National Football League (NFL) owners on Tuesday voted to allow private equity investment in a landmark move that could see billions of dollars in new funding pumped into the sport, the US-based league confirmed.

At a meeting in Milwaukee, the owners of the NFL's 32 teams gave the green light to a plan that would allow a group of hand-picked private equity firms to purchase up to a 10-percent stake in a team.

Tuesday's vote represents a significant departure for the way NFL teams are funded. Historically, franchises have been run as family businesses or owned by wealthy individuals.

The move to allow private equity investment potentially puts billions of dollars of new cash on the table to help pay for new stadiums and other projects for the most popular sport in the United States.

According to NFL documents setting out the parameters of the new funding deal, private equity firms can now purchase up to a 10-percent stake in a team and must retain that investment for a minimum of six years.

The NFL has approved three private equity firms, Arctos Partners, Ares Management and Sixth Street as well as a consortium consisting of Blackstone, Carlyle, CVC, Dynasty Equity and Ludis, as the companies allowed to invest in the NFL.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told a press conference following Tuesday's vote that the carefully crafted funding measure would barely be noticed by NFL fans.

"From a fan's standpoint, this won't change a thing," Goodell said.&nbsp;

"This is 10 percent of a team. All it is is a silent position that would give access to capital for the teams that wish to offer 10 percent of their teams."&nbsp;

The decision brings the NFL into line with other US professional sports leagues, as well as some of the world's biggest soccer teams.

Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League allow up to 30 percent of teams to be&nbsp;owned by investment firms.

Sixth Street has already invested in Spanish giants Real Madrid's new stadium and also owns a stake in the NBA's San Antonio Spurs.

<h2>No decision-making power</h2>

Another of the approved NFL investors, Dynasty Equity, owns a stake in English football giants Liverpool.

Goodell emphasized that private equity firms investing in the NFL would have no say in how teams operated or how the league was run.

"They will not be in any kind of decision-making influence in any way," Goodell said.

US reports have said the NFL will not allow sovereign wealth funds -- such as Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund worth around $925 million -- to invest in its teams.

Goodell said allowing private equity investment would positively benefit the league.

"It's an access to capital that I think has been of interest to us for a long time. Other leagues are doing it. And we're doing it with a cap of 10 percent -- so a much less significant position," Goodell said.&nbsp;

"But I think it's an appropriate thing to give the teams that liquidity to reinvest in the game and to their teams. It's a positive development for us."

NFL teams are some of the most valuable sports franchises in the world, with the Dallas Cowboys worth an estimated $10 billion, according to the Sportico sports business news website.

The value of NFL teams reflects the league's dominance of the US sporting landscape, where it remains by far the most watched professional league in the United States.

In 2021, the league signed an astonishing $110 billion media rights deal spanning 11 years -- almost double the value of its previous media deal.

According to Statista, 93 of the top 100 most-watched US television broadcasts in 2023 were NFL games.

National Football League (NFL) players Tyreek Hill, Antonio Brown and Harrison Butker have reacted to former USA president Donald Trump's assassination attempt.&nbsp;

Trump was shot at during an election campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday (Jul 13). The bullet hit former POTUS's right ear and he was immediately taken to safety by US Secret Service.

Reacting to the news, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Butker wrote on social media platform X: "Pray for our country."

Brown, who last played in NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, was bolder in his statement.&nbsp;

"It's over - Trump 2024," wrote the wide receiver in reference to the possible result of upcoming US Presidential elections.

Miami Dolphins WR Hill, on the other hand, took a different take on the despicable incident and wrote: "Waiting on someone to post a Simpson clip saying they predicted it."

Trump, the Republican hopeful for a second term in the White House, reacted to the incident by asking people to 'fear not.'

"We will fear not, but instead remain resilient in our faith and defiant in the face of wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families," wrote the former president on social media platform Truth on Sunday (Jul 14).

"We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed," he added.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the premier US agency, identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a registered Republican as per the state voter records.

A semiautomatic refile was recovered from Crooks who took the shot 140 metres away from Trump's stage. Two people apart from Trump were injured in the incident while one died.

The Secret Service, meanwhile, denied accusations of refusing additional security to Trump. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi refuted the claims on X and said "added protective resources and technology and capabilities as part of the increased campaign travel tempo."&nbsp;

The National Football League (NFL) has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton for eight weeks on Monday (Jul 8). The suspension comes after Sutton was accused of domestic violence in March earlier this year.

Sutton was with the Detroit Lions at the time of the accusation against him. He played just one game with the Lions in the 2023 season.

Sutton was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers on March 21 after the case was registered against him.

A warrant was issued against him on March 7 but the police were unable to track him down. He eventually surrendered in Tampa, Florida on March 31. After facing a felony charge initially, it was converted to a misdemeanour.

As per the police affidavit reported by the Tampa Bay Times, Sutton&nbsp;assaulted the mother of his three children on March 7 at 4:45 am (local time). The CB&nbsp;allegedly picked the woman up and slammed her into the wall before further causing bodily harm.

“After reviewing the evidence, it was appropriate for our office to move forward on misdemeanor domestic battery charges,” Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office spokesperson Erin Maloney wrote in an email to the Times.

When he joined the Steelers back in June, Sutton declined to comment on the legal proceedings of his case.

"My job is to be the best version of myself and how do I give that off to the mass or how do I give that off to everyone around me?" Sutton told reporters on June 5 as reported by ESPN. "I'm in full control of that."

"So, I'm never worried about a narrative. I'm never worried about what necessarily people say, because obviously, more than likely, they don't know me more than anybody else...Everybody goes through adversity. Everybody goes through things in their life that can change in both directions. So, it's all about how you stand on that and what you do from that," he added.

The CB will be available for league reinstatement on October 29 ahead of the Steelers' Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has been arrested once again by Tuscaloosa police in USA on Sunday (June 16), shows the sheriff's office record.

This is the fourth time Buggs has been arrested since April this year. The charges on Buggs this time are second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary. He was held on a $5,000 bond. The rest details of the arrest aren't clear yet.

Prior to this, Buggs had turned himself in on May 30 on two counts of second-degree animal cruelty but was released after posting a bond.

The case included two dogs being left alone a property rented by Buggs after the NFL player vacated the premises. The police responded to a call made by a neighbour and seized the dogs on March 28. Buggs had left the property on March 19.

Records shows that a gray pit bull and black Rottweiler mix were left on the property without access to food or water. The pit bull had to be euthanized later due to increased 'aggressiveness' and failed heartworm treatment.

A termination notice was also sent to Buggs for more than $3,000 in back rent for the same property on April 15.

The other two arrests came on April 14 and 23. In the first case, Buggs was accused of shoving a policeman at his business Kings Hookah Bar. In April 23 incident, Buggs and his brother Detarion were accused of pointing a handgun at a woman at the same hookah bar.

Buggs was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 NFL draft in Round 6 as 192nd overall pick. He played three seasons with the Steelers before moving to Detroit.

He stayed almost two seasons with the Lions before joining the Chiefs practice squad in January earlier this year ahead of their second consecutive Super Bowl win.

Loa Angeles Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett is back after missing the entire last season. The Rams had put Bennett on the reserve/non-football illness list three days after their first game of the 2023 season.&nbsp;

Bennett, however, hasn't given any details about the reason behind his time off but said that it falls under the ambit of mental health. Bennett made the comments on Tuesday (May 28) after the practice.

Rams coach Sean McVay was also asked the same but he denied giving an explanation and said to a reporter: "I understand you have a job to do, but there are certain things that are a lot bigger and more important."

Bennett was selected by the Rams in 2023 NFL Draft in fourth-round as a backup quarterback. He had come out from Georgia, winning two back-to-back National Championships.

Rams general manager Les Snead hinted that Bennett took the time off to 'recover' from the exhaustion.

“I know this: Last year was very beneficial for him. I think he took advantage of that year away from the game,” Snead said wire the Rams Wire.&nbsp;

“You know what, he’s an exhausted human being based on everything he had done to walk on, to go to JUCO, to come back, to turn down small schools, say, ‘I’m going to try to do this Georgia thing.’ To win a job, then to win the thing, and then to determine, ‘I’m going to come back.’ And when you come back, it’s really win it again or you failed. And that does take a toll on a human being, so I was jacked for Stetson to be able to take that moment and breathe a little bit,” he added.

Bennett is now back but he might have to earn the backup duties with both Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo in the roaster.

Rams general manager Les Snead hinted that Bennett took the time off to 'recover' from the exhaustion. “I know this: Last year was very beneficial for him. I think he took advantage of that year away from the game,” Snead said wire the Rams Wire.

LA Rams QB Stetson Bennett reveals reason behind his absence last season

Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady says that Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love had the best training before taking over the starting QB role. Love had spent three seasons on the bench while Aaron Rodgers played ahead of him.

It was in his fourth year in 2023 season that Love, who threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns in last season, became the starting quarterback at Green Bay. By then Rodgers had also left to be a New York Jet.&nbsp;

Brady, while speaking on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, approved of the wait Love had to do before coming of age at Green Bay.

"He had Aaron Rodgers to watch. That's the best type of training, in my opinion. Watch someone else do it at a very high level and then try to emulate them with your own personality," Brady said.&nbsp;

"Maybe a little bit of a misnomer with the draft is that these players can come in and all of the sudden become this great professional player before they've really had the training and the development," he added.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner also acknowledged that he was lucky to be the study of Drew Bledsoe in his rookie year in the league.

Brady had famously replaced Bledsoe after an injury to the latter and went on to become the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) QB to ever play the game.

Brady played for 23 seasons in the NFL out of which 20 came for the New England Patriots and the last three came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady started in 335 career games in regular season, throwing a record 89,214 yards in 12,050 attempts to go with 649 touchdowns as well.

As for Love, the first round pick of 2020 NFL draft has started in 27 games so far, throwing 4,765 yards in 662 attempts along with 35 touchdowns.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has revealed that he has received support as well as 'a shocking level of hate' for his views he shared during a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Butker had taken aim at various things ranging from pride month, women education and president Joe Biden's policies as well.

Butker, while addressing the women at Atchison, had said: "The majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

He also noted that a few of Catholic leaders were "pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America."

Speaking for the first time since the incident, the three-time Super Bowl champions addressed the incident at Regina Caeli Academy's Courage Under Fire gala in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday (May 24).

Butker said: "It is now, over the past few days, my beliefs or what people think I believe have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe," Butker said Friday. "At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate. But as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion."

His views have had different response from players and teammates alike with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes saying: "There's certain things that he said that I don't necessarily agree with, but I understand the person that he is, and he is trying to do whatever he can to lead people in the right direction."

His teammate Travis Kelce, speaking on the podcast with this brother Jason Kelce, said: "When it comes down to his views and what he said at [the] commencement speech, those are his. I can't say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids. And I don't think that I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views, of how to go about life, that's just not who I am."&nbsp;

The suspect, a 16-year-old, was disarmed by the security guard at the event and was taken to the juvenile centre after being arrested. He has been charged with attempted homicide, firing a weapon in a public place, using a firearm during a felony and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor.

He finished the season with 709 yards and seven touchdowns before suffering a broken leg in December against the Denver Broncos.&nbsp;

Since the injury, he has been recovering and Houston coach DeMeco Ryans said last month that he has been participating in offseason activities.

Atlanta Falcons' new head coach Raheem Morris has assured quarterback Kirk Cousins of his position in the upcoming season as the number one quarterback of the team. The comments came after the Falcons picked quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as eighth overall pick in the NFL Draft 2024, sending shockwaves to the football world.

Speaking at the franchise's post-draft press-conference, Morris, who replaced Arthur Smith in January earlier this year, said: "We came up with a decision, this is what we plan to do. And Kirk does not have to look over his shoulder every time he throws a bad pass. Like, that is not the case."

"So, I know I'm going to have to tell you guys once or twice that that is not the case. Like, we are here to go win, and we are here to go win it all. We are here to win as much as we can win," he added.

Cousins was roped in by the Falcons last month in free agency in a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million in guarantees. The QB's agent, however, told ESPN after the Falcons picked Penix Jr. that the decision left Cousins shocked and confusing.

“Yes, it was a big surprise. We had no idea this was coming. The truth is the whole league had no idea this was coming. We got no heads up. Kirk got a call from the Falcons when they were on the clock. That was the first we heard. It never came up in any conversation,” Cousins' &nbsp;agent Mike McCartney had said.

The Falcons head coach said that 'he'd hate it to be the story of the draft' and added: "I know it will be. That's just how our world is based and is driven, but I can't say it's annoying. Like, that is not the case." Also Read: Draft 2024: Kirk Cousins 'disappointed and shocked' after Falcons pick QB in first-round "So, I know I'm going to have to tell you guys once or twice that that is not the case. It never came up in any conversation,” Cousins' agent Mike McCartney had said. The Falcons head coach said that 'he'd hate it to be the story of the draft' and added: "I know it will be. That's just how our world is based and is driven, but I can't say it's annoying. No. Because it's what people want to see; it's piqued more interest. What's [Travis] Kelce's girlfriend's name? I feel like her right now. I'm Taylor Swift and Terry is Kelce, I guess."

Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris assures QB Kirk Cousins after shock pick in 2024 draft

Kirk Cousins has been left in shock by the Atlanta Falcons' &nbsp;decision to pick a quarterback in the NFL Draft 2024 on Thursday (Apr 25). The Falcons picked Michael Penix Jr. for the eighth overall pick, leaving Cousins' future with the franchise uncertain. This comes after Cousins left the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason to go to Atlanta on a four-year, $180 million deal.

Cousins was with the Vikings for six seasons before he decided to switch the sides to start afresh. The current scenario, however, doesn't look too positive for Cousins to spend four years with the Falcons.

Reacting to the news, Mike McCartney, Cousins' agent, said expressed shock on behalf of the QB and told NFL Network: “Yes, it was a big surprise. We had no idea this was coming. The truth is the whole league had no idea this was coming. We got no heads up. Kirk got a call from the Falcons when they were on the clock. That was the first we heard. Another reporter, Dianna Russini of The Athletic, posted on X: "The Falcons called Kirk Cousins when they were on the clock to let him know. From what I learned, Cousins understood a QB would be considered but he did not believe his successor would be taken in the first round. I’m told he’s a bit stunned."

Cousins thankfully has a no-trade clause in his contract with $100 million guaranteed. It would be interesting to see now that how the Falcons create an opportunity for Penix after blindsiding Cousins.

Talking about the new recruit, Penix had played for the Indiana Hossiers from 2018-2021 before spending last two seasons with the Washington Huskies. Penix registered a complete pass percentage of 65 while at Washington to go with 31 and 36 touchdowns in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

OJ Simpson is no more,&nbsp;his family said in a statement released Thursday (April 11). The former NFL football player's family confirmed the development that he passed away on April 10, succumbing to his fight with cancer.

His family shared in a posting on his social media accounts, "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."

Simpson, the American football star and actor, had a fabulous run in the NFL before his life turned upside down when he was caught in an explosive trial over the brutal murders of his former wife and her&nbsp;male friend.&nbsp;Nonetheless, he was pardoned jail time after being&nbsp;found not guilty of the 1994 stabbing deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles.&nbsp;

However, after being convicted in 2008 on 12 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel, at gunpoint, Simpson&nbsp;eventually ended up spending&nbsp;nine years in a Nevada prison.

Apart from his controversial life, Simpson -- dubbed "The Juice" -- was a gun player and one of the top athletes of the late 1960s-1970s. In 1973, he had an unbelievable season and did what no other NFL running back managed to pull off back then.

<h2>1973 - An unbelievable run for OJ Simpson</h2>

Simpson played as a running back for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers. He was known for his speed and agility. In fact, he is one of the few athletes who were hyped for stardom both on and off the sports stage.&nbsp;

While Simpson never won or even played in a&nbsp;Super Bowl, 1973 was a breakthrough season for him. Simpson kicked off the season against New England by showcasing his immaculate darting speed in a 250-yard performance (on 29 carries). It was a single-game rushing record at that time.

In addition, Simpson cracked 2,000 yards in the final contest of a 14-game regular season. His overall tally of 2,003 yards saw him surpass the record of 1,863 -- set by Brown in 1963. Notably, the&nbsp;record was untouched till 1984 (when the Rams’ Eric Dickerson rushed for 2,105 yards in as many as 16 games). At present, Simpson’s 1973 season now ranks eighth all-time.

On the day of setting the record, in 1973, Simpson&nbsp;felt like he was "floating". He stated, as per a report in the Washington Post, "I was in the locker room all by myself right before the game ended. I started walking around thinking how I couldn’t wish to do anything more or be anyone else. I was part of the history of the game. If I did nothing else in my life, I’d made my mark.”

Simpson had set the bar very high following his 1973 blitz. Thus, he could also not replicate his feat going ahead but he ran&nbsp;for more than 1,000 yards each of the next three — leading the NFL twice.&nbsp;He was still miles away from his competitors as his&nbsp;7,699 rushing yards over that remarkable span from 1972-76 led running backs by a considerable margin. Such was his dominance that&nbsp;no other player was within 2,500 yards.

In 1977, Simpson left the Bills to join the Francisco 49ers. For his new team, he could never enjoy the same success. As a result, he&nbsp;gained just over 1,000 yards combined in the 1978 and 1979 seasons. In 1979, he called it quits and&nbsp;ended his glittering career with 11,236 rushing yards, 2,142 receiving yards and 990 kick return yards in 135 matches.&nbsp;

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the third time in five years on Sunday (Feb 11) and their quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) each time. He's now tied with Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana for second-most Super Bowl MVP awards and two behind legendary Tom Brady's five. With the Super Bowl 2024 win, the Chiefs have all but ensured the start of their dynasty if they were not already and Mahomes has played a huge role in it.

The QB landed in Kansas City in 2017 and has been their leader since 2018. He helped the franchise win its first Super Bowl in their history in 2020 - his third year in the league and still with a rookie contract. The Chiefs were there again in the next year but Mahomes lost to the man he's becoming heir apparent of - Tom Brady.

After a gap in 2021, the Chiefs were at it again and like how. They became the only the eighth team in National Football League (NFL) to achieve a repeat by winning Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024 and the first since New England Patriots did it in 2004 and 2005.&nbsp;

In all the Super Bowl wins for the Chiefs, Mahomes has not only been the MVP but has led his team from behind to victory - a trait very well associated with the greats of the game.&nbsp;

On Sunday, the Chiefs were down by three points at 16-19 with 1:53 left in the regulation time. Any other QB with same experience as Mahomes in the league would have felt the extra pressure but the Chiefs leader showed his class and ability to rise up when needed. The QB led an 11-play, 64-yard drive which ended in a field goal and the game was sent to the overtime.

In OT, Mahomes led another drive, this time of 75-yard and converted it into a history-making &amp; game-winning touchdown for the Chiefs.&nbsp;

"It means a ton," said Mahomes after the game. "With the adversity we dealt with this year and to come through, the guys never faltered," he added.

The reason his guys did not falter is because they knew Chief Mahomes will be able to bring them ahead if they just kept at it with him like it had happened in 2020 and 2023.

In Super Bowl 2020, they had faced the same opposition as in 2024 - the San Francisco 49ers. At the end of the third quarter, the Chiefs were down 20-10 in 2020 before Mahomes threw two TD passes in the final quarter and winning them their first Lombardi.

In 2023, Jalen Hurts was on song for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs were trailing 24-14 by the end of Q2 &amp; 27-21 by the time last 15 minutes started. Mahomes once again threw two TDs in the Q4 to take their team home for the second time in four years.

Come this Sunday, the points were at a premium and the Chiefs were down seven points at the half-time. Mahomes changed the game with a touchdown and before he conjured the magical drive in the OT.

The QB, however, wants more and said after the game: "We're not done," he said. "We've got a young team. We're going to keep this thing going."

All of these heroics definitely put Mahomes in contention to be the latest quarterback to become one of the greats of the game like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. And, if his three Super Bowl rings aren't enough, his numbers sure don't lie.

Ever since making his debut in 2017, Mahomes has played 96 games in the NFL. He has completed 2,386 of his 3,590 passes at a completion percentage of 66.5. He has managed to pass the ball for 28,424 yards in 96 games already, averaging 7.9 yard per pass to go with 219 touchdowns. All of this is in regular season!

As for the post-season, he becomes even more dangerous with two 1000-plus passing yards seasons that too in last three years. In 2021, he threw for 1,057 yards in three post-season games while managed 1,051 in four games this season. Overall, he has played in 18 post-season games and managed 5,135 passing yards along with 41 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.

The QB, however, still shares the credit with the teammates and said on Sunday: "I'm just proud of the guys. They kept believing. And I'm proud of the coaches for calling up those plays that got us some touchdowns there at the end."

While it is early to tag Mahomes as one the greats of the game, he surely is playing like one and if he manages to do so for about three or four more years, he'll definitely put up his name alongside the likes of Montana, Brady and Rodgers.

On Sunday (Feb 11), the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22&nbsp;to win the Super Bowl LVIII in overtime at the iconic Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. This became the Chiefs' second consecutive Super Bowl victory - the first such instance in the National Football League (NFL) since the New England Patriots completed a double&nbsp;in 2004&nbsp;and 2005.&nbsp;

The Chiefs have been on a roll since their maiden Super Bowl win in 2020. Now, they have added two more to their tally in back-to-back seasons. Thus, the franchise is on the verge to being qualified as a dynasty, i.e. a sports franchise which has a prolonged run of successful seasons. Much of the Chiefs' rise is linked with Patrick Mahomes being part of their camp.&nbsp;

Mahomes became a part of the Chiefs in 2017. He spent his rookie season serving as the backup to Alex Smith. In 2018, he was named the starter&nbsp;after the Chiefs traded Smith to the Washington Redskins. Since then, the youngster has risen to the occasion and changed the Chiefs' fortunes with his on-field heroics.&nbsp;He has a total of 5,135 yards and 41 touchdowns in postseason since 2017. In addition, the quarterback&nbsp;has&nbsp;won the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award&nbsp;thrice since 2020 (winning it twice in a row in 2023, 2024). Notably, he has ended as the Super Bowl MVP every time the Chiefs have won (in 2020, 2023, 2024).

Mahomes' proactive and aggressive approach has changed the dynamics of the Chiefs. In the Super Bowl face-off versus the 49ers, on Sunday,&nbsp;the quarterback&nbsp;completed 26 of 38 passes for 291 yards along with&nbsp;one touchdown throw and one interception.&nbsp;He once again changed the complexion of the game with his moves and energy in overtime (where he scored a winning touchdown on a 75-yard drive). Thus, the Chiefs -- who had no Super Bowl title before Mahomes' addition -- are now slowly and steadily cementing its status as the latest NFL dynasty.&nbsp;

<h2>Is it a dynasty?</h2>

After back-to-back Super Bowl wins, head coach Andy Reid said, "I got asked so many times it is a dynasty? I don’t know what a dynasty is. But it’s a great win because I know hard it is to do, and then how hard the season was, the ups and downs of the season, and how proud I am of the guys for hanging with each other, staying positive with each other. They’re passionate players and I love that."

Every young team needs characters who can express themselves freely on the field. It helps in putting up staggering performances and their confidence and energy rubs on their teammates. Mahomes is that character for the Chiefs who has just started, he has miles to go before he stops. Similarly, the Chiefs have just begun. They still have plenty to achieve before being tagged as an NFL dynasty.

At one point, the Chiefs were not even sure of making it to the Super Bowl this season after an ordinary start. However, they stuck together as a group and the belief never went down. Thus, credit goes to the entire unit as they have championship DNA within. However, it is safe to say that Mahomes' presence has done them a world of good and the 28-year-old is already a leader of the pack. Much to the dismay of the other teams, he is hungry for more. Surely, the quarterback won't opt for a halt before making the Chiefs a dynasty in the league.

San Francisco head coach Shanahan, meanwhile, is aiming to end his long wait to finally get his hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy in his third Super Bowl.

As well as the loss to Kansas City in 2020, Shanahan was the offensive coordinator when the Atlanta Falcons blew a 28-3 lead in the 2017 Super Bowl before losing to New England.

Shanahan insists, however, he is only thinking about the here and now rather than the narrative surrounding him as a Super Bowl nearly man.

"Narrative, good or bad, is just a narrative," Shanahan said as Sunday's game neared. "I just don't want regrets. I just want to do everything that makes sense to myself, that makes sense for our team."

"Our guys are ready to go," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "They're relaxed." Sunday's game is a repeat of the 2020 Super Bowl, when Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led a stirring fourth-quarter comeback with 21 unanswered points to beat San Francisco 31-20. The 49ers, meanwhile, are chasing a sixth Super Bowl and their first since 1994-1995. San Francisco emerged from the regular season with the best record in the NFC but survived nerve-shredding playoff games against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions to book their ticket to Las Vegas.

The NFL will stage its first ever regular season game in Spain during the 2025 season with a fixture at Real Madrid's newly refurbished Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as the league continues its expansion into overseas markets, officials confirmed on Friday.

Days after confirming the NFL will host a game in Brazil next season, the league announced that the Bernabeu will be the venue for a Spanish fixture next year.

"Playing a game in Madrid in 2025&nbsp;highlights the continued expansion of the league's global footprint and&nbsp;the&nbsp;accelerated ambitions to take our game to more fans around the world,"&nbsp;said&nbsp;NFL Commissioner&nbsp;Roger&nbsp;Goodell in a statement.

"We are proud to partner&nbsp;with&nbsp;Real Madrid&nbsp;C.F., a global brand, together with the City of Madrid and&nbsp;Comunidad&nbsp;de&nbsp;Madrid,&nbsp;to bring&nbsp;a spectacular&nbsp;regular season game to&nbsp;Spain&nbsp;at the world-class&nbsp;Santiago Bernabeu Stadium," he added.

Fifty regular season NFL games have been played internationally through the league's history, with London, Munich, Frankfurt, Mexico City and Toronto all hosting games to date.

Sao Paulo, Brazil, will stage a game in 2024 at the Corinthians Arena — home to Brazilian football team Corinthians — the first NFL game in South America.

The iconic Bernabeu has undergone a significant redevelopment and now has a retractable roof.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez hailed the move as a win for both his club and the NFL.

"The National Football League's arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu is a major event in sport history. This strategic alliance between Real Madrid and an organization of the NFL's prestige will boost our brands globally. It will be enthusiastically welcomed by millions of people on all continents, and it is an honor to embark on this journey together."

The announcement came ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl in Las Vegas between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

NFL officials said Spain was home to some 13 million NFL fans, noting that "fan passion" in the country had influenced the 2025 decision.

"We're committed to Spain for the long term," NFL International executive vice president Peter O'Reilly said. "There's 13 million NFL fans in Spain so you know there is a pent-up demand and you have the fan base."

O'Reilly said France was among new markets the NFL was looking at for future international games, but said there was "nothing imminent" in terms of taking the sport further afield to Asia and Australia.

The expansion of overseas games follows a decision taken by NFL clubs to increase international fixtures from four to eight games per season from 2025.

O'Reilly said international fixtures -- rather than the long-discussed possibility of basing a team permanently overseas -- was the NFL's preferred route.

"That is something that is certainly not imminent," O'Reilly said of an overseas franchise. "The structure of the league with 32 clubs is working well. Our focus at the moment right now is around what we can learn from the increase of international games each year.&nbsp;

"I'm sure there are interested markets around the world, but our focus on the moment is our expansion of our game inventory, and creating the opportunity of bringing our game to more fans, and not necessarily on team expansion."

Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu to hold NFL game in 2025 season

Whether he wins or loses in Sunday's Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes is already well on his way to NFL immortality. Merely by reaching his fourth Super Bowl, the gifted Kansas City Chiefs star is already on pace to surpass the achievements of the greatest quarterback in the sport's history. Still only 28, Mahomes is two years younger than Tom Brady was when he played in his fourth Super Bowl in 2007.

A victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday would see Mahomes join Brady and Troy Aikman as the only quarterbacks to win three Super Bowls before their 30th birthdays. If Mahomes ends up hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy for a third time this weekend, the idea of him one day matching or beating Brady's record tally of seven Super Bowl titles might not seem so fanciful.

Typically, the down-to-earth Mahomes, bats away comparisons with Brady, who put the pretender to his throne firmly in his place three years ago by leading Tampa Bay to victory over the Chiefs in Super Bowl 55. "Tom got like seven super bowls, every single record in the book," Mahomes said.&nbsp; "All I can do is be the best Patrick Mahomes I can be every single day, and that's what I'll continue to do."

Mahomes does hope to emulate Brady's freakish longevity, however. The former New England and Tampa Bay star retired at 45 after 23 seasons. "I want to play as long as they'll let me play," Mahomes says. "Fifteen (more) years seems like a long time but Brady did it and some other guys have done it so I'm going to try to strive to see if I can do it as well."

Anyone paying attention to Mahomes' career trajectory would not be surprised if he manages that ambitious goal. "The one thing about Pat is his competitiveness -- he's never satisfied with where he is," says Mahomes's close friend and teammate Travis Kelce.&nbsp;

<h2>- Courage under fire -</h2>

Selected by the Chiefs with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes's career took off the following year when he was promoted to starter. A remarkable season saw him finish with 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, only the second quarterback in history to post those numbers after Peyton Manning.

That stellar year, which culminated in a Most Valuable Player award, also made him one of only eight quarterbacks to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season. Blessed with natural athletic ability -- he is the son former Major League Baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes -- Mahomes believes his howitzer arm strength stems from playing baseball in his youth.

Yet it is his temperament and ability to thrive in adversity, as much as his sumptuous range of skills, that has set Mahomes apart through his career to date. In both of his previous Super Bowl wins, Mahomes led the Chiefs to come-from-behind victories, recovering from double-digit deficits to beat the 49ers in 2020 and the Philadelphia Eagles last year.

That sort of courage under fire was in full display this season, when Mahomes led the Chiefs in back-to-back road wins against Buffalo and Baltimore to advance to Sunday's Super Bowl. Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive co-ordinator Eric Bieniemy said Mahomes relishes the opportunity to dig his team out of trouble.&nbsp;

"Players gravitate towards him," Bieniemy said. "He's not afraid to tell guys 'Hey, get on my back, I'm going to take you to the Promised Land.'&nbsp;That's the thing that stands out more than anything -- his willingness to make himself vulnerable. The kid has a beautiful mind."

Kelce echoed those sentiments. "He's the reason why we're here and why we're able to keep coming back," the Chiefs tight end said this week. "He just gives his team a certain sense of urgency and confidence that we can go and get it. He's a once-in-a-lifetime player, man. And when you put that guy on a team, he makes everybody better."

Mahomes, meanwhile, says he is driven by a desire to make the most of his talent. "I don't want to look back at my career and say I regret how I performed every single day," he said. "If I give everything I have I can be satisfied with the results and that's what drives me every single day."&nbsp;

A win on Sunday would arguably be the Chiefs' most notable win of the Mahomes era. The team struggled during the regular season but eventually built momentum before reaching a fourth Super Bowl in five seasons. "To be in the Super Bowl when no one really believed in us -- and no one really did believe in us -- I think it's really cool. "So let's go out there and finish the job."
