Amid the escalating US-Iran war, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Tehran over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Trump said if Iran attempts to block oil flows through the strait, the United States would respond with “death, fire and fury” and strike Iran “20 times harder” than before.

US-Iran War: Trump Threatens Iran with 'Fire & Fury' Over Strait of Hormuz

Global markets are plunging as fears over oil distribution rise amid the ongoing Israel–Iran war. Investors are concerned that continued conflict could disrupt shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supply.

Israel-Iran War: Global Sell Off Deepens As Oil Distribution Fears Rise

Britain currently has only about two days' worth of natural gas stored, sparking concerns about a potential shortage after conflict in the Middle East led to the shutdown of the world's largest gas facility and Iran blocked a key shipping channel. The new data published by Natural Gas has confirmed that the UK's gas reserves have diminished from 18,000 GWh last year to 6,700 GWh, which can meet up to just 1.5 days of demand. A similar volume is also held in liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage. In contrast, many European countries have stored up several weeks of gas reserves, leaving them better equipped to handle supply disruptions. Because the UK has limited storage and must keep importing fuel, traders have been able to charge higher prices, forcing Britain to outbid European buyers. As a result, the UK is now paying the highest wholesale gas prices in Europe, according to a report in the the Daily Mail.
Closure of the Strait of Hormuz
The disruption in the gas market is partly driven by the near-total closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route that carries nearly 20 percent of the oil flows and world's natural gas, along with production shutdowns in some places. At the beginning of the week, Qatar declared that it had suspended production at Ras Laffan, the largest natural gas facility of the world, following the Iranian bombardment. Meanwhile, oil prices are likely to hit $100 a barrel sooner, rising to $150 if the war drags on, industry experts warned. The head of gas pricing at Argus Media, Natasha Fielding, said: "The price of gas in the UK has increased by more than almost anywhere in Europe. The UK gas hub price is now above the Dutch TTF [the main European gas hub] all the way from now until the end of May. Before this week, the UK was priced below the EU." She added that this was partly because the UK's meagre gas stockpiles that left 'more exposed to price spikes', and added: 'We can’t rely on withdrawing more from storage, so we have to get that gas from abroad.' Fielding underscored that traders might be tracking temperatures in Britain, waiting for more severe cold in the UK when it will be more urgently compelled to outbid other countries for gas. Earlier, the UK used to have gas stockpiling facilities for 12 day, however, the system collapsed after the funding was pulled out by the successive government ministers. The data of National Gas indicated that gas stores on Friday were at 18pc of their former capacity, while LNG storage were just nearly half full. A National Gas spokesman stated that most of the UK's gas comes from Norway and its own North Sea. "The UK benefits from a wide range of gas supply sources. These provide the flexibility needed to balance supply and demand," the spokeperson told The Telegraph. At the same time, concerns are mounting that oil prices could surge sharply due to disruptions in shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned they would “set ablaze” any Western tanker attempting to pass through the strategic waterway, prompting hundreds of vessels to gather at both entrances of the strait while waiting for safe passage. Also read: Iran selects its new supreme leader amid raging war with US, Israel

If the conflict involving Iran and the Gulf states, resulting from the Israel-US joint operation and retaliatory strikes by Tehran, does not stop by Friday, there could be a supply cut of 3.3 million barrels per day of crude oil. The warning from JP Morgan came amid disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, which is the world’s key oil transit chokepoint. The strait carries nearly a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows.
Iran Revolutionary Guards claim to have taken total control of Strait of Hormuz
The situation escalated amid Iranian media reports that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards have closed the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran would fire on any ship attempting to pass. If the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted by Iran, countries like Iraq and Kuwait could cut 3.3 million bpd of crude oil production. This risks Gulf crude supply losses and a sharp spike in global oil prices

As the US-Iran war intensifies and tensions disrupt key oil routes, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States may escort oil tankers through the strategic Strait of Hormuz to ensure the continued flow of global energy supplies.

US-Iran War: Trump Says US May Escort Oil Tankers Through Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump announced that he has directed the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide political risk insurance and financial guarantees for ships traveling through the Gulf, as tensions escalate around the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Effective IMMEDIATELY, I have ordered the United States Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide, at a very reasonable price, political risk insurance and guarantees for the Financial Security of ALL Maritime Trade, especially Energy, traveling through the Gulf. This will be available to all Shipping Lines.” He added, "If necessary, the United States Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, as soon as possible. No matter what, the United States will ensure the FREE FLOW of ENERGY to the WORLD. The United States’ ECONOMIC and MILITARY MIGHT is the GREATEST ON EARTH, More actions to come." Also Read: WATCH | Drone hits near US consulate in Dubai, no injuries reported

The announcement follows threats from Iran to target vessels passing through the strategic waterway. Several tankers have already reported attacks in the region. Maritime insurers including Skuld, Steamship Mutual, and North Standard have notified clients that they are ending coverage for war-related risks in nearby waters, leaving ship operators exposed to potential losses. Tom Kloza, an independent oil analyst who advises Gulf Oil, told CNN: “I don’t think Iran can shut down the Strait of Hormuz, but insurance companies and vessel operators can.” Trump’s initiative is designed to fill the insurance gap, offering financial protection to vessels that have lost commercial coverage. https://www.wionews.com/videos/israel-lebanon-war-israel-vows-to-expand-lebanon-strikes-after-hezbollah-fire-1772572461995/embed Shipping traffic has already declined sharply. Data from S&P Global Commodities at Sea shared with CNN shows only two oil and chemical tankers transited the strait on Monday, compared with a typical daily average of around 60 vessels. The corridor normally carries about 20% of global oil flows. Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing conflicts in West Asia involving Israel, Iran, US, Gulf nations and non-state actors like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, Islamic State, and others. Oil prices have surged for the 3rd day straight, as the US-Israel offensive on Iran has widened. One of the biggest threats of any conflict involving Iran was the spillover of the tension on the shipping route, the Strait of Hormuz, which carries one-fifth of the global oil supply.“The price of oil has reached $81/bbl, and the world is certainly waiting for it to reach at least $200. The Spot prices have also seen a cumulative jump of 10 per cent since the pre-conflict period, with Brent at $77.82 per barrel for Brent, WTI spot at $70.90 per barrel, and Murban spot at around $79 per barrel. The surge in oil prices was apparent in US gas stations as the US had an average price of gasoline that topped $3 per gallon for the first time since November.
