<p>These MoUs were signed at the Skyroot facility in Hyderabad, as part of the visit of a French business delegation. As a result of these pacts, the French firms would be able to use the pay-and-launch services offered by Skyroot's Vikram series of rockets. <p>The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has taken a historic step by imposing its first-ever&nbsp;fine on a company for breaching its anti-space debris regulation. The commission announced on Monday (Oct 1) that Dish Network has been ordered to pay $150,000 for its failure to properly de-orbit its EchoStar-7 satellite, which has remained in space for over two decades.</p>

<p>In July, Cheng announced that experimental satellites had already been launched and successfully interconnected in space. The project's initial phase is aimed to deploy nearly 1,300 satellites into orbit.</p>

<p>On Monday, Canada’s Telesat said that it had reached a deal with SpaceX to begin launching its low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites in 2026, with the intention of offering international internet access from space by the end of 2027.</p>

<p>Since LEO satellites orbit 36 times closer to Earth than conventional ones, information is transmitted and received more quickly, improving broadband coverage even in remote locations.</p>

<p>The LEO constellation launched by Telesat is named Lightspeed.</p>

<p>“It is another big step forward on our path to get Lightspeed up there,” Reuters quoted Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg as saying.</p>

<p>The deal, which covers 14 launches, was not valued. According to the firm, the constellation will be deployed by the end of 2027, when Telesat intends to offer a global service. Each Falcon 9 rocket will be able to launch up to 18 satellites into orbit. This comes three years after the original deadline.</p>

<p>Telesat’s stock declined 5.3 per cent to Canadian $21.99 ($16.20), following an early trade gain of about 3.2 per cent.</p>

<p>Last month, Telesat said that by hiring Canada’s MDA Ltd to construct 198 satellites, it would save $2 billion. Thales Alenia Space received the contract in 2021.</p>

<p>Thales informed Telesat roughly two years ago that it could no longer match with the agreed price and timetable due to “COVID hit, and supply chain issues hit, and inflation hit,” Reuters cited Goldberg.</p>

<p>The 14 launches will be carried out by SpaceX, which “gives us scope to expand the constellation above and beyond the 198 (satellites) that we've committed to with MDA,” Goldberg told Reuters.</p>

<p>With the goal of serving corporate customers, such as mobile operators, governments, aircraft and shipping corporations, Telesat is entering the competitive new world of LEO networks.</p>

<p>The majority of the LEO competition, which also includes Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin and its Project Kuiper and SpaceX’s Starlink network, is geared at the consumer market.</p>

Last month, North Korea unsuccessfully attempted to launch a military satellite. The satellite crashed into the water near the west coast island of Eocheongdo. The South Korean military is carrying out its own search for the wreckage of the North Korean satellite.</p>

<p>"It is expected that the missile reported earlier will not come to Japan. The call for evacuation is lifted," it said.</p>

<p>In 2012 and 2016, Pyongyang tested ballistic missiles that it called satellite launches. Both flew over Japan's southern Okinawa region.</p>

<p>Qimingxing 1, a small Earth observation satellite, was controlled by the AI for 24 hours, and it functioned without any human order, assignment or intervention, a paper published in the journal Geomatics and Information Science of Wuhan University stated.</p>

<p>Notably, the AI spotted a few places on Earth and ordered the satellite to “take a closer look”.</p>

<p>One of the targeted areas was the&nbsp;Patna city in India&nbsp;housing the Bihar Regiment – the Indian Army unit that clashed with Chinese forces in the Galwan Valley in 2020.</p>

<p>The other targeted area was Osaka, one of Japan’s busiest ports, which occasionally hosts US Navy vessels operating in the Pacific.</p>

<p>The scientists, however, did not explain why the AI machine made the satellite to specifically look for these two locations.</p>

<p>Though AI has been prominently used in space programmes, such as image recognition, drawing flight paths and collision avoidance, this is the first that it was given control of a satellite, resulting in a waste of time and resources, the team noted.</p>

<p>“The satellites are expensive with a limited lifespan. It is urgent to make the most out of their value with new orbital applications,” the researchers said.</p>
