Scientists have made an amazing discovery. In an inhospitable valley in the Chilean Patagonia, they have come across the remains of four species of dinosaurs. The fossils which were discovered and transported to a laboratory in 2021, as per researchers, belong to species that have previously not been identified in the area.

Chilean Antarctic Institute (Inach), in collaboration with the University of Chile and the University of Texas, made this discovery on an expedition.

Talking to AFP, Marcelo Leppe, director of Inach, said, "It’s always super exciting in scientific terms to find something that has not previously been discovered or described."

Researchers have also found remains of two bird species, an Enantiornithe, believed to be the most plentiful birds of the Mesozoic era; and Ornithurinae, a group which can be directly linked to present-day birds.

The findings have been published in the Journal of South American Earth Sciences.

As per the findings, the dinosaur species, which includes a megaraptor, inhabited the area at the end of the Cretaceous period, between 66 and 75 million years ago.

Interestingly, the megaraptor belongs to the theropod family, of which the famous T-Rex is also a member. These carnivorous dinosaurs were at the top of the food chain and were equipped with raptor claws, small teeth for tearing their prey, and large upper limbs.

Researchers have also identified two specimens of what could very well be a whole new species of Unenlagiinae, a dinosaur closely related to velociraptors.

As per Jared Amudeo, a researcher with the University of Chile, the Unenlagiinae remains has a "novel evolutionary character, which would indicate that this is a new species of unenlagine or perhaps a representative of a different clade (group)."

Dinosaurs inhabited this planet millions of years ago and in the last 200 or so years, humanity has found much evidence of the mighty beasts. You would think that given that the very first evidence of dinosaurs was found in the early 1600s, we would know almost everything there is to know about them.

However, that's far from the truth: we are still finding surprising and fascinating discoveries that add to our knowledge. For example, a scientist recently spotted an extremely rare find that tells us more about what these beasts ate; this time it's a mammal on the menu.

In the first such find of the 21st century Hans Larsson, a professor of biology at McGill University’s Redpath Museum in Montreal while visiting a museum collection in China, spotted a mammal's foot preserved inside the fossilised guts of a Microraptor zhaoianus.

This is only the 21st known example of a fossilised dinosaur and its last meal. The fossil was discovered in the early 2000s in Liaoning in northeastern China.

The Microraptor zhaoianus was a small, up to three metres long feathered therapod, i.e. a small dinosaur that walked on two legs.

"At first, I couldn’t believe it. There was a tiny rodent-like mammal foot about a centimetre (0.4 inches) long perfectly preserved inside a Microraptor skeleton," said Larsson, as per a CNN report.

He added that finds like these are the only "solid evidence" researchers have about the food consumption of these long-extinct animals and that even these finds are very rare.

What makes the discovery so amazing is that previous fossilised specimens of the species showed proof of them consuming fish, birds and lizards. However, "this new find adds a small mammal to their diet, suggesting these dinosaurs were opportunistic and not picky eaters,” says Larrson.

The research that has been published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology talks of generalist predators like foxes and crows as the stabilisers of today's ecosystems. It adds that the recently uncovered evidence may prove that Microraptor zhaoianus and other dinosaurs from the therapod family, which included the famed Tyrannosaurus rex, may have served a similar function back when the mighty beasts roamed the planet.

More than a year since the Taliban takeover, things seem to be going backward in Afghanistan, despite the promise of change under 'Taliban 2.0'. The living and economic conditions in the South Asian country seem to be deteriorating every day. The life of girls and women has taken a downturn that began with imposing restrictions in the name of "following Islamic principles." Firstly, the Taliban suspended girls from going to schools and colleges, not to go out without a male companion, banned them from working in NGOs, and the list goes on. The Taliban recently banned women from working in malls, or going to a male doctor for treatment of any illness, and ordered closure of all beauty salons in the coming 10 days, reported APA.

The World Health Organisation on Wednesday said that the cough syrups made by the pharmaceutical firm Marion Biotech based in India should not be used for children. The recommendation comes after the syrups were linked to the deaths of 19 children in Uzbekistan. The ministry's analysis further added that syrups were given to children in high doses, either by their parents, who misunderstood it as an anti-cold remedy, or on the advice of pharmacists.

In what has been described as a “senseless death” a 37-year-old mother of three children died in a Canadian emergency room waiting room, after awaiting treatment for about seven hours. Allison Holthoff was rushed to a hospital in the Nova Scotia province on the morning of 31st December as her condition worsened over what was earlier thought to be an upset stomach. Talking to CBS News, her husband, Gunter Holthoff, revealed how he had carried his wife to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Nova Scotia’s Amherst town on his back and how they spent hours waiting in agony before the mother of three died. As per Gunter, they had reached the hospital at around 11 am but they didn’t get to see a doctor till after 6 pm.

Reportedly during the preliminary examination that was conducted after 6 pm, Allison was asked to submit a urine sample, but by then the pain had gotten so bad that she fell to the bathroom floor while trying to prepare the sample. She then had to be assisted by two people.

Soon, her condition deteriorated to the point where she couldn’t even sit in a wheelchair and had to lie down on the floor. As the pain progressed, the woman told her husband that she felt like she was dying and even said, “I think I’m dying. Don’t let me die here”.

As per Daily Mail, she spent hours writhing on the floor as nurses brushed her off.

Towards the end, Allison “descended” screaming into a cardiac arrest and it was discovered that she had been suffering from internal bleeding all along.

In the end, doctors reportedly told Gunter that they could operate to save Allison’s life but that she had less than a one per cent chance of surviving and that even if she does pull through, it won’t be a life worth living.

Disney CEO Bob Iger is on a mission to undo the damage done by his predecessor Bob Chapek. The company is reportedly reworking its pricing policy at the theme parks after loyal fans dubbed it a 'money grab' scheme. According to documents seen by Insider, the parkgoers will now have access to the $104 one-day pass for more than 60 days throughout the year. The one-day pass was usually limited to some school days in winter and Spring but Iger is looking to woo back the customers with lower pricing. "We want to make sure our fans are feeling the love. We're listening to them, and we're trying to adjust," wrote Josh D'Amaro, Disney's head of parks in the memo. "Many of you know that I'm in the parks fairly often, and I listen to you and to our guests about the things that are working, as well as the things that might need some change." The regular ticket, however, will still cost $179. Parkgoers will also have more time to roam in the complex as the park gates will open at 11 AM as opposed to 1 PM. The overnight parking charges have also been down away with, according to the memo. Additionally, the parkgoers in Orlando and Anaheim will no longer be charged for downloading photos of themselves on the rides and meet-and-greets with Disney characters. A Romanian court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed by controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate against his 30-day detention. A Romanian court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed by controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate against his 30-day detention. The court noted that “the possibility of them [Tate and his associates] evading investigations cannot be ignored,” and that they could leave Romania to settle in countries that do not allow extradition. Ramona Bolla, spokesperson of Romania's anti-organised crime agency DIICOT said the prosecutors were now looking to extend Tate's detention period to 180 days. Shortly after the court’s decision, Tate's lawyer Eugen Constantin Vidineac told reporters that there was no evidence to indict his client. "There is not a single piece of evidence to suggest that a crime of rape has been committed." However, according to the prosecutors, six potential victims have been identified so far. The authorities have since seized 15 luxury cars and more than 10 properties owned by Tate. The luxury cars became a focal point after Tate, a couple of days before the arrest started an online feud with Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. On December 27, Tate asked Thunberg to send her email address so that he could send a detailed list of his automobile collection and their respective massive emissions. Allen Weisselberg, a former chief financial officer of the Trump Organisation was sentenced Tuesday to five-months in prison by a Manhattan court after pleading guilty to multiple tax crimes concerning the former president's real estate company. The United Nations recently released figures saying that almost five million children died in 2021 worldwide before their fifth birthday, with 47 per cent of them dying during their first month only. The data was published by the UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation on Tuesday. The data also showed that mortality rates have fallen. According to experts, the majority of deaths could have been prevented with better healthcare. They also said that the deaths among newborns have not reduced since 2017.

The director of the MOMENTUM Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics, Dr Vandana Tripathi said, "Sadly, the 2.3 million newborns who died in the first month of life isn’t a significant reduction from the 2.5 million babies who died in their first month in 2017." She added that the children born in sub-Saharan Africa are 15 times more likely to die than the ones in Europe or North America, Guardian reported.

"We recognise that teens aren’t necessarily as equipped as adults to make decisions about how their online data is used for advertising, particularly when it comes to showing them products available to purchase. An investigation has been launched after a package containing uranium was found at London's Heathrow Airport last month. The deadly material, which is used to make nuclear weapons, was not 'weapon grade' and thus could not be used to manufacture a thermo-nuclear weapon, said the Daily Mail report. AFP reports that the package, which had arrived on an Oman Air passenger jet from Muscat, was discovered during a routine search on December 29.
