Rohit said he never imagined coming this far in his cricket career when he made his debut, let alone thinking about having a stand after him. The Indian skipper, who led the Men in Blue to two different ICC titles in two years, admitted feeling emotional seeing his name on the stands.

His fitness, discipline, and attitude are lacking, and we cannot have different rules for different players."

To cut the pay disparity between those who play domestic cricket and those who feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed that Mumbai players will receive a 100% pay hike from next season onwards. This decision was taken during MCA’s apex council meeting.

As per BCCI’s current paying regime (at Ranji Trophy level) across three slabs, the players with over 40-first-class matches will earn INR 60,000 per day, while those within the 21-40 game bracket will pocket INR 50,000 each day. However, the newcomers and those with less than 20 Ranji caps will earn INR 40,000 per day.

Take the example of a player who has played less than 20 first-class matches in the Ranji Trophy - in case he played all 10&nbsp;games during a season, the player would earn INR 17.2 lakh. However, with the pay hike scheme coming into the picture from the next season onwards, the same player would now earn INR 34.4 lakh. This number would be significant for those placed in the higher brackets.

"We felt that the player should earn more, especially, those who play Ranji Trophy cricket. For us, red-ball cricket matters the most as the Ranji Trophy holds a special place for everyone in Mumbai,” MCA president Amol Kale said.

Crafted by Pramod Kamble, a renowned painter-sculptor from Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra, the statue serves as an honour to the legendary player. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has given a fitting honour to legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar on the eve of the India- Sri Lanka ODI World Cup contest on Wednesday (Nov 1). MCA honoured Sachin with a statue imitating his famous lofted cover drive at the Wankhede Stadium, adjacent to the stand named after the player himself. The honour also means that Tendulkar now has both a pavilion and a statue at the venue having graced the game for more than two decades. It was originally planned to be inaugurated in April on Tendulkar’s 50th birthday, however, that was postponed due to multiple reasons. But Wednesday was the perfect day for inauguration considering both India and Sri Lanka go head-to-head in a repeat of the 2011 ODI World Cup final. India had beaten Sri Lanka in the 2011 edition final while a win on Thursday will see the hosts take the top spot in the league standings. The win will also see India officially qualify for the semifinals of the World Cup with two matches to spare. Rohit Sharma’s men will start the day in second place with 12 points in six matches as South Africa’s win over New Zealand saw them occupy the top spot with same points but a better run rate. The event was attended by Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar, along with officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) such as president Amol Kale, secretary Ajinkya Naik, and other members of the apex council.

MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain, also shared his thoughts on that six, which changed Indian cricket's dynamics forever. Speaking to the media earlier this year, Dhoni said, "To me, it was not the winning moment, it was 15-20 minutes ago when emotionally I was very high. And at the same time, I wanted to get done with it. We knew that we would win this from here, and it was very difficult for us to lose. So yes, you know it was more of a sense of satisfaction, job done, let’s move on from here.” 
 
Talking in detail about the atmosphere at that time at the Wankhede Stadium, Dhoni said,&nbsp;“The best feeling was 15-20 minutes (before the winning moment). We didn’t need a lot of runs, the partnership was well-placed, and there was a lot of dew. And the stadium started to sing Vande Mataram. That atmosphere I feel is very difficult to recreate – maybe in this [upcoming 2023] World Cup, there is a similar scenario, once the stadium, the fans start contributing. You know, it’s a very difficult (atmosphere) one to replicate. But it can only be replicated if the occasion is similar to that (in 2011) and there are like 40, 50 or 60,000 people who are singing."

Meanwhile, the upcoming edition of the Cricket World Cup will be held in India and will get underway on October 5. India will open its campaign against former five-time champions Australia on October 8 in Chennai.

MCA to auction two seats where MS Dhoni's 2011 World Cup-winning six ball landed

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials have been asked to submit a negative COVID-19 report in a bid to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 matches at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Taking strict measures, MCA has asked all MCA apex council members and staff members, even those who have been vaccinated, to produce a negative report to get inside the Wankhede Stadium.

According to a report in ANI, MCA secretary Sanjay Naik has written to all MCA apex council member to submit a negative COVID-19 report to get an entry inside the iconic Wankhede Stadium for IPL 2021 matches.

&nbsp;"As per BCCI's protocol, all the officials who would be attending the IPL 2021 matches at Wankhede Stadium are required to produce a negative report of RT-PCR test conducted within 48 hours of the match day," Naik wrote in his letter.

Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is set to host 10 IPL 2021 matches from April 10-25. The first match at the stadium is set to be played between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.

On Friday, the state of Maharashtra recorded 58,993 new COVID-19 cases, 45,391 recoveries, and 301 deaths. Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 tally hit a record daily high since the outbreak of the pandemic with over 1.45 lakh new infections being reported in a span of 24 hours, taking the cumulative count to 1,32,05,926, according to the Union Health Ministry.
