Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola encountered a bizarre incident recently. For the unversed, Guardiola is in Manchester before the premier club leaves for the United States for a pre-season tour where they will lock horns with the Mexican side Club America followed by Bayern Munich prior to a Community Shield face-off with Liverpool on July 30.

Ahead of City's upcoming assignments, Pep was seen having some lone time and enjoying his bicycle ride on the streets of Manchester before an ardent fan of his interrupted him in the most bizarre way possible. The fan chased him for a selfie and recorded the whole incident on a video while on a bike.

The video was uploaded on TikTok where the fan was saying, "Aye Pep, let me get a picture bro! Yo! My man's smokin' off, yo! Aye Pep! Yo, nah nah you man need to see this! Oh my god!"

At first, Guardiola was taken aback and didn't stop. After the fan finally managed to get hold of Pep and stopped him for a picture, the Man City boss wasn't too happy and didn't even entertain his follower's request for a selfie. "Yo Pep! Let me get a picture, why you running off bro, let me get a picture bro!" said the fan. "Let me get a picture, I just want a picture! I just want a picture, yo my g!," the fan told Guardiola after stopping his bike.

A lot is being said and written about Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Manchester United in this Premier League. Thus, with Ronaldo almost certain to shift base from the Red Devils, many are also pinning their hopes on Lionel Messi to exit Paris Saint-Germain and possibly make an entry into the Premier League.

While a lot of Messi's ardent fans are eager to see him in the Premier League, former Manchester City defender Danny Mills doesn't think that such a move is practical in the current scenario. In this regard, he said on talkSport, "Would you take Lionel Messi? He's the greatest footballer I've ever seen, I didn't see [Johan] Cruyff live or [Diego] Maradona. Messi is the best footballer that I've ever seen. I know Ronaldo's numbers are a little better and he's more of a big-game player."

"In terms of being a footballer, Messi is the greatest, but would you take Messi in your team now? Probably not. "I don't think they [the Premier League's top six] would take him. Liverpool? No. Man City? No. Tottenham? No. I don't think they would," he added.

Last year when Messi had become a free agent, many reports had suggested that he had shown interest to join the Man City club, however, he eventuallyb went to PSG. In his maiden season for the French club, the 35-year-old only managed to score 11 goals in what was an under-par run for the Argentinan captain. Recent reports have claimed that PSG is keen on revamping their squad around superstar Kylian Mbappe and the club can release Neymar and Messi. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this.

Thus, Messi would hope to turn the tides and return to his usual best in his second season for PSG, if he remains a part of the club.

LaLiga have filed a complaint to UEFA against Paris St Germain and Manchester City over alleged Financial Fair Play violations, the Spanish professional soccer league announced on Wednesday. The organisation said it would take "further legal action to the European Union, France and Switzerland" justice systems as it understands that "these clubs are continually breaching the current regulations" of financial fair play.
LaLiga said it lodged the complaint against Manchester City to UEFA in April before filing the one against PSG last week.

The Spanish league also said it was "contemplating expanding that complaint" against City due to "new data" that has come to light. Although the statement did not give any specific details, the English champions signed Norway striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund on a contract that reportedly could cost them over 300 million euros ($313 million), including his salary, agent fees and bonuses. LaLiga president Javier Tebas said last month the organisation would take legal action against the French club after Kylian Mbappe snubbed a move to Real Madrid at the 11th hour and renewed his contract with PSG until 2025.
LaLiga reacted angrily to Mbappe`s contract extension, saying PSG`s new offer to Mbappe "attacks the economic stability" of European football.

"It is scandalous that a club like PSG, which last season reported losses of more than 220 million euros ($232.32 million) after accumulating losses of more than 700 million euros in prior seasons ... with a squad cost around 650 million for this season, can close such an agreement," LaLiga said at the time.
After months of negotiations with Real Madrid, France international Mbappe ended up staying with the Ligue 1 champions for a reported annual salary of 50 million euros until 2025.

This is not the first time that LaLiga has filed complaints against "state owned clubs" PSG and Manchester City. PSG is owned by the state-run Qatar Sports Investments, while City is under Abu Dhabi ownership.
In 2017 and 2018, it had also filed complaints against the two clubs over breach of financial fair play rules, leading to sanctions by UEFA. However, City and PSG lodged appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), who ruled in the two clubs` favour, a decision the Spanish league called "strange”.

LaLiga also announced it was "studying different legal options in Switzerland" against PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for "possible conflicts of interest" derived from his different roles running the French club, and his different roles in UEFA, European Club Association (ECA) and BeIN Sports.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Norway striker Erling Haaland from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on a five-year contract, the Premier League champions said on Monday. City did not provide financial details of the deal but German media reported that the total cost of buying Haaland could exceed 300 million euros ($314.22 million), including his salary, agent fees and bonuses. The 21-year-old striker`s value has skyrocketed thanks to his prolific form at Dortmund after joining them from Austrian side Salzburg two years ago.

"I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons," said Haaland, who scored 86 goals in all competitions for Dortmund since his debut in January, 2020. "You can`t help but admire their style of play, it`s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.
"I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here," added the Norwegian who will join City on July 1.

Manchester City claimed their fourth Premier League title in five years after defeating Aston Villa in the final day of the season. The encounter was an absolute nail-bitter as Pep Guardiola’s team came back from 0-2 down to register a brilliant victory at the Etihad Stadium. This was the second consecutive league trophy for City as they finished on 93 points with 99 goals scored in the season.

Liverpool won their game against Wolves 3-1 but it had no impact on the championship scene as they ended on 92 points from 38 matches. Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson scored for the Merseyside giants after Sadio Mane cancelled out the opener from Wolves midfielder Pedro Neto.

However, City slammed three goals in just five minutes to complete a superb comeback in front of their home crowd. Ilkay Gundogan started the onslaught with a well-placed goal followed by a deft touch from Rodri to level the scores and it was Gundogan once again who scored the winner.

Manchester City claim Premier League title with thrilling victory on final day

Manchester City can match the greatness of Alex Ferguson`s Manchester United if they clinch a fourth Premier League title in five seasons with a victory against Aston Villa on Sunday, according to manager Pep Guardiola.

Ferguson`s United sides achieved that feat three times, establishing themselves as the dominant force in English football during the Scot`s 26-year reign.

"Of course, it would be great (to win four in five seasons). When I arrive and people here say the Premier League is really difficult, the toughest one, everyone wins different ones," Guardiola told reporters ahead of the game against Villa.

"Just Sir Alex Ferguson with United could do four in five years," he added. "When this happens, you realise the magnitude of this United (team) in this period and how he they were able to do it many times. We`re close to being a part of that and we have to try to take it."

City must win at home on the final day to secure the title ahead of Liverpool, who trail by a point and face the Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Guardiola already has one eye on next season, with City bringing in striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this month to bolster their squad.

The 21-year-old Norwegian, who scored 29 goals for Dortmund last season, is one of the most exciting talents in Europe but Guardiola warned against expecting the youngster to deliver straight away.

"Especially important is that he is arriving in a new country, new house, making new friends - all these kinds of things he has to adjust to," he said. "(But) I`m pretty sure he adapts well... if it takes weeks - great. If it takes months - great. He hasn`t come here for two, three months, he`s come for many years, I hope."

A look at what's happening in European soccer on Sunday

Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland scored on his last game for the German club as they beat Hertha Berlin 2-1 on Saturday in the season finale, forcing their opponents into a relegation playoff.

Haaland scored with a penalty to level the score at 1-1 with his 86th goal in his 89th match in all competitions since 2020, as Dortmund finished runners'-up to champions Bayern Munich.

The Norwegian will join Manchester City next season in a multi-year deal reportedly worth up to 300 million euros.

Hertha took the lead with an 18th minute penalty, after Ishak Belfodil was brought down in the box and the Algerian stepped up to convert the spot kick himself.

Dortmund, bidding farewell to several players as well as long-time sports director Michael Zorc, took a long time to react.

But Dortmund eventually got a penalty of their own for a hand ball by Marvin Plattenhardt, and Haaland, who also scored on his debut in the Bundesliga, scored on his final appearance for the club to make it all square.

Youssoufa Moukoko's superb low shot in the 84th that went in off the post snatched the three points for the hosts as Hertha finished in 16th following a dramatic stoppage-time winner for VfB Stuttgart over Cologne that lifted them to 15th and safety.

Man City's Kevin de Bruyne replicates 'Erling Haaland celebration' after memorable hat-trick vs Wolves - WATCH

Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Norwegian striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund on July 1, the two clubs announced on Tuesday. "The transfer remains subject to the club finalising terms with the player," City said.

City did not provide financial details of the deal but German media reported that the total cost of buying Haaland in a multi-year deal could exceed 300 million euros ($316.08 million), including his salary, agent fees and bonuses.

Dortmund said once the transfer goes through, the club expects a "positive effect on the key earnings figures for the 2022/2023 financial year" in the range of 35-40 million euros.

The 21-year-old striker`s value has skyrocketed thanks to his prolific form at Dortmund after joining them from the Austrian side Salzburg two years ago. British media reported Haaland had passed his medical on Monday, with Liverpool boss Juergen Klopp saying it was a transfer that will "set new levels" in the Premier League.

Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 games for Dortmund since his debut in January 2020. He was last season`s top scorer in the Champions League as well as the UEFA Nations League. This season he has 21 goals in the Bundesliga from 20 starts, with Dortmund set to finish second in the league behind champions Bayern Munich when the season concludes on Saturday.

But Dortmund failed to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, dropping to the Europa League where they did not make it past the playoffs. City have been in the hunt to replace Sergio Aguero after the Argentine striker -- the club`s all-time top scorer with 254 goals -- moved to Barcelona on a free transfer last year.

Liverpool might be three points behind league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League with three games to go but manager Jurgen Klopp said on Monday he does not believe the title race is done and dusted.

A 1-1 home draw against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend set Liverpool back after City beat Newcastle United and Klopp was asked if he reportedly told his players the title race was over.

"I`m not sure I said that because I think it`s obvious. It`s clear it is not over, whatever happened," Klopp told reporters ahead of Tuesday`s league game away at Aston Villa.

"We have three games to play and my concern is how we can win our three games and I have no say in how City can win theirs. We don`t stop believing, that`s what we do.

"As human beings it`s really cool that we can decide for ourselves how we see it. There are facts but we are allowed to ignore them. I try to help the boys see (the situation) like me."

City boss Pep Guardiola had said "everyone in the country" was supporting Liverpool in the title race but Klopp laughed it off as a manager saying things in the heat of the moment.

"I live in Liverpool. Here a lot of people want us to win the league that`s for sure. But even here it`s probably only 50%," Klopp said.

"As a manager I had this experience recently, we are obviously influenced by the game, the situation.

Klopp confirmed Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino was getting "closer and closer" to a return from a foot injury, adding that it was a challenge to pick a team at the end of a gruelling season.

"But the medical department makes it easier sometimes. We will see," Klopp said. "Bobby Firmino has trained so it is a decision for tomorrow."

Erling Haaland set to join Manchester City, move likely to be completed this week - Report

Manchester City reclaimed top spot in the Premier League with a 5-0 drubbing of Newcastle United that allowed the reigning champions to open up a three-point lead over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling scored twice for the hosts with Aymeric Laporte, Rodri and Phil Foden also on target as they shrugged off the bitter disappointment of their Champions League semi-final defeat by Real Madrid.

Sterling eased any early jitters with a header and Laporte`s tap-in gave City full control before the interval.

Rodri headed City`s third from a corner after the break and Foden swept in his side`s fourth before Sterling struck again in stoppage time as City took emphatic advantage of Liverpool`s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur the previous day.

Newcastle`s Chris Wood spurned a great chance to give his side an early lead but the visitors were no match for City who took an important step towards a fourth title in five seasons.

City have 86 points to Liverpool`s 83 with both sides having three games remaining and City now have a superior goal difference. Pep Guardiola`s side need seven points from their last three games to be guaranteed the title.

Liverpool face Aston Villa on Tuesday with City up against Wolverhampton Wanderers a day later.

"The defeat to Real Madrid was so, so big but football is like this. You have to switch on the focus for the Premier League because it is even more difficult," Rodri said.

"We did brilliant today and we have to keep going. We expect nothing from Liverpool and we have to keep going. We have three finals and have to finish the season like we deserve."

City needed a response after their last-gasp heartbreak in Madrid and Newcastle proved ideal opposition in the sunshine.

Things might have got edgy if Wood had found the net with an early header from Allan Saint-Maximin`s inviting cross but he sent a tame effort straight at City goalkeeper Ederson.

City took the lead in the 19th minute when Ilkay Gundogan clipped a superb ball to the back post for Joao Cancelo to head back across goal for Sterling to nod in.

We have three finals and have to finish the season like we deserve." City needed a response after their last-gasp heartbreak in Madrid and Newcastle proved ideal opposition in the sunshine. Premier League: Manchester City trounce Newcastle United to open up three-point lead

Real Madrid fought back from the brink of elimination to beat Manchester City 3-1 after extra time and 6-5 on aggregate in an enthralling and dramatic Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

City led 1-0 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate when Riyad Mahrez scored after 73 minutes but Real substitute Rodrygo equalised in the last minute of normal time and headed home one minute later to level the tie at 5-5.

Five minutes into extra time Karim Benzema converted a penalty awarded for a foul on him by Ruben Dias and Real, the record 13-times European champion, held the shell-shocked English side at bay to reach the final.

Real will play Liverpool on May 28 in Paris, a repeat of the 2018 final in Kyiv which the Spanish team won 3-1.

It was another superb rearguard action by Real, which came from behind for the third consecutive time in this season Champions League knock-out stage to stay on course to win Europe's most prestigious club competition for the fifth time in the last nine years.

After a breathtaking first leg packed with goals and individual brilliance from both sides, the return game was the complete opposite.

City worked tirelessly to subdue its host which failed to manage a shot on target on the first half.

With Real fast running out of ideas, Bernardo Silva broke through the middle of its defence and laid the ball off for Mahrez to finish and City looked certain to stay on course to win the trophy for the first time.

But as it did against Paris St Germain in the round of 16 and Chelsea in the quarter-finals, Real conjured up the magic it required.

Rodrygo finished from close range to give them a lifeline and the Brazilian headed home moments later to send the Bernabeu crowd into raptures before Benzema completed the turnaround.

Real Madrid rallies past Manchester City to reach UEFA Champions League final

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League standings after thumping Leeds United 4-0 at Elland Road on Saturday, a match in which the champions were made to work harder than the scoreline suggested.

Liverpool had regained top spot earlier in the day with a 1-0 win at Newcastle United, putting pressure on City to respond against a Leeds side battling to avoid relegation this season.

An early goal settled City`s nerves, with Spanish midfielder Rodri glancing a header into the net to give the visitors the lead with 13 minutes on the clock.

Leeds kept the pressure on, with a raucous crowd doing everything in their power to make life difficult for City, but Nathan Ake`s goal in the 54th minute effectively ended any hope the home fans had of getting anything from the match.

Leeds continued to miss chances before City put the game to bed 12 minutes from time as Gabriel Jesus continued his fine form in front of goal with another strike before Fernandinho put the icing on the cake with a stoppage-time fourth.

City`s fourth victory in a row in all competitions sent them back to the top on 83 points from 34 games, one clear of Liverpool, while Leeds slipped to 17th, five points above the drop zone but having played two more games than Everton in 18th.

On paper Leeds looked up against it, taking on a City side who travelled to Yorkshire unbeaten away in the league since a 1-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend, having been thrashed 7-0 in the reverse fixture early in the season.

But with City boss Pep Guardiola making five changes to his side with Wednesday`s Champions League semi-final, second-leg clash at Real Madrid in mind, which they will start with a 4-3 lead, the visitors looked a little disjointed from the off.

After surviving early pressure from the hosts, Rodri timed his run to perfection to get on the end of Ilkay Gundogan`s free-kick and break the deadlock. It was City`s 17th goal from a set piece this term – more than any other Premier League side.

The champions continued to misplace passes to give Leeds plenty of moments of promise, but poor finishing and a wayward final pass meant the home side could not capitalise.

City continued to look nervy after the break but Leeds still lacked that killer instinct with another goal from a corner, this time stabbed home by Ake, punishing the profligate hosts.

Jesus` strike 12 minutes from time - his sixth in his last three games in all competitions - meant City could relax with their return leg at Real to come in midweek, safe in the knowledge they remain the team to catch in the Premier League.

A rare goal from Fernandinho, who drilled the ball home from the edge of the box in added time, completed a perfect afternoon for the reigning champions against a side who will wonder how they came away having been beaten so comprehensively.

Premier League: Manchester City back on top after rampant victory at Leeds

A first-half strike from midfielder Naby Keita helped Liverpool secure a hard-earned 1-0 win at Newcastle United on Saturday as Juergen Klopp`s side kept their Premier League title hopes alive and provisionally went top of the table.

The victory put Liverpool two points ahead of champions Manchester City, who can regain first spot with a win at Leeds United later on Saturday. Newcastle are ninth on 43 points.

"It`s the most difficult of circumstances. A team in form, a crowd waiting for ages for proper success," said Klopp. "Our people were outstanding and Newcastle are obviously a really passionate crowd. Winning here is special."

After an early half-chance for Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool hit the front in the 19th minute through Keita when he cleverly dribbled past Martin Dubravka to slot home following a smart link-up with Diogo Jota.

The goal was met with furious protests by Newcastle players who reckoned James Milner had fouled Fabian Schar in the build-up but the VAR allowed the effort to stand.

Liverpool, with possibly one eye on the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Villarreal on Tuesday, started without Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold but their absence was seldom felt as the visitors were barely troubled in the opening exchanges.

Sadio Mane had a glorious chance to double Liverpool`s lead from a counter-attack but the Senegal forward`s side-footed effort was comfortably kept out by Dubravka, who was called into action again when he tipped over Jota`s 41st-minute header.

With Liverpool dominating possession, Newcastle`s best moment of the half arrived when Miguel Almiron had the ball in the net after being played through by Bruno Guimaraes, only for the Paraguayan to be flagged offside.

"Coming here with five changes and building pretty much a new setup is really difficult, so the performance was absolutely outstanding. I loved it. We controlled the game in so many ways," added Klopp.

"The only plan they had was the long ball to our right side... you can`t really defend them properly because it’s always these long balls. It`s really difficult to get a feeling for the game."

Liverpool had a flurry of chances after the break but failed to beat Dubravka, who twice denied Jota as well as substitute Salah before Luis Diaz hit the side-netting in the 84th minute.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said his side never got going despite the opposition not being at their best.

"We competed well but lacked the quality that could have got us a goal. It is difficult to do it consistently against Liverpool... we were much more aggressive in the second half but did not have any concerted pressure in the game," he said.

Premier League: Liverpool keep pressure on Man City with 1-0 win at Newcastle

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said playmaker Kevin De Bruyne was the best player in his position and the Belgium international was an important member of the Premier League leaders.

De Bruyne has been in scintillating form for City this season, bagging 15 goals and 12 assists in 40 games in all competitions, including seven goals in his last 10 games.

"He`s so important," Guardiola told reporters ahead of Saturday`s league match at Leeds United. "He is the best in the world in this kind of running and transition.

"He can run and break the space for the opponent. It`s devastating. He is really, really good.

"Everyone knows it – this isn`t the first season he`s played in the Premier League."

City are top of the table on 80 points, one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool, with five matches left. Liverpool play away to Newcastle United before City`s match later on Saturday.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praises 'devastating' playmaker Kevin De Bruyne

After one of the greatest of Champions League semi-final clashes, Manchester City will take a 4-3 lead into the second leg of their tie against Real Madrid following an extraordinary encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

A breathtaking and relentlessly fast game, packed with chances, moments of individual brilliance and a smattering of defensive lapses, was a treat for the spectators but leaves City, who had the better of the game, with the slenderest of leads to defend at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday.

"It was a fantastic game for both sides. We did many good things. Unfortunately, we conceded goals and we could not score more. But it is two games and we have another one in one week," said City manager Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool and Villarreal will certainly struggle to match the quality of this game when they meet in the other semi-final at Anfield on Wednesday. City took the lead after 94 seconds, the fastest goal scored in a Champions League semi-final, with Kevin De Bruyne`s superb diving header after Riyad Mahrez made a piercing run at the Real defence, switched inside and then delivered a killer cross.

Guardiola`s side doubled their lead in the 11th minute through the in-form Gabriel Jesus, who scored four goals in the Premier League at the weekend, collecting a pass from De Bruyne and spinning away from David Alaba before drilling home.

It was the first time that 13-times European champions Real had conceded two goals so quickly in the Champions League and another looked on the cards. Reigning Premier League champions City were on fire, running Spanish league leaders Real ragged, but Mahrez and Phil Foden were both unable to convert promising chances.

It was a spell of the game that City may yet look back on as a missed opportunity and as so often Real found a way to get themselves back in a contest that risked running away from them. The goal came via a familiar source, the Champions League`s escape artist Karim Benzema scoring a goal out of nothing as he guided a Ferland Mendy cross into the far, bottom corner with the most delicate of steers after 33 minutes.

Guardiola could be forgiven for wondering how his team`s high-energy, high-quality football had only produced a 2-1 lead at the break but there was a similar pattern in the second half.

City restored a two-goal advantage eight minutes after the restart with veteran Fernandinho, on as a substitute for the injured John Stones, picking out Foden with a perfectly weighted cross which the England international nodded home.

Two minutes later though Fernandinho was caught out as he allowed Brazilian compatriot Vinicius Jr to break away past him on the touchline. The winger sprinted from the halfway line deep into the area before poking the ball past Ederson to make it 3-2 with an outstanding individual effort.

Yet again City found a way through. Real`s defence hesitated after Oleksandr Zinchenko went down on the edge of the box but Bernardo Silva pounced and beat Thibaut Courtois with a superb drive into the top corner in the 74th minute.

There was more drama to come as City`s Aymeric Laporte was penalised when the ball struck his arm in the area, after glancing off his head, and Benzema converted the penalty with a cheeky `Panenka` chip down the middle eight minutes from time.

Still, City searched for more but substitute Raheem Sterling and Ruben Dias were both unable to make contact with a dangerous ball across the box and then Dias slid in again and was just inches away from a deep Mahrez cross.
The score was to remain 4-3 but for those who wished this game could have just gone on and on there is another 90 minutes to look forward to next week.

City, yet to be crowned European champions, were left with the strange feeling of disappointment at `only` beating Real by one goal. Real`s Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti had similar mixed feelings to Guardiola after an entertaining night and left with some regrets but there was a hint of optimism in his analysis.

Karim Benzema scores twice but Real Madrid lose 4-3 against Manchester City in Champions League thriller

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says his team, who face Real Madrid in their Champions League semi-final, first leg on Tuesday, need to put aside the different European pedigrees of the two clubs and draw on their collective strength.

Real have won Europe`s top trophy a record 13 times while City remain in search of their first Champions League title after losing in the final to Chelsea last year.

"If we have to compete with their history, we don`t have a chance. It speaks for itself," said the former Barcelona coach, when reminded of the contrasting records of the two clubs.

"We have the desire to compete against them. For us playing against them is an incredible test and we want to try it. (We will) Suffer when we suffer, (but) stick together. Try to do as best as possible."
