The Australian police&nbsp;on Tuesday (Feb 27) said that they found two bodies in the New South Wales (NSW) town of Bungonia during their search for same-sex couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies. This comes days after NSW police officer Beau Lamarre who reportedly once dated Baird was charged with their murder.&nbsp;

The police believe that they have found the bodies of&nbsp;Baird, 26, an entertainment journalist and his&nbsp;boyfriend Davies, 29, who was a Qantas flight attendant. The pair had been presumed dead.&nbsp;

<h2>Police discover two bodies</h2>

The detectives investigating the case – which has gripped Australia and is believed to be the first suspected murder carried out by an NSW police officer in decades – on Tuesday afternoon said that a crime scene had been established at a second property in rural Bungonia around 160 kilometres south-west of Sydney.&nbsp;

“We believe we have located two bodies,” the NSW police commissioner, Karen Webb, told reporters. She added, “The families have been notified. We are very confident we have located Luke and Jesse.”

The bodies were found in surfboard bags under a fence at a property in rural Bungonia and attempts had been made to cover them with “rocks and debris,” said Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty.&nbsp;

&nbsp;

The bodies were discovered four days after Senior Constable Lamarre, 28, was charged with their murders, and co-operated with the detectives, said the police.&nbsp;

Police assistant commissioner Michael Fitzgerald, on Tuesday morning, said that it was the first time since he had been arrested that the accused “willingly told us information”.&nbsp;

<h2>About the case</h2>

Doherty said that the police would allege in court that there was “some type of relationship at some stage” between the NSW officer and the TV presenter. The relationship, according to the police, “did not end well”.&nbsp;

The police believe that the pair was&nbsp;killed on February 19 in Baird’s inner-city home in Paddington and that the two “surf bags” had been used to transport the deceased couple in a white van to the rural property where the bodies were found.&nbsp;

So far, the investigators also found a bullet matching Lamarre’s work-issued gun, a “significant” amount of blood, and upturned furniture in Baird’s home where they believe the murder took place.&nbsp;

On February 19, Baird’s neighbours had heard gunshots, the police say, but they were not reported until days later.&nbsp;

Lamarre made “partial admissions” about the alleged murders to an acquaintance who is said to have accompanied him to a separate property in Bungonia – not where the bodies were found.

The NSW officer had left his female acquaintance after breaking the lock on the property and returned around 30 minutes later.&nbsp;

The police believe that the acquaintance whose identity was immediately clear was an “innocent agent” and said that she was fully cooperating with the officers.&nbsp;

Die-hard Taylor Swift fans flocked to a Melbourne stadium early Friday, snapping up merchandise hours before the first Australian date of her money-raking, two-year-long "Eras" tour.&nbsp;

The 34-year-old megastar kicks off seven Australia shows in Melbourne on Friday, the first of three stadium gigs in the city, before heading to Sydney for four more sell-out dates.&nbsp;

"The Eras Tour", which takes fans through the Swift discography, is predicted to be the highest-grossing musical tour of all time, netting about US$1 billion in ticket sales, according to Pollstar, a trade publication.

"The main thing that got me into her was probably the lyrics and how I can relate them to so many different situations", said 21-year-old Australian fan Kendra Harris, who has been waiting months to see her hero in the flesh.&nbsp;

"I also love how she's so communicative with fans. She posts a lot of things on her social media and will comment on people's TikToks, so it feels like she truly knows you," said Harris.

"She definitely has a close relationship with fans. I know she used to invite fans to her house to listen to the album early, so I feel like doing things like that just shows how much she cares."

With many fans coming from overseas or inter-state and tickets hard to come by, hotel groups are offering ticket-and-lodging packages that run into the thousands of dollars.

- Surprise songs -

Fans were gearing up for the concerts by creating Swift-themed friendship bracelets, preparing outfits and learning "fan chants" to belt out during performances.&nbsp;

Bead kits have reportedly sold out in some Melbourne and Sydney stores, as fans have rushed to make the bracelets, which are traditionally traded before shows.

"I've made like six or seven, but I would like to make a few more before the concert ... you trade them with people and I think people just give them if you don't have any," said Harris.

Many concert outfits will be inspired by Swift's self-described "Eras", her transformation through a range of musical genres, from country to pop.&nbsp;

Following last year's re-release of her album "1989", Swift has made around US$500 million from streaming royalties and music purchases such as tracks, albums, CDs, LPs and cassettes, according to Billboard.&nbsp;

"I saw the 'Eras Tour' movie in cinemas and that just made me even more excited, it looks amazing and I'm excited to hear what surprise songs we get as well," said Harris.&nbsp;

Swift, whose hits include "Shake It Off", "Blank Space" and "You Need to Calm Down", performs an acoustic set on piano and guitar, while featuring two surprise songs not on the official setlist.

Promotion for the tour has been as carefully choreographed as the performance on stage, and helped by Swift recently scooping her fourth "Album of the Year" prize at the Grammys, followed by a much-hyped appearance at the Super Bowl, where she cheered on boyfriend Travis Kelce of the winning Kansas City Chiefs.

The power of Taylor Swift has even seeped into academia, with the University of Melbourne holding a "Swiftposium" to discuss her influence across a range of disciplines.

"Fans view her a lot more as the friend-next-door than they do as a billionaire superpower, which is the reality of what she is," sociologist Georgia Carroll told the gathering.

'You need to calm down': Swift-mania hits Australia ahead of Eras Tour concert

The New South Wales Productivity Commission report, on Tuesday (Feb 13) warned that one of Australia’s most prominent cities, Sydney is on track to be “the city with no grandchildren” as its soaring house prices are driving young families out.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the commission say?</h2>

A study conducted by the commission found that Sydney lost double the number of people aged from 30 to 40 as it gained between 2016 and 2021, the reason for his exodus? Unaffordable housing costs.&nbsp;

The report titled 'What We Gain By Building More Homes In The Right Places' was released on Tuesday along with a video in which NSW productivity commissioner, Peter Achterstraat explained the dire situation that Sydney faces.&nbsp;

“Many young families are leaving Sydney because they can’t afford to buy a home. Or they can only afford one in the outer suburbs with a long commute,” said the NSW productivity commissioner.&nbsp;

“If we don’t act, we could become known as the city with no grandchildren,” Achterstraat warned. The report also highlighted the need for greater housing density across the city.&nbsp;

According to the commissioner, the officials must build inner Sydney suburbs and not just add houses on the city’s outskirts. He also said that Sydney needs “hundreds of thousands of new homes over the next two decades” to address the issue. &nbsp;

This, Achterstraat said, would not only help productivity and wages but also cut consumers’ carbon emissions due to shorter commutes and preserve land and green spaces.&nbsp;

“High housing costs work like a regressive tax, with the burden falling disproportionately on low-income earners,” said the productivity commissioner.&nbsp;

<h2>Problem to worsen?</h2>

Australia is also known for being one of the least affordable countries in the world for housing which, as per Bloomberg, has been attributed to strong population growth, limited construction, and an inclination towards smaller households.&nbsp;

Additionally, since there is reportedly a rebound in immigration with more than one million net arrivals in Australia over the next five years, the situation will likely worsen as these people would need a place to live.&nbsp;

However, the problem seems to have been exacerbated in Sydney due to a strong opposition to high apartment blocks among locals.&nbsp;

According to the report, Sydney would have generated 45,000 additional houses without the need for any extra land if the buildings constructed between 2017 and 2022 had been an average of 10 storeys high instead of seven.&nbsp;

“Areas dominated by large, low-density, freestanding homes do not cater well for younger people moving out of home, or for older people looking to downsize while staying in their neighbourhood,” said the report.&nbsp;

<h2>Protecting the past or building for future?</h2>

The NSW productivity commissioner also called for a fresh discussion on heritage restrictions on housing close to the central business district and its role in keeping the prices high.&nbsp;

He noted that the proliferation of Heritage Conservation Areas limits new housing and affects more than half of residential land in prime suburbs.&nbsp;

New homes “in inner suburbs will let young families live near their parents and their children’s grandparents,” said Achterstraat, as quoted by the Guardian, adding that we can “preserve the gems of Sydney’s heritage without inadvertently freezing young people out.”

Sydney at risk of becoming a city ‘with no grandchildren,’ experts warn

Wildlife experts in Australia recently discovered the largest male specimen of the most venomous spider in the world. The arachnid, named Hercules, which measured 7.9 cm (3.11 inches) is the biggest male funnel-web spider. It has been given to the Australian Reptile Park, said officials with the interactive zoo which is based in Somersby on Australia's Central Coast.&nbsp;

In a video shared on its Facebook page, park spider keeper Emmi Teni said that she had earlier thought that the spider was female.

"But upon closer inspection, he is definitely a male and has some the biggest fangs I've ever seen," said Teni. As per the park officials, males are generally much smaller in comparison to females.

This deadly Sydney funnel-web spider was first discovered on the Central Coast, nearly 80km north of Sydney, and was initially admitted in a local hospital, said the Australian Reptile Park, in a statement.

It was soon retrieved by the spider experts from the nearby park after which they realised that it was the largest male specimen to have been ever found in the public in Australia.&nbsp;

The spider, which measures 7.9cm (3.1 inches) from foot to foot, is bigger than the largest male funnel-web spider which has been present in the parl since 2018 and has been named “Colossus”.

The biggest funnel-web spider donated to the Australian Reptile Park was a female measuring 8cm from foot to foot – comparable to a tarantula. It was found in 2021 and given the name “Megaspider”.

<h2>What is a funnel-web spider?</h2>

Funnel-web spiders are one of the most dangerous arachnids in the world, said &nbsp;Dan Rumsey, a former reptile keeper at the Australian Reptile Park, while speaking to USA TODAY. The spider has a venom, which is filled with 40 different toxic proteins and its raw venom, is the best way to make life-saving antivenom.&nbsp;

If someone is bitten by a funnel-web spider, the park recommends the person should keep the affected limb still, apply a bandage and seek medical help immediately.

<h2>'Keeping Hercules in park is saving lives'</h2>

Temi said that Hercules was recently admitted to John Hunter Hospital, which is one the spider drop-off locations in wildlife sanctuaries.

"Hercules is absolutely huge as is his venom yield. The person who contributed this spider is helping us save lives," Temi said.&nbsp;

The spider will be joining the park's "funnel-web spider venom programme" where his venom will be used for creating antivenom.

“We’re used to having pretty big funnel-web spiders donated to the park, however receiving a male funnel-web this big is like hitting the jackpot,” said Emma Teni, a spider keeper at Australian Reptile Park, on Thursday (Jan 4).

“Whilst female funnel-web spiders are venomous, males have proven to be more lethal. With having a male funnel-web this size in our collection, his venom output could be enormous, proving incredibly valuable for the park’s venom programme," he added.&nbsp;

Also read: Newly found sea spider species breathes through legs, has boxing gloves for claws It was soon retrieved by the spider experts from the nearby park after which they realised that it was the largest male specimen to have been ever found in the public in Australia. What is a funnel-web spider? Funnel-web spiders are one of the most dangerous arachnids in the world, said Dan Rumsey, a former reptile keeper at the Australian Reptile Park, while speaking to USA TODAY. The spider has a venom, which is filled with 40 different toxic proteins and its raw venom, is the best way to make life-saving antivenom. If someone is bitten by a funnel-web spider, the park recommends the person should keep the affected limb still, apply a bandage and seek medical help immediately. 'Keeping Hercules in park is saving lives' Temi said that Hercules was recently admitted to John Hunter Hospital, which is one the spider drop-off locations in wildlife sanctuaries. "Hercules is absolutely huge as is his venom yield. The person who contributed this spider is helping us save lives," Temi said. Watch: What the fossils of the giant predator worms 'terror beasts' reveal The spider will be joining the park's "funnel-web spider venom programme" where his venom will be used for creating antivenom. “We’re used to having pretty big funnel-web spiders donated to the park, however receiving a male funnel-web this big is like hitting the jackpot,” said Emma Teni, a spider keeper at Australian Reptile Park, on Thursday (Jan 4). “Whilst female funnel-web spiders are venomous, males have proven to be more lethal. With having a male funnel-web this size in our collection, his venom output could be enormous, proving incredibly valuable for the park’s venom programme," he added. (With inputs from agencies)

The air quality in Australia's East Coast city of Sydney plummeted to levels comparable to New Delhi, the Indian capital and one of the world's most polluted metropolises.

The air quality in Australia's East Coast city of Sydney plummeted to levels comparable to New Delhi, the Indian capital and one of the world's most polluted metropolises. The usually clear and blue skies of Sydney transformed into a greyish, dystopic-looking scenery as the capital of North South Wales struggled with smoke coming from Duck Creek, Pilliga Forest bushfire some 400 kilometres away. According to reports, the air quality index hit 161 in the city's downtown area after 5 pm (0600 GMT). The poor quality of air has forced the authorities to issue advisories urging people to avoid prolonged outdoor exercise. According to the Rural Fire Service (RFS), the bushfires have spread roughly across 136,000 hectares (336,000) acres, an area almost the size of Greater London in the south and the smoke is continuously drifting towards Sydney. "We are seeing smoke drift from the Duck Creek-Pilliga Forest fire, which is burning in the northern part of the state, being pushed under very strong northerly winds down into the Hunter and it's being experienced in greater Sydney region as well," RFS spokesperson Greg Allan said. Watch | Delhi AQI: Air pollution in India's New Delhi turns 'severe', Delhi AQI stands at 468 × RFS said as many as 450 firefighters and other personnel were on the ground, working to control the blazes in easing conditions for the north of the state. Although no total fire ban has been applied so far, a high fire danger rating remains in place for an area stretching from Sydney’s west to the Victorian border. Temperatures reached into the mid-30s for Sydney, parts of the mid-north coast, and northwest and central-west slopes and plains. Delhi's pollution woes While the AQI reaching 161 is a one-off incident in Sydney, the pollution levels in Delhi constantly hover between 74 and 225. In the first couple of weeks of November, the levels usually surpass 400 as well due to stubble burning in the neighbouring states. All construction work was stopped and the cabs from outside the state were not allowed to enter the capital. To reduce the pollution level, the Delhi government had mulled using cloud seeding to induce artificial rainfall. The proposal, however, remains in the preliminary stage so far. Heatwave, wildfires, Cyclones and droughts The El Nino phenomenon is tightening its grip across Australia with temperatures peaking at 43° C. Authorities have now urged the citizens to stay indoors as much as possible.

Twice major winner Minjee&nbsp;Lee&nbsp;and her in-form brother Min Woo are targeting a unique&nbsp;sweep&nbsp;of the&nbsp;dual&nbsp;gender&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;Open&nbsp;in Sydney this week while Cameron Smith will&nbsp;look&nbsp;to bounce back from his horror show in Brisbane. Days after Minjee won a record third Greg Norman medal as Australia's top golfer, Min Woo cruised to a three-stroke victory at the&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;PGA Championship on Sunday to the delight of packed galleries at Royal Queensland.

His first big, home victory came just over a month after the&nbsp;Lees became the first&nbsp;siblings&nbsp;to win events in successive weeks on major international tours, with Minjee claiming the BMW Ladies Championship and Min Woo the Macau&nbsp;Open. The mixed format of the&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;Open&nbsp;- which has separate men's and women's trophies - will have the&nbsp;siblings&nbsp;competing apart but in close proximity across two courses, The&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;and The Lakes.

Min Woo, the more extroverted of the Western&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;duo, said he hoped both could hoist trophies in the same week. "It would be pretty crazy. We've won back-to-back weeks, but on the same week would be something else," the 25-year-old told reporters.

Though boasting three European Tour titles among his four professional wins, Min Woo has some catching up to do to match his sister. The 27-year-old world number five has 10 LPGA Tour titles and top-three finishes at all five of the women's majors.

The&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;Open&nbsp;has proved elusive, though, despite playing every one since the age of 14. "As an&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;you always want to win your national&nbsp;Open&nbsp;and it’s always been high on my list to win," she said. "I put the most pressure on myself here, I really want to do well so it's subconscious pressure."

TON OF BIRDIES

Former British&nbsp;Open&nbsp;winner Smith can only sympathise. The 30-year-old was in tears last week after missing the cut in his&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;PGA Championship title defence, the event he won three times in front of friends and family.

He said his meltdown at Royal Queensland had dented his confidence but he had worked hard with coach Grant Field for four days to iron out a technical issue with his swing. "I wouldn’t say my confidence is at 100%, but like I said, there’s no reason I can’t go out there and be competitive," he said.

"It only takes a few good shots and a few good feels and all of a sudden you’re&nbsp;looking at yourself at the top of the leaderboard." Former world number one Adam Scott is another with something to prove, having challenged&nbsp;Lee&nbsp;in the first half of the PGA Championship before fading over the weekend to finish sixth.

Scott won the&nbsp;Australian&nbsp;Open&nbsp;in 2009 but has endured plenty of frustration since at the country's most prestigious event. He held a one-stroke lead when he teed off in the final round at Melbourne's Victoria Golf Club last year but duly crashed to hand Poland's Adrian Meronk a five-stroke win.

Without a win in nearly four years, the 43-year-old has committed to a higher-risk, attacking game to try to break the drought. "You have to accept some bad results because you're going for it, and if you're not on then you're going to have a bad score," he said. "But you're&nbsp;looking for those five or six weeks a year where you go for it and you're on and you make a ton of birdies and you get the big results."

A woman in her 70s has died in hospital after a fall at a Robbie Williams concert in Sydney last Thursday.

Woman Dies After Horrific Fall At Robbie Williams Concert In Sydney

Five people, including two children, were killed and several injured at a popular tourist town in rural Australia after a car crashed into a crowd of patrons on the front lawn of a pub, authorities said on Monday.

Four died at the scene of the accident on Sunday evening in Daylesford, about 110 km (68 miles) northwest of Melbourne, Victoria state police said. A girl who was airlifted to a hospital died there later.

The SUV mounted a kerb and then drove across a grassed area outside the Royal Daylesford hotel, Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said during a media briefing.

"There were a large number of people there at that time, at tables ... the vehicle collided with those tables and those people," Patton said.

Police did not specify if the victims were related and whether speed was a factor at this stage but said those killed were not local residents. All the victims are yet to be formally identified.

The exact circumstances of the accident were yet to be determined, police said. The driver, a 66-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver was breath tested and there was no alcohol in his system and police said they are planning to interview him later on Monday when he is released from hospital.

The residents living in the eastern suburbs of Sydney have been scouring the streets to find two pet pythons who were allegedly left by the ex-boyfriend of a lady living in the area in a “fit of anger”.

The 2.5-metre snakes, which were given the names Mango and Bagel, were allegedly left on the main street in Coogee many days back and have remained on the loose since then.

Taking to local Facebook groups, the owner of the snakes announced a reward for the person who helps her find her pets, which she stated were tame and posed a threat only to the animals.

“My shitty ex threw a tantrum when I broke up with him and dumped my lovely hand-reared pet pythons out in a fit of anger. He dumped them on Mount Street, Coogee, the snakes are domesticated and won’t survive in the wild. I’m really scared for their safety, so please if anyone has seen them let me know," the woman wrote on Facebook.&nbsp;

She added that the snakes were around 2.5 metres long, “quite sweet and don’t bite”. “The brown one is called Bagel and the albino is called Mango,” she added.&nbsp;

<h2>Residents fear safety amid snake hunting</h2>

The woman was given leads by local residents, as many of them confirmed spotting Mango in a bush on Mount Street on Saturday (Oct 21). “I seen it about 12am,” wrote one user.&nbsp;

“I went out with a couple of sacks and a torch tonight but no luck,” said another user on Thursday evening (Oct 26).&nbsp;

Concerns were expressed by other residents regarding the risk the snakes are likely to pose to the community, especially by a woman who has a “small dog" in her yard.

“On behalf of the neighbourhood … please for the love of god someone find these snakes,” wrote one user, as another added, “I know you said they don’t bite, but I think I’d still faint if I see them near me”.

New South Wales police stated that no report has been submitted to them regarding the incident.&nbsp;

The Australian Snake Catchers professional reptile handler Sean Cade stated that the safety of the snakes is a bigger concern compared to the threat they pose to the community.

On the basis of the description, Cade stated that the snakes appeared to be like Darwin carpet pythons.

“They should not be out there in the environment, because they’re captive animals, they don’t survive well because they’re not from here. The temperature’s not right, they don’t know how to find food, so it’s quite a precarious situation for the snakes more so than the community," he stated.&nbsp;

A couple of weeks after being cleared of sexual assault charges, Sri Lanka Cricketer (SLC) on Tuesday announced it had lifted the ban on cricketer Danushka&nbsp;Gunathilaka, making him eligible for national selection again.&nbsp;

According to the media release by SLC,&nbsp;Gunathilaka was cleared by an independent inquiry committee after a thorough investigation.&nbsp;

"After careful evaluation of Mr. Gunathilaka's exoneration and with due consideration to his cricketing career and its impact on the cricketing ambitions of the nation, the Inquiry Panel, headed by Retired High Court Judge, Sisira Ratnayake, Mr. Niroshana Perera, Attorney at Law and Mr. Asela Rekawa Attorney at Law, unanimously recommended an immediate lifting of his cricketing ban, allowing him to resume regular cricket activities and return to national duty.”

Australia: Sydney teenager in coma after allegedly being dragged 2 km by car

A court in Sydney, Australia, acquitted Brian Houston, the founder of global megachurch Hillsong, of hiding sexual abuse committed by his father, former pastor Frank Houston, in the 1970s.

A court in Sydney, Australia, acquitted Brian Houston, the founder of global megachurch Hillsong, of hiding sexual abuse committed by his father, former pastor Frank Houston, in the 1970s. On Thursday, the Downing Centre Local and District Court pardoned Houston, 69, by saying that he agreed to the wishes of his father's victim Brett Sengstock by not reporting the crimes to the cops. The court acquitted him of concealing an indictable offence. Houston told reporters outside the court that he will always be sad for the people whose lives were tragically hurt. "But I am not my father. I did not commit this offence," he added. Gareth Christofi, the magistrate, said there was "little doubt" Houston knew Sengstock did not want to report the abuse. "Therefore, he had a valid excuse for not bringing the matter to the attention of the police," said Christofi. Previously, he told the court that from the age of seven, Brian Houston's father, Frank Houston, who was a pastor, repeatedly raped him. After the verdict, Sengstock said, "Frank Houston was no pioneer for Christianity. His legacy remains a faded memory of a paedophile. Regardless of today's outcome, I have received a life sentence." Brian came to know about the abuse decades later. He informed the Church leaders about it. However, he did not tell the police. Frank Houston admitted his crime. Although the church defrocked him, he was never charged and died in 2004. Brian maintained in court that he did not report his father's crimes because when he found out, Sengstock was an adult and did not want the police involved. In 2022, when Brian was accused of concealing the crime from the police, he told Sydney's Downing Centre local, "I have no doubt now my father was a serial paedophile, and we'll probably never know the extent of it." A targeted shooting that left one man dead in Sydney's south-east overnight has raised worries that the city's gang war is getting worse and that retaliatory gun violence is out of control in some neighbourhoods. In reaction to the most recent murder and the ongoing strife in the city's southwest, which is thought to be tied to drug supply, the New South Wales police force established Taskforce Magnus.

A former childcare worker in Australia has been charged with more than 1,600 child abuse offences, including the rape&nbsp;of 91 young girls. The man committed the abuses at a dozen early learning centres, spread across Brisbane, Sydney and overseas over a 15-year period.&nbsp;

Not only did the man rape the kids, but he also filmed them&nbsp;and later distributed the content online, especially over the dark net. The police became aware of&nbsp;the 45-year-old Gold Coast childcare worker’s alleged offences after identifying a video discovered on the dark web in 2014.&nbsp;

He was arrested last year in August while executing warrants at his home and other addresses, and the police discovered a hard drive filled with child abuse material of young girls.&nbsp;

According to Australian media reports, the man is facing a cumulative 1,623 child abuse charges, including 246 counts of rape, and 637 counts of&nbsp;indecent assault,&nbsp;alleged to have taken place from 2007 to 2022.

Authorities investigating the case have described&nbsp;it as one of the most "horrific" cases they have ever seen.

"It's beyond the realms of anyone's imagination, what this person did to these children. You try not to be shocked after a long period of time in the police... but this is a horrific case," Australian Federal Police (AFP)&nbsp;Assistant Commissioner Justine Gough was quoted as saying by BBC.&nbsp;

Gough said all 87 Australian girls recorded in the alleged child abuse material have been identified, and their parents&nbsp;informed about horrific events. The AFP is now working with international authorities to identify the four children who were molested in the recordings created overseas.&nbsp;

“Given there were so many alleged images and videos of children recorded over 15 years on the alleged offender’s devices, the process of identification took time, skill and determination,” Gough said, informing that the kids had been identified under Operation Tenterfield.&nbsp;&nbsp;

'Beyond anyone's imaginations...': Australian childcare worker charged with 1,623 child abuse offences

Inner Sydney district, once known for being the epicentre of the HIV pandemic in Australia, is approaching the milestone of becoming the first place in the world to reach the United Nations target for ending virus transmission, according to researchers.

UNAIDS has a goal of ending AIDS as a global health threat by 2030. This includes reducing the number of new AIDS cases by 90 per cent as compared to 2010.

New HIV infections among gay men in inner Sydney have dropped by 88 per cent between 2010 and 2022. The announcement was made by researchers on Monday (July 24) at the International AIDS Society's HIV science conference which is being held in Brisbane.

Andrew Grulich, an epidemiologist at the University of New South Wales who presented the research, told AFP that "we're very nearly there" some eight years ahead of the 2030 target.

Just 11 new HIV cases were recorded in inner Sydney last year, "an extraordinarily small number of infections for what was the heart of the Australian HIV epidemic," Grulich said.

It is estimated that gay men make up 20 per cent of the male population in inner Sydney. They represent a large majority of HIV cases in Sydney.

According to Grulich, several areas in the UK and Western Europe have also witnessed quick drops in new HIV cases.

But "I don't think anywhere has gotten close to 90 per cent," he added.

Since Sydney has "virtually" already reached the target, that shows that it is a feasible goal, he said.

<h2>There is a 'but'</h2>

Grulich warned that the present statistics do not mean that HIV is nearly eliminated in Sydney, a city of more than 5.2 million people.

"HIV can only be eliminated if we have a vaccine and a cure," he said.

And the drop in new HIV cases was far less precipitous in other parts of Sydney.

In outer suburbs of the city, there is a decrease of just 31 per cent in the number of new cases say researchers.

This disparity was due to a much rate higher of HIV testing and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) -- which reduces the risk of transmitting HIV during sex -- in the inner city, Grulich said.

Grulich added that another cause for progress was that around 95 per cent of HIV-positive&nbsp;people in Australia are now on antiretroviral treatment, which suppresses the level of the virus in the blood.

Another study announced at the AIDS conference, which was published in The Lancet journal, said that people on antiretrovirals who have low but detectible levels of HIV have almost zero risk of sexually transmitting the virus to others.

Indian student beaten up with iron rods by Khalistan supporters in Sydney: Report

Both Sydney Trains and the NSW government have extended their apologies for the widespread disruption caused by a peak-hour system shutdown on Thursday.

The incident occurred when a single staff member called in sick, resulting in significant delays and cancellations across multiple train lines, reported the Guardian.

Passengers were left stranded, stations became overcrowded, and even Town Hall Station had to be temporarily closed for safety reasons. While Sydney Trains rectified the staffing issue and arranged replacement buses, the incident highlights the need for improved contingency planning and staffing measures.

<h2>Massive disruption and overcrowded stations</h2>

The hour-long suspension of services on the T1 Western line between Parramatta and St Marys and T5 Cumberland line from Blacktown to Richmond left many commuters unable to reach their destinations.

The service cancellation at approximately 2:25 PM caused a domino effect of disruptions that persisted throughout the evening.

Sick worker's misfortune sparks citywide chaos in Sydney train network. Here's how

Alen Moradian, the drug lord who is also referred to as Sydney’s Tony Soprano, was shot dead by rival gang members in broad daylight in one of the town’s affluent suburbs on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at Spring Street in Bondi Junction around 8.30 am at an underground car park.

Moradian, aged in his 40s, was ambushed by two assailants and killed. The police who were informed of the incident rushed to the spot and saw the cocaine lord lying on the road in a pool of blood.

New South Wales police said that two men fired into his vehicle as he sat in the front seat.

“The shooting this morning bears the hallmarks of an organised crime murder,” Det Supt Danny Doherty told reporters.

“He’s a major player. He obviously had a big target on his back.”

According to The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Moradian was part of a secret cartel called the Commission, which controls the drug market in Sydney.

Alen Moradian, the drug lord who is also referred to as Sydney’s Tony Soprano, was shot dead by rival gang members in broad daylight in one of the town’s affluent suburbs on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at Spring Street in Bondi Junction around 8.30 am at an underground car park. Moradian, aged in his 40s, was ambushed by two assailants and killed. The police who were informed of the incident rushed to the spot and saw the cocaine lord lying on the road in a pool of blood. New South Wales police said that two men fired into his vehicle as he sat in the front seat. “The shooting this morning bears the hallmarks of an organised crime murder,” Det Supt Danny Doherty told reporters. “He’s a major player. He obviously had a big target on his back.” According to The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Moradian was part of a secret cartel called the Commission, which controls the drug market in Sydney. "The building is starting to collapse, while the inferno is beginning to spread to several neighbouring buildings, including residential apartments," Fire and Rescue NSW said in a statement, as reported by AFP.&nbsp;

As per&nbsp;the&nbsp;emergency services, more than 100 firemen with 20 fire trucks were "working to contain and extinguish the blaze" on Randle Street near the city's Central Station. At least one close vehicle has been destroyed by fire, they said.

"The public is urged to avoid the area as firefighting operations continue," the fires service said.

Images circulating on social media show flames soaring almost as high as the skyscraper itself into the sky.

The building in Sydney’s Surry Hills district was an old hat factory and its conversion into a hotel was planned, according to a recent development application, said&nbsp;city authorities.

Emergency services believe the building was vacant when the blaze started.

"All you could feel when standing here was heat on your face from the flames," one witness told public broadcaster ABC News.

"And when they started to move us back, a car just in front of the building caught fire."

A witness claimed to have seen pieces of the flaming structure fall onto the sidewalk. Commuters were also impacted by the fire, which shuttered roads and halted light rail services.

“It was essentially a candlestick,” a resident who lives about 100 metres from the blaze told Guardian Australia.

“It was basically apocalyptic, there was ash falling everywhere, the embers were raining down,” he added.

NSW Fire and Rescue’s deputy commissioner for field operations, Jeremy Fewtrell stated at a press conference on Thursday that there was no evidence of any injuries to members of the public and that no one was in the structure at the time of the fire.

One fireman suffered minor burns to his arm and is being treated by NSW EMS personnel.&nbsp;

Fewtrell said he'd seen similar-sized flames before, but what made this one stand out was how rapidly it spread and how many additional buildings were nearby.

“The risk of further fire spread is a real concern [and] our firefighters have worked very hard to stop that,” he said.

“There were some fires in there that spread into the apartment buildings, and firefighters were able to extinguish those, preventing them from penetrating further into the buildings and causing significant damage there,” he added.

<h2>Adjacent buildings at risk</h2>

As the building is situated close to residential buildings and backs into a small alley, the apartments, as well as adjoining offices and companies, were evacuated.

Students taking their final exams at Sydney Dental Hospital were evacuated at around 4.15pm (local time).

Fewtrell said that once the fire is put out, an investigation will be carried out.
