In the filing, Andrew "respectfully moves to dismiss plaintiff Virginia Giuffre's complaint", said the Duke of York’s attorneys. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In August, Giuffre sued Andrew, claiming he sexually assaulted her over 20 years ago when she was 17 and a minor under the US state law. &nbsp;

The 61-year-old Andrew has not been criminally charged. He has repeatedly and strenuously denied the allegations.&nbsp;

Last month, Queen Elizabeth II's second son accepted he was served legal papers in the case. He was also instructed to respond to the lawsuit by October 29. &nbsp;

The lawyers of Andrew asked a Manhattan district court to dismiss the case "for failure to state a claim upon which relief can be granted." &nbsp;

They also asked that 38-year-old Giuffre to alternatively "provide a more definitive statement of her allegations." &nbsp;

Andrew sexually abused Giuffre at the London home of socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, alleges complainant. &nbsp;

Jeffrey Edward Epstein, a name that was once synonymous with finanial genius is now inextricably connected to sex offenses allegedly involving minors. Two years after his death in prison, the legal battle continues. This is the story of how, even after his death, the wealth manager continues to haunt a number of rich and famous including the British royal, Prince Andrew.

Born in New York, Epstein began his professional life as a teacher in a private school in Manhattan. He was soon dismissed from his job after authorities discovered he did not actually earn a college degree and had manipulated his way to the organisation. However, the dismissal led to a road of success for Epstein as this was when he decided to enter the world of finance and banking.

He started working in Bear Stearns in 1976 and continued working in various finance-related roles and utilised his time and resources to develop a social circle among the elite of the US. After another dismissal, he managed to open his own firm Intercontinental Assets Group Inc, which brought in a lot of cash, fame… and women.

<h2>A deadly cocktail of luxury and crime</h2>

When Epstein started becoming successful, he did not hide his wealth and started buying several luxury properties across the country, and was usually spotted at star-studded events.

Slowly, stories of Epstein’s love for 'lustful' activities started circulating in the inner circles of New York elite. Epstein was spotted with several women and while rumours stated that he was also getting involved with underage girls, but nobody was coming at him for the crime.

Epstein continued hiding his activities in his luxury mansions, and allegedly continued sexually assaulting women and underage girls behind closed doors, in exchange for money.

It has also been alleged that Epstein had several peephole cameras hidden all around his mansions, especially the Palm Beach house and his private island in the Virgin Islands, out of some more. Footage from these surveillance cameras was used to record sexual activities with underage girls and then blackmail them.

This allegation was partially confirmed by an artist, Maria Farmer, who had worked for Epstein in 1996. "There were men sitting here. And I looked on the cameras, and I saw toilet, toilet, bed, bed, toilet, bed,"&nbsp;she said about a 'media room' in Epstein’s New York mansion. "It was very obvious that they were, like, monitoring private moments."

Epstein was also accused of lending (underage) girls to some famous and powerful people. This also reportedly&nbsp;helped him gather blackmailing material on powerful people.

<h2>The rich, the Famous and Lolita airlines</h2>

It was not just his lustful indulgences, but also his appearances with the who's who of the town that caught the attention of the media. Epstein reportedly got close with the former US President Bill Clinton, after he left the office. Clinton, it has been reported, took several trips on Epstein's private jet, also dubbed as 'Lolita Express'.&nbsp;Clinton&nbsp;had also called Epstein to be "highly successful financier and a committed philanthropist". However, he later clarified that he knew nothing about the crimes of Epstein.

There's no surprise that Epstein was once a very close friend of the infamous former US President and former reality TV star Donald Trump. "I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy," Trump told American media in 2002. "He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life." Trump was also a regular on the Lolita Express. He has also faced a sexual assault case on Epstein's property, and on the other hand reports claim Epstein was banned from Trump's Mar-a-Lago for sexually assaulting an underage girl on the premises.

Woody Allen, the famous American film director, also ran in the same social circles as Epstein and was a regular at the financer's parties. Allen, who has been accused by his daughter of sexually assaulting her at the age of 7, had also attended a party for Prince Andrew at Epstein’s Manhattan home in 2010.

The famous Harvard law professor,&nbsp;Alan Dershowitz, has also been named in sexual assault cases related to Epstein. two girls have claimed that they were trafficked by Epstein to have sex with the Harvard professor. However, he has denied all accusations.

<h2>Caught and reported</h2>

His case started coming to the radar after a woman reported to the Palm Beach Police that her underage daughter was taken to Epstein’s mansion without her knowledge and was asked to strip and massage Epstein in exchange for money. This led to the Palm Beach Police conducting a 13-month long undercover investigation.

However, the local police complained of not getting enough support from the state prosecutor and asked for the FBI to step in and take charge of the situation.

The case started building and made the headlines of newspapers and media channels all around the world. However, the authorities had misjudged Epstein’s power, and the American financer hit back with all the resources he could arrange.

<h2>'I plead guilty'</h2>

After years of legal battles, on June 39, 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to a state charge of lending a minor girl for prostitution.

This was when the world realised the power of Epstein.

Unlike the majority of the sex offenders, Epstein was reportedly sent to a private wing of the Palm Beach County Stockade instead of the state prison.

The media started pointing out all the other freedom provided to Epstein when he finally started serving his prison sentence. Later, in 2011, he was labelled as a "level three" sex offender in New York.

While serving his jail sentence, on July 23, 2019, Epstein was found unconscious in his prison cell and reportedly had neck injuries. While Epstein believed it was his cellmate who had attacked him, authorities rubbished his claims by labelling it as an attempt to commit suicide.

Following the incident, Epstein was placed under suicide watch for six days.

Later, his cellmate was transferred out and he was not assigned any new cellmate. On 2019 August 9, authorities claim, no guard checked on Epstein after every 30 minutes as per the normal procedure and the security cameras outside his cell malfunctioned. Later, he was found dead in his cell at 6:30 am the following morning, and the cause of death was later labelled as suicide.

Now, years after his death, why is his name being brought up in the news again? The answer is a new Royal connection.

Andrew claims he has never met or had any sort of relationship with Giuffre. He had earlier in 2019 rubbished the claims by stating that he had returned to his house after attending a children’s party.

Giuffre has brought this issue to the headlines now as the recently-resigned New York governor Andrew Cuomo had launched a New York state’s Child Victims Act in 2019. As per this law, all victims whose claims had been time-barred could commence taking action. However, due to the pandemic, the window for this was extended to August 14, which was now coming to an end.

The filing at the US district court in Manhattan said Virginia Giuffre was the plaintiff in the case against the defendant, named as "Prince Andrew, Duke of York."

Giuffre alleged in the filing that she "was regularly abused by Epstein and was lent out by Epstein to other powerful men for sexual purposes.

"One such powerful man... was the Defendant, Prince Andrew."

According to the complaint, Giuffre said Andrew sexually abused her at the London home of socialite Ghislaine Maxwell more than 20 years ago, when she was under 18.

"Epstein, Maxwell, and Prince Andrew forced (the) Plaintiff, a child, to have sexual intercourse with Prince Andrew against her will," it said.

Andrew, 61, has vehemently denied claims he had sex with Giuffre, and said he has no recollection of meeting her, but the allegations threaten to damage the British royal family.

Dropped from royal duties

Andrew, the Queen's second son, stepped back from royal duties in 2019 over his friendship with Epstein.

Giuffre also claims Andrew abused her at Epstein's New York mansion and on Little St. James, Epstein's private island in the US Virgin Islands.

Giuffre, now 38, is suing Andrew under the Child Victims Act as she was 17 at the time.

Epstein was a multimillion-dollar hedge fund manager who befriended celebrities including former president Bill Clinton and Bill Gates.

"I feel very sorry and supportive of my mother, who's feeling it more than everybody else. We as a family are rallying around to support her," he said, on being asked about his mother's emotions.&nbsp;

About his late father, he added, "He was a remarkable man. I loved him as a father. He was always somebody you could go to and he would always listen."&nbsp;

Among those at the Sunday service at a chapel in Windsor Great Park was the Queen's youngest son, Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex.&nbsp;

"However, much one tries to prepare oneself for something like this it's still a dreadful shock," said Prince Edward.&nbsp;

"And we're still trying to come to terms with that. And it's very, very sad. But I have to say that the extraordinary tribute and the memories that everybody has had and been willing to share has been so fantastic," he said.&nbsp;

But on Wednesday he said he was stepping down from public duties because the outcry was causing "major disruption" to the royal family and the charities and organisations associated with it.

He said he was "willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations if required".

US lawyer Lisa Bloom, who represents five women allegedly assaulted by Epstein, told BBC radio that Andrew should speak to everyone probing the allegations, including her.

"All of the staff who work for Prince Andrew should come and give information and evidence and the documents should be turned over -- emails, texts, calendars, phone logs, travel logs -- so we can get to the bottom of this," she said.

Bloom did not rule out approaching the prince directly to secure a sworn statement.

"We believe that nobody is above the law and that everybody should have to answer questions if they have relevant information -- and he clearly does have relevant information."

Since the interview, Andrew has been accused of failing to show sympathy for Epstein's victims, prompting companies and organisations to reassess their ties with the royal.

Some institutions supporting business initiatives championed by the prince have either failed to renew their support or said it was under review.

Others have faced calls for Andrew to be dropped as patron.

US prosecutors on Tuesday unveiled criminal charges accusing two correctional officers of falsifying records on the night financier Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in a New York jail cell.

Tova Noel and Michael Thomas were charged in an indictment with making false records and conspiracy, in connection with their actions at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Manhattan.

Epstein, 66, a well-connected money manager, was found unresponsive in his cell on August 10 at the MCC.

His suicide came a little over a month after he was arrested and charged with trafficking dozens of underage girls as young as 14 from at least 2002 to 2005. Epstein had pleaded not guilty.

Lawyers for Noel and Thomas could not immediately be located.

According to the indictment, Noel and Thomas failed to properly monitor Epstein in the final hours before he killed himself, and no guard checked on Epstein in the eight hours before he was found unresponsive.

Noel and Thomas appeared to have fallen asleep for two hours while on duty, and spent some of their waking hours surfing the internet, the indictment said.

Prosecutors have said Epstein and his associates systematically recruited young girls for him to sexually abuse in his mansions in Manhattan and in Palm Beach, Florida.

An autopsy concluded that Epstein had hanged himself.

Both Epstein's brother and the lawyers who represented him in his criminal case have expressed doubts about the medical examiner's conclusion.

According to the prison bureau, which runs the MCC, the last inmate suicide at the facility was in 2006.

Law enforcement sources told Reuters after Epstein's death that guards had failed to check on Epstein every 30 minutes as required by protocol, and that two cameras outside the jail cell had malfunctioned.

Epstein had been taken off suicide watch shortly before his death.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General launched probes into the circumstances of Epstein's death.

Epstein's estate, which according to his will is worth $577 million, is now the target of civil lawsuits by more than a dozen of his alleged victims.
