While KL Rahul-led Punjab scored 206/3 in 20 overs, the average score in Dubai is around 160-170. Team winning the toss will look to bat first given the dew factor in the game.

Kings XI Punjab captain KL Rahul hammered a stunning century against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 but said he was lacking confidence in his skills as a batsman ahead of the match, which was played in Dubai.

Rahul scored an unbeaten 132 off 69 deliveries as KXIP thumped RCB by 97 runs. Rahul now has the highest-ever score by an Indian in IPL history.

"I have actually been not so confident (hitting it this well). I had a chat with Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) yesterday, he said how are you feeling, I said that I am not feeling completely in control of my batting, he said you must be joking, you are hitting really well," Rahul said at the post-match presentation.

Rahul had already spoken about his fears of losing skills leading up to the IPL as all the players returned to the field after a prolonged break due to COVID-19 pandemic.

"Quite honestly I was nervous but I knew if I spend time in the middle, hit a few balls from the middle of bat, it will all settle down.

"I try to do (the same routines as I did when I was a player) but as a captain you have shortened time and you are running around and doing a lot of things," Rahul said.

"I still try to maintain the same routine. Once I am in the middle and during the toss is the only time I feel like a captain and otherwise I try to balance being a player and the captain," he said.

After Rahul starred with the bat, KXIP bowlers put a disciplined performance to bundle out RCB for 109 in 17 overs.

"It's as complete a team performance as it can get. We had few different plans going into this game.

"We knew RCB have a power packed batting line up and we had to get 2-3 wickets up front and that also meant putting runs on the board, we know what these guys can do if they get set. The analyst, coaches and the management will be happy."

Rahul, who is in-charge of leading KXIP in IPL 2020, heaped praises on youngster Ravi Bishnoi, who again impressed while bagging three wickets against RCB.

"Something that has impressed me in him (Bishoni's heart of coming back even after an expensive start). I watched the U-19 World Cup. He has a lot of fight in him.

"Every time I throw the ball he wants to do well, he was a little nervous bowling at guys like Finchy and AB, once he got through that he did well," added Rahul.

The French Open at Roland Garros was braced Wednesday to cut its crowd limit once again to as low as 1,000 fans a day after the government announced new limits in its battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

French tennis chiefs had already reduced the number of fans allowed in for the season's concluding Grand Slam event, which starts Sunday in Paris, to 5,000 ten days ago, down from 11,500.

However, on Wednesday, health minister Olivier Veran demanded new limits at sports grounds in 11 'red zones' in the country, one of which includes the French capital.

"To date, we have no confirmation on the conditions of organisation of the tournament," said a French Tennis Federation spokesman.

This new ceiling of 5,000 will apply "from Saturday after consultation between the prefects and local elected officials", said Veran.

The health minister also announced "the closure of sports halls and gymnasiums" because "they are confined spaces ....and which are unfortunately places of significant contamination".

These new measures, which will last for a period of two weeks, also concern the areas of Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice, Lille, Toulouse, Saint-Etienne, Rennes, Rouen, Grenoble and Montpellier.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria received a four-match ban on Wednesday for spitting during this month's fiery Marseille game which saw five players red-carded and claims by Neymar of racial abuse.

Di Maria's suspension meted out by Ligue 1's disciplinary commission was for spitting at Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez.

It takes effect from September 29, meaning he can play against Reims on Sunday, returning the weekend of November 8.

Neymar's accusation that Gonzalez racially abused him will be investigated on September 30, the commission announced.

Neymar was sent off for slapping Gonzalez on the back of the head, accusing the Spaniard of calling him a "monkey". Gonzalez denies the charge.

The world's most expensive player was served with a two-match ban last week for that incident in the September 13 fixture at the Parc des Princes.

Also last week PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa incurred a six-match ban for kicking out at Marseille left-back Jordan Amavi, who was hit with a suspension of three games after he too was dismissed.

And Leandro Paredes was banned for two games after he was sent off for a clash with fellow Argentine Dario Benedetto, who was also red-carded and suspended.

Marseille won the game 1-0.

The French league's disicplinary commission is also investigating accusations that Neymar made racist remarks towards Marseille's Japanese right-back Hiroki Sakai and made a homophobic slur against Gonzalez.

Any player found guilty of racist or discriminatory abuse risks a ban of up to 10 matches.

Lewis Hamilton seeks to equal Michael Schumacher's record 91 Formula One wins at the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi on Sunday despite fears over a potential coronavirus fall-out from allowing 30,000 fans to attend.

The six-time world champion is one win away from what once was believed to be an untouchable total, but he will be a clear favourite to succeed on a track where he has triumphed four times in six years.

He has also reeled off six wins in nine races this season to open up a 55-point lead ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas in the title race, the Finn and former team-mate 2016 champion Nico Rosberg being the only other victors since Sochi arrived on the calendar.

Another Mercedes win at the former home of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games would also be a record for most successive victories by a team at a single Grand Prix.

But all involved with the champions are aware that not only is the event set to be the first sporting occasion to host a major crowd in the Covid-19 era, but it will also see the team shadowed by a Netflix film crew.

The organisers say 30,000 spectators are expected and that the race is sold out.

The cameras will be recording content for the third 'Drive to Survive' series – and tip-toeing around their subjects, hoping to avoid a repeat of events in Germany last year.

Then, at the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, run in teeming rain, Mercedes celebrated 125 years of motorsport with their worst performance of the season – a flu-struck Hamilton ending up classified ninth and Bottas crashing out from fourth.

"It made a very entertaining episode for Netflix," said Mercedes team chief Toto Wolff. “

"But this time, we hope we can have great content – and have a great race."

Hamilton, lauded this week as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world this year, has approached the race with humility.

"I never thought that I would be here, that's for sure," he said after his 90th career triumph at the Tuscan Grand Prix two weeks ago.

"It just does not seem real to me."

His greatest rival this weekend is likely to be team-mate Bottas, winner on the tight Sochi track in 2017, his maiden triumph.

The Finn has proved himself to be a force on the circuit that suits his style and knows he has to wreck Hamilton's party to stay in the championship race.

After two pointless exits with car failures, Max Verstappen of Red Bull will be seeking a return to his earlier form.

"It's not easy in Sochi and the track is not a favourite for us with a lot of long straights – it's not easy to overtake," he said.

While the 30,000 fans attending the Olympic Park circuit enjoy a rare glimpse of live sport, F1's top officials are reported to be anxious about the potential threat from coronavirus.

Russia has exceeded one million cases of Covid-19 – one of only four nations to do so – and after nine events run behind closed doors in strictly-controlled bubbles, this relaxation of the tight controls has not been welcomed warmly by all in the paddock.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was impressed by Kai Havertz’s performance on Wednesday after he netted a hat-trick in their 6-0 League Cup win over Barnsley and said it was just the first of many great nights to come from the Germany international.

Havertz struggled in Premier League games against Brighton and Hove Albion and Liverpool but showed on Wednesday why Chelsea spent 71 million pounds ($90 million) to get him from Bayer Leverkusen.

“I said in the last two games that Kai has had no pre-season and in signing for the club, I think it took a few days out as well,” Lampard told reporters.

“We had to play him because we had a few injuries and tonight was a great exercise and another game for him to see how we work off the ball, to be part of that.

“The combinations he had with Tammy Abraham, the way he grew into the game and had confidence and the three goals. It was a great night for Kai and the first of many for him.”

Lampard also confirmed that Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy had completed his medical ahead of his move from Rennes.

Kings XI Punjab on Thursday registered a thumping win over Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai as they won the match by 97 runs to clinch their first win of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

KL Rahul was the star for KXIP with the willow as he hammered an unbeaten 132 laced with 14 boundaries and seven sixes. Rahul’s 132 not-out became the highest-ever score by an Indian cricketer in IPL and also the highest-ever score by a captain in IPL as the KXIP skipper registered the first century of IPL 2020 in style.

While Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran and Karun Nair played some handy knocks, it was Rahul who dominated the show as he smashed the RCB bowlers all over the park. RCB’s bowling has to be deemed as poor with the likes of Umesh Yadav and Dale Steyn spraying it all over the pitch. KXIP went on to post a mammoth target of 206/3 in 20 overs.

The International Cricket Council has expressed sadness at the passing of former Australia international Dean Jones at the age of 59.

In a statement, ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said: “We are extremely sad to hear of Dean’s sudden death and I would like to extend our deep condolences to his family and friends on behalf of the ICC.

“Dean was a prolific batter playing in 52 Tests and 164 ODIs and was part of the 1987 Australia team who won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. He had a significant impact on the game of cricket as a player, as an advocate for the development of the sport as a coach and latterly in his role as a broadcaster. He will be sorely missed by all those in the cricket family.”

An attacking batter, the Victorian featured in 52 Tests, making 3631 runs at an average of 46.55. In 164 ODIs, he made 6068 runs, at 44.61, with seven hundreds and 46 fifties. He was part of Australia's winning team in the 1987 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and remains number five on the all-time MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Batting Rankings in the format.

One of his most memorable Test innings came in 1986, when in the heat and humidity of Chennai, he battled exhaustion and illness to make a heroic 210 in what would be only the second tied Test ever.

He retired from international cricket in 1994 and went on to become a coach and more recently a broadcaster commentating on cricket around the world.

US sports figures who have used their platforms to back the Black Lives Matter movement and call for police reform reacted with dismay to the charges filed Wednesday in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

Taylor, an emergency room technician, was shot dead after three plainclothes policemen turned up at her door in the middle of the night to execute a search warrant.

A grand jury in Louisville, Kentucky charged detective Brett Hankison with three counts of "wanton endangerment" over shots fired into adjoining apartments.

Neither Hankison nor the two officers who fired the shots that killed Taylor were charged in direct connection with her death.

"Something was done, but it wasn't enough. Most guys thought it was definitely not enough," Los Angeles Lakers guard Danny Green told reporters after the team trained in the NBA's quarantine bubble in Orlando, Florida.

Messages backing the Black Lives Matter movement and calls for police reform have been a hallmark of the league's return to play in the wake of a coronavirus hiatus.

"I'm devastated, hurt, sad, mad!" LeBron James wrote on Twitter. "We want Justice for Breonna yet justice was met for her neighbors apartment walls and not her beautiful life.

"Was I surprised at the verdict. Absolutely not but damnit I was & still am hurt and heavy hearted! I send my love to Breonna mother, family and friends! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!!"

The playoffs were halted in the bubble for three days after Milwaukee Bucks players, shocked by the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin, refused to take to the court and players on other teams backed their move.

Green said NBA players would continue to try to find ways to promote the cause of racial justice and police reform.

"It's a tough one. We're still trying to make the proper steps... What happened today wasn't enough. We felt, and I'm sure most people around the country felt the same."

- 'So demoralizing' -

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke about the grand jury decision to The Athletic after his NBA team trained in California.

"It's just so demoralizing. It's so discouraging," said Kerr.

"I just keep thinking about the generation of American kids of any color. Is this way the way we want to raise them? Is this the country we want to live in? There's just so much violence and it's demoralizing when we can't be accountable or hold anyone to account for it."

Boston Celtics Jaylen Brown wasn't expecting Taylor's killers to be indicted.

"To be honest I wasn't surprised by the verdict," said Brown after Wednesday night's playoff game. "This society, the way it was built .... its intentions were to never protect and serve people of color."

Dismayed reactions weren't limited to the NBA.

Megan Rapinoe, the trailblazing World Cup star and feminist icon who earned FIFA's 2019 Women's Ballon d'Or after starring for the World Cup-winning United States called the decision "devastating."

"My heart is with the family of Breonna Taylor right now," Rapinoe said on social media. "My god. This is devastating and unfortunately not surprising. Black and brown folx in this country deserve so much more."

As they say Indian Premier League (IPL) is a platform where talent meets opportunity and that was once again proven when young spinner Ravi Bishnoi made the grand platform his own in what was a scintillating debut for the leggie, who was also the highest wicket-taker in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2020 after scalping a staggering 17 dismissals off just six matches.

Bishnoi, just ahead of the U-19 World Cup, was signed by Kings XI Punjab in the IPL 2020 auction for a whopping INR 2 crore and the 20-year-old has already hit the right chords with his longish and unique run-up which enables him to use his shoulders to get that drift.

Bagging the big wicket of Rishabh Pant and bowling bravely to big names like Shimron Hetmyer and Shreyas Iyer with confidence, Bishnoi ended up with the figures of 4-0-22-1 in his debut IPL match.

“It was a great feeling out there! IPL is such a massive platform, the biggest T20 league in the world and to do well in the debut match is always huge. There are times when a bowler bowls a good spell but goes without a wicket but thankfully I scalped one against Delhi Capitals and that helped me grow in confidence,” Ravi Bishnoi told WION’s Subhayan Chakraborty in an exclusive interview.

Ben Stokes expected to join Rajasthan Royals squad in 'early October': Report

Manchester United moved into the League Cup fourth round with a 3-0 win at Luton, while West Ham boss David Moyes and two of his players contracted the coronavirus ahead of their 5-1 victory against Hull as the pandemic caused chaos on Tuesday.

Moyes, Josh Cullen and Issa Diop all left the London Stadium after learning of the tests before kick-off and will self-isolate, with the trio said to be asymptomatic.

West Ham were not the only Premier League club affected by the virus as Tottenham's tie at Leyton Orient was postponed after their fourth tier opponents suffered a Covid-19 outbreak.

West Ham's match went ahead as planned despite the virus tests, with assistant manager Alan Irvine taking charge of the Hammers.

"At 20 past six we suddenly got some information from our doctor and head physio to say there were three positive tests, the manager and the two players," Irvine said.

"We'd had contact insofar as we were in the same area of the stadium as David.

"We were shocked by the news. We've had so many tests and not had any positive. But we've been very particular about protocol right from the start."

Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko both struck twice for West Ham after Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring.

West Ham will play Fleetwood or Everton in the last 16.

The news of the virus striking at football's heart came after British Prime Minster Boris Johnson dealt a major blow to the sport's financial future on Tuesday.

Johnson said fans would not be allowed back into stadiums in October as originally planned due to a spike in virus cases, measures that will remain in place for "perhaps six months".

At Kenilworth Road, United bounced back from a dismal 3-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener on Saturday.

In United's first meeting with Championship side Luton since 1992, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 10 changes, giving full debuts to goalkeeper Dean Henderson and close-season signing Donny Van De Beek.

United went ahead in the 44th minute when George Moncur fouled Brandon Williams and Juan Mata dispatched the penalty.

Henderson is hoping to replace the error-prone David De Gea after an impressive loan at Sheffield United last season.

He preserved United's advantage with his only save of the match in the final minutes, keeping out Tom Lockyer's header at the far post.

Marcus Rashford came off the bench to net in the 88th minute before fellow substitute Mason Greenwood's stoppage-time goal put a flattering gloss on the scoreline.

"Going through is the big thing. There are some positives, the keeper does his job and we scored some nice goals towards the end," said Solskjaer, whose side will travel to Brighton or Preston in the fourth round.

Henderson tweeted: "I dreamt about this my whole life. Unbelievable feeling to make my debut for the club I love."

Tottenham's clash with Orient has yet to be rearranged amid reports Jose Mourinho's men could be given a bye into the last 16, where they would face Chelsea or Barnsley.

Orient had revealed the positive cases on Monday after Tottenham paid for their opponents' testing, but the match was not called off until two hours before kick-off.

"If I was doing this again I would not do the testing - this is an incentive not to test and that is bad for football and bad for health and safety," Orient chairman Nigel Travis told the BBC.

West Bromwich Albion crashed out against second tier Brentford, losing 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns.

Grady Diangana was the only Albion player to miss in the shoot-out and Christian Norgaard netted Brentford's winner to earn a tie against Fulham or Sheffield Wednesday.

Newport reached the competition's last 16 for the first time in their history as the fourth tier side beat Championship club Watford 3-1.

Manchester United moved into the League Cup fourth round with a 3-0 win at Luton, while West Ham boss David Moyes and two of his players contracted the coronavirus ahead of their 5-1 victory against Hull as the pandemic caused chaos on Tuesday.

But we've been very particular about protocol right from the start." Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko both struck twice for West Ham after Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring. Man Utd reach League Cup last 16 as coronavirus causes chaos

Bayern Munich can lift yet more silverware when they face Sevilla on Thursday for the UEFA Super Cup, but travelling German fans have been warned to think again before flying to Budapest and head coach Hansi Flick has questioned whether the match should go ahead amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Champions League winners head to Hungary on a 22-match winning streak, stretching back to February, which has seem them sweep up Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup titles.

Bayern opened the new Bundesliga season last Friday with an 8-0 hammering of Schalke with Germany winger Leroy Sane scoring on his Munich debut and declaring the "whole team showed how hungry we are".

Their appetite for more silverware can be sated with two trophies up for grabs in the coming week as they also face Dortmund for the German Super Cup on September 30.

However Covid-19 has cast a shadow over Thursday's showdown as Budapest has been declared a risk zone by the German government due to a high infection rate.

Flick admits he "does not quite understand" why UEFA insist on the match still taking place there, "but we are not the ones who make the decision".

On Tuesday, Markus Soeder, state premier of Bavaria, announced tighter rules, "which particularly affect the Super Cup" for travelling Bayern fans.

"Everyone should think again about whether it is sensible to travel," added Soeder.

Supporters must either be tested for Covid-19 before and after the trip to Budapest or quarantine for two weeks.

"This is how we want to prevent there being a possible risk of infection," explained Soeder.

Only 500 Sevilla and 1300 Bayern fans are expected to watch the match at Budapest's Puskas Arena.

Both clubs have set up test centres in their respective cities in a bid to reduce the risk of Thursday's match becoming a 'super spreader' event.

On Monday, Soeder had already expressed doubt whether the game in Budapest should go ahead.

Bayern's senior bosses, including chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, were heavily criticised for ignoring social distancing and sitting in a close group to watch Friday's demolition of Schalke in Munich.

Rummenigge has promised to do better in Budapest, pledging "we all agree that the picture (of the group) was not exemplary - we must and will change this for the next game".

Bayern's star striker Robert Lewandowski, who netted a penalty and set up two more goals on Friday, trained for just 12 minutes on Tuesday to allow him to get over an ankle knock.

Sevilla come into the match short of match fitness having been given the first two weekends of La Liga off after winning the Europa League.

Ibrahim Amadou, Roque Mesa, Aleix Vidal and Joris Gnagnon, who are all expected to leave the club, did not train in Julen Lopetegui's final session on Tuesday.

Sevilla have re-signed Ivan Rakitic, who is likely to start against Bayern, having been part of Barcelona's 8-2 humiliation at the hands of the Germans in August, albeit watching from the bench.

Sevilla have won the Europa League five times in the last 14 years but have only once gone on to win the Super Cup, which was the first attempt in 2006.

This is the first time since 2013 - when they beat Borussia Dortmund in that season's Champions League final - that Bayern will contest the Super Cup.

Fans warned as Bayern head to virus risk zone for Super Cup

It will take some time to see MS Dhoni - the finisher, that everyone is waiting for, says Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming

As his side fell short in its run chase against Rajasthan Royals despite having the former India captain at the crease.

Dhoni came out to bat at number seven in Tuesday's match and took time to settle down before unleashing his powerful shots. By the time he found his range, he did not have much balls at his disposal to knock off the required runs.

They eventually lost the match by 16 runs with Dhoni staying unbeaten on 29 off 17 balls.

Dhoni argued that the extended two-week quarantine of his side hampered his preparations as he did not get enough time for practice.

"We have this question every year. He was in in the 14th over, which is pretty much optimal time, and sort of batted accordingly. He is coming back from not playing a huge amount of cricket," Fleming said at the post-match press conference.

"So, the expectations to see him at his best is gonna take some time. But you see him towards the end, he was very good. Faf du Plessis carried the form, so we weren't too far away. It wasn't the batting that was the worry to be honest."

Dhoni sent the likes of Sam Curran and Kedar Jadhav ahead of him.

Asked about the rationale behind the move, the former New Zealand captain said, "MS is a specialist towards the end of the innings, always has been. Curran was there trying to hit and keep us in the game at that point when we were falling behind. He's got good hitting power like we saw."

"Ruturaj...It was his first game and we wanted to get him into the game into the order. We wanted to be aggressive, we've got a long batting order and we're just trying to use our resources smartly."

Fleming said his spinners were slow in adjusting the length of their deliveries (they bowled overpitched). Sanju Samson (74) was on fire against their spinners.

"Their (RR) hitting was very good in the 8 overs they faced. It was a good surface (to bat) and we were slow on adjusting. We did not adjust quickly. There was intent to adjust but execution was poor.

"So it was dangerous time and we had to just hang in there and try. We came close to pulling back to a manageable score but that last over took us out of reach."

Royals' tail-ender Jofra Archer hit Lungi Ngidi four sixes in the final over which yielded 30 runs to take the total to 216 for 7.

Royals' captain Steve Smith said Samson's brilliant performance has given him more options at top of the order.

"Samson takes the game head on and he hit some seriously good sixes. He has a positive intent and my role was to give him more strike. Fortunately it worked well," Smith, who was playing his first match after suffering concussion related issues in the United Kingdom, said.

"It gives more options. Samson played incredibly well. It seems everything he was hitting was going for a six. It was a serious innings. Jos (Buttler) coming for next game it is a big plus for us. Jofra (Archer) at the back end was absolutely amazing."

The star Australian batsman, however, said that Buttler is likely to bat as opener in their next game.

"We will wait and see. It gives options, does not it. We will do what we think is the best. Jos obviously has an incredible record on top. He probably slots himself back and it gives options for sure."

Talking about Jofra's batting heroics, Smith said, "Jofra at the end was magnificent, getting us up to that total. He loves batting, he is a terrific player for us and did well with the ball as well."

Luis Suarez left his last Barcelona training session in tears on Wednesday as he prepares for a move to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

Spanish television channel Gol showed the Uruguayan striker wiping away tears with his sleeve as he drove off after saying his last goodbyes.

Suarez had become close friends with above all Lionel Messi since his arrival at the Catalan club in 2014.

Catalan daily Sport confirmed: "Luis Suarez left the Sant Joan Despi training centre in tears. The Uruguayan player greeted his teammates for his last training before signing his exit papers."

"At the end of the session the Uruguayan said goodbye to those who were his teammates over the past six years," Spanish sports daily Marca reported.

At the start of the week Marca endorsed an earlier report on RAC1 radio announcing that the 33-year-old was "no longer a Barcelona player".

It said that he decided to forgo a percentage of this season's salary in return for being allowed to leave.

All the signs are that he is poised to join Diego Simeone's Atletico, who like Barca make their La Liga seasonal bow this weekend.

"It's done, Luis Suarez is going to Atletico," Marca announced on its front page on Wednesday.

Suarez's days at Barca were numbered ever since new coach Ronald Koeman included him in a list of players he said he wouldn't be counting on for the new season.

Others not in Koeman's plans were Arturo Vidal (since moved to Inter Milan), Ivan Rakitic (Sevilla) and Samuel Umtiti.

Since joining Barca from Liverpool in 2014 Suarez has won a host of trophies including the 2015 Champions League and four Liga titles.

He leaves as the club's third highest scorer with 198 goals behind Cesar Rodriguez (232) and Messi (634).

The Atletico move follows his failed attempt to join Juventus.

Juve coach Andrea Pirlo disclosed last week a deal was unlikely because of delays in the Uruguayan's bid to get an Italian passport.

On Tuesday prosecutors in Perugia said they suspected Suarez, with the help of teachers, of cheating to pass his Italian language test.

Rayudu had missed CSK’s match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) as skipper MS Dhoni, during the toss, said that he is not 100 per cent.

It is now being learned that Rayudu suffered a slight hamstring issue and is now fighting to be fit for CSK’s next match against DC on Friday. Rayudu made a sensational comeback to cricket in IPL 2020 season opener against Mumbai Indians (MI) as he smashed a 48-ball 71 laced with eight boundaries and three sixes but missed the match against RR, which CSK went onto lose by 16 runs.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may be without the services of Ambati Rayudu in their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Delhi Capitals on Friday at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. ALSO READ: IPL 2020: Sunrisers Hyderabad rope in Jason Holder as Mitch Marsh gets ruled out due to ankle injury CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, speaking to WION, said while Rayudu’s hamstring issue isn’t major he might miss one more match, i.e against Delhi Capitals. However, he said the team management will take a final call on Rayudu’s availability tomorrow and he might be fit in time before the next match. “Nothing major. He has a slight issue in his hamstring. Can miss one more match but we will take a final call tomorrow. He might be fit in time for next game,” CSK CEO told WION on Wednesday. TRENDING: Watch: 33 sixes smashed in RR vs CSK match with major record equalised CSK have so far won one match against MI while losing their other game against RR. The Super Kings are already without the likes of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh with the duo pulling out of IPL 2020 due to ‘personal reasons’. Interestingly, CSK will have a one-week break in IPL 2020 as they play their next game on Friday (October 2) against Sunrisers Hyderabad after their encounter against DC on September 25.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman and Australian captain Aaron Finch has sounded a warning for other Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 teams as he said that he is well capable of taking on the bowlers if required while adding his role will not be limited to anchoring the match while opening with young star Devdutt Padikkal.

Finch was seen in a held back role in RCB’s IPL 2020 season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad as he scored 29 runs off 27 deliveries. Whereas Padikkal went all out in his 42-ball 56 laced by eight boundaries.

The Australian skipper on Wednesday said that he can play any role as per the requirements of the team and donned the anchoring role as Padikkal was full of confidence in his strokes against SRH.

"I can play whatever role the team wants. The other day, Dev (Devdutt Padikkal) was taking on the bowlers so it was my job to rotate the strike. But I am capable of taking the charge if and when necessary for RCB. His composure under pressure was amazing, he played his natural game and stuck to his guns, that was amazing to see,” Finch answered to WION’s query during a media interaction on Wednesday.

RCB head coach Simon Katich and newly-recruited director of cricket operations Mike Hesson will be aiming to help the Bengaluru outfit. Speaking of Katich and Hesson, Finch said: "Simon and Mike are calm guys, they think about all the scenarios clearly, they don't bring emotions into their thinking, it is important to do when you are in the coaching setup, everyone has huge amount of respect for them"

There has been plenty of talks about the dew factor kicking in the evening matches with conditions favouring the chasing team. Finch, speaking of the dew factor, said dew makes it easier for batting and tougher for bowling while adding RCB’s spinners have prepared well for the conditions.

"When the dew comes in, the pitches are not that slow, it is about being flexible in every match. Spinners always play a big role in the IPL, they have great records, leading wicket-takers are often the spinners, it is just one of the features in the tournament,” Finch said.

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday announced the signing of Jason Holder with the West Indies Test skipper replacing Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who has been ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to an ankle injury.

Marsh suffered the ankle injury during their IPL 2020 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Dubai International Stadium on Monday. Marsh tweaked his ankle while bowling the fourth delivery of his first over and couldn’t even complete his spell. He was taken off immediately.

However, Marsh showed brilliant professionalism by walking into bat at No. 10 but was unable to help SRH win the match due to the pain in his ankle. He was caught out in the first delivery he faced.

Holder, who had an INR 75 lakh base price in the IPL 2020 auction, had gone unsold. Holder has previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) making a mere five appearances. KKR vs MI, IPL 2020 Preview: Dinesh Karthik's Knights face wounded champions Mumbai Indians

As many as 33 sixes were hit during Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) match on Tuesday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in Sharjah as the encounter equaled the record of most sixes in match in IPL history.

The previous record of 33 sixes hit in a match was held by the game played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in IPL 2020 where sixes were smashed in abundance.

However, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings players had another plan as plenty of sixes were hit in Sharjah as batsmen took advantage of shorter boundaries to entertain the fans with a high-scoring game, the first in IPL 2020.

Rajasthan Royals put a whopping 216 on board after blistering knocks by Sanju Samson (nine sixes) and Steve Smith (four sixes). Jofra Archer played a fiery cameo which included four back-to-back sixes.

For Chennai Super Kings, Faf du Plessis was at his best again as he hammered a 37-ball 72 laced by seven maximums whereas Shane Watson smoked four sixes. Sam Curran and MS Dhoni hit two and three sixes respectively as CSK fell short of 16 runs of the target.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Sharjah by 16 runs as fingers were pointed towards MS Dhoni for coming down to bat at number seven despite his team chasing a mammoth 217-run target in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Dhoni promoted the likes of Sam Curran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kedar Jadhav ahead of him but the moves failed piling pressure on the likes of Faf du Plessis and Dhoni later in the batting order. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has slammed Dhoni for coming to bat so low in the order as he said ‘Thala’ should be leading his troops from the front.

Gambhir further lashed out at Dhoni for reading the game wrong as he said those last three sixes in the last over were of no use for CSK and they were all personal runs.

Here’s what Dhoni said in the post-match presentation: "With 217 on the board, we needed a very good start which was not the case. Steve and Samson batted very well. Need to give credit to their bowlers. Once you've seen the first innings, you know the length to bowl. Their spinners did well to bowl away from the batsman. Our spinners made the error to bowl too full. If we would've maybe restricted them to 200, it would've been a good game. I haven't batted for a long time. 14-day quarantine doesn't help (why he isn't batting higher). Also wanted to try different things, give opportunities to Sam. Have the opportunity to try different things. If it doesn't work, you can always go back to your strengths. Faf adapted very well. Something the batsmen will do, neglect square leg and go more towards long-on and long-off."

World number one Novak Djokovic overcame a sluggish start to lift his fifth Italian Open title on Monday, defeating Argentine Diego Schwartzman 7-5 6-3 for a record 36th ATP Masters crown.

Playing in his maiden ATP 1000 final, eighth seed Schwartzman raced out of the blocks to convert two break point opportunities for a 3-0 lead as Djokovic`s usually clinical backhand offered up some errors.

An on-and-off drizzle at Foro Italico, which included a smattering of fans, added to Djokovic`s frustration but he still found a way past Schwartzman`s serve to draw level at 3-3.

Djokovic`s relentless baseline hitting came to the fore when he broke Schwartzman in the 12th game to take the opening set, despite committing 18 unforced errors.

Schwartzman, who outplayed defending champion Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals, snatched another early break in the second set but Djokovic was quick to respond.

The top seed stepped up the intensity to break Schwartzman`s serve twice before serving out the match comfortably to seal victory -- clinching it with a drop shot.

"It was a great week, a very challenging week," Djokovic, who was playing his first event since being defaulted at the U.S. Open for inadvertently hitting a line judge with a ball, said on court. "I found my best tennis when I needed it most."
"I`m proud that I managed to find the fifth gear when I needed it."

Djokovic`s win moves him clear on the list of Masters 1000 titles, one ahead of rival Nadal, and sets him up perfectly for an assault on next week`s rescheduled French Open.

"Now we turn to Paris and I couldn`t ask for a better tournament here in Rome," the 33-year-old Djokovic, the oldest male winner of the Italian Open title, said.

Heading into Roland Garros, Djokovic has won 31 of his 32 matches this season, and will be among the favourites alongside 12-times winner Nadal and U.S. Open champion Dominic Thiem.
