<p>The Indian Express reported on Tuesday (Apr 30), citing the chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), that before a crowd paraded the two women from the Kuki-Zomi group naked and assaulted them, they had sought refuge inside a police Gypsy parked beside the road. However, when they asked the police driver to start the vehicle, he stated there was "no key".</p>

<p>Two other male victims were also in the police Gypsy. According to the chargesheet, all of the police officers present left from the spot as the mob pulled out the victims from the vehicle.</p>

<p>According to the CBI investigation, the incident happened in Churachandpur on May 3. In October, a chargesheet was filed against six people and a juvenile at Guwahati's special court.</p>

<p>The two ladies, one in her 20s and the other in her 40s were forced to walk nude towards a field by a group of men in a video that went viral in July.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“While approaching the police gypsy, the mob again separated the victims…Two (women) victims managed to get inside the police Gypsy. Two policemen along with a driver dressed in plain khaki uniform, were with them inside the police gypsy, and three to four policemen were outside. One male victim requested the policemen to start the vehicle,&nbsp;however,&nbsp;the driver of the police Gypsy replied, ‘there&nbsp;is no key’. They kept on begging the policemen repeatedly to help them and save a man being assaulted by the mob, but the ‘police did not help them’,” the CBI&nbsp;chargesheet reads.</p>

<p>“…The driver of Gypsy suddenly drove and stopped the vehicle near the violent mob of around 1,000 people, and the male victim again requested the police to start the vehicle, but he was asked to keep silent. After some time, one police personnel came and told his colleagues that the man had stopped breathing. On hearing this, the male victim told the woman victim that his father was beaten to death,” it&nbsp;said.</p>

<p>The CBI had opened a case in response to the Manipur government's request and the Centre's notice. The accused have been charged with multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including&nbsp;gangrape, murder, outraging the modesty of a woman, and criminal conspiracy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>All the accused, Huirem Herodash Meitei (32), Arun Khundongbam alias Nanao (31), Ningombam Tomba Singh alias Tomthin (18), Pukhrihongbam Suranjoy Meitei (24), Nameirakpam Kiram Meitei (30), and a juvenile were apprehended by Manipur police, according to the chargesheet.</p>

<p>Notably, Tuesday's incident is not the first time when a senior official has been targeted in the state. Last year, in June, a mob torched&nbsp;Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh's residence at Kongba in the capital city of Imphal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite the presence of nine security escort personnel, five security guards and eight additional guards, the mob power prevailed. Although Singh wasn't at his house, the miscreants managed to inflict significant damage to the property.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The suspects, identified as Phillip Khongsai and Hemokholal Mate, also reportedly possessed a pistol containing two live rounds, a Chinese hand grenade, 10&nbsp;live AK ammunition rounds, and 10&nbsp;detonators, all of which were confiscated, said the police.</p>

<p>The duo have been accused of killing Senior Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chingtham Anand in October last year. The two had allegedly fired at security personnel vehicles after which the police chased and overpowered them.</p>

<p>“The nearest security forces were about 10 km away from this place. Once our forces moved in and reached the place, they found 13 bodies in the Leithu village. The forces did not find any weapons next to the bodies,” an officer was quoted as saying by the publication.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The authorities are yet to confirm the identities&nbsp;of the deceased but according to reports, the dead are not from the Leithu area. They could have come from another area and engaged in gunfight with a separate group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rise in violence comes a day after the government lifted the ban on mobile and internet services after seven months except in border areas of some tense districts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Security forces in India’s northeastern state of Manipur arrested two militants amid the ongoing hunt for two missing teens.</p>

<p>Both militants are linked to the Kuki Revolutionary Army Unification (KRA-U), a hill-based insurgent group of the state. The police say they are suspected to be involved in the alleged abduction of the missing teens, who remain untraceable since Sunday (Nov 5).</p>

<p>Police have detained them and interrogation is underway to determine the whereabouts of Maibam Avinash and Ningthoujam Anthony, aged 16 and 19, respectively.</p>

<p>Furthermore, security forces have also launched a search and combing operation to nab the remaining culprits.</p>

<p>“In connection with the missing case of 02 (two) boys on 05.11.2023, Manipur police and security forces arrested two cadres of KRA (U) who are highly suspected to be involved in committing the crime. <p>A senior police official said that after being shot at, the SDPO was immediately rushed to a primary health centre in Moreh where he succumbed to the bullet injury.</p>

<p>The incident has prompted an operation in the area to capture the militants.</p>

<p>This comes two weeks after members of several civil society organisations, particularly the ones based in Moreh, demanded the state forces be removed from the border town.</p>

<p>As per news agency PTI reports, the Manipur police, in the last couple of days, have apprehended more than 10 Myanmarese for allegedly stealing items from abandoned residences of Meiteis and for illegally entering into the Indian territory.</p>

<p>To this, Manipur CM N Biren Singh had stated, "This happened when some particular organisations were protesting against the deployment of state police and commandos at Moreh town".</p>

India: Two houses torched in Imphal amid fresh violence in Manipur

<p>India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday (Oct 1) arrested four people and detained two minors&nbsp;in connection with the horrific killing of two Meitei students in the Indian state of Manipur&nbsp;who had gone missing earlier this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh took to social media and said some of the “main culprits” involved in the alleged kidnapping and brutal killing which sparked violent protests in the northeastern state last week&nbsp;have been arrested.</p>

<p>The four adults – two men and two women – along with two girls were detained from Manipur’s Churachandpur.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The arrests come after disturbing images of the abduction and murder of two students in the Indian state surfaced on social media&nbsp;last week, sparking fresh protests on September 25.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The clip purportedly showed the bodies of the two students – Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi – nearly two months after they went missing.</p>

<h2><strong>About those arrested</strong></h2>

<p>According to media reports, the four adult accused are Paominlun Haokip, S Malsawn Haokip, Lhingneichong Baite, and Tinnuphing. Speaking to the press after the arrests, Singh said the accused had been taken to the Indian state of Assam’s Guwahati by a special flight.</p>

<p>The arrests, according to the CM, took place after a joint operation conducted by the CBI, the state police, and security forces in the Churachandpur district’s Henglep area. He said that “some of the main culprits” responsible have been detained and that they would ensure “maximum punishment” for the crime.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I’m pleased to share that some of the main culprits responsible for the abduction and murder of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi have been arrested from Churachandpur today,” said the Manipur CM on X.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When asked about the missing bodies of the two students, Singh said that the “discovery of their bodies will happen after the accused have been interrogated.”</p>

<p>India’s northeastern state which has been witnessing sporadic months-long violence witnessed fresh protests in the state capital Imphal over the alleged kidnapping and killing of two students after the purported images surfaced on social media platforms.</p>

India: Six held for alleged killing of two students in Manipur; four accused flown to Assam

<p>The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday arrested an accused in a case related to a transnational conspiracy by Myanmar and Bangladesh-based leadership of terror outfits to wage war against the Indian government by exploiting the current ethnic unrest in Manipur.</p>

<p>The agency sleuths arrested Seiminlun Gangte in a case the NIA had registered suo moto on July 19 this year. The accused has been brought to Delhi after his arrest and will be produced before the jurisdictional court.</p>

<p>Investigation of the case (RC 24/2023/NIA/DLI) by the NIA revealed that Myanmar and Bangladesh-based militant groups have entered into a conspiracy with a section of militant leaders in India to indulge in incidents of violence with an intention to drive a wedge between different ethnic groups and to wage war against the government of India.</p>

<p>Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh's ancestral house was targeted by a mob on Thursday (Sep 28), but the attempt was foiled by the police who&nbsp;resorted to firing in the air. The house was empty as Singh lives in the official residence in the centre of the state's capital.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As quoted by the news agencies, a police officer told the news agency PTI: "There was an attempt to attack the chief minister's ancestral house at Heingang locality in Imphal. Security forces stopped the mob around 100-150 metres away from the house."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The house was guarded by officials and more barricades were added. In order to reduce the visibility of the protesters, the authorities switched off the electricity connection in the entire area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the early hours of Thursday, a mob vandalised the deputy commissioner's office in Imphal West district and torched two four-wheelers. The protesters also burnt tyres.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The news agencies said that on Wednesday, curfew was re-imposed in the two districts — Imphal East and West — as the security forces tried to avert the violent protests, which saw 65 demonstrators being injured since Tuesday.&nbsp;</p>
