A satellite named Salsa is set to re-enter Earth's atmosphere on September 8. It has been carefully brought down by the operators from 81,250 miles (130,000 km) to return to Earth and burn up over a region of the South Pacific.&nbsp;

Guided re-entries ensure that no debris remains in orbit, nor does it fall over unexpected and populated areas. This is the second satellite to be brought down using a planned and manoeuvred "guided re-entry" after&nbsp;Aeolus.

Salsa has been in orbit since 2000 and is part of a four-piece group called Cluster. The other three satellites are named - &nbsp;Rumba, Tango and Samba. The identical satellites were entrusted with the work of monitoring Earth's magnetic field for two years. However, the satellites are still going strong and sending back data.&nbsp;

By bringing the satellite safely back to Earth, the European Space Agency (ESA) plans to understand more about creating satellites that do not add to space debris.&nbsp;

The company said that it alerted satellite operators last month after detecting a “sudden close approach” by Russia’s Luch-2 to a satellite positioned in geostationary orbit.&nbsp;

The incident occurred on April 12, and Aldoria said the Russian satellite is “known for its unusual manoeuvres” and it was predicted by them before the Luch-2 even made the move.

The French start-up did not disclose if the Russian satellite might have been spying or how close it was to the object.&nbsp;

However, Aldoria told Space.com, that the minimum distance between the two objects was 10 kilometres, but as of Monday (Jun 3) about 20 to 50 kilometres apart.&nbsp;

The company, in a statement last month, said that the “stakes are high” and protecting public and private assets in orbit which “service fundamental economies is a necessity.”&nbsp;

“As #satelliteconstellations proliferate, so does the risk of collisions, amplifying the demand for #SpaceSituationalAwareness (#SSA) services,” it added.&nbsp;

Notably, the clip came around the time when the United States intelligence and the Pentagon had accused Russia of trying to militarise space by deploying a different military inspector satellite into the same orbit as a US government satellite.&nbsp;

During a United Nations Security Council meeting, on May 20, US Ambassador Robert Wood speaking about the Russian military satellite, Cosmos 2576 said that it was “likely a counterspace weapon presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit.”&nbsp;

However, at the time Russia dismissed the claims calling it fake news. In recent months, Washington and Moscow have repeatedly accused each other of attempting to militarise space.&nbsp;&nbsp;

ISRO's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) was used for the launch that took place at 5:35 pm (IST) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre's Sriharikota range in southern India. INSAT-3DS has now been successfully placed in the intended orbit.&nbsp;

The GSLV-F14, powered by its S-139 solid-fuel motor and four L-40 liquid-fuel boosters, lifted-off from the launchpad, completing its mission in around 19 minutes when it placed the satellite in a highly-elliptical (egg-shaped) orbit around Earth.

INSAT-3DS satellite, built by ISRO with contributions from Indian industry, weighs 2274 kg. It has been funded by the Indian Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).&nbsp;The satellite will be working along with its predecessors INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR to augment meteorological services.&nbsp;

INSAT-3DS has been injected in a precise orbit and compared to the previous mission the payload carrying capacity of this rocket has been increased by 50 kg, he added.&nbsp;

"The confidence on GSLV is further high. The next mission is the NASA-ISRO joint mission NISAR. This gives us greater confidence," said Chairman ISRO, Dr S Somanath.

NISAR is the first satellite jointly built by ISRO and NASA.

Various departments of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) such as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and various other agencies and institutes will be using the INSAT-3DS Satellite data to provide improved weather forecasts and meteorological services.

In addition to its weather-related functionality, the satellite also carries a Satellite Aided Search &amp; Rescue transponder (SAS&amp;R). For example, fishermen who have a device that can communicate with this transponder can send distress messages to the satellite and the satellite would broadcast it to the relevant agencies, who can then mobilise to provide succour. Given that the satellite is finally placed 36,000 km&nbsp;above the earth's equator, it can view approximately 1/3rd the earth's surface and offers its coverage across a large area, when compared to satellites in lower orbits.&nbsp;

ISRO's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) was used for the launch that took place at 5:35 pm (IST) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre's Sriharikota range in southern India. INSAT-3DS has now been successfully placed in the intended orbit. The GSLV-F14, powered by its S-139 solid-fuel motor and four L-40 liquid-fuel boosters, lifted-off from the launchpad, completing its mission in around 19 minutes when it placed the satellite in a highly-elliptical (egg-shaped) orbit around Earth. INSAT-3DS satellite, built by ISRO with contributions from Indian industry, weighs 2274 kg. It has been funded by the Indian Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). The satellite will be working along with its predecessors INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR to augment meteorological services. Various departments of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) such as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and various other agencies and institutes will be using the INSAT-3DS Satellite data to provide improved weather forecasts and meteorological services. In addition to its weather-related functionality, the satellite also carries a Satellite Aided Search & Rescue transponder (SAS&R). For example, fishermen who have a device that can communicate with this transponder can send distress messages to the satellite and the satellite would broadcast it to the relevant agencies, who can then mobilise to provide succour. Given that the satellite is finally placed 36,000 km above the earth's equator, it can view approximately 1/3rd the earth's surface and offers its coverage across a large area, when compared to satellites in lower orbits.

However, it incinerates quickly into fine ash upon reentry into Earth's atmosphere, thereby minimising damage to the environment. After successfully testing their wood samples aboard the International Space Station (ISS) earlier this year, the scientists believe the test satellite is fit for launch. It is expected that the LignoSat probe which is approximately the size of a coffee mug, will operate in space for at least six months before it is allowed to enter the upper atmosphere. INSAT-3DS will join the array of Indian satellites already in orbit around the Earth and will boost India's capability for enhanced meteorological observations. However, now multiple satellite images have revealed that new boreholes have been drilled by the Chinese military – which is good for storing firestorms of deadly radiation that gets released from large nuclear blasts. The military has also made hundreds of expansions and upgrades.&nbsp;

<h2>New roads, recent excavation and construction seen in images</h2>

The Lop Nur nuclear test area's main support base, which is sometimes called Malan, is a large complex of buildings and technical sites that’s more than two square miles. More than 30 buildings have been added or renovated here since 2017. 
 
A road runs southwest for about 75 miles to an old testing area. Satellite images have revealed dozens of miles of freshly graded new dirt roads in the eastern area of Lop Nur. 
 
Horizontal tunnels bored into the side of the mountains were used for past nuclear weapons testing. Satellite images suggest recent excavation and construction in at least one of the tunnels. 
 
In the satellite images, several new roads were seen recently added to the existing road network of the base, which extended nearly 30 miles to a new area located in the eastern hills.

The secret space plane of China is likely to be sending signals to maybe a ship or a hidden ground station near the west coast of North America, said amateur astronomer Scott Tilley, who has kept track of the craft since it entered the orbit of Earth last week. 
 
The astronomer claimed that strong emissions, which were at the frequency of 2280 megahertz, were detected at a time when the uncrewed reusable plane flew over British Columbia in Canada, as reported by the South China Morning Post. 
 
“I’m seeing a pattern in its radio emissions while over me and it appears to favour low-elevation western passes,” said Tilley, who has earlier worked with NASA in finding its long-lost IMAGE satellite in 2018. 
 
“This could indicate a clandestine ground station on the west coast of North America or on a ship off the coast,” he added while clarifying that he was speculating.

He added that probably there was a pair of satellites (objects D and E) which were released by the plane and emitted radio signals which were similar to object A, “but without any form of data, just idle filler”.
