The San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles both saw their perfect starts to the NFL season end with upset defeats on Sunday, leaving the league without an unbeaten team after six weeks. The Eagles fell 20-14 in their first-ever loss to the New York Jets with Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts throwing three interceptions at MetLife Stadium.

The Eagles led 14-9 at half-time, a lead that was cut to two points after a third quarter field goal from 38 yards by Greg Zuerlein.

But in the fourth, Eagles kicker Jake Elliott missed a 37-yard field goal and then Hurts threw his third interception of the game, with Tony Adams returning the ball 45 yards to the eight-yard line.

The Eagles allowed Breece Hall to run into the end zone, giving Philadelphia 1:46 to get a game-winning touchdown.

But on a fourth-down play needing eight yards, Hurts went deep towards DeVonta Smith and New York's Jordan Whitehead broke up the play to ensure a huge win for the Jets, who improved to 3-3 even without injured star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

"It's huge, it's a big win for us. That's an unbelievable team," said Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, who threw for 186 yards with no interceptions. "We needed that win. Everyone kept fighting... everyone was battling all across the board. There's no quit in this team."

The 49ers ended a 15-game regular season winning streak, as Jake Moody missed a late 41-yard field goal attempt in a 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

The blow of that defeat, the first as an NFL starter for quarterback Brock Purdy, was even heavier for the 49ers, with star running backs Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel both leaving the game with injuries.

Going into the game on the back of five straight wins, including last week's 42-10 trouncing of the Dallas Cowboys, the 'Niners were heavily favored against a Browns team with just one victory.

McCaffrey scored from a 13-yard Purdy pass to put San Francisco ahead in the first quarter and a 25-yard Moody field goal made it 10-0.

But the Browns fought back, with a 16-yard touchdown run from Kareem Hunt and took the lead after two field goals in the third quarter by Dustin Hopkins.

The 49ers restored their lead early in the fourth with an eight-yard touchdown rush from Jordan Mason before two field goals from Hopkins gave the Browns their narrow lead.

But with nine seconds of the game remaining, Moody missed a chance to win the game with a kick from from 41 yards

"It’s always tough to miss that last kick but it happens," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. "They played better than us today. We made way too many mistakes on offense."

- Dolphins improve to 5-1 -

At Miami, Tua Tagovailoa threw for three touchdowns and 262 yards as the Miami Dolphins again showed the power of their offense, improving to 5-1 with a 42-21 victory over the winless Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers opened a 14-0 lead before the Dolphins turned on the style.

Tyreek Hill had 163 yards receiving, including a 41-yard touchdown catch to put the Dolphins ahead 21-14.

Raheem Mostert then ran in two touchdowns for Miami before a trade a late touchdowns sealed Miami's win.

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell threw three touchdown passes in a 24-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons, which improved the Commanders to 3-3.

Falcons quarterback Desmond Ridder threw two touchdowns -- the second a two-yard toss to Jonnu Smith that reduced the deficit to eight points.

But Ridder threw two interceptions to end Atlanta's comeback hopes.

The Cincinnati Bengals defense came up big in a 17-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle quarterback Geno Smith threw two interceptions in the second half and the Bengals defense stopped the Seahawks twice deep in Cincinnati territory late in the game.

In London, the Baltimore Ravens beat the Tennessee Titans 24-16 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Justin Tucker kicking six field goals.

San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles see NFL unbeaten runs end

The Philadelphia Eagles maintained their unbeaten start to the NFL season with a comprehensive 25-11 victory on the road over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts rushed for one touchdown and threw for another as last season's Super Bowl runners-up improved to 3-0 –- the franchise's best start to a season since the 1992-1993 campaign.

Hurts finished with 277 passing yards from 23-of-37 attempts while rushing 28 yards from 10 carries, including one of the Eagles' trademark "tush-push" close-range touchdowns.

Philadelphia running back D’Andre Swift had 130 yards from 16 carries while wide receiver A.J. Brown caught the eye with 131 yards from nine receptions.

The Eagles are now only one of three teams in the league with a 3-0 record, joining the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins.

Hurts warned after the game that the Eagles still had plenty of room for improvement as they target a swift return to the Super Bowl this season.

"We found a way to win, and we found a way to execute," Hurts said.

"I think we're a work in progress. We're playing really good team football, and we're still growing. That's the beautiful thing about it."

A cagey opening period saw defenses on top, with the Eagles having to settle for a 36-yard Jake Elliott field goal for their only scoring drive of the first quarter.

Tampa Bay, who were also unbeaten before Monday, squared the game at 3-3 after a Chase McLaughlin field goal in the second quarter before the Eagles took over.

Hurts threaded a superb 34-yard pass to Olamide Zaccheaus for the game's opening touchdown before Elliott booted another field goal to put Philadelphia 13-3 up at half-time.

The Eagles turned the screw with the opening drive of the third quarter, Hurts marching his team 75 yards up field with a 13-play masterpiece that culminated with the quarterback being shoved over from one yard out to make it 20-3.

Tampa Bay were given a glimmer of hope soon afterwards when Dee Delaney produced a stunning interception to deny Philadelphia another touchdown.

But the Eagles hit back as Tampa Bay tried to rush out of the end zone, with Rachaad White stopped in his tracks to concede a safety that put Philadelphia 22-3 ahead. Elliott added another field goal to stretch the Eagles lead to 25-3.

The Bucs did finally breach the Eagles defense on their next possession, with quarterback Baker Mayfield finding Mike Evans for a close-range score and then making the two-point conversion.

But it was too little too late as Philadelphia ran down the clock in the fourth quarter to close out victory.

"Give the Eagles credit, they made some plays and we didn't," Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles said.

"We didn't move the ball well. But we win as a team and we lose as a team. The offense didn't play well and the defense didn't play well."

Week 3: Eagles continue unbeaten run with win over Buccaneers

D'Andre Swift rushed for a career-high 175 yards and a touchdown as the Philadelphia Eagles turned to their running game to defeat the Minnesota Vikings 34-28 in the NFL on Thursday.

The Eagles, beaten in last season's Super Bowl by the Kansas City Chiefs, move to 2-0 on the season while the Vikings, who went 13-4 last season, have lost both their season openers.

After the Vikings opened up a 7-3 lead early in the second, Philadelphia scored 24 straight points and never looked back -- helped by turnovers from Minnesota.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts struggled with the passing game in the first half in Philadelphia but he too showed his value on the ground.

Hurts ran in a pair of one-yard touchdowns as well as finding an open DeVonta Smith with a 63-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give Philadelphia a 27-7 lead.

The Vikings gave themselves a chance when quarterback Kirk Cousins found Jordan Addison with a throw down the middle for a 62-yard touchdown.

Minnesota made it a six-point game when K.J Osborn scored on a 10-yard pass from Cousins but the Eagles responded on the next drive with Swift finishing off a 75-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run to give them a 34-21 lead with 4:13 left.

Cousins connected with tight-end T.J. Hockenson with 1:10 left in the game but the Eagles held firm.

The Vikings paid the price for turnovers, giving up four fumbles, three of them in the first half of the game.

The most crucial was just before half-time when receiver Justin Jefferson lost the ball attempting a touchdown, allowing the Eagles possession with a touchback.

Just as in their win at New England in week one, the Eagles were far from the levels produced last season but Hurts said they had shown they know how to grind out victories.

"I think the reality is that when you have so much success and you win, you do it in certain types of ways, it becomes how you win. The reality is all we are going to do is win," he told Amazon Prime.

Philadelphia ran for a total of 259 yards and center Jason Kelce said they had ground down the Vikings with their running game.

"We're really happy to be able to assert our will and over the course of the game you felt it just pile up," he said.

"We know we have got things that we have got to clean up. We had a lot of opportunities on offense and we need to put up more points. The game should not have been that close," he said.

Despite the loss Cousins can take some comfort from his own display, throwing four touchdowns and 364 yards with no interceptions.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles make merry of Minnesota Vikings fumbles in second consecutive win

The San Francisco 49ers produced a statement victory on the opening Sunday of the new NFL season with an emphatic 30-7 crushing of the Pittsburgh Steelers while the Philadelphia Eagles survived a poor display to win at New England.

The Cincinnati Bengals and their high-earning quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a surprise 24-3 defeat at divisional rivals Cleveland while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers started life after Tom Brady with 20-17 victory at Minnesota.

The Philadelphia Eagles, beaten in last season's Super Bowl by the Kansas City Chiefs, won 25-20 at the New England Patriots while Tua Tagovailoa led the Miami Dolphins to a thrilling 36-34 win at the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 49ers, beaten in the NFC Championship game last season by the Eagles, made the perfect start with a convincing victory in Pittsburgh as quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

After grabbing the starting role in his rookie season, San Francisco's Purdy underwent elbow surgery during the off-season but showed no signs of any lingering issues as he completed 19 of 29 passes.

Running back Christian McCaffrey also enjoyed a dominant opening day as he rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown.

San Francisco got themselves underway with Purdy's eight-yard touchdown pass into the endzone to Brandon Aiyuk and the same combination delivered again in the second quarter with Aiyuk brilliantly pulling in an 18-yard pass into the corner despite the close attention of Patrick Peterson.

The Steelers narrowed the deficit at the end of the first half when Pat Freiermuth collected a three-yard scoring pass from Kenny Pickett at the end of a 12-play, 95-yard drive.

But the 49ers defense held firm in the second half and McCaffrey's magnificent 65-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter crowned an excellent win.

The other defeated conference championship team from last year, the Bengals -- who lost out to eventual Super Bowl winners Kansas City in the AFC Championship -- had a very different start.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, who missed the first 11 games of last season after he was suspended following an investigation into sexual harassment allegations, threw one touchdown and ran for another in an impressive display from Cleveland.

Burrow struggles

Burrow signed a five-year contract extension with the Bengals on Saturday that makes him the league's highest-paid player, with the 26-year-old due to earn $275 million from the deal, but he was held to just 82 yards passing, the lowest return of his career.

Watson got the Browns rolling with a 13-yard touchdown run at the end of the second quarter and then sealed the victory with a three-yard pass to Harrison Bryant in the fourth, with the quarterback then running in the two-point conversion.

"I think the result kind of speaks for itself," Watson said after the victory in rainy conditions.

"I think the biggest statement is for us to be able to go out there regardless of the adversity, regardless of the weather condition, and pull through and get this victory. That's what it's all about in this league."

The Eagles didn't sparkle or shine against the Patriots but managed to grind out a win on a day in which their usually potent offense was mis-firing.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts through 22-for-33 for 170 yards and a touchdown and the Eagles only had 251 total yards offense.

Miami's offense was certainly firing on all cylinders with Tagovailoa throwing for 466 yards and three touchdowns while Tyreek Hill caught two of those touchdowns and had 215 yards receiving.

Tagovailoa connected with Hill for what proved to be the game-winner with 1:45 remaining.

Jason Sanders missed the point after, leaving the Chargers with the chance to win the game with a field goal, but Miami defenders Jaelan Phillips and Justin Bethel sacked Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on fourth down.

Tampa Bay had turned to Baker Mayfield to replace the retired Brady and after a sticky opening in Minneapolis he made a winning start for his new club.

Mayfield threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns - tying the game at 10-10 with a 28-yard pass to Mike Evans late in the second before a seven-yard pass to Trey Palmer, at the end of a 16-play, 75-yard drive in the third put Tampa ahead.

The Vikings fought back, with Kirk Cousins finding Alexander Mattison for a touchdown early in the fourth, but Tampa won the game on a career-long 57-yard field goal from Chase McLaughlin.

Jordan Love, the new Green Bay Packers quarterback replacing longtime star Aaron Rodgers, shined in a 38-20 win at Chicago, throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns.

Later on Sunday, the New York Giants host NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys while on Monday Rodgers makes his debut for the New York Jets against the Buffalo Bills.

Week 1: Eagles survive poor game against Patriots; 49ers crush Steelers on opening Sunday Night Football

In another fight during the NFL preseason combined practice, the joint session between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts ended after a sideline clearing brawl. The fight started when Eagles center Jason Kelce blindsided Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin at the end of a play, making him fall on the ground.

Kelce did so after taking offence with Franklin getting extra physical with Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell. Kelce, however, apologised after the session was cut short.

"We try and keep things civil on the field, and I pride myself on being a guy that sustains the emotions and level of play out there, and I let my emotions get the better of me," Kelce said. "That certainly doesn't belong out there on the field, and a little ashamed that it got to that level."

The Eagles center also added that he didn't meet the Colts LB after that game as 'tensions are a little bit too high for that right now.'

Speaking on the melee, Franklin, clearly not very amused with it, said that sometimes 'people get offended - that's life.'

"When you have joint practices against other organizations, sometimes your speed ain't their speed," said Franklin. "People get offended -- that's life."

I thought the OGs would at least look me in the eye before [hitting me], but it's all good. I might get a chance to look him in the eye Thursday, so we're going to be OK."

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, however, was not amused with the session being cut short because of the fight

"It's a competitive game, and I love the competition of it," he said. "This is what I get paid to do -- to play football, so I wanted to practice."

NFL: Eagles center Jason Kelce apologises for starting melee with 'cheap shot' against Colts in joint practice

On Thursday (August 17), an unfortunate incident took place during a preseason face-off between Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns. Two Eagles players, receiver Tyrie Cleveland and rookie defensive lineman Moro Ojomo, were stretchered off the field after the duo suffered neck injuries in the preseason game. Both players have movement in their extremities, confirmed the team. "I haven't talked to the doctors yet but it sounds like they're moving around," coach Nick Sirianni pointed out. "I don't know anything else besides that," he opined.

Tyrie Cleveland, the Eagles wide receiver, was the first to be injured. In an attempt to catch an incomplete pass from quarterback Tanner McKee, he fell awkwardly and landed on his neck. As a result, the medical staff was quick to respond as it rushed to the field with Cleveland being taken off on a stretcher.

NFL: Cleveland, Ojomo stretchered off field during Philadelphia Eagles' face-off vs Cleveland Browns

The Super Bowl LVII runner-ups Philadelphia Eagles have signed two veteran linebackers in an attempt to strengthen their defensive depth chart. Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham have been signed to one-year deals, announced the Eagles on Sunday.

Philadelphia have five linebackers as of now without the two new signings with Nakobe Dean and Nicholas Morrow expected to be starters. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman had said last month that the franchise would be keeping its linebacker options open.

Talking about the players, Jack spent six years with the Jacksonville Jaguars before spending a year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jack, a round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, has been sensational in the last three years, amassing more than 100 total tackles each in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Jack's only season with the Steelers saw him leading Pittsburgh with 104 total tackles. Overall, the linebacker has played 104 games in seven years, recording 617 tackles, out of which 396 are solo. He also has 6.5 sacks to his name to go with three interceptions as well.

As for Cunningham, the former Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans linebacker hasn't been much effective in the last two seasons owing to an elbow injury. He, however, recorded three consecutive 100+ tackles from 2018 to 2020. A round 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Cunningham spent three seasons with the Texans before moving to Tennessee for a couple of years.

In 2020, Cunningham had the best season of his career, recording 164 total tackles in 16 games with 106 being solo to go with three sacks as well. Overall, the LB has played 82 games, registering 620 total tackles out of which 392 are solo. He also has 6.5 sacks to his name along with one interception that he recorded in 2018.

The Eagles start their season against the New England Patriots on September 10.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles sign linebackers Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham to strengthen depth chart

A jury in Ohio courtroom acquitted Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Josh Sills on Friday, August 4 on one count of rape and kidnapping. Sills was indicted for the same by Guernsey County Common Pleas Court grand jury in February. The jury in Ohio, however, thought otherwise after a three-hour long deliberation.

Sills was pleased after the verdict and was glad that his innocence has been proven. "I have done nothing wrong, and I am glad that was proven today," Sills said after the ruling, reported ESPN.

Sill was accused of engaging in a non-consensual sexual activity and holding a victim against her will in December 2019. After Sill was found guilty in February, the league had put him on the exempt list. The OL, however, continued to remain on the Eagles' roaster who had signed him in April 2022.

Being on the exempt list, Sills was barred from joining the Eagles squad in practices or games or even travel. Following his vindication, the Eagles released a statement saying that he'll be returning to active roaster.

"We are aware that the legal matter involving Josh Sills has been adjudicated and he was found not guilty. The organization has monitored the situation. The NFL has removed him from the Commissioner's Exempt List and he will return to the team's active roster."

The NFL also issued a statement, saying that Sill has been removed from the commissioner's exempt list.

"We have notified the Eagles that Sills has been removed from the commissioner's exempt list and is eligible to join the club. His status will be included in tomorrow's league's personnel notice.''

Sill appeared in only one game last season for the Eagles, that is, in October against the Arizona Cardinals.

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Josh Sills acquitted from rape and kidnapping charges

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts, who led the Eagles into last season's Super Bowl, became the NFL's highest-paid player on Monday after agreeing to a five-year contract extension worth $255 million.

The Eagles locked up the 24-year-old signal caller through the 2028 campaign with a deal that, according to the NFL's website, has $179.304 million in guaranteed money and the first no-trade clause in team history.

Hurts went 14-1 as a starter last season, completing 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushing 165 times for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.

After the Eagles' 2020 NFL Draft pick led routs of the New York Giants and San Francisco in the playoffs, Philadelphia lost the Super Bowl 38-35 to Kansas City despite Hurts throwing for 304 yards and a touchdown and rushing for Super Bowl records by a quarterback of 70 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Hurts-Eagles deal is the NFL's biggest ever in average annual value, Deshaun Watson's $230 million contract with Cleveland last year remains the largest in terms of guaranteed money and the 10-year deal for $450 million Patrick Mahomes signed with Kansas City in 2020 remains the largest in total payout.

Hurts can earn an additional $15 million in contract incentives to boost his total above $275 million in the deal, including $4.3 million he would have been paid in the final year of his original rookie contract.

With a $23.294 million signing bonus, Hurts is set to make $64 million in the first season of the new deal.

"The thing with Jalen I'm so optimistic about is he's just got this incredible... passion for being phenomenal," Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said earlier this month at the NFL annual meeting in Arizona.

"You see that in the great ones. You can define them by their obsession with detail and work ethic.

"I think the future is so great for him. Honestly, I don't know if I've ever met somebody that mature at age 24."

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles make Jalen Hurts highest paid QB ever in latest extension deal

Quarterback Carson Wentz has been released by the Washington Commanders after just one season on Monday. The move comes without a surprise after what was a horrid season that ended with eight wins, eight losses and one tie. Wentz played in eight games with seven starts, managing a 2-5 win-loss record.

By releasing Wentz, Washington would save around $26 million in salary cap for the upcoming offseason as he had no guarantee money despite two years left on his contract. This is the Commanders' second release after they released defensive back Bobby McCain on Monday and saved around $2.3 million on the salary cap.

Wentz, who will now look for his fourth-team in as many years, can sign with any team before the start of the free agency. Washington had acquired Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts in a trade last year that included multiple second and third round picks.

Wentz was the no. 2 draft pick in 2016 and was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles. The QB almost had his MVP season in 2017 before getting injured in the postseason in what was a Super Bowl-winning run for the Eagles. Wentz eventually was traded to the Colts after five seasons with the Eagles in favour of fresh recruit Jalen Hurts.

With the Colts, Wentz came back to form strongly and delivered one of his most prolific seasons since 2017 with 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. A loss to the 2-14 Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, however, dimmed his possibilities of staying with the Colts for the upcoming season.

All in all, Wentz has started in 92 games and thrown 151 touchdowns along with 66 interceptions. A lot of injuries have marred his career throughout and this season might be his last chance to be a starter for an NFL team for which he clearly possesses talent and skills.

NFL: Washington Commanders release QB Carson Wentz after just one season

Super Bowl LVII was a game of emotions, skill, hard work, talent and luck. It became historic as well with two brothers playing opposite each other for the first time, that is Travis and Jason Kelce, for the Chiefs and the Eagles, respectively. The brothers played their hearts out at the biggest stage of the game but as the rule dictates, only one of them could lift the Lombardi trophy and in this case, it was Travis Kelce as Kansas City beat Philadelphia 38-35. The adrenaline has now settled and the brothers got together for their immensely popular podcast New Heights to recount the madness of the Super Bowl LVII week.

During the podcast, Jason talked about his future and like every player, he's exhausted from the crazy week he had. The Eagles Centre said he couldn't answer right now about playing or not playing in the next season. "Man, I can't answer that right now. No chance," 35-year-old Jason said during the podcast. "We'll answer that soon enough, I guess. I don't know the answer to that right now. So I can't answer it."

Both the brothers were visibly emotional during the podcast and tried hard to fight their tears. Travis even mentioned that he was "boo-hoo" crying all week. The 33-year-old Tight End for the Chiefs won his second Super Bowl in four years and didn't hide his thoughts about the event at all.

Super Bowl LVII: Kansas City Chiefs beat Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 after a late dash

The Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday was a game of inspiration, frenzy, spirited performance, slippery field, and a controversial call in the final minutes of the championship showdown. A call that may have changed the outcome of the game or denied a chance of the game going into OT. The call in question here was made with the game hanging in balance at 35-35 and with 1:54 minutes left on the clock, the refs gave a defence holding penalty against the Eagles. The call immediately gave the Chiefs, which were 3rd-and-8 at the Eagles' 15-yard line, a first down.

Eagles fans didn't like it. LeBron James didn't agree with the call. A lot of former players called the refs out for the outrageous call which stopped the game short of becoming one of the all-time classics. Here are some of the tweets:

What happened after that call was pure game awareness from the Chiefs. Their QB Patrick Mahomes, despite a troubling ankle, continued with the drive, which ended in Chiefs' Kicker Harrison Butker's 27-yard field goal with just eight seconds left on the clock. The scores were 38-35 and FG was good, good enough for the Chiefs to win their second Super Bowl in four years.

One of the two involved in the call, Eagles cornerback James Bradberry, however, accepted that he was holding Chief's Juju Smith-Schuster's jersey. Well, even if the penalty was technically right, it raises a question of whether the game has become too technically right with no space for some harmless non-direction-changing plays. Imagine, if the call wasn't given. The Chiefs would have scored the FG but the Eagles would have had enough time to respond and level and we might have been writing about that play instead of this one. But alas, it shall stay as what if.

Super Bowl LVII: Twitter outraged over late holding penalty call by refs against Eagles

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the Super Bowl LVII MVP as Kansas City rallied from behind to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in the championship showdown on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. The Chiefs' QB gave a spirited performance despite a troubling ankle and threw three touchdowns while completing 21 of 27 pass attempts for a total of 182 yards. Mahomes was earlier named the league MVP before the Super Bowl as the QB led its team to a 14-3 regular season record before going 3-0 in the postseason. This is the Chiefs' second Lombardi trophy in four years and third in total with Mahomes becoming only the 13th QB in NFL history to win multiple championships.

The Super Bowl winner will now head to Disneyland with a parade set for Monday 4:30 PM ET. The QB, however, said that he wouldn't take his 'world tour' for granted. The Chiefs had lost in Super Bowl LV 31-9 to Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers and lost last season in the AFC Championship game to the Cincinnati Bengals despite leading by 18 points. Reflecting on the win, Mahomes said, "the failures ... they give you a greater, greater appreciation to be standing here as a champion."

While Mahomes' numbers share the story of his part in the game, the fact that the QB played with an ankle sprain but still managed to take his team over the line makes him the true MVP. Mahomes had injured his ankle during the divisional round vs the Jacksonville Jaguars and the injury was aggravated late in the first half of the marquee clash but the QB powered through the pain to run for 14 yards in the Chiefs' touchdown drive to begin the second half. He also managed to scramble for 26 yards in the winners' game-winning drive which culminated with Kicker Harrison Butker's 27-yard field-goal with eight seconds remaining on the clock.

Earlier, the game started with a wild pace as the Eagles soared high and scored a touchdown on their game-opening drive. Philadelphia kept the pressure on and were up 24-14 by the end of the first half. The Eagles, however, conceded the advantage which included a turnover as well and a spirited Mahomes led his team to victory.

NFL: Patrick Mahomes named Super Bowl LVII MVP, Chiefs beat Eagles to win Lombardi Trophy

Apart from Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' game-winning MVP performance against the Philadelphia Eagles, the surface of the State Farm Stadium in Arizona was also a hot topic during the Super Bowl LVII. The players from both teams termed the surface slippery and sliding. Several players went for a change of cleats as they found it hard to manage footing and slipped on many occasions. The Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was also one of the players to go for different cleats to get a better grip and traction. The Chiefs QB Mahomes, who played with a sprained ankle, also slipped while trying to make a cut but manage to scramble for a few yards.

"The field was kind of terrible," Kansas City defensive lineman Frank Clark said. "We've had this problem in Arizona before. A lot of these stadiums try to do new tactics with the grass, they try to do new things. I've been playing football since I was 7. The best grass is grass that is naturally there. Both the Chiefs and the Eagles managed 340 or more yards on offense, however, the total points of both teams were only 73. Eagles offensive lineman Jordan Mailata went one up and termed the field as a water park! "The footing? It was terrible," he said. "But the Kansas City Chiefs had to play on it, too. To be fair, they kind of said it was terrible, too, during the TV timeout. So, I'm glad we were on the same page. It was just slick. You couldn't anchor. You had to get your whole foot in the ground. If you try and use just your toe, you'd slip right away. You saw the receivers -- it was like a water park out there. And we're playing on grass," added Mailata.

The Philadelphia Eagles, prepping for the Super Bowl LVII, have activated punter Arryn Siposs ahead of the marquee clash, set to be played on February 12 at the State Farm stadium in Phoenix, Arizona against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles have also promoted safety Anthony Harris and receiver Greg Ward from the practice squad to the active roster. Siposss was on the injured list since Week 14 after he injured his ankle during the game against the New York Giants. Siposs will take the place back from his replacement Brett Kern, who could not fill the shoes in Siposs' absence.

Siposs averages 45.6 yards per punt this season with a net average of 40.5 yards. Kern, on the other hand, averaged a mediocre 42.2 yards per punt and an even lower net average of 37.7 yards. The Super Bowl-bound teams, meanwhile, are fine-tuning their plans one last time as they face each other on Sunday.

All but one of the Eagles' fitness worries had cleared up but punt return specialist and wide receiver Britain Covey was listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he had a full roster available for the game with those players who had some question marks over injuries given the all-clear.

"I'm happy for the guys," Reid said. "We'll make it work with whatever we got but I'm happy for the guys to have this chance. It's special. To play in the Super Bowl. It's a great opportunity that doesn't come around very often," he said.

Reid added that Saturday's relatively light session was called a "Mock Game" practice, which involved "all the situational stuff."

The Eagles walk through practice had a similar focus with an emphasis on game-opening plays and situations including two-minute drills, punts and fourth downs.

After the session, the Eagles senior players who make up their dozen-strong leadership council stayed on the field to talk for a while with coach Nick Sirianni.

"Sometimes good coaching is just reminding them of things they already know," Sirianni said of the conversation.

"So just reminding (them to) stay in routine, stay in the moment. Don't let distractions happen," he added.

On paper, there is very little to choose between the teams, who have identical 16-3 records this season and remarkably have even scored the exact same number of points -- 546.

Mahomes and Hurts are the youngest quarterback pairing ever in a Super Bowl and Sunday's game also marks the first time that two black quarterbacks face each other in the biggest game.

Mahomes will cement his status as the finest NFL quarterback of this post-Tom Brady generation if he can add a second Super Bowl ring to his two Most Valuable Player awards.

The Chiefs quarterback is playing in his third Super Bowl, having won in 2020, while his 24-year-old opposite number Hurts is making his debut in the game and has played only three post-season games in his career.

The Chiefs can count on Mahomes's strong partnership with tight end Travis Kelce, but the Eagles have a strong defense and Hurts has the ability to run with the ball, providing a dangerous dual threat.

Late predictions from the pundits along with bookmakers odds were suggesting the Eagles may be slight favorites, but for many Americans Sunday is simply about gathering with friends, drinks and snacks at a Super Bowl party.

Over 100 million Americans are expected to watch the game, which has claimed 30 of the 32 most watched broadcasts in American television history.

NFL: Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes named league MVP second time

The Philadelphia Eagles scored an upset 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots to win their first ever Super Bowl here Sunday after a late Tom Brady fumble ended the quarterback's tilt at history.

A magnificent performance from the Eagles' backup quarterback Nick Foles -- who threw three touchdowns and nearly 400 yards -- had helped Philadelphia into a 38-33 lead with just over two minutes left in a high-scoring game at Minneapolis's US Bank Stadium.

The stage was set for Brady, 40, to mount one of his famous comeback drives as the clock ticked down and the Patriots took possession.

But superb pressure from Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham forced Brady to fumble, turning the ball over to Philadelphia deep in New England territory.

Brady, who had been bidding to become the oldest quarterback to win the Super Bowl and the first man to win six Lombardi Trophies, sat on the turf in disbelief as the Eagles erupted in celebration.

Philadelphia, who had taken the lead on the preceding drive when Foles found Zach Ertz in the end zone, then saw Jake Elliott kick a 46-yard field goal to take an eight-point lead at 41-33.

There was still a minute left for the Patriots to launch one last drive.

But Philadelphia was not going to be denied, and a desperate Brady Hail Mary failed to find a receiver as the clock ran out, and the Eagles celebrated as green and silver confetti exploded across the stadium.

It was a bitter end for Brady, who incredibly threw for more than 500 yards in a game that set a record for combined offensive yardage.

Yet the night belonged to Foles, who had only come into the Eagles' starting line-up in December after a season-ending injury to star quarterback Carson Wentz.
