International expert Arnold Dix on Thursday evening told PTI news agency, "Right now the auger machine is experiencing some difficulties, for the third time."&nbsp;

"We have seen this happen before," he added.&nbsp;

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Director General Atul Karwal told PTI that once the drilling work is completed the workers will be taken out one after the other on wheeled stretchers.&nbsp;

As per reports, there was an alternative plan when the team mulled over workers crawling their way out from the drilled pipe. However, given the health condition of workers, who are only surviving on small meals, it may not be a feasible solution.&nbsp;

"That's the way that they survive because they use the hospital as a human shield that protects them," said Colonel Elad Tsuri, commander of an Israeli armoured brigade that found the tunnel, in the video released by IDF. A tunnel collapsed in the Uttarkashi district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand on Saturday (Nov 11) night leaving at least 36&nbsp;people trapped. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the dozens of workers who are believed to be inside the under-construction structure.

Grant Shapps, who was transport minister in 2020, had initially authorised the project in 2020. The authorisation came in spite of a panel of planning experts warning of "permanent, irreversible harm" to the area.

The decision was successfully challenged in the High Court in the next year.&nbsp;

However, while delivering the verdict, the court stressed that its ruling was not on the merits of the scheme but on the legality of the minister's granting of approval.

Mark Harper, Schapps' successor, has given fresh approval in 64-page fresh approval. He has said that he was "satisfied" that the project's &nbsp;"harm on spatial, visual relations and settings is less than substantial and should be weighed against the public benefits".

Those who oppose the plan have warned against the massive engineering project soon to start in an area full of archaeological treasures around the standing stone. The UNESCO has even said that the site could lose its World Heritage Site status if construction goes ahead.

"This saga is starting to feel almost as old as the stones themselves and it's not over yet," Gooding said.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument. It is located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire in England. The structure has an outer ring. It is made of vertical sarsen standing stones. Information available in public domain suggests that each of this stone is around 13 feet high&nbsp;and seven feet wide. Each of the stones weighs around 25 tonnes. These stones are topped by horizontal lintel stones.

Inside, there is a ring of smaller bluestones.

The whole monument is now is in ruinous condition. It is believed by the archaeologists that stonehenge was constructed between 3000 BC to 2000 BC. Radiocarbon dating analysis suggests that first bluestones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC.

UK: Authorities greenlight road tunnel construction near Stonehenge despite opposition

A centuries old tunnel-like structure was accidentally discovered at a children's museum in New Delhi this week. The discovery of the tunnel, reportedly dating back to the 13th or 14th century, was made during one of the redevelopment efforts undertaken by Archeological Survey of India, the chief government authority on archaeological research and preservation of cultural-historical monuments in India.

Owing to its millennia-old rich history, the present-day India is home to the sixth largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Officials cited by Hindustan Times said that only the opening of the arched structure is visible, and no further digging will be done. They further added that the structure will be kept intact as one of the displays at the children's museum.

"We were creating a four-metre-wide path from the front gate to the main road during which this arch-like structure emerged," Praveen Singh, superintending archaeologist, Delhi circle, Archaeological Survey of India, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

For the children of India's national capital, the museum displays 30 replicas of popular monuments from all across India and abroad. "The museum upgradation work is going on under which more replicas will be added to the museum," Singh added.

"This was not a formal excavation site, but a chance finding. We have now exposed about five-six feet of the structure and will keep it as a display for the children to show how such structures are discovered during excavation," said Singh.

India: Officials discover centuries-old tunnel at a children's museum in Delhi

A man from Lancaster&nbsp;succumbed to his injuries&nbsp;sustained after he got trapped&nbsp;inside an indoor caving experience at a Lake District climbing centre.&nbsp;On April 22, Carl O'Keeffe, 49, of Lancaster got stuck in a cramped tunnel at Kong Adventure in Keswick. Cave rescue specialists were sent with the emergency teams to free him.

He died at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, on Sunday, reported&nbsp;BBC.

O'Keeffe&nbsp;was at the adventure centre for his niece's birthday celebration on April 22, according to a report by Sky News.

He reportedly fell and got trapped within one of the facility's caves while carrying four kids, spending more than four hours there. Just after 3 o'clock, emergency services were called after the staff failed to save him.

A Kong Adventure Centre spokesperson told The Guardian:&nbsp;“On Saturday 22 April, a member of the public became stuck in the cave system at Kong Adventure."

“Staff tried to help the man and followed all emergency procedures but it became apparent that outside assistance was needed.

“Fire crew, mountain rescue, cave rescue, paramedics and Kong staff then worked to extricate the casualty, who was taken to Carlisle hospital for further treatment.”

At the scene were members of the police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Keswick Mountain Rescue, Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit, Great North Air Ambulance, and the North West Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team.

Parts of the climbing wall were dismantled with the assistance of staff and other visitors to make way for the caving tunnels.

O'Keeffe was transferred to the Cumberland Infirmary's intensive care unit in Carlisle with "crush injuries" after being rescued.

He died&nbsp;from multiple-organ failure, according to a Facebook post by his older sister, Olivia Short. She paid tribute to her “beautiful, intelligent, fascinating brother”.

“At 3 pm today I sat with Carl and said goodbye forever.&nbsp;He was my baby brother and over the last few years became my best friend,”&nbsp;Short wrote on Sunday.

Short, who was beside her brother in the hospital, continued: “It became apparent that the injuries were severe and he would not be able to survive. He was then moved to a private room and I was able to stay with him so that he could die with some dignity."

“I’m broken-hearted,” she said. “As are the rest of our family.”

Meanwhile, a&nbsp;Cumberland Council spokesperson told Mirror that the incident is being investigated.

“We have been notified of an incident that took place at the Kong Adventure Centre, Keswick, and are investigating the matter, as the regulating body."

India is gearing up to conduct the first trial run of the underwater metro train in Kolkata. Under West Bengal's Hooghly River, tunnels have been constructed for the trial.

Two tunnels have been constructed between the East-West Metro Corridor, which connects Sector V in Salt Lake to Howrah Maidan, beneath the Hooghly.

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) had scheduled a Sunday trial run on one part of this route, however, the officials abruptly postponed it.

The corporation stated that they will soon conduct the trial run. In the trial run, a metro train having two to six coaches will travel the 4.8 km-long stretches between Esplanade and Howrah Maidan.

In 1984, the first metro in the nation was also inaugurated in Kolkata city. The metro started running in New Delhi in 2002, much later than in Kolkata.

The metro train will run at a speed of 80km/h in the tunnels carved out from the Hooghly riverbed. It will take less than a minute to cover the passage beneath the river.

The 16 km long rail route has underground sections spread over 10.8 km length. The part of the river, which is downstream, is also included.

The metro train will be 13 metres beneath the Hooghly River’s bed and the Howrah metro station will be 33 deep, making it the deepest station in the country. The tunnel will have exists for emergencies like earthquakes.

Approximately, 157 crores have been spent per kilometre to construct an underwater tunnel inside the Hooghly River.

According to the report, the commercial service's commencement will depend on the success of the trials. The KMRC had earlier stated that India's first underwater metro service, called the East-West Metro Corridor project, is likely to get completed by December 2023.

KMRC General Manager Civil Shailesh Kumar said, “The ongoing underwater tunnel project is likely to be completed by December 2023. Some rehabilitation works are in process and other issues are delaying the completion of the underwater metro project.”

The East-West corridor of Kolkata Metro is 15 kilometres long and stretches from Howrah to Salt Lake City Stadium.

According to UNRWA, the "cavity" amounted to "a major breach of the agency's neutrality and a breach of international law" and exposed children and UN personnel to "grave security and safety hazards." As per&nbsp;the Israeli army, the tunnel was really built by insurgents in Gaza.

"Rain likely created a hole in the ground that revealed the structure of a terrorist tunnel next to a UNRWA school in Gaza," an Israeli military source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The plant's chief decommissioning officer Akira Ono said Wednesday that releasing the&nbsp;water&nbsp;through a&nbsp;tunnel&nbsp;would help prevent it flowing back to the shore.

"We will thoroughly explain our safety policies and the measures we are taking against reputation damage, so that we can dispel concerns held by people involved in fisheries" and other industries, Ono told reporters.

The Qazi Gund-Banihal tunnel has bypassed the most difficult terrain on the national highway. The distance between the two points was earlier 16.5 kilometers, something that has nearly got cut to half.

It took the government 10 long years to make this tunnel as it faced&nbsp;major issues including that of adverse weather.

“It took more than 9 years. As of now we are in the final stage. Our testing commision will get completed and it will be thrown open. Tunnelling is a difficult job. You cannot predict what is inside the tunnel once u start the excavation and you know the rock strata, whether it’s lose or hard rock, you need to be careful on every step. You can imagine how tunnelling is a time-consuming job and we are extremely happy that we have finally finished the work," said Muneeb&nbsp;Tak, chief manager

The government says it will benefit people in a lot of ways. It will not only save the time but the tunnel will be open all through the year.&nbsp;

“There will be no issue for the movement of the traffic. Earlier, there used to be many landslides near Jawahar tunnel in winters and clearance took time. But the new tunnel is an all-weather one. There will be no difficulty in clearing of the snow. So it will remain open throughout the year," said Muneeb&nbsp;Tak.

The whole tunnel has&nbsp;been made on Build,&nbsp;Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. It is attached with an exhaust system to remove gas and bring in fresh air. It has 126 jet fans, 234 CCTV modern cameras and a firefighting system installed.

The locals of the area are relieved as they had no other route to use&nbsp;during the winters previously. They used to face immense problems taking&nbsp;sick people to hospitals or taking essential commodities to other places.&nbsp;

“This tunnel will benefit us a lot, we were cut off from Kashmir during the winters. The sick would not reach hospital, the students couldn’t reach exam centres, even dead bodies had to wait. Now we can finally breath a sigh of relief. It will save us two-hour distance and we can cover it in 20 mins now. It’s a great step by the government," said Zahoor Ahmad Wani, a local resident.&nbsp;

Hooper's son, 16-year-old Rory Hooper, left the site last week, and others were removed earlier, leaving only one protester who was removed on Friday morning.

"HS2 staff, our agents and the emergency service personnel have acted with safety as their utmost priority, risking their own lives in order to ensure the well-being of those who placed themselves in such a dangerous situation underground," HS2 Ltd said.

The firm claimed its staff were "subject to numerous incidences of violence and criminal activity during this operation, including alleged theft and assault".

"Instead of wasting public resources on illegal actions, we urge environmental organisations to support a project that will help cut the number of cars and lorries on our roads, cut demand for domestic flights, and help the country's fight against climate change," it added.

HS2 is a flagship government rail project set to cost some £100 billion ($137 billion, 115 billion euros) that aims to link London to cities in central and northern England.

It will be Britain's second high-speed line after HS1, which is used by the cross-Channel Eurostar service linking London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, as well as providing Kent commuter services in and out of London.

The team followed its structure to unearth the opening of the tunnel on the Indian side and during the search operation, electronic and geographical data found on a mobile device recovered from the terrorists were also used, the officials said.

After detecting the mouth of the tunnel, the BSF team found itself 200 metres inside Pakistani territory, they said, adding it entered through the tunnel and recorded the visuals inside it on the Pakistani side as part of collecting evidence before they returned to the Indian side.

The operation was "swift and intelligence-based action", they said.

The four Kashmir-bound Pakistani terrorists were killed in a gunfight after the truck, in which they were travelling, was stopped for checking at a toll plaza on the highway.

The BSF, in an official statement, had said its personnel and those from the Jammu and Kashmir Police "detected a tunnel originating within Pakistan side of the International Border and exiting on the Indian side in the area of border post-Regal in Jammu's Samba district".

"It was about 160 metres from the IB, 70 metres from the border fence and at a depth of 25 metres," it had said.

Based on leads obtained after the encounter, the BSF had said, it was learnt that these terrorists "were picked up by a truck from Jatwal village in Samba on the national highway".

The tunnel, it had said, was found by the "first light" on November 22 by the BSF crack team. The exit on the Indian side was in thick bushes carefully concealed and meticulously covered with soil and wild growth.

"The mouth of the tunnel was strengthened and reinforced by sandbags with markings of Karachi, Pakistan," the border force that guards the front had said.

It was a freshly dug tunnel and appears to be used for the first time. It appears that proper engineering effort had gone in digging the tunnel which shows the hand of the establishment, the force said.

The nearest Pakistan posts are Chak Bhura, Rajab Sahid and Asif Sahid.

"The detection of the tunnel resulted due to the well-coordinated operation among the BSF, J&amp;K police and intelligence agencies," it had said.

The remarks of BSF Inspector General (Jammu frontier) N S Jamwal came after the Border Security Force (BSF) detected a tunnel just beneath the Indo-Pak international border fence in Galar area of Samba.

He lauded the force personnel for their alertness in detecting the tunnel and said, "We were getting information that a tunnel was dug out from the Pakistan side in Samba. We were working on the information when one of our teams managed to locate it on Friday evening."

The IG said the preliminary investigation revealed that it was a freshly dug tunnel.

"A vigilant BSF patrol party, while carrying out in-depth scanning, detected a tunnel with a depth of approximately 25 feet and about 3-4 feet in diameter near border fencing in Galar area," it said.

The BSF said Pakistan-made sand bags carrying markings of 'Shakargarh' and 'Karachi' factories were found hiding the mouth of the tunnel.

"The opening of the tunnel is around 170 metres from the IB in the Indian territory in the field of a local farmer," it said, adding that the alert BSF troops foiled the nefarious design of Pakistan to help terrorists infiltrate into the Indian territory.

"The tunnel's origin is in Pakistan close to the IB. The efforts of alert BSF troops deployed in our multi-tiered counter-infiltration grid once again resulted in neutralizing the evil designs of terrorists in deep connivance with Pakistan establishment," the statement said.

The BSF said there have been regular inputs about the presence of terrorists in Pakistan border villages desperately looking to infiltrate into Indian territory but the troops foiled all attempts by the anti-national elements.
