IPL 2024: Fans to not face any action during MI vs RR game at Wankhede
Contrary to earlier reports of cricket fans facing action, including an arrest if found guilty of booing any player, mainly targeting Mumbai Indians Captain Hardik Pandya, the latest reportsstate no action will be taken against anyone, provided the fans are following the BCCI's protocols, the sources close to MCA revealed.
MI Captain Pandya has been subjected to abuse and trolling by fans in attendance during two contested matches this season, leading to reports of the franchise or the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) taking necessary actions to prevent it.
However, the source said the state association will follow the BCCI’s protocols only, sidelining any reports of potential arrest for booing Pandya or any player.
“No instructions given for this specific game. There have been set guidelines issued by BCCI on spectators’ behaviour in the stadium over the years, and that is the process that we have followed, and we continue to follow the same for all games, whether IPL or domestic cricket,” the source close to the information said.

With Mumbai Indians ready to host Rajasthan Royals in their first home game this season under a new captain on Monday (April 1), all eyes will be on Pandya, who took over the reins from Rohit Sharma ahead of this season.

In the first-of-its-kind trade at this level, MI sold Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to make space for Pandya’s return, who, until last year, was leading Gujarat Titans. Having led the franchise to its maiden title in the first season, Pandya guided the team to the finals in the next one, only to lose to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.
With reports of Pandya wanting a return to MI but at one condition that he wishes to be their captain, the franchise took a brave call of going ahead with it. They appointed Pandya as their new captain ahead of IPL 2024, removing Rohit from the position, which irked the MI fans.
Moreover, ignoring Jasprit Bumrah (Team India’s vice-captain in T20Is) and Suryakumar Yadav for that position added fuel tofire.
MI continues to struggle in IPL 2024
Under Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians are yet to win a game this season. After going down againstGujarat Titans in their season opener by just six runs, Mumbai almost pulled off the highest-successful run-chase in all T20s against SunRisers Hyderabad but lost by 31 runs.
Although they have shown promise, given their talent, MI will need to break the ice and get going in IPL 2024.
