He was booed several times during Sunday's match, though there was also applause from other members of the crowd.

Among the spectators, Melissa Gautier, a 23-year-old health worker, said she thought van de Velde should not be there.

"Being an athlete shouldn't give you a free pass," she said.

Andrea Syslos, a 47-year-old lawyer from Italy, did not know about the case, but when told about it said: "It's not a good thing. Sporting justice should be harsher than civil justice."

"Maybe he shouldn't still be in prison but it's not normal that he is playing in the Olympics where he should be an example for other people," he said.

But van de Velde's teammate Matthew Immers brushed away the criticism over the now 29-year-old taking part in the Olympics.

"What's in the past is in the past. He had his punishment and now he is really kind. For me it is an example that (he) grew and learnt a lot from it," Immers told reporters.

"I'm enjoying playing with him," he said.

John van Vliet, a press officer for the Netherlands team, said: "It's something that shouldn't be brought up through sports in a tournament that he qualified for.

"The general matter of sex convictions or sex-related crime is a much bigger issue than sport but in his case we have a person who has been convicted, who did his sentence and did everything afterwards that he can do to compete again."

Amongst the crowd watching the match, some agreed.

"I read about this and I think everyone deserves a second chance. He's (legally) allowed to be here and so he can be here," 46-year-old German architect Alexandra Bertram said.

Van de Velde and Immers lost 22-20 19-21 15-13 to Italy's Alex Ranghieri and Adrian Ignacio Carambula Raurich in their men's Pool B match.

The International Olympic Committee said on Saturday it was satisfied with explanations given by the Netherlands Olympic team regarding the participation of van de Velde.

IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said the committee was not totally comfortable with the situation but that "a crime occurred 10 years ago, a great deal of rehabilitation has taken place and strong safeguarding is in place."

The Netherlands team took&nbsp;steps to mitigate the impact of van de Velde's participation by moving him to alternative accommodation in Paris and not the athletes' village and asking him not to speak to the media.

Alienor Laurent, co-president of French feminist collective "Osez le feminisme!" (Dare to be Feminist), mobilised against van de Velde's participation, was outraged that he was allowed to compete in the Olympics.

"What is the message to victims? That sporting talent has more value than their dignity," she told Reuters last week. "And what is the message to aggressors? Assaulting (a young girl) will have no impact on your life or your career, you will be celebrated and may have medals."

Two French international rugby players were formally charged Friday with the aggravated rape of an Argentine woman after a night out following a match, according to a prosecution statement.

The accused, Hugo Auradou, 20, and Oscar Jegou, 21, chose "not to testify" at a hearing in the city of Mendoza, where the rape is alleged to have occurred after a game between France and Argentina on Saturday.

The men deny the accusation, saying they had consensual sexual relations with the woman.&nbsp;

The players were transferred Thursday by car from Interpol's Buenos Aires headquarters to Mendoza, some 1,000 kilometres west (620 miles).

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old woman's lawyer, Natacha Romano, said her client was hospitalized Thursday after feeling ill emotionally and physically "because of everything that happened."

Psychologist Nicolas Yungman, who was not treating the woman, told local media that her symptoms, as described, could be indicative of post-traumatic stress disorder.

The woman will receive treatment at a health facility for 24 to 48 hours, Romano said.

She allegedly tried to escape several times.

Romano told AFP the woman had gone with one of the men from a nightclub to a hotel room, where she alleges she was held against her will and abused for several hours.

"The violence was fierce," said Romano. "There is more than one crime to investigate."

Lawyer Rafael Cuneo Libarona, who represents the players, arrived in Mendoza on Wednesday and said "sexual relations" had been "consensual."

"There are witnesses who saw her leave (the hotel). There are cameras that saw her leave. Apparently no injuries are seen in the footage," Libarona -- who is the brother of Justice Minister Mariano Cuneo Libarona -- told journalists.

Romano told AFP "the overwhelming proof that there was no consent is the victim's body" and the wounds she bears.

French Rugby Federation (FFR) president Florian Grill, who is in Argentina, told AFP the players have "a quite different version" of events to that of the woman, with "a lot of inconsistencies."

An American mann accused of sexually assaulting a Pennsylvania college student in 2013 and later sending her a Facebook message that said "So I raped you" has been arrested in France after a three-year search.

Cleary was the subject of&nbsp;an international search since authorities in the US state of Pennsylvania issued a 2021 warrant, weeks after the US media reported on the purported reluctance of local prosecutors to pursue sex crimes committed in the university campuses.&nbsp;

Cleary was detained on the street in Metz on April 24 as part of a police check.&nbsp;

Cleary claimed he "arrived in France two or three years ago" from Albania and had only recently come to Metz, but did not have housing there.

Devikulam Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) Judge Sirajuddin P A handed down varying sentences to the man, who was a friend of the victim's mother, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for a total of 106 years, Special Public Prosecutor Smiju K Das said.

However, as the sentences will be served concurrently and the highest of the jail terms given to the man is 22 years, he will be serving 22 years in prison.

The court also imposed a fine of&nbsp;₹&nbsp;60,000 on the man. If the convict does not pay the fine amount, he will have to undergo an additional 22 months of rigorous imprisonment.

The court ordered that if the accused pays the fine, the amount should be paid to the girl as compensation from the victim compensation scheme of the Idukki District Legal Services Authority.

The incident took place in 2022 when the accused, a native of Thrissur, had come to Adimali for work. He had been working together with the girl's mother in a hotel and, after becoming friendly with her, he stayed with them in their house.

Then, when the girl's mother and siblings were not at home, the accused began sexually exploiting the girl. He had also threatened the girl, saying that he would kill her if she disclosed the incidents to them.

The incidents came to light when the mother brought the girl to Adimali Taluk Hospital due to physical difficulties, and the doctor found out that the girl was pregnant. The doctor reported the incident to the police.

The pregnancy of the girl was aborted at Idukki Medical College Hospital.

Subsequently, DNA tests were conducted on the medical samples of the aborted foetus of the girl and the accused, revealing that the father of the unborn child of the girl was the accused.&nbsp;

The girl’s mother, last week on April 21, filed a complaint with Dhaurahra police in which she accused Aman of taking her daughter away. She also accused him of holding her daughter captive at his home and said he raped and assaulted her, according to the police.&nbsp;

The case was initially registered under sections 343 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), said Deputy Superintendent PP Singh, according to news agency PTI.&nbsp;

Since the girl returned home, Section 376 (rape) and the POCSO Act were added to the FIR, Singh said. The accused was arrested on Saturday (Apr 27), said the police, adding that the case is under investigation.&nbsp;

Speaking about the accused, the police said that the 21-year-old was a school dropout and worked at a salon in the city of Hyderabad. “He wanted to marry the girl and when she refused, he wrote his name on both her cheeks,” said Station House Officer Dinesh Singh.&nbsp;

The police said that since the girl was not carrying any ID, it was difficult to confirm if she was a minor but after they did, IPC Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon) and 376 (rape) along with POCSO Act was also added to the FIR.&nbsp;

The 17-year-old girl’s parents alleged that the police initially registered the case under “lesser” sections and that only after the survivor’s statement was recorded before a magistrate, section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), section 376 (rape) and the POCSO Act were added to the FIR.

Julie Morris was locked up in December 2021 after admitting to 18 sex offences unrelated to her job as the 'safeguarding lead' at St George’s Central Primary School in Tyldesley, near Wigan.

Judge Andrew Menary, while sentencing the pair, had expressed shock, stating: "Every now and again you see cases, the circumstances of which are almost beyond belief."

"This is one of those cases. It demonstrates that human depravity really knows no depths."

Following this, her case was transferred to the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), which deals with cases of misconduct.

A three-person panel of the TRA concluded that the former teacher's actions were "fundamentally incompatible with her being a teacher."

"Her conduct ran counter to what should be at the very core of the practice of a teacher with a duty of care towards children," stated a report detailing the panel's findings.

It added that the fact she was also the safeguarding lead at the school "makes her offending all the more shocking in that, whilst the designated point of contact for welfare and safety concerns at the School, she herself was engaged in abusing a child, albeit not one at the school."

The panel also found that Morris' offences were "deliberate and sustained" and were not committed "under duress".

Concluding that there was a "real risk" of Morris repeating her offences, they banned her from teaching indefinitely on February 27.

This, as per the report, means that the now 46-year-old is barred from teaching in schools, sixth-form colleges, youth accommodations or children’s homes.

The couple's 'sordid secret' came to light when police found a conversation about the sexual abuse of children on David's phone. The phone, which was seized during a search warrant, also had video recordings of rape and sexual abuse.

Building on the act, the measure seeks to clarify that in law, there is no such thing as the "rough sex defence".&nbsp;

Reacting to the upcoming legislation Fiona Mackenzie, Founder of We Can't Consent to This campaign said: "This is an important step in ensuring that men who kill women in sexually motivated violence do not get away with a lighter sentence. "

"This change should ensure that any future perpetrators of violence of this sort are properly punished, and send a clear message that this violence against women is unacceptable in our society," she added.

Randriamanantenasoa said, "We wanted to protect children much more. The younger the child, the greater the punishment."&nbsp;

A harrowing development in a moral policing case in Haveri city has sent shockwaves across the Indian state of Karnataka. A young Muslim woman from the state has come forward with allegations of gang rape against seven men who attacked her and her interfaith partner when the assailants forcibly entered a hotel room.&nbsp;

The victim, involved in an interfaith relationship, revealed the horrifying details during her testimony before a judicial magistrate, which turned the case initially perceived as moral policing&nbsp;into a graver one.&nbsp;

The distressing incident unfolded just four days ago on January 8 in Hangal town and three suspects, identified as Aftab Maqbul Ahmed Chandanakatti, Madarasab Mohammad Isak Mandakki, and Abdul Khader Jafersab Hanchinamani, have been apprehended by the police.

At the time of the incident, the woman was accompanied by her male partner. After the seven men thrashed the Muslim woman and a Hindu man, they allegedly took the woman to a wooded area near Nalkuru Cross of Hangal.

There, the seven men allegedly subjected her to sexual assault. All of them are now facing rape charges. A video of the gruesome incident is now going viral on social media where the men can be seen thrashing the interfaith couple.&nbsp;

The party at the centre, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Congress of not taking any action because of the religion of the accused men.&nbsp;

"This is the level of law and order in Karnataka. But the voluble and loud Priyanka Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Congress ecosystem, and spokespersons, all of them are maintaining pin drop silence. Why is it because Karnataka is Congress-ruled or because of the religion of the accused, based on which they will selectively express outreach and selectively remain silent?" Relatives of the first toddler revealed that Fernandez offered to babysit during an unexpected work situation. This was the only time the child was alone with Fernandez, media reports said citing court documents.&nbsp;

Records indicate that the incidents involving the first toddler occurred on May 6 in a Galleria bathroom.&nbsp;

"The police described it as such," she said.

Under Spain's sexual consent law passed last year, the charge of sexual assault takes in a wide array of crimes, from online abuse and groping to rape, each with different possible punishments.

A rape conviction can carry a maximum sentence of 15 years.

Contacted by AFP, police and prosecutors said they were not able to confirm if Baza had filed a criminal complaint against the actor.

The incident happened in Chakapad police station area on November 3, but the man and his friends were arrested on Saturday after police cracked the case, they said.

The 25-year-old woman came to know that his brother was having an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law. She asked him to end it and threatened that otherwise she would inform others about it.

To stop her, he hatched a plan, police said.

On the day of the incident, the woman went to a nearby forest to collect Siali leaves. Her elder brother was also there with his cows.&nbsp;

He called his four friends to the forest, got them drunk and under the influence of alcohol, they took turns in raping her, police said.

As the woman fought back, they strangulated her, and then attacked her with an axe, killing her on the spot, said Lalit Mohan Sagar, the inspector-in-charge of Chakapad police station.

The brother also lodged a missing person's complaint with the police on November 6, he said.

The woman's decomposed body was found in the forest on November 7, and in the post-mortem examination, it was found that she was raped by multiple people before being killed, he added.

"Every night I wake to it and apologise to her, saying, 'I'm sorry.'"

He also claims to have witnessed the beheading of a young woman who had fought back as Hamas stripped her.

"They threw her to the ground, and one of the terrorists took a shovel and beheaded her," he told The Sunday Times, adding, "And her head rolled along the ground. I see that head, too."

Identification progress and shocking discoveries Rabbi Israel Weiss, a former army chief rabbi, and one of the officials overseeing the identification process, told Reuters that approximately 90 per cent of military casualties have been identified.
