WION Fineprint | Elon Musk back on Twitter with Pope's picture after 10 days

The 51-year-old business tycoon, Elon Musk, has not tweeted in about 10 days and it can’t go unnoticed. Musk, the world’s richest person has 100 million followers on the microblogging site, which he is planning to buy.

His continued absence is unusual as the tech billionaire is known to be highly vocal on social media. Twitterati react to Elon Musk's absence on Twitter

It is the end of an era in English cricket as Eoin Morgan confirmed his international retirement on Tuesday (June 28). The ODI World Cup-winning skipper Morgan was expected to remain captain till this year's T20 World Cup, or 2023 50-over showpiece event in India, however, he decided to step aside after a dismal run with the bat for the past year and fitness concerns.

"To call time on what has been without doubt the most enjoyable and rewarding chapter of my career hasn't been an easy decision, but I believe now is the right time to do so, both for me, personally, and for both England white-ball sides I have led to this point," said Morgan in a statement issued by the England Cricket Board (ECB).

Thus, reactions have been pouring in from the cricket fraternity for Morgan, who retires as an absolute legend for England cricket in white-ball formats. The Irish-born swashbuckling left-hander started his career playing for his national side before switching to England. He ended his career with 700 runs in Tests and 7,701 and 2,458 runs in ODIs and T20Is, respectively, including 16 tons overall. Here are some of the reactions on Twitter:

The filing also said that the board thinks that selling Twitter to the Tesla CEO is “fair to, advisable and in the best interests of Twitter and its stockholders.”

During a virtual town hall meeting, Elon Musk reportedly told Twitter employees that he wants the social media app to have a billion users while applauding TikTok for being entertaining, as well as China’s WeChat for keeping people engaged.

There are 229 million daily active users on Twitter till the first quarter of 2022.

The Verge, citing employees who heard the remarks, reported that Musk wants Twitter to replicate the success model of TikTok and WeChat in order to target one-billion users and that the app should offer more utility and make sure “people are very entertained and informed”.

He also made a comparison with WeChat, the super app in China that mixes social media with payments, games, and even ride-hailing.

“There’s no WeChat equivalent outside of China,” Musk was quoted as saying after joining 10 minutes late to the virtual meeting via his phone on Thursday.

“You basically live on WeChat in China. If we can recreate that with Twitter, we’ll be a great success.”

He also reportedly praised TikTok’s algorithm for not being “boring,” saying “we could hone Twitter in the same way to be interesting.”

He specifically placed emphasis on Twitter being better at surfacing news.

“I think Twitter can be much better about informing people of serious issues,” he was quoted as saying.

When asked about Twitter’s potential in five to 10 years, Musk said the company should be “contributing to a stronger longer lasting civilization where we are better able to understand the nature of reality.”

The Elon Musk - Twitter saga has taken another interesting turn. Tesla Chief Executive Musk has accused the social media giant of withholding data and has even threatened to withdraw his $44 billion takeover bid. Musk has alleged that Twitter was flouting its obligations to provide the required data on fake accounts. As per a document filed with the securities regulator Musk said that the social media company has committed "a clear material breach" of "its obligations under the merger agreement" due to which the Tesla CEO reserves the right "not to consummate the transaction and his right to terminate the merger agreement". Elon Musk threatens to withdraw Twitter takeover bid

A body spray advertisement triggered massive outrage in India for seemingly promoting rape culture.

Several people turned to social media to voice their outrage against two advertisements by Layer'r Shot perfume that sought to promote sexual violence against women.

The first ad shows a group of men standing behind a woman at a grocery store saying, “There are four of us, but there's only one, who will get a shot”.

Overhearing the conversation, the woman turns around in anger and fear when the ad reveals that they were discussing the last remaining bottle of the body spray.

The second advert takes a step further by showing a girl sitting with a boy in a room when suddenly four boys barge in and ask a crass question, ‘you have taken a shot, it seems”, leaving the girl shocked. One of the men then proceeds to take the 'Shot' perfume kept on a table, hinting they were talking about the spray the whole time.

It was the second ad that triggered massive anger with many saying that it promoted ‘rape culture'.
