They said that she slashed him with knives and power saw in the family home in Greenacre in Sydney’s west and disposed of his body parts in residential and commercial bins across several suburbs. According to the report, a person known as "Witness A" allegedly saw some of her "callous" actions on the night of the alleged murder. Meanwhile, another witness allegedly reported hearing statements from Nirmeen that could be considered admissions to killing her husband. Last month, Nirmeen also checked herself into a mental health hospital and got arrested only, based on what police considered to be strong circumstantial evidence. However, his husband's remains have not been found yet. Her lawyer Greg James, KC, said Nirmeen suffered from mental illnesses including depression, PTSD, and a psychotic illness. Australians are days away from being able to ignore their bosses outside working hours as the country has passed a new law to handle the work-related stress of employees.

The Fair Work Amendment (Right to Disconnect) Act amends the Fair Work Act 2009 and was moved through the Australian parliament in February this year. The law aims to protect employees who refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact from their employers outside work hours.

It will be implemented from August 26.

However, the "Right to Disconnect Act" allows circumstances where an employee's right to refuse can be deemed "unreasonable" depending on their role, the reason for the contact, and how it is made, along with other factors.

Meanwhile, in France, Germany and other European Union countries, similar laws have already been enacted which allow employees a right to switch off their mobile devices after working hours.

Besides the pros of the new law, it also drew criticism from employer groups who called the legislation rushed and flawed.

Moreover, this practice, which extended during the pandemic, has led to concerns about stress and exertion among workers.

'Right to disconnect': Australians will now be free to ignore bosses after work

Australian Prime Minster Anthony Albanese on Monday condemned vandalism of the U.S. consulate in Sydney after the building was defaced in what local media said appeared to be a pro-Palestinian protest.

The building in the northern suburbs of Australia's largest city was attacked and sprayed with paint by a person carrying a small sledgehammer at around 3 a.m. local time on Monday.

"I would just say that people should have respectful political debate and discourse," Albanese said in a televised media conference from Canberra when asked about the incident.

"Measures such as painting the U.S. Consulate do nothing to advance the cause of those who have committed what is of course a crime to damage property," he added.

Nine windows of the consulate were damaged and the building's door was graffitied, police said.

"CCTV has been sourced that shows a person wearing a dark coloured hoodie with their face obscured carrying what appears to be a small sledgehammer," a police spokesperson told Reuters by phone.

A spokesperson for the U.S. consulate confirmed the building had been damaged but said staff and operations were unaffected.

"Australian Federal Police and New South Wales Police are investigating the incident," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Photos of the consulate on the website of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper showed inverted red triangles sprayed on the building's front. The symbol is used by some pro-Palestinian activists, it reported.

The same building was sprayed with graffiti in April, while the U.S. consulate in Melbourne was graffitied by pro-Palestine activists in May, according to the newspaper.

Long a stalwart ally of Israel, Australia has become increasingly critical of its conduct in Gaza, where an Australian aid worker was killed in an Israeli attack earlier this year.

Last month, camps sprang up at universities in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and other Australian cities protesting Israel's war in Gaza and claiming the Australian government has not done enough to push for peace.

Australia's cyber safety regulator on Wednesday decided to drop a legal challenge against Elon Musk-owned X over the removal of videos of the stabbing of an Assyrian church bishop in Sydney, after a setback last month in the federal court.

Judge Geoffrey Kennett in May rejected a bid by the eSafety commissioner to extend a temporary order for the social media platform to block videos of the knife attack, which Australian authorities had called a terrorist attack.

Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said in a statement that the regulator had decided to drop its legal action against X.

"Most Australians accept this kind of graphic material should not be on broadcast television, which begs an obvious question of why it should be allowed to be distributed freely and accessible online 24/7 to anyone, including children," Grant said.

She said a major concern was the ease by which children were able to access the violent content on X.

Grant said she originally issued X the notice to remove the video in order to prevent the "extremely violent footage from going viral", potentially inciting further violence and inflicting more harm on the community.

"I stand by my investigators and the decisions eSafety made," she said.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with a terrorism offence for the alleged attack in April.

The legal tussle had sparked heated exchanges between Musk and senior Australian officials including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who called Musk "an arrogant billionaire" for his objections to take down the video. Musk has posted memes criticising the regulatory order, describing it as censorship.

But the regulator argued that geo-blocking Australians, the solution X offered, was ineffective because several users used virtual private networks that disguised their locations.
