Ramzi Kevin Arefa, a repeat offender and Bouhlel's aide faces the maximum prison time. If convicted, Ramzi may receive a maximum penalty of life imprisonment while his other aides are expected to receive jail terms between five to 20 years.&nbsp;

At the time of the incident, the terrorist outfit&nbsp;Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack. However, French authorities, after the investigation stated that despite being inspired by the ideas of the terrorist outfit,&nbsp;Bouhlel did not have any direct connection with the jihadi outfit.&nbsp;

According to&nbsp;Bouhlel's family, he was not a religious person but was a regular drug user, who had been in depression for a long time. He was in the middle of a divorce with her wife and had been fired from his job, a month prior to the terrorist incident.

He also added, resonating the President's remarks that the country&nbsp;was "at war with Islamist extremism... an enemy that is both internal and external."

Le Drian's statement came after the country increased security across the country, especially near the borders and churches, especially for the upcoming All Saints' Day holiday on Sunday. Local reports have claimed that a woman was beheaded by an attacker with a knife who also killed two other people at a church on Thursday morning.&nbsp;The attack happened&nbsp;in or near the city's Notre Dame church and the police have detained the attacker, the Mayor reported. The motive of the attack is yet not clear. The attacker was shot by the police while being detained and has now been taken&nbsp;to a local hospital, and is alive.&nbsp;

Mayor of the city has confirmed that the city is treating the incident as a terrorist attack.&nbsp;The French prosecutors have now opened a terror probe into this matter.

A video, uploaded by an onlooker on Twitter, shows the chaos on the streets immediately after the attacker charged.

The Mayor also claimed that the attacker had repeatedly used the phrase "Ällah-Hu-Akbar". Local reporters&nbsp;at the scene said police armed with automatic weapons had put up a security cordon around the church, which is on Nice's Jean Medecin Avenue, the city's main shopping thoroughfare. Ambulances and fire service vehicles were also at the scene, and the area has been cordoned by the local police.

The "Islamo-fascist" assailant "didn't stop shouting Allahu Akhbar even under medication" after being shot and arrested, said Mr Estrosi, leaving "no doubt that this was a terror attack".

"As I speak there are without doubt two victims killed in the same manner as Samuel Paty."

The French resort of Cannes won court backing for its &quot;burkini ban&quot; today as a judge refused to overturn its decision to forbid Muslim women from wearing the full-body swimsuit. 
 
Local authorities in the Riviera city, home to the famous Cannes film festival, moved to ban burkinis from beaches at the end of July. The nearby resort of Villeneuve-Loubet followed suit today. 
 
Three women backed by the Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) challenged the Cannes decision in court on Friday, saying it was illegal and calling for it to be suspended. 
 
But a court in Nice rejected the request, saying the move was legal under French law forbidding people from &quot;invoking their religious beliefs to skirt common rules regulating relations between public authorities and private individuals&quot;. 
 
The judge noted that the Cannes ban had been declared &quot;in the context of the state of emergency and recent Islamist attacks, notably in Nice a month ago&quot;. 
 
&quot;The wearing of distinctive clothing, other than that usually worn for swimming, can indeed only be interpreted in this context as a straightforward symbol of religiosity,&quot; the ruling said. 
 
CCIF lawyer Sefen Guez Guez said he would appeal the decision before France&#39;s highest administrative court, adding: &quot;This decision opens the door to a ban on all religious symbols in the public space.&quot; 
 
Anti-racism groups have expressed outrage at the burkini bans, which come at a highly sensitive time following a series of jihadist attacks in France.

In nearby Villeneuve-Loubet, mayor Lionnel Luca had a different justification for banning the garment, saying he made the decision for sanitary reasons. 
 
&quot;I was informed that there was a couple on one of our beaches where the wife was swimming fully dressed,&quot; said. 
 
&quot;I considered that unacceptable for hygienic reasons and that in general it was unwelcome.&quot; 
 
He disputing charges that the burkini ban was discriminatory, saying it was intended &quot;to avoid any disturbance to public order in the region which was hit by attacks&quot;. 
 
Burkinis have also been in the headlines in France this week after a waterpark in the city of Marseille cancelled plans to host a private event for women wearing burkinis, following a public uproar. 
 
France has been hit by three major terror attacks in 18 months, and the Islamic State group claimed two assaults on French territory in July. 
 
On July 14, Nice was the target of an attack claimed by IS which killed 85 people, when an Algerian ploughed a truck into crowds celebrating Bastille Day. 
 
And on July 26, a priest was killed in his church in northwestern France by two attackers who had proclaimed their allegiance to IS.

Three women backed by the Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) challenged the Cannes decision in court on Friday, saying it was illegal and calling for it to be suspended. But a court in Nice rejected the request, saying the move was legal under French law forbidding people from "invoking their religious beliefs to skirt common rules regulating relations between public authorities and private individuals". The judge noted that the Cannes ban had been declared "in the context of the state of emergency and recent Islamist attacks, notably in Nice a month ago". "The wearing of distinctive clothing, other than that usually worn for swimming, can indeed only be interpreted in this context as a straightforward symbol of religiosity," the ruling said. CCIF lawyer Sefen Guez Guez said he would appeal the decision before France's highest administrative court, adding: "This decision opens the door to a ban on all religious symbols in the public space." Anti-racism groups have expressed outrage at the burkini bans, which come at a highly sensitive time following a series of jihadist attacks in France. Islamic dress has long been a hot-button issue in secular France, where the full-face veil is banned in public places. But there is no ban on wearing religious symbols or clothing. 'Ban for sanitary decisions' Cannes mayor David Lisnard said he had signed off on the burkini ban out of "respect for good customs and secularism", a founding principle of the French republic. In nearby Villeneuve-Loubet, mayor Lionnel Luca had a different justification for banning the garment, saying he made the decision for sanitary reasons. "I was informed that there was a couple on one of our beaches where the wife was swimming fully dressed," said. "I considered that unacceptable for hygienic reasons and that in general it was unwelcome." He disputing charges that the burkini ban was discriminatory, saying it was intended "to avoid any disturbance to public order in the region which was hit by attacks". Burkinis have also been in the headlines in France this week after a waterpark in the city of Marseille cancelled plans to host a private event for women wearing burkinis, following a public uproar. France has been hit by three major terror attacks in 18 months, and the Islamic State group claimed two assaults on French territory in July. On July 14, Nice was the target of an attack claimed by IS which killed 85 people, when an Algerian ploughed a truck into crowds celebrating Bastille Day. And on July 26, a priest was killed in his church in northwestern France by two attackers who had proclaimed their allegiance to IS. (AFP)

A passenger ferry docked in the southern French port of Marseille was evacuated on Sunday after an explosion was felt on board, with authorities investigating if it was caused by an old wartime bomb. 
 
France has been on high alert following the Bastille Day truck attack in Nice which killed 84 and the jihadist murder of a priest last week. 
 
All the passengers had already disembarked after their voyage from Corsica and the blast did not cause any damage to the ship or dock, officials said. 
 
&quot;The Jean Nicoli of the shipping company Corsica Linea had completed its disembarking operations after coming from Porto Vecchio when what appears to be an underwater explosion shook the ship,&quot; the Marseille port authority said in a statement. 
 
&quot;The ship&#39;s captain immediately implemented security procedures and suspended the operation of embarking passengers for the next destination of Porto Torres in Sardinia,&quot; it said. 
 
Marseille deputy prosecutor Jean-Jacques Fagni confirmed to AFP that the explosion &quot;very fortunately was without any consequences, neither to property nor person&quot;. 
 
The port authority said only crew members were on board at the time and all were immediately evacuated. A maintenance worker said, &quot;I was in the cabin, and there was noise: &#39;boom&#39;.&quot; Another worker said, &quot;It went &#39;boom&#39; and we felt like something moving up and down.&quot;

An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the explosion. The magistrate had initially said it appeared to be caused by an old explosive device on the seabed. 
 
Dives conducted during the afternoon however did not seem to support this hypothesis, according to a source familiar with the incident. &quot;There was something, for sure, but what?&quot; said the source. 
 
The prosecutor said on Sunday night, &quot;It is still too early to say what it is or what it is not,&quot; while noting that they had not ruled out it being caused by an old bomb. 
 
Marseille police commissioner Laurent Nunez said &quot;security measures&quot; had been taken, including inspections of other quays, following the incident. After &quot;removing any doubts&quot; he allowed the ship to depart on Sunday night for Sardinia, its original destination. 
 
There are numerous World War II munitions in the sea and on land around Marseille, which was the scene of a major battle. In January frogmen found 50 unexploded shells off the port.

In the request seen by AFP on Friday, the anti-terror police in Paris ask Nice to &quot;proceed with the complete destruction of footage from all cameras used on the Promenade des Anglais&quot;, where the carnage took place on July 14.

Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel rammed a 19-tonne truck into a crowd along the promenade after a Bastille Day fireworks display. He was subsequently shot dead by police.

The request, dated July 20, concerns &quot;all copies of footage of the crime scene created outside of the investigation&quot;.

A source in the Paris prosecutor&#39;s office, which is leading the investigation into the attack, told AFP the police aimed to prevent dissemination of the &quot;profoundly shocking&quot; images.

&quot;These images are sealed evidence (to be used only) for the purposes of the investigation,&quot; the source added.

A lawyer for the city of Nice, which is run by the opposition Republican&#39;s party, said the request was problematic because it involved tampering with evidence.

Lawyer Philippe Blanchetier said the images would normally be automatically deleted after 10 days.
