shared by Kamala HQ, calling it "gross". "Gross! JD Vance's comments are sad and insulting to millions of modern families, and school teachers, including Catholic nuns, none of whom should be targeted for their family decisions," she said. Less than a month after stepping up as the Democratic presidential candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining momentum in the race, moving ahead in polls and attracting large crowds at rallies across the United States. This week, the presumptive presidential candidate for the Democratic Party also landed on the cover of Time Magazine. Kamala Harris' TIME cover has earned itself an unlikely admirer: Donald Trump, her political rival. In his recent August 12 interview with Elon Musk on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Trump described Harris as a "beautiful woman". So far, so good, right? What can be construed as problematic is that Trump did not stop there. The Republican widely known for his anti-immigrant and at times blatantly racist comments went on to compare Harris' beauty with his wife Melania Trump. Was Trump whitewashing Kamala Harris? Just a few days back, Donald Trump questioned Kamala Harris's racial identity as a Black woman. In a controversial interaction with African American journalists in Chicago on Jul 31, former President Trump suggested that Kamala Harris had "turned Black" for political purposes. He falsely claimed Kamala had initially identified as Indian, but "all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she became a Black person." "She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live," Trump remarked, seemingly downplaying her racial identity by comparing her to a different standard of beauty. "It was a drawing, and actually, she looked very much like a great first lady, Melania," he said. His comment can be seen merely as superficial praise. However, Trump also said that, "She didn't look like Kamala," which can also be seen as an attempt to whitewash Kamala Harris' identity as a person of colour and a try to box her into the traditional, Eurocentric standards of beauty. "But of course, she's a beautiful woman, so we'll leave it at that," added Trump. A U-turn on Harris? Despite this compliment, Trump as usual didn't hold back on criticising Harris and her campaign. He accused the media of giving Harris a "free ride" and not scrutinising her views adequately since she became the Democratic candidate. He also took a jab at Harris for avoiding interviews, a move that has been seized upon by Republicans as a sign of reluctance to engage with the media. In the same conversation with Musk, he accused Harris of attempting to mimic his policies, specifically citing her recent pledge to eliminate tax on tips—a policy Trump had previously proposed. He further claimed that Harris was trying to position herself as "more Trump than Trump," a tactic he dismissed as insincere. The interview, which was delayed due to a reported cyberattack on X, also saw Trump veer into discussions on global warming, nuclear proliferation, and even the idea of moving to Venezuela if he loses the upcoming election.
