Kamala Harris, on Saturday (Oct 26) told voters she would prosecute her political rival Donald Trump "in 10 days".

Addressing a cheering crowd in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Harris told her supporters that before she was vice president, she was an attorney general and before that, she was a prosecutor, and in that role, she "took on perpetrators of all kinds — predators, fraudsters, and repeat offenders."

"I took them on, and I won," said the Democratic presidential election nominee.

"In 10 days, it's Donald Trump's turn," said Harris to loud cheers.

US Election: Harris pledges to 'prosecute' Trump 'in 10 days' as Michelle Obama voices 'genuine fear'

The presidential election in the United States (US) is just a few days away. The top contenders in the November 5 election are Donald Trump (Republican Party) and Kamala Harris (Democratic Party). Voters across the country are gearing up to vote for their preferred candidate who will lead the country for the next four years. Millions of voters have already cast their ballot early, both by mail and in person. In the run-up to election day, a question arises- can American citizens who do not have a permanent address be allowed to vote? Here is what the government says: 'You don't need a home to vote' According to vote.gov, American citizens do not require a home or a permanent address to cast their vote in elections. "If you are a homeless service provider, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness has more resources for helping people vote," the website states. There are certain things to keep in mind while voting: > Each state and territory has its own voter ID (identification) rules. You may not need an ID to register to vote, but in most states, you must bring identification to vote in person. > In case you do not have an ID, you can get it at your state motor vehicle office, even if you do not drive. You may need to pay to get an ID card, but some organisations may be able to help you pay the ID fee. Some states also offer ID cards for free or at a reduced cost for unhoused people. The mailing address does not have to be a fixed home address. If you do not have a fixed home address to get mail, you can use a different address as your mailing address. > According to the government, some examples of a mailing address are- a nearby shelter if you don't live there, a nearby religious centre, and the home address of a family member who lives nearby. > If you're homeless or do not have a permanent address, you can use a description of the place where you live or sleep as your home address, such as a park or the intersections of street corners. > However, this description cannot be used as your mailing address. What happens if you move after you register to vote? If you move after you have registered to vote, make sure to call or visit your local election office to update both your home and mailing address. Many states allow you to update your address on your state’s election website. You can also call or visit your local election office to update your address. After you update your address, you can vote in elections in your new location, the government says. In some states, you must live at your address for a certain number of days before you can register to vote there.

US presidential election 2024: Can you vote in polls without a permanent address?

As the United States prepares to go to polls on November 5, along with the economy, immigrants and health care, abortion rights also stand out as a major election issue. Ten states will be voting to enshrine abortion in their states' laws. These include Montana, Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, New York and South Dakota.

Voters in these states are being asked to decide how their state should regulate abortion. The topic can act as a game-changer in the presidential elections. In the seven swing states, the vote will act as referendums to gauge how much the right to have an abortion can affect a tight presidential election.

The Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in 2022 after which many states went on to enact abortion restrictions or bans. Pro-choice advocates are hoping that enshrining abortion in states' laws in the elections can help bypass the ups and downs of state courts.

Abortion rights in 2020 elections

In August 2020, abortion was not a big topic to vote on among both Democrats and Republicans. Only around 40 per cent of voters at the time said abortion was a very important issue to their vote. It mattered more to Trump voters (46%) than Biden voters (35%).

However, after Roe v. Wade was overturned, things changed for it as a voting issue. Pew Research says 67 per cent of Harris supporters say it is an extremely important issue. This is nearly double what Biden voters said four years back. During the midterm elections in 2022, this number stood at 74 per cent.

Among Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump supporters, this number is 35 per cent today, 11 points lower than in 2020.

So, for Democrats, the matter assumes extreme importance. The party is hoping for a larger voter turnout by those who support abortion rights since the topic is on the ballot.

The Dobbs Decision

Swing states can reasonably be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate. In the US, voters in certain states largely lean towards a single party and so are known as "safe states". Such states are also known as "red states" where Republicans enjoy more support and "blue states" where Democrats have a bigger backing.

Abortion in swing states is expected to be a major issue this time. These states will largely decide the country’s next president and federal leaders. They are undecided and how they vote will be a referendum on the right to abortion.

The Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision in 2022 saw the US Supreme Court stating that the Constitution of the United States does not confer a right to abortion. Both Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992) were overruled by it.

The Dobbs decision was widely criticised for bringing about changes around abortion. Experts say it has made abortion the top issue among voters, and in swing states, it will be a deciding factor.

“What we’ve seen in every election since the Dobbs decision is that abortion is at the top of mind for voters — and it’s not just helping voters decide who or what to vote for. It’s actually a turnout driver,” Ryan Stitzlein, vice president of political and government relations at national lobbying group Reproductive Freedom for All, told Stateline.

Swing states are being flooded with anti-abortion money where lobbying groups Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and Women Speak Out PAC are working against the rights.

Trump and other GOP candidates have been focussing on the most controversial type of abortions and those performed in the third trimester while calling Democrats champions of infanticide during campaign rallies.

Going by research polls and the current sentiment, abortion rights are expected to bring in more voters on polling day and play a major role in deciding who wins the White House.

An Iranian hacking group is currently targeting US election websites and media outlets as Election Day approaches, according to a blog post from Microsoft on Wednesday (Oct 23). The research shows that this may be part of a plan for "preparations for more direct influence operations."

While the research of election-related websites occurred back in April, Microsoft analysts have only recently uncovered the activity. Additionally, the hackers reportedly conducted surveillance on major US media outlets in May, as per the tech giant.

Microsoft researchers noted, "Cotton Sandstorm will increase its activity as the election nears given the group's operational tempo and history of election interference." This is concerning given the group's previous attempts to meddle in elections.

A representative for Iran’s mission to the United Nations dismissed the accusations, saying, "Such allegations are fundamentally unfounded and wholly inadmissible." They added, "Iran neither has any motive nor intent to interfere in the US election."

This incident is the latest indication of attempts by hacking groups from Iran, Russia, and China to either sway or monitor the US election as the presidential campaign reaches its final stages.

Back in 2020, Cotton Sandstorm carried out another cyber operation just before the presidential election. Posing as members of the far-right group "Proud Boys," the hackers sent numerous emails to Florida voters, warning them to "vote for Trump or else!"

The group also posted a video on social media, allegedly from hacktivists, showing an election system being probed. Although the operation did not directly affect voting systems, the primary aim was to create confusion, panic, and doubt, according to senior US officials at the time.

After the 2020 election, Cotton Sandstorm launched a separate operation that encouraged violence against US election officials who rejected allegations of widespread voter fraud, Microsoft said.

Election security in focus: Protecting the vote

Donald Trump's campaign has lodged a formal complaint against the UK's Labour Party, accusing it of meddling in the upcoming US presidential election. The complaint, filed with the Federal Election Commission, claims that the British party has been recruiting members to campaign on behalf of Trump's political rival, Democratic Party presidential nominee, US Vice-President Kamala Harris, in key battleground states.

Blatant foreign interference

In a letter rife with historical references, including the American Revolution, Trump's legal team requested an immediate investigation into "blatant foreign interference".

It stated, "When representatives of the British government previously sought to go door-to-door in America, it did not end well for them."

The letter noted the recent 243rd anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown and said "This past week marked the 243 anniversary of the surrender of British forces at the Battle of Yorktown, a military victory that ensured that the United States would be politically independent of Great Britian." Here, Trump's campaign misspelt Britain, whether by mistake or on purpose, it is not known.

The Trump campaign's grievance centres around reports that Labour Party volunteers have been campaigning for Harris. According to the Guardian, these volunteers are campaigning on their own, not in an official capacity.

However, the letter demands an investigation into what it claims are "apparent illegal foreign national contributions made by the Labour Party of the United Kingdom," to Harris's campaign.

It then goes on to refer to a "volunteer exemption" in US election law that allows foreign nationals to volunteer but prohibits compensation of any type.

"They (foreign nationals) may not be compensated, foreign nationals may not make expenditures, and they may not direct or control activities of US campaigns," states the letter.

The complaint cites a since-deleted LinkedIn post by Sofia Patel, head of operations at the Labour Party, in which she reportedly mentioned that 100 current and former party members were heading to the US to campaign.

Susie Wiles, co-manager of Trump's campaign, described the situation as another instance of foreign influence aimed at undermining the will of the American people. She stated, "In two weeks, Americans will once again reject the oppression of big government that we rejected in 1776. The flailing Harris-Walz campaign is seeking foreign influence to boost its radical message—because they know they can’t win the American people."

"Hands off my porn," proclaims the latest election campaign in the United States, urging voters to refrain from voting for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

While Trump infamously made headlines for his connection to Stormy Daniels, a porn star, the American adult industry believes that if re-elected, he would be the reason for the industry's shutdown. To save their livelihoods, they've launched the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign, spending $200,000 so far on ads.

Thanks to this campaign, people watching porn in America are now seeing ads asking them to vote on Nov 5, to "keep doing this".

Appearing before the pornographic content, porn stars tell the viewer: "Hey, I know you're busy. I know you're doing something. Hold on. If you want to keep doing this, you really need to vote on November 5... Enjoy!"

The campaign, as per AFP, is mainly targeted at men, a demographic in which Trump enjoys a strong lead, all thanks to his machismo-drenched pitch.

According to the Institute for Family Studies, men are four times more likely than women to watch porn. These "public service announcements" are being played for viewers in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia.

Donald Trump, himself, has no hate for the adult entertainment industry and has not made any statements about shutting it down.

However, Project 2025, the notorious Republican blueprint for reshaping the US federal government explicitly, in its foreword states: "Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned."

While Trump has tried to distance himself from the hard-right Republican manifesto, dozens of his allies and dozens of his former administration members co-wrote the exhaustive 900-page document.

Holly Randall, 26-year-old former pornstar, now adult content producer, said: "I've seen these attacks come and go.... Project 2025, is the most explicit iteration of wanting to completely outlaw porn."

The industry veteran warned that a ban on the porn industry could be a "lightning rod" for wider issues such as trans rights, same-sex marriage and even reproductive rights.

"It's always the easiest thing to attack, because it represents people's uncertainty and fear about the changing morals of sexuality and of gender fluidity," she remarked.

Randall acknowledged that Trump "doesn't actually care whether or not it's outlawed," but said, "It's the people around him, like (Trump running mate) J.D. Vance, these ultra-right-wing conservatives, who want to ban porn."

Another porn star Siouxsie Q, while talking to AFP, expressed worry about being arrested. "Absolutely, I am worried about imprisonment," she said.

Speaking at a Trump rally in North Carolina on October 22, Gabbard announced, "I'm proud to stand here with you today, President Trump, and announce that I'm joining the Republican Party." As she joined Trump on the stage, Gabbard admired the former president for his "leadership that transformed the Republican Party and brought it back to the party of the people and the party of peace." Sharing the video of the rally on X, the former Democrat wrote, "For independent-thinkers like myself, there is no home in the Democrat Party. However, there is a home for us in the Republican Party." Trump’s GOP is a big open tent party of the people, equality, commonsense, and the party that is led by a President who has the courage and strength to fight for peace." Gabbard also urged voters to cast their ballot for the Democratic nominee and said Trump is the "only hope" for saving the nation. "President Trump is our best and only hope in this election to lead our country toward a future where every one of us can live in a truly free, peaceful, and prosperous nation. Recently, Gabbard again attacked Harris saying she is a "new figurehead for the deep state" and would be "incredibly dangerous" as the US president. (With inputs from agencies)

'Trump is only hope': Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard to join Republican party

A judge in Michigan on Monday rejected an effort by the Republican Party to block some Americans who are living overseas from voting in the battleground state.

The Republican National Committee filed a lawsuit earlier this month arguing that election laws in the state improperly allowed US citizens living abroad who had never lived in Michigan - but whose relatives had - to vote there.

Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel said in a ruling that the language being challenged by Republicans was consistent with federal and state law.

"There is no ground to invalidate it," Patel wrote.

A U.S. citizen who never lived in the US but who has a parent, legal guardian or spouse who last lived in Michigan is eligible to vote in the state so as long as the citizen has not registered or voted in another state, according to Michigan's secretary of state election officials manual.

At the time the lawsuit was filed, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said citizens living in Michigan should not have "their votes cancelled by those who've never lived in the state."

The RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ruling.

Some 2.9 million US citizens living abroad were eligible to vote in 2020, though fewer than 8% of them did, according to the Federal Voting Assistance Program, a government entity that helps military members and other US citizens living abroad with election logistics.

US Elections: Michigan judge rejects GOP bid to block overseas voters in key battleground state

Former US President and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a rally in North Carolina on Monday (Oct 21) told his audience that the election choice is between incompetence and greatness.

Earlier the same day, Trump, in North Carolina, while surveying damage from Hurricane Helene, criticised the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for its response, accusing it of mishandling funds and resources.

Speaking at the Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum, Trump said, "This election is a choice between whether we will have four more years of incompetence and stupidity and failure and disaster, or whether we will begin the four greatest years in the history of our country".

A key theme of Trump's rally was border security. He lambasted the Biden administration for what he described as a complete failure to handle immigration.

Singling out his political rival Vice President Kamala Harris for her role, Trump said, "Biden put this total stupid person in charge of our border… She said, 'Keep those borders open. Let everybody come in'."

He vowed that if elected on November 5, he would end what he called a "migrant invasion" and use the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 "to target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American soil."

Blasting FEMA, Trump in North Carolina, while surveying damage from Hurricane Helene, once again accused the agency of mishandling funds and resources. This claim, as per reports, was debunked weeks ago by US Rep. Chuck Edwards.

When asked if his criticism might affect election results in the state, Trump brushed it off, suggesting FEMA had failed to help adequately because it was distracted by helping illegal migrants.

Musk: A mega contributor to Trump and the US election landscape

As the 2024 U.S. election approaches, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are intensifying efforts to win over undecided voters. Trump is focusing on economic policies and national security, while Harris emphasizes social justice, healthcare, and working-family support. Both aim to sway key swing voters in a highly competitive race.

US Elections 2024: Donald Trump and Kamala Harris Try To Woo Undecided Voters

The US Presidential elections are approaching and candidates Kamala Harris, Donald Trump and their running mates Tim Walz and JD Vance are busy trading barbs at each other. These often include discussions on LGBTQIA+ issues like transgender health care, abortion rights, etc.

Here’s a guide to help you understand what Harris, Trump and their parties have said about queer rights in the country.

Rise Of The Queer Voter

Amidst the many issues facing the American voter, LGBTQIA+ or queer rights is a prominent one. According to a poll by Gallup, 7.6 per cent of all adult Americans identify as queer. Thus, they form a significant voting bloc and are likely to shape national politics in the future.

Donald Trump, JD Vance and the Republican Party

Former President Donald Trump has long been at odds with the queer community. He has been very vocal about transgender issues and vowed to keep ‘men out of women's sports.’

The Trump 1.0 administration imposed the ban in 2017 but later allowed serving transgender persons to continue working.

Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s history with LGBTQIA+ issues is more convoluted.

According to a New York Times report, Vance was once a ‘close friend’ of Sofia Nelson, a former Yale Law School classmate, who identifies as transgender. According to Nelson, Vance had earlier expressed his disdain for Trump and attended the San Francisco Pride march. But, he allegedly changed his views after being in power.

Harris met controversy when she appeared to suggest gender-affirming care for prisoners, something which Trump famously pointed out in the September Presidential speech.

US Elections 2024: Where do Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, Tim Walz and JD Vance stand on LGBTQIA+ rights?

Elon Musk, at a town hall hosted by America PAC in Pennsylvania on Saturday (Oct 19), echoed former president Donald Trump's unfounded conspiracy theories regarding voting machines and their potential to rig elections, calling for paper ballots.

Despite numerous debunking of such claims, Musk asserted, "I'm a technologist, I know a lot about computers…And I'm like, the last thing I would do is trust a computer program, because it's just too easy to hack".

Musk, as per ABC News, specifically mentioned Dominion Voting Systems, which recently settled a $787 million defamation lawsuit against Fox News for spreading false claims about its role in the 2020 election.

He linked Dominion to electoral losses for Republicans in Philadelphia and Arizona, suggesting it was "weird" that certain areas used these voting machines while others did not.

"There's always a sort of question of like, say, the Dominion voting machines. It is weird that the, you know, I think they're used in Philadelphia and in Maricopa County, but not in a lot of other places," said the Tesla CEO.

"Doesn't that seem like a heck of a coincidence?" he asked.

He concluded by advocating for a shift to exclusively using paper ballots. "Only do paper ballots, hand-counted," said Musk.

His comments come amid growing political involvement, having previously shown strong support for former President Donald Trump, including substantial financial contributions to his political action committee.

Dominion quickly rebutted Musk's assertions, clarifying that their machines do not operate in Philadelphia and that most jurisdictions already use paper ballots.

A spokesperson of the company stated, "Fact: Dominion does not serve Philadelphia County. Fact: Dominion's voting systems are already based on voter verified paper ballots. Fact: Hand counts and audits of such paper ballots have repeatedly proven that Dominion machines produce accurate results. These are not matters of opinion. They are verifiable facts."

Maricopa County officials also confirmed the accuracy of their voting machines, noting that a hand count after the election "found zero variances between hand count results and the Dominion tabulation equipment."

Fact: Hand counts and audits of such paper ballots have repeatedly proven that Dominion machines produce accurate results. These are not matters of opinion. They are verifiable facts." Maricopa County officials also confirmed the accuracy of their voting machines, noting that a hand count after the election "found zero variances between hand count results and the Dominion tabulation equipment." As the US presidential election approaches, young voters are emerging as a pivotal group that can possibly shape the political landscape. With approximately 8 million first-time voters in Generation Z or Gen Z and a significant portion of the electorate comprising those under 35 or millennials, their influence cannot be underestimated.

What do Gen Z and millennials, also known as Gen Y, truly care about? Economic issues, particularly inflation, housing affordability and job prospects, drive many young Americans to the polls, underscoring a shift in priorities compared to previous election cycles, according to analysts.

Historically, young voters have been motivated issues like health care, social justice, and climate change. But in the current election cycle, economic concerns have taken centrestage. Many young people find themselves grappling with the harsh realities of a financial landscape that seems increasingly inhospitable.

Rising rents, stagnant wages, and a general increase in the cost of living have created an environment where financial stability feels out of reach. The pressure to make ends meet has intensified, leading many to prioritise economic growth and income inequality as their top concerns.

Compounding the economic challenges is the fact that they are entering a workforce characterised by precarious conditions. Many young people are in gig economy jobs or part-time positions that offer little in terms of social security or benefits.

As they navigate these uncertainties, the promise of economic opportunity becomes increasingly vital.

The burden of student debt exacerbates their financial woes, leading many to question the viability of traditional pathways to success, such as home ownership.

This economic discontent has sparked a renewed interest in political engagement among young voters. Many are recognising that their futures are directly tied to decisions made by elected officials, prompting them to seek out candidates who address their concerns.

This shift is evident in the increasing turnout rates among young voters in recent elections. In 2020, voter turnout among this demographic was the highest in decades, indicating a growing awareness of the importance of their political participation.

So is it going to be Kamala Harris or Donald Trump for them? Candidates who can effectively communicate their plans to alleviate economic hardship stand to gain support from this voting bloc. As Democrats and Republicans vie for the favour of young voters, there's an increased focus on issues like student loan forgiveness, housing subsidies, and economic reform.

Engaging young voters requires not only policy proposals but also a genuine connection to their lived experiences. The ability to resonate with their concerns can be a decisive factor in winning their support.

Role of social media: The rise of political influencers

Social media has played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape for young voters. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram have become avenues for political discourse, where candidates can connect directly with their audience.

The rise of influencers in politics signifies a new era of engagement, where traditional campaign methods are supplemented by more relatable and accessible forms of communication.

This shift has encouraged younger generations to participate in political discussions and mobilise their peers, further amplifying their impact on the election.

The emphasis on economic issues has also led to a wave of young candidates stepping forward to represent their communities. Many young individuals are recognising the importance of having representatives who understand their struggles firsthand.

This influx of young voices into politics is not just about seeking office; it is about reshaping the narrative and priorities of political discourse. The desire for representation drives many to run for office, creating a new generation of leaders who can advocate for policies that directly address the needs of their constituents.

But will they turn up to vote?

Despite the enthusiasm among young voters, challenges remain. Voter turnout among younger demographics, while improving, still lags behind older age groups. In the 2020 election, only about half of eligible voters aged 18-29 participated, compared to higher turnout rates among those aged 35 and older.

The current political landscape offers a unique opportunity for candidates to harness the power of young voters. As economic issues take precedence, the focus on tangible solutions and empathetic leadership is paramount.

US elections, Gen Z and Gen Y: Kamala Harris or Donald Trump for young voters?

The United States electoral process is a complex system that has been in place for over two centuries. It's a unique blend of federalism and democracy, designed to ensure that the president is elected through a fair and representative process.

The Electoral College: How It Works

At the heart of the US electoral process is the Electoral College, a group of 538 electors chosen by each state to cast votes for president and vice president. The number of electoral votes is equal to the number of members each state has in the House of Representatives plus the number of Senators (two per state).

The District of Columbia has three electoral votes. To win the presidency, a candidate must receive at least 270 electoral votes.

The Election Process: Step-By-Step Breakdown

- Primaries and Caucuses: Candidates compete in state-level contests to win delegates.

- Party Conventions: Delegates choose their party's nominee.

- General Election: The nominated candidates compete nationwide.

- Electoral College Vote: Electors cast votes for president and vice president.

- Inauguration: The elected president and vice president take office.

Key Players and Their Roles

- Voters: Cast ballots for president and vice president.

- Electors: Chosen by states to cast electoral votes.

- Congress: Counts electoral votes and declares the winner.

Challenges and Controversies

The electoral system has faced criticism for:

- Disproportionate Representation: Some argue that smaller states have more voting power per capita.

Understanding the US electoral process: A guide

2024 US Elections: In just a few weeks, on November 5, the United States of America will vote to elect its next president.

The two top candidates in this vital race for the White House are the Democratic Party nominee, the current US Vice-president Kamala Harris, and the Republican Party nominee, former president Donald Trump.

The upcoming 2024 presidential elections are very important to both the candidates. On one hand, Kamala Harris has set her sights on becoming the USA's first-ever female president and on the other, Donald Trump is attempting to achieve a feat only accomplished once earlier in US history: regaining the White House after losing it.

Driving the 2024 US Presidential elections are a number of issues of importance to voters. Let's take a look at some of the key issues and where the two candidates stand on them.

Economy

Amid concerns about the US' state of economy and inflation, about eight in 10, or 81 per cent of the voters, as per Pew Research, say that the economy will be very significant to their vote in the upcoming election.

Billionaire 'dying' to be US' 'secretary of cost-cutting,' says ex-president

Voters, as per reports, favour Trump on this issue and, according to News Gallup, 54 per cent in contrast to Harris's 45 per cent think he can better handle the American economy as the president.

Reproductive Rights and Abortion

One of the most contentious issues of the 2024 Presidential elections is abortion and reproductive rights of women.

A Pew Research poll found that while 67 per cent of Harris supporters view abortion as a key issue, only 35 per cent of Trump supporters share their view.

In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade, which gave women all over the nation the right to abortion. This happened largely due to justices appointed by Trump, a feat the Republican has boasted about multiple times.

Harris has been vocal about her support for bringing back the federal protections for a woman's right to an abortion as they existed under Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, Trump, who at one time supported a national ban on the procedure, has softened his stance and now backs the individual state's right to choose.

A key issue and one of Trump's favourite topics, immigration, is important for 82 per cent of his supporters. Meanwhile, only 39 per cent of Harris supporters see it as vital to their vote.

Trump in his rally speeches and at the two debates — with President Joe Biden and Harris — has continued to vilify immigrants, calling them rapists, murderers, etc. Meanwhile, Harris, who has faced criticism for her immigration policies as the VP, has not detailed her position on the topic beyond voicing support for a border security bill.

Gun Policy

America is home to more guns than people, and they are to blame for a staggering number of deaths every year — over 48,000 in 2022, for example.

Despite the gun epidemic, i.e., the unbelievably high number of mishappening, and deaths due to guns, the Right to Bear arms remains a contentious issue.

For both Trump and Harris supporters, gun policies and/or gun rights are important. Among the supporters of the Republican candidate, 53 said the issue was key to them. 49 per cent of Harris supporters also share the sentiment.

Donald Trump has been a vocal supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, and has even positioned himself as a "defender" of the right. As the president, he loosened some restrictions on gun ownership, appointed around 200 federal judges who had "gun-friendly" records, and even ensured that gun sales would continue during the early COVID-19 lockdowns.

His running mate JD Vance even went as far as calling the tragic school shootings that have become very common "a fact of life".

Harris, according to Scientific American, has a long history with the gun rights. During her career as a prosecutor, she supported stricter restrictions on gun ownership, as well as stronger enforcement of existing regulations. As a senator, she worked on legislation that would've mandated universal background checks. As a VP, she and Biden introduced US' first sweeping gun legislation in nearly three decades that enforced stronger background checks, and included a measure to keep guns away from domestic abuse offenders.
