On Tenerife, one of the Spanish Canary Islands, a forest fire started on Wednesday (August 16). As quoted by news agencies, the officials said that around 250 firefighters are battling the wildfire that is raging "out of control" and has forced road closures and the evacuation of five villages.&nbsp;

In a mountainous area, the fire is largely confined, but firefighters are battling to stop it from spreading to surrounding populated areas.&nbsp;

But concerns have been raised because the fire is spreading. Spain's highest peak, the Mount Teide volcano, is nearby, but entry has been made difficult by the fire's perimeter, which has grown to 22 kilometres across dry woodland covering both flanks of steep ravines.&nbsp;

Local media reported that around 150 people have been evacuated so far from half a dozen villages in the sparsely populated area in the island's northeast, made up mostly of farms and holiday homes.&nbsp;

Media also reported that Tenerife's two airports were operating normally.

Fernando Clavijo, who is the region's leader, told an evening news conference in Tenerife's capital, Santa Cruz: "The fire is out of control... the outlook is not positive."&nbsp;

"Our goal for tonight is defensive so that the fire does not continue its advance. We will carry out operations to protect residents' property," he added.&nbsp;

At least 14 aircraft and a combined 250 firefighters and military personnel were deployed by the authorities.&nbsp;

At least 16 migrants have lost their lives in shipwrecks off the coasts of Tunisia and Western Sahara, said the officials, on Monday (August 7). This comes amid a spike in the number of Europe-bound central Mediterranean migrant crossings from North Africa which is said to be the world’s deadliest, according to the United Nations.&nbsp;

At least 16 dead, dozens missing after migrant shipwrecks off Tunisia and Western Sahara

More than 130 people have been evacuated after a wildfire at Portbou, Spain’s Mediterranean coast near the French border continued to spread, on Saturday (August 5), said a report by AFP citing firefighters. This comes after the locals were evacuated overnight from several villages as a precaution after the fire spread to the south of Portbou.&nbsp;

<h2>About the situation in Portbou</h2>

As of Saturday, the blaze ravaged some 435 hectares of land in the area with an estimated 2,500 hectares under threat, reported AFP, while firefighters from Spain’s northeastern region of Catalonia teamed up with their French colleagues to bring the wildfire under control.&nbsp;

The spread of the wildfire was attributed to strong winds which also prevented water-bombing planes from taking off to help with firefighting operations in the tricky hilly terrain.&nbsp;

Senior firefighter Santi Lleonart said in a Catalan government statement on Friday that the blaze was difficult to extinguish due to the mountainous terrain of the region.&nbsp;

However, the Catalan fire service, as per AFP said that they expect the airborne operations to resume on Saturday afternoon. Portbou, near the France-Spanish border, is also home to a major railway station used by both countries’ networks.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Catalan civil protection officials reported that as many as 4,000 people were without electricity. They have also suspended rail traffic between the Spanish towns of Portbou and Figueres, which is some 30 kilometres south.&nbsp;

The main road into Portbou and to the French border was also closed. According to AFP, some 80 Catalan firefighting units were deployed in the region to fight the wildfire while a dozen fire engines were sent from the French side of the border.

The Catalan regional government website, on Saturday, said that the blaze “remains active” and their priority was to prevent it from reaching the nearby tourist resort of Llanca to the south.

<h2>Evacuations and investigation</h2>

The Catalan fire service also said that they evacuated around 135 local people as a precautionary measure while hundreds of others were stuck in their houses or campsites overnight. Notably, Portbou welcomes thousands of tourists around this time of the year.&nbsp;

The Catalan forest rangers took to X, formerly known as Twitter and said that they had also launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.&nbsp;

According to the data from the European Forest Fire Information System, Spain is experiencing a less destructive summer of wildfires than in 2022, when more than 300,000 hectares were devastated.&nbsp;

Spain coach Jorge Vilda says his "angry" players can shake off the mental scars of a 4-0 mauling from Japan and be a force in the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup.

The sixth-ranked Spanish were left shellshocked by a Japan side who topped Group C with a brilliant counter-attacking display in Wellington on Monday, handing the Europeans their heaviest defeat in 11 years.

Vilda is confident his squad laden with world-class quality will regroup for a last-16 clash with Switzerland in Auckland on Saturday.

"I have no doubt whatsoever that our team is going to react, that the attitude against Switzerland is going to be a different attitude," he said.

"It's the round of 16 at the World Cup and no one should lose hope.

"Mentally, of course, this has done some damage. It hurts, they are angry and I'm convinced that they'll be ready to compete. We will see in five days' time.

"We're not accustomed to this in my time with the team."

Vilda ruefully admired how well Japan coped with his team's trademark possession game, which had been effective in comfortable group wins over Zambia and Costa Rica.

Despite operating with about three-quarters of possession, Spain rarely threatened the goal, while they were repeatedly stung by Japan on the break.

"They got to the ball before we did and they closed every possible space that we had," Vilda said.

"Every time they took the ball away from us they had a counter-attack. They started a counter-attack with very little effort."

A bus carrying 48 tourists, including children, overturned on Monday (July 31) while it was headed to the Lakes of Covadonga in Asturias, northern Spain. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, there were no fatalities and the police said that some people were injured in the crash. A video from the police handout showed the overturned bus and people helping at the scene, while emergency services carried an injured passenger on a stretcher. "A bus that, as you know does the tourist route, has turned over. Possibly 40 people approximately have been affected, mostly children," Asturias regional leader Adrian Barbon said. "The seriousness of the injuries of those injured is being evaluated," Barbon said. "It seems some are in that situation which is not good news further to the accident itself which could have been a real tragedy as you will see from the pictures when you see them," the regional leader added. 10 hospitalised, seven of them with serious injuries: Police In a later update regarding the crash, a police spokesperson said that 10 people in total had been hospitalised, seven of them with serious injuries, though the condition of the remaining passengers was still unknown. Spain&nbsp;underlined their credentials as pre-tournament favourites when they became one of the first teams to seal qualification for the Women's World Cup knockouts with a 5-0 win over Zambia in their second Group C encounter on Wednesday. Teresa Abelleira opened the scoring while Jennifer Hermoso and Alba Redondo scored twice to give&nbsp;Spain&nbsp;their second victory, which also assured Japan of last-16 qualification after they beat Costa Rica 2-0 earlier on Wednesday.

Abelleira settled any opening nerves with the fastest goal of the tournament when she picked up the ball after an intricate passing move in the ninth minute and fired a shot from long range that rocketed into the top corner. Four minutes later, Hermoso marked her 100th appearance for&nbsp;Spain&nbsp;with an easy header at the far post after Zambia failed to defend a cross from Alexia Putellas.

Spain&nbsp;continued to dominate after halftime although Zambia goalkeeper Eunice Sakala made several saves. But she was left stranded when Redondo was put through on goal as the forward rounded the 21-year-old keeper to make it 3-0.

Hermoso then grabbed her second -- and 50th for&nbsp;Spain&nbsp;-- when she pounced on a rebound off the post to fire home, a goal awarded after some confusion over the referee's initial announcement that it was ruled out for offside.

Redondo then beat the offside trap late in the game to score&nbsp;Spain's fifth, also awarded after a VAR review when the assistant referee flagged for offside. Both&nbsp;Spain&nbsp;and Japan have six points and will play each other on Monday for top spot in the group.

Although it was predicted that the opposition conservative People’s Party (PP) is likely to defeat the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) and emerge as the winner in Sunday's elections, early results quickly reflected that the race was going to be much tighter.

Once the total votes were counted, the PP had clinched 136 seats to the PSOE’s 122. The potential coalition partners of conservatives, the far-right Vox party, had clinched 33 seats and PSOE’s allies in the far-left Sumar alliance had 31 seats.

The vote counts showed that the polls have ended with an inconclusive result as the left and right blocs run almost neck and neck in their race to gain a majority of 176 seats as soon as possible.&nbsp;

<h2>Negotiations and horse-trading in weeks ahead</h2>

Till Monday, PP and Vox had secured 169 seats in comparison to the PSOE and Sumar’s 153, which reflects that the country will see weeks of negotiating and horse-trading as options are being explored by rival parties to form a government.&nbsp;

The two blocs will start negotiations to form governments after a new parliament convenes on August 17. PP’s leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo will be invited by King Felipe VI and will be given an opportunity to secure the prime ministership. PP leader Mariano Rajoy had once declined the invitation of the king after a similar situation had arisen in 2015.&nbsp;

If Feijoo declines the invitation, the king will make the same request to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. No deadline for the process has been set by the law but if a majority is not secured by any candidate within two months of the first vote on the prime minister, the country needs to hold new elections.&nbsp;

<h2>Sanchez expresses intent to form government</h2>

Late on Sunday, Sanchez said that the Spanish right's “reactionary” parties had failed at the polls. “We’ve won more votes, more seats and a bigger share of the vote than we did four years ago,” he said while addressing the crowds gathered outside the PSOE’s headquarters in Madrid.

“The retrograde, reactionary block that sought to undo the advances of the past four years has failed," he added.&nbsp;

PP’s leader Feijoo expressed his gratitude to all those who worked for the victory of the party and said that he wished to form a government as soon as possible.

“Our duty now is to stop a period of uncertainty opening up in Spain. As the candidate for the party that won the most votes, I believe my duty is to open up the dialogue as soon as possible and to try to govern our country in accordance with the election results and the election victory," he stated.

Hung parliament in Spain after conservatives fail to secure majority in snap polls

Election results pointed towards a hung Parliament. The popular party secured 136 seats, while left- wing socialist party led by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez won 122. But despite this, celebrations were witnessed among the supporters of the two parties. But while both parties are celebrating - reality is that both parties are far away from the threshold needed to form the government.

Law enforcement agencies from five countries disrupted an intercontinental criminal network involved in smuggling migrants from Cuba to the European Union, said Europol, in a statement, on Monday (July 24). The investigation coordinated by Europol and Interpol also led to the arrest of 62 people, out of which 25 were Cuban nationals.

<h2>About the operation</h2>

The operation was conducted by Germany’s Bundespolizei (Federal Police); Hellenic Police and Coast Guard (Greece); Interior Ministry of North Macedonia; Policía Nacional (Spain); and Serbian Interior Ministry and Criminal Police Directorate, Service for Combating Organized Crime.&nbsp;

The investigation began back in October 2021 when the Serbian, Greek, North Macedonian and Finnish authorities reported a rise in the number of Cuban citizens trying to enter Europe with “falsified documentation”. In January 2023, multiple European agencies, including Europol, issued a joint intelligence notification on the trend.&nbsp;

The investigation revealed a “complex criminal infrastructure” which was set up in Spain, Greece and Serbia. The operation also led to the seizure of 18 pieces of real estate, 33 vehicles and 144 bank accounts, alongside vast sums of cash in various currencies, said Europol.&nbsp;

Law enforcement agencies believe that the criminal network has successfully smuggled around 5,000 Cuban nationals into the EU and generated a profit of $49 million (45 million euros).&nbsp;

<h2>Modus operandi of smugglers</h2>

According to the European intelligence agency, the alleged smugglers used a “well-known messaging application”, which was not named, to advertise their “illicit services” to Cubans in vulnerable situations. The members of the migrant smuggling network would charge $9,969 (9,000 euros) and organise the trip, and transfers, and provide false documentation, said Europol.&nbsp;

The European agencies in their notification, issued earlier this year, also noted the effect of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the criminal network’s operations.&nbsp;

Previously, Cuban nationals would fly to Russia on commercial flights and from there they could either cross the Finnish-Russian border to enter the EU or fly to Serbia and travel through central or southern Europe.&nbsp;

However, since the conflict began back in February 2022, Cuban nationals have been flown to Serbia via Germany and upon their arrival in Belgrade the smugglers would facilitate their “irregular entry” into North Macedonia and Greece by land.

Once the migrants reached Greece they would either apply for asylum or travel to other EU countries organised by the criminal network, like flights to Spain or sea transport to Italy. They would also provide forged documents to travel within the EU.

<h2>Risks of the journey</h2>

According to the European intelligence agency, during land journeys smugglers would direct large groups of migrants and make them walk in the dark without supplies for hours.&nbsp;

“In addition to these arduous conditions, the criminals would take advantage of the most vulnerable migrants, including minors, and subject them to scams, robberies, and extortion,” said Europol, in a statement. &nbsp;

It added, “In some cases, women were transferred to other criminal groups for sexual exploitation.”

Morning brief: Hung parliament in Spain, ferry with 40 sinks in Indonesia, and more

Voters in Spain will head to the polls on Sunday to choose their next government. President Pedro Sanchez called the snap election after his coalition suffered losses in May's regional and local elections. Journalist Al Goodman is in Madrid with a closer look.

Spain elections: Spaniards vote in snap polls following campaign centered on women`s rights

Spaniards across Spain began to cast their votes in snap polls on Sunday, July 23 including Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez at a polling station in Madrid.&nbsp;&nbsp;The polls are expected to be a&nbsp;close-run affair in a political discourse marked by ideological differences and chances of Spain's first right-wing government since military general Francisco Franco’s dictatorship ended in 1975.

"I ask for the greatest mobilization so that the government that comes out of the polls is strong and Spain can advance four more years," Prime Minister Sanchez wrote in a tweet after casting his vote.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) is up against Alberto Nunez Feijoo's People’s Party (PP), described as right-wing by observers.

The voting has started amid a sweltering heatwave. The country's postal service reported on Friday that postal votes had passed a record 2.4 million.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has been Spain's Prime Minister&nbsp;since 2018. The tumbling of his support in recent years has been marked by the economic downturn in the country during and immediately after the Covid pandemic. The worsening of Madrid's balance sheet under Prime Minister Sanchez was aggravated by the war in Ukraine.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sanchez’s Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol (PSOE)&nbsp;party is currently in a coalition with far-left Unidas Podemos.&nbsp;Sanchez called the election early after his coalition&nbsp;suffered a serious defeat in local elections in May.&nbsp;

The final result is expected to be decided by fewer than a million votes and less than 10 seats in the 350-seat parliament, according to experts.

<h2>Spain's progressive laws in the spotlight</h2>

Prime Minister Sanchez's government has been marked with progressive laws on abortion and transgender rights.&nbsp;

Under his rule, Spain has passed progressive laws on euthanasia, transgender rights, abortion and animal rights. Prime Minister Sanchez's legislative agenda related to women's rights has faced the opposition's ire. Sanchez has warned that such rights could be stripped back if the Vox party becomes part of the next government, a fear described as unfounded by his critics.

According to&nbsp;opinion polls, Sanchez's chances of winning another term are thin.

"Nothing is set in stone. Of course, the Socialists are going to fight back and get a better result. We are in a position to become the largest party in parliament," Prime Minister said ahead of polling.&nbsp;

<h2>Spain elections: PP-Vox party alliance's agenda</h2>

Vox party's&nbsp;Santiago Abascal is running on the agenda of reversing Sanchez's policies on gender parity, queer rights, and a reduction in regional governmental power in a country where a separatist movement in Catalonia region has simmered every now and then.&nbsp;

Spain faces stark left-right divide in hot summer vote

Pop star Shakira is facing more trouble from Spain’s tax office after a court near Barcelona said Thursday that it had agreed to open an investigation into a second case of alleged tax fraud by the Colombian singer.

Shakira is already set to face trial at a date to be determined for allegedly failing to pay 14.5 million euros ($13.9 million) in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014. The entertainer has denied any wrongdoing.

Now, a Spanish judge has agreed with state prosecutors to probe two possible cases of tax fraud by Shakira from 2018. The court said it had no information on how much money was in question.

Both cases are being handled by a court in the town of Esplugues de Llobregat, near Barcelona.

The first case that is set to go to trial hinges on where Shakira lived during 2012-14. Prosecutors in Barcelona have alleged the Grammy winner spent more than half of that period in Spain and should have paid taxes in the country, even though her official residence was in the Bahamas.

Shakira’s public relations firm, Llorente y Cuenca, said in a statement in Spanish that the artist had “always acted in concordance with the law and on the advice of her financial advisers.”

The firm said that Shakira, who now lives in Miami, has yet to receive notification of the second probe.

“(Shakira) is now focused on her artistic career in Miami and is calm and confident that she will receive a favorable resolution of her fiscal issues,” the firm said.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, has been linked to Spain since she started dating the now-retired soccer player Gerard Pique. The couple, who have two children, lived together in Barcelona until last year, when they ended their 11-year relationship.

Spain has cracked down on soccer stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the past decade for not paying their full due in taxes. They were found guilty of evasion but both avoided prison time thanks to a provision that allows a judge to waive sentences under two years in length for first-time offenders.

Pop star Shakira will face a second tax probe in Spain

Venezuela's former intelligence chief General Hugo Armando Carvajal was on Wednesday (July 19) extradited from Spain to the United States on drug trafficking charges.

Venezuela's former intelligence chief General Hugo Armando Carvajal was on Wednesday (July 19) extradited from Spain to the United States on drug trafficking charges. Speaking to the news agency AFP, General Carvajal's lawyer Maria Dolores de Arguelles confirmed that the former intelligence chief left Spain bound for the US. He is expected to make a court appearance on Thursday. Carvajal, 63, had served as the intelligence chief under former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Carvajal has been long sought by US Treasury officials who suspect him of providing support to drug trafficking by the FARC guerrilla group in Colombia. The allegations The report said prosecutors in New York alleged that he used his office to coordinate the smuggling of approximately 5,600kg of cocaine from Venezuela to Mexico in 2006 that was destined for the US. The extradition comes after the European Court of Human Rights last week rejected Carvajal's appeal, the AFP report on Wednesday said. The court argued it was not proven that the former intelligence chief aces a real risk of being sentenced to life imprisonment without chance of parole in the US. This prompted Spain's National Court, which has been charged with extradition, to order Interpol to immediately deliver Carvajal to American authorities. Nicknamed 'El Pollo', Carvajal was stripped of his rank by President Nicolas Maduro's government after coming out in support of opposition leader Juan Guaido as the acting president in February 2019. He then left Venezuela and was arrested in Spain two months later, but a court ordered his release arguing the US extradition request was politically motivated. This decision was later reversed and Carvajal then went on the run. The 63-year-old was again arrested in Madrid in 2021. The police said he remained in Spain the whole time, changing residences frequently and getting plastic surgery done to avoid being caught. He has repeatedly denied links to drug traffickers or the FARC. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. While meteorologists are comparing the current heat wave in Europe to the three-headed Hound of Hell from Greek mythology, wildfires on Spain's La Palma Island are raging out of control and forcing thousands of people to evacuate. At least 4,000 people have been forced to leave their homes as a result.

Spain: Wildfires in Canary Islands, over 10,00 acres of land affected

More than 4,000 people were evacuated from their homes as the Spanish island of La Palma witnesses “out of control” wildfires,&nbsp;said the local officials. Meanwhile, the rest of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/millions-battle-record-heatwaves-as-temperatures-dangerously-soar-in-us-europe-616127">Europe</a>, including Spain, swelters amid record-breaking temperatures.&nbsp;

<h2>What is happening on the Spanish islands?</h2>

The wildfire in La Palma began early Saturday in El Pinar de Puntagorda, a wooded area in the north of the island in the Canaries, reported Reuters. This also prompted the regional government to put neighbouring islands, including Tenerife and Gran Granaria, on official alert due to&nbsp;the risk of forest fires.&nbsp;

The wildfire has also forced evacuations from the villages of Puntagorda and neighbouring Tijarafe, as per local authorities. So far, the blaze has affected an area of about 4,500 hectares.&nbsp;

Fernando Clavijo, president of the Canary Islands, said at least 13 houses have been destroyed since Saturday as the fire has advanced. “The fire advanced very quickly,” said Clavijo, adding that the “fire is out of control”.&nbsp;

He also went on to attribute this rapid advancement of the blaze to “the wind, the climate conditions as well as the heatwave that we are living through.”&nbsp;

“There has been some resistance by local people to leaving their homes, but I appeal to people to be responsible,” Clavijo told reporters.&nbsp;

Local officials have also reported the forced evacuation of 50 people from Tenerife, one of the eight Canary Islands since the wildfire broke out on Saturday and destroyed about 60 hectares of land in the region. &nbsp;

Puntagorda mayor Vicente Rodríguez told Spanish media that the fire started within his municipality, adding that the region in recent years has witnessed below-average rainfall.&nbsp;

<h2>Response to the wildfires</h2>

As of Sunday, ten aerial units and 300 firefighters were deployed to bring the wildfire under control on the island, reported Reuters. Meanwhile, King Felipe VI of Spain, also called Clavijo and expressed his support for the people of the Spanish archipelago off Africa’s western coast.&nbsp;

<h2>Wildfire coincides with European heatwave</h2>

The wildfire also began days after the temperature of the ground&nbsp;in some parts&nbsp;of Spain crossed over&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/europe-heatwave-spain-swelters-with-land-temperatures-crossing-60deg-celsius-615490">60 degree&nbsp;Celsius</a> during the deadly heatwave that has been sweeping across parts of Europe, the United States, and China.&nbsp;

Weather forecasters in Spain have also warned about the risks of more wildfires and no respite from high temperatures any time soon, as night temperatures are unlikely to fall below 25 degree&nbsp;Celsius. Additionally, temperatures in southern Spain are expected to be as high as 44 degree Celsius as the heatwave is predicted to intensify from Monday.&nbsp;

Spain: Thousands evacuated from La Palma island following ‘out of control’ wildfires

Spain's&nbsp;opposition&nbsp;conservative&nbsp;People's Party (PP) is ahead of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's ruling Socialists (PSOE) but still short of winning a decisive majority in this month's general election, according to two tracking opinion polls published on Saturday.

To secure an absolute majority of the 350 lower house of parliament seats needed to form a government after the July 23 election, the PP would almost certainly have to ally with the far-right Vox party, opinion polls have shown.

A tracking poll by GAD3 for ABC, a right-wing newspaper, showed the PP could win 37.2 per cent&nbsp;of the vote, or 152 seats, compared to the PSOE, with 28.5 per cent&nbsp;of the vote and 115 seats.

The PP would win more votes than the PSOE and the far-left Sumar party together, the poll found. Sumar would win 25 seats or 11.4 per cent&nbsp;of the vote while Vox would claim 11.7 per cent&nbsp;of the vote or 29 seats.&nbsp;

This would put the PP and Vox combined with just over the 176 seats needed for absolute majority, according to the poll in which 6,501 people were interviewed by telephone from June 29-July 14. The poll had a margin of error of 1.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, the PP's share of the vote fell slightly according to a tracker poll by 40dB for El Pais, a centre-left newspaper.&nbsp;

The PP would win 32 per cent&nbsp;of the vote or 133 seats, one seat down from a previous poll published on Friday, while the PSOE would win 28.3 per cent&nbsp;of the vote, or 109 seats, showing no change on earlier polls.&nbsp;

Vox's share of the vote would stay the same at 14.6 per cent&nbsp;or 39 seats, while Sumar would win 13.8&nbsp;per cent&nbsp;of the vote or 38 seats, five more seats than a poll published on Friday&nbsp;

The poll for El Pais involved telephone interviews with 2,000 people between 10-14 July, with a margin of error of 2.2&nbsp;per cent.&nbsp;

The election had been due by December but Sanchez called a snap election after the left fared badly in regional elections in May, apparently hoping to wrongfoot the PP and force it to campaign while also while also negotiating uncomfortable post-local ballot coalition deals with Vox.

Six men were injured Friday during the eighth and final bull run of Spain's famed San Fermin festival, bringing to 35 the total number of daredevils wounded during this year's fiesta.

Five men between the ages of 29 and 61 were taken to hospital to treat bruises of varying degrees of severity, the regional government of Navarre said in a statement.

A sixth man was treated in the infirmary of the northern city of Pamplona's bullring for bruises he suffered during the run, the local branch of the Red Cross said in a tweet.

The bulls from the Miura ranch in the southwestern province of Seville completed the 848.6-metre (928-yard) course from a holding pen to the city bull ring in two minutes and 21 seconds.

Each morning from July 7-14, hundreds of daredevils, many wearing traditional white shirts with red scarves tied around their necks, tested their bravery by running ahead of a pack of bulls through the course set up in the narrow, winding streets of the medieval city.&nbsp;
