Police immediately secured the scene and conducted tests, confirming the organs were human. This grim discovery has sparked a search for the mother and newborn baby, with authorities expressing serious concerns for their health.

Superintendent Christine McDonald said lights had been brought in to allow the launch of a large-scale search on Monday night. However, the search resumed on Tuesday (May 28) morning with police divers searching the mangroves and the water’s edge.

Superintendent informed that it would take some time to work through the scene as it is muddy down there.

A dog who was especially trained to detect the blood also arrived on the scene on Tuesday morning after police secured the area for further forensic examination.

“Our search will identify what has happened here, whether the delivery of that child occurred at this location or another location is yet to be determined,” McDonald said. “I ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.”

“It’s very important and it’s extreme urgency we find the mother and the child as soon as we can. We ask she goes to a hospital. We will be contacting hospitals,” he added further.

However, the police urged the residents within the vicinity of Lang Road, Wardell Road, Ewen Park and Tennent Parade to come forward who may have seen a woman in distress.

Police informed that at this stage there was no evidence the baby had been harmed.

On Tuesday morning, investigators sent the placenta and umbilical cord for further testing. These tests aim to determine the gestational age of the baby, its gender, and how long the placenta and umbilical cord had been by the riverbank. This additional information could prove crucial in locating the mother and child.

The New South Wales health minister, Ryan Park, said, “My heart absolutely goes out to the mother and child, and repeated the advice from police – that she should attend a hospital.”

Frantic search for mother and baby after signs of birth found on Sydney riverbank

In a voting session held in Sydney's Cumberland Council, it was decided that a same-sex parenting book would be banned from its libraries. Cumberland Council includes the western Sydney suburbs of Merrylands, Granville and Auburn.

In a voting session held in Sydney's Cumberland Council, it was decided that a same-sex parenting book would be banned from its libraries. Cumberland Council includes the western Sydney suburbs of Merrylands, Granville and Auburn. The amendment was tabled by former mayor and current councillor Steve Christou in which it was proposed "that council take immediate action to rid same-sex parents books/materials in council's library service". Interestingly, Christou had not read the book on which the debate was being carried out. In the council's meeting, Christou brandished the book which he claimed received “really disturbing” constituent complaints and said that parents were “distraught” to see the book. The book in contention was Same-Sex Parents by Holly Duhig which was kept on the shelf in the children’s section of the library. According to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, the motion was passed as six councillors voted in favour of the amendment and five voted against it. A picture of the book was held up by Christou as he claimed that the book sparked multiple complaints from his constituents. On the book's cover, a gay male couple and their young son were featured. Also Read: Australia anticipates a smaller revenue upgrade citing global economic weakness “We’re going to make it clear tonight that … these kind of books, same-sex parents books, don’t find their way to our kids,” said Christou, during the debate. “Our kids shouldn’t be sexualised. This community is a very religious community, a very family-orientated community," he added, “They don’t want such controversial issues going against their beliefs indoctrinated in their libraries. This is not Marrickville or Newtown, this is the Cumberland city council," Christou said. Christou further stated that toddlers shouldn’t be “exposed” to same-sex content and added that the proposed amendment was “for the protection and safety of our children”. “Hands off our kids,” he said. Auburn MP Lynda Voltz raised concern over the resolution and appealed to NSW Arts Minister John Graham to look into the issue. “I am greatly concerned at the decision of Cumberland council and believe that it may possibly risk breaching the guidelines for funding of libraries and may also be in breach of the Anti-Discrimination Act,” Voltz said. “The overwhelming majority of the people in Auburn will tell you that everyone is welcome and we pride ourselves on being a peaceful and friendly community," the MP stated. Minister holds council responsible for censorship The council was accused by Graham of engaging in censorship. “When civilisations turn to burning books or banning books it is a very bad sign. That is equally true for local councils,” the minister said. Watch: Sydney Church Stabbing: Priest stabbed multiple times during sermon “It is up to readers to choose which book to take off the shelf. It should not be up to local councillors to make that choice for them or engage in censorship," he added. He stated that the decision could impact the ability of the library to receive funding from the government. Mayor Lisa Lake opposed the motion and stated she was “appalled and saddened” by the result. Lake claimed that the book had been kept in the library since 2019 and its presence was “nothing new”. The police in Australia uncovered a sinister plot where four teenagers had planned to buy guns and attack Jewish people, reported the Australian media citing official documents, on Monday (Apr 29). The plot reportedly surfaced days after a teenager allegedly stabbed Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel at a church, earlier this month.&nbsp;

<h2>What were the teenagers planning?</h2>

Five teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, were charged with a range of offences including conspiring to engage in or planning a terrorist act, on Thursday (Apr 25) in a Sydney court, reported the Associated Press.

According to the documents, four boys, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds allegedly used Signal, an encrypted messaging app to plan their attack. The police also alleged that they all “adhered to a religiously motivated, violent extremist ideology”.&nbsp;

The law enforcement officials said they were part of a network which included the 16-year-old who allegedly stabbed Emmanuel on April 15 during a church service.&nbsp;

“I wanna die and I wanna kill...I’m just excited...Is your plan to get caught or die or escape?” a 17-year-old allegedly said in a group chat on 20 April, as quoted by the AP.&nbsp;

“We’re gonna be planning for a while...we prefer to escape, but whatever happens, it’s the qadr (predetermination) of Allah,” a 16-year-old allegedly responded.&nbsp;

In a separate conversation, on April 19, a 15-year-old allegedly said, “I really want to target the yahood,” meaning Jewish people.&nbsp;

The 16-year-old allegedly said “I know the bloke who done it,” referring to the teenager who allegedly stabbed the bishop, adding “he’s my mate.”

<h2>Plot to buy guns</h2>

The Australian media, citing a police fact sheet, said two of the defendants discussed buying guns on April 19, the day that the 16-year-old who allegedly stabbed the bishop was charged.&nbsp;

Notably, Australia has strict laws against gun ownership, but Sydney reportedly has a black market for firearms.&nbsp;

The teens were among those arrested by the Australian police in raids across Sydney, last week, for allegedly following a violent extremist ideology.&nbsp;

“This young man who did this act almost two weeks ago, I say to you, my dear, you are my son and you will always be my son,” said Emmanuel in comments posted on social media.

He added, “I will always pray for you. I will always wish you nothing but the best.”

Australia: Teens planned to buy guns, attack Jewish people after Sydney bishop was stabbed

In a series of raids conducted across Sydney on Wednesday, Australian Police apprehended seven teenagers suspected of following a violent extremist ideology to prevent potential harm to the community, according to officials. The suspects, aged 15 to 17, are believed to be involved in the stabbing of a bishop in a Sydney church earlier this month.

The Joint Counter-Terrorism Team, which includes federal and state police, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, the country's main domestic spy agency, and the New South Wales Crime Commission, which specialises in extremists and organised crime, were also questioning five other teenagers late Wednesday.

Over 400 police officers executed 13 search warrants in southwest Sydney because they believed the suspects presented a threat. Deputy Commissioner David Hudson of the New South Wales Police Department told reporters, "We will allege that these individuals adhered to a religiously motivated, violent extremist ideology."

"It was considered that the group...posed an unacceptable risk and threat to the people of New South Wales, and our current purely investigative strategies could not adequately ensure public safety," he added.

Deputy Commissioner Krissy Barrett of the Australian Federal Police explained that, while detectives discovered no evidence of particular targets or timing for a violent act, the suspects were deemed a significant risk to public safety. The operation had nothing to do with the forthcoming Anzac Day, a national celebration in honour of fallen soldiers.

The arrests follow a recent knife attack at a Sydney church, which led to terrorism charges against a 16-year-old. The teen allegedly spoke in Arabic about the Prophet Muhammad being disrespected following the stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel and Reverend Isaac Royel at Christ the Good Shepherd Church, which was being broadcast live online during a service.&nbsp;

ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess said, "Australia's security service is always doing its thing to provide security intelligence that enables the police to deal with these problems when we have immediate threats to life or anything else that's evolving," Burgess said.

Sydney Church Attack: Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel calls attacker his son, forgives him

A Sydney man, Benjamin Cohen is suing an Australian channel after he was wrongly identified as the attacker in the incident that shocked the country’s biggest city. At least six people were killed when a knife-wielding man went on a stabbing spree at a crowded shopping centre in Sydney over the weekend.&nbsp;

<h2>'Disappointed'</h2>

Cohen, 20, is suing Australia’s Seven Network after he was wrongly identified as the attacker in the mass stabbing incident in the Westfield Bondi Junction mall on Saturday (Apr 13).&nbsp;

The university student has hired defamation lawyers and issued a concerns notice to the Australian channel, Patrick George of the law firm Giles/George confirmed, on Wednesday (Apr 17) morning.&nbsp;

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Cohen has engaged two of Australia’s foremost defamation lawyers, Patrick as his solicitor and Sue Chrysanthou as his barrister.&nbsp;

The 20-year-old has sought damages from the broadcaster, which on Sunday (Apr 14) morning named Cohen, a student at the University of Technology Sydney, as the perpetrator.&nbsp;

Joel Cauchi, who was identified as the attacker, was fatally shot by the police during his knife attack. The officials have since ruled out terrorism and said the 40-year-old had a history of mental illness.

The 20-year-old university student’s name was trending on X until Sunday with more than 70,000 posts naming him as the unconfirmed killer. The Australian channel later described him as “40-year-old lone-wolf attacker Benjamin Cohen”.

However, Cohen’s family told ABC News that the Seven had contacted them and explained that a junior social media editor made the error. However, the channel did not reveal where their newsroom got the university student’s name from.&nbsp;

In a statement to Guardian Australia, Cohen said that he was disappointed to see “thousands of people mindlessly propagating misinformation” without fact-checking or considering the real-life consequences.&nbsp;

He added, “But what’s even more disappointing to me is a major news network doing this, using my name without waiting for a statement from police to verify this or going out to try to verify it themselves.”

The channel later issued an on-air apology saying that it “apologises for any distress caused by our earlier reports.”&nbsp;

<h2>Westfield Bondi Junction mall to reopen</h2>

The shopping centre which was the site of the deadly attack will re-open for shoppers on Friday (Apr 19). The Scentre Group, which operates Westfield malls in Australia and New Zealand, said that the security and police presence will be ramped up when the shopping centre re-opens.&nbsp;

The mall will also be open a day earlier for a “community reflection day” which will allow people to pay their respects to the victims of the tragedy and recognise that “things don’t return back to normal immediately,” said the CEO of the group, Elliott Rusanow.&nbsp;

<h2>Nine-month-old baby out of ICU</h2>

A nine-month-old baby girl who was among those injured in the attack and has been in the intensive care unit (ICU) since, is out of ICU now, after she sustained&nbsp;chest and arm injuries.&nbsp;

The daughter of one of the victims, identified as Ashlee Good killed during the attack, was taken to the hospital in serious condition but is now stable, said health officials.&nbsp;

Six, including the infant girl, remained hospitalised following the assault, with two women in critical condition, said a spokesperson for New South Wales Health.

However, Cohen’s family told ABC News that the Seven had contacted them and explained that a junior social media editor made the error. However, the channel did not reveal where their newsroom got the university student’s name from. In a statement to Guardian Australia, Cohen said that he was disappointed to see “thousands of people mindlessly propagating misinformation” without fact-checking or considering the real-life consequences. He added, “But what’s even more disappointing to me is a major news network doing this, using my name without waiting for a statement from police to verify this or going out to try to verify it themselves.” The channel later issued an on-air apology saying that it “apologises for any distress caused by our earlier reports.” Westfield Bondi Junction mall to reopen The shopping centre which was the site of the deadly attack will re-open for shoppers on Friday (Apr 19). Sydney attack: Sydney mall attack victims identified

Australian police have said that the man, who fatally stabbed six people at a shopping centre in Bondi, Sydney, may have been targetting women.

On Saturday (April 13), 40-year-old Joel Cauchi created chaos and panic amid the crowd in the Westfield Bondi Junction complex as he started stabbing people using a long blade.

Among the six people who died from stabbing, five were women. Many others, including a baby, also suffered injuries.

Speaking to Australia's ABC News, New South Wales police commissioner said that it was "obvious" Cauchi was aiming at women.

The lone man&nbsp;killed in the stabbing attack&nbsp;was a 30-year-old security guard named Faraz Tahir who suffered injuries while trying to intervene in the attack.&nbsp;

Speaking to ABC News Breakfast, commissioner Karen Webb said, "The videos speak for themselves, don't they? It's obvious to me, it's obvious to detectives... that the offender focused on women and avoided the men. That's certainly a line for inquiry for us."

According to the witnesses, the attacker was wearing shorts and an Australian national rugby league jersey. He was seen running in the mall while carrying a knife in his hand. Inspector Amy Scott confronted the man and killed him.

According to the police, Cauchi had mental health issues earlier and no other specific motive was determined.

The police already knew the man, however, he was never charged or arrested in his home state Queensland. According to the Queensland Police, the man was first diagnosed with mental illness at the age of 17.

Sydney attack: Attacker identified, probe underway

An Indian-origin couple found themselves in the middle of the chaos that ensued during the Sydney stabbings. Notably, a man went on a stabbing spree at a bustling Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre in Sydney killing six.

Indian couple, Shoi Ghoshal and her husband, Debashis Chakrabarty, recounted their harrowing experience in a conversation with a Western media outlet. The duo detailed to BBC how they sought refuge in a backroom in a bid to fortify themselves with cardboard boxes alongside dozens of others.

Ghoshal also described the initial confusion within the store. She said that there were sounds of commotion leading to the realisation of a grave threat. But they thought it was a fire at the shopping hub.&nbsp;

But she recalled “people were saying someone is stabbing rampantly”. “We went into a backroom, a storeroom, and used boxes to barricade ourselves in,” she added.

As per Ghoshal, there were about 20 to 25 people who were seeking cover at the storeroom. As they huddled together, Ghoshal recounted the anguish of an elderly woman separated from her husband outside.

Amid distress, the group maintained contact with authorities. Later, they received instructions to remain calm and await rescue. They were eventually evacuated through the emergency exit. Upon their exit, they saw many police cars positioned there.

The recently found package is among several others that have been discovered around Sydney sporadically since three days before Christmas last year.&nbsp;

“As inquiries continue, the public are reminded to report any suspicious package to authorities,” said the New South Wales (NSW) police, in a statement on Tuesday (Apr 2).&nbsp;

<h2>Months-long mystery</h2>

Since the first discovery in December, packages containing more than 250 kilogrammes of cocaine have been found along the coast of the Australian state.&nbsp;

On December 22, 2023, a package of illicit drugs was found in the Central Coast region, around 90 kg,&nbsp;north of Sydney&nbsp;three days before Christmas.&nbsp;

Similar packages have also been discovered in Western Australia and Victoria after being washed ashore. Meanwhile, several beaches in NSW have reported such packages since December.&nbsp;

Two larger containers that had up to 39 kg&nbsp;of cocaine were found at northern beaches and at Ocean Baths a day after Christmas, on Boxing Day.&nbsp;

The police believe the packages have arrived on cargo ships from South America and that these consignments may be thrown into the ocean to be picked up elsewhere.&nbsp;

Some of the bricks found were said to be covered in barnacles, and following their analysis, detectives indicated that the packages were in the water no more than six weeks before being discovered.
