Former Manchester United player turned pundit Roy Keane was not impressed by the performance of Arsenal, following their fourth-round FA Cup exit against Manchester City. “I think Arsenal lost their shape for 10 or 15 minutes with the changes they made. But just before that, there was a lapse. They were having a breather at just the wrong time. There was poor communication from the centre halves to the midfielders," said Keane in a post-match show. “They switched off and that will be a big concern. I expected more from Arsenal tonight but they were disappointing.” Keane also commented on the changes clocked in by manager Mikel Arteta for the match. Keane believed that Arsenal's main goal was to win the Premier League as they looked unbothered about the FA Cup tie. "It was hard to gauge Arsenal tonight because of the team they put out. Looking at the starting line-up you could sense that this was not their priority. They want to get that Premier League title." He added that players, however, were going to be down for the next few days as they did not want to get beaten. "They'll recover and if they go on to win the league, they'll say they had to sacrifice this game, but when you make so many changes particularly defensively, you send the message that you're not that bothered, which is not a good message to send." However, in the second half, City turned up the heat and managed to find the opening goal through a cheeky pass-cum-shot from Nathan Ake. While Arsenal have been dumped out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, they are gunning to win their first Premier League title in over two decades. They currently sit atop the points table with City five pits behind them. Both teams are yet to square off against each other in the league. Their first meeting will take place on February 16 and could very well decide the title race. City will be coming into the contest with the confidence of having bested the Gunners once already. Manchester City fans have come under the scanner for showing a lack of support after they booed the home team off the pitch at half-time during the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

World's top revenue-generating football clubs revealed

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on Friday, while jurors could not reach verdicts on one count of rape and one of attempted rape, British media reported on Friday.

The trial had been taking place at Chester Crown Court since August after 13 women made allegations against Mendy and co-accused Louis Saha Matturie. City issued a statement saying the club had noted the verdict.

Champions Manchester City crashed out of the League Cup after suffering a shock 2-0 defeat at struggling Southampton in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Southampton, bottom of the Premier League table, scored twice in the first half through Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo and City never seriously threatened to get back into the match.

Mara scored his first goal for Southampton in the 23rd minute as he connected well with a whipped cross by Lyanco and the hosts doubled the lead five minutes later when Djenepo spotted City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega off of his line and curled a stunning effort into the top corner. City, who have won the League Cup six times since 2014, failed to register a shot on target as the second-half introduction of substitutes Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland failed to spark a revival for Pep Guardiola's side.

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse told Sky Sports that his side played without fear and praised new manager Nathan Jones. "(It is) a special night. These games are special to play in especially when you're struggling in the league. We knew this was a distraction from the league and a great showcase. We showed no fear. "We have been guilty in the past of having a result at halftime and dropping off. We showed a different part of our game. We thoroughly deserved the win."

City came into the game off the back of a 4-0 demolition of Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday but failed to replicate the free-scoring form. Manager Pep Guardiola named a strong side with Joao Cancelo, Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan and Kalvin Phillips among the starters, yet apart from an early shot dragged wide by Gundogan they made little impression on the game.

It was Grealish who had made the error which led to the hosts' opening goal, giving away possession to Lycano who raced up the wing before providing the cross for Mara. Jones has failed to halt Southampton’s poor Premier League form since taking over in November, but has won all three of his team's games in cup competitions - against Lincoln City, Crystal Palace and now City.

Manchester City bow out of League Cup after shock loss at Southampton

Eddie Nketiah scored twice as Arsenal set up an FA Cup fourth-round clash away to Manchester City after seeing off third-tier Oxford United 3-0 on Monday.

Mohamed Elneny's header opened the floodgates at the Kassam Stadium after the Premier League leaders failed to make the breakthrough for over an hour.

Nketiah then sealed the win by taking his tally to four goals in as many games since the World Cup break.

"We had to up the level as it wasn't good enough from us in the first half and I think we did that in the second," said Nketiah. "It's not the best draw but we're up for it."

Mikel Arteta named a strong side featuring his preferred front three in the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli flanked Nketiah in the attack.

Arsenal were dominant in possession before the break but struggled to create any clear-cut chances and were further frustrated by the decision not to award a penalty for handball when Elliott Moore blocked Albert Sambi Lokonga's effort.

Fabio Vieira was one of those not commonly in Arteta's starting line-up given a chance to shine and the Portuguese made his mark after the break with two assists.

Saka was then replaced after receiving treatment in concerning scenes for Arsenal, but there was some solace in the return of Emile Smith Rowe for the first time since September.

Nketiah added his second of the night with another cheeky finish as he dinked the ball over McGinty from Martinelli's pass 14 minutes from time.

A much tougher test awaits in the next round when the Premier League's top two will go head-to-head at the Etihad on the last weekend of January.

FA Cup: Arsenal brush aside Oxford City to set up a mouth-watering fourth round clash with Manchester City

Defending champions Manchester City beat injury-hit Chelsea 1-0 on Thursday to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to just five points.

Pep Guardiola's men were well below par in the first half but were transformed after the break, with substitutes Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez combining for the only goal, scored by the Algerian in the 63rd minute.

Graham Potter's Chelsea came into the game languishing in 10th place in the table and were expected to face a searching examination from second-placed City.

Chelsea, however, were up against it from the opening minutes, with forward Raheem Sterling forced off after suffering an apparent hamstring injury, replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Potter was also without a string of senior players including Mason Mount, Reece James, Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante.

The game at Stamford Bridge was scrappy in the initial stages, with the visitors dominating possession but creating little of note.

Chelsea were first to threaten, in the 16th minute, but City defender John Stones came to the rescue as Christian Pulisic bore down on goal, producing a perfectly timed sliding tackle to deny the US forward.

Teenager Carney Chukwuemeka, who came on for Pulisic, almost made an instant impact, but his shot was blocked and Hakim Ziyech's effort was saved by City goalkeeper Ederson.

Erling Haaland, who has one more Premier League goal this season (21) than the entire Chelsea side, smashed a shot wide in the 38th minute.

Guardiola brought on Grealish and Mahrez on the hour mark to further freshen up his attack.

Premier League: Manchester City scrape past Chelsea 1-0 to close the gap to leaders Arsenal

Arsenal closed out 2022 with a 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday that gives them a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League after title rivals Manchester City and Newcastle United both dropped points. The Gunners opened up a 3-0 lead through Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Eddie Nketiah but Brighton never gave up, pulling two goals back either side of a Gabriel Martinelli strike to set up a nervous finish for the Gunners, who held on to win.

The victory leaves Arsenal in pole position on 43 points from 16 games with champions City on 36, Newcastle on 34 from 17 and Manchester United on 32 from 16.

Earlier in the day City wasted their chance to increase the pressure on Arsenal, drawing 1-1 at home to struggling Everton despite Erling Haaland's 21st league goal of the season giving them the lead.

Newcastle United also dropped home points as a 0-0 stalemate with Leeds United deprived Eddie Howe's side of a seventh successive league win.

Marcus Rashford gave the perfect response to being left out for disciplinary reasons by scoring Manchester United's winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers that lifted them into the Premier League's top four on Saturday. The in-form Rashford was benched by manager Erik ten Hag after being late for a team meeting but came off the bench to fire home a 76th minute winner at Molineux.

Southampton will end the year rock bottom after conceding late on to lose 2-1 at Fulham -- their fifth successive defeat.

Crystal Palace hit back from a 3-0 home defeat by Fulham on Monday to beat Bournemouth 2-0 away thanks to goals by Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze.

Rashford has been rejuvenated for club and country and after scoring three goals for England at the World Cup has now scored three goals in three games in all competitions since returning. But his day did not start off as planned with manager Ten Hag leaving him out of the starting line-up as punishment for what was a minor disciplinary lapse.

Without him United were struggling to break down a Wolves rearguard with his replacement Alejandro Garnacho wasting the visitors' best chance to break the deadlock. Rashford was sent on at the interval for Garnacho and sealed the points in the 76th minute when he held off Wolves' substitute Jonny before lashing the ball home from close range.

"He was bright, he was lively and he scored a goal to give a good reaction," Ten Hag said. "Everyone has to adhere to the rules and if you react like this, it is the right answer."

When Haaland latched on to Riyad Mahrez's pass to tap home in the 24th minute it looked almost a formality that City would slice Arsenal's lead down to two points.

But Everton, on a three-match losing run in the league, had other ideas and stunned the hosts after the break when Demarai Gray cut inside and unleashed a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area which beat City's goalkeeper Ederson.

Everton moved two points above the drop zone.

Newcastle's Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes wore a yellow shirt with the number 10 on the back during a minute's applause for compatriot Pele who died on Thursday as the Premier League paid tribute to the iconic player.

But he was unable to inspire his side to a victory against a resolute Leeds side who hung on for a point.

"Morocco offered absolutely nothing, without disrespecting them," said Rodri before adding, "In the game, they did nothing. They just waited for the counters. They stayed behind and tried to counter us." Spain, the 2010 edition champions had the lion's share of possession (77 per cent) throughout the match. The LA Roja managed to complete 1,019 passes in the match, compared to a measly 304 by Morocco. Despite keeping the ball for the major part of the game, Spain failed to make any decisive chances as the penalty box threat remained low. Read more: History created! Former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed if not winning the Champions League was a criterion, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola would have been sacked seven-eight times. In an interview with AS, Pochettino was asked about his sacking as the PSG manager, 17 months into the job and despite winning the league with the Parisians. Pochettino hit out at the critics who considered his achievement as 'underwhelming', suggesting if that was the case then managers like Guardiola would have met the same fate. "If [I left] PSG for not winning the Champions League, Guardiola should have already been sacked seven or eight times!" said Pochettino. "They are different realities. Brentford striker Ivan Toney struck twice to give his side a shock 2-1 victory at champions Manchester City on Saturday in their final Premier League game before the World Cup break.

Toney, left out of England's squad for Qatar, made the most of a bright start by Brentford, breaking the deadlock in the 16th minute when Ben Mee headed back across the box and Toney sent a looping header over Ederson and into the net.

City had a strong shout for a penalty turned down for a handball before they equalised on the stroke of halftime when Kevin De Bruyne's corner was flicked on and Phil Foden drilled home a superb half-volley for his eighth league goal of the season.

There was a lengthy stoppage just after the break when Aymeric Laporte, who has been named in Spain's World Cup squad, received treatment after an inadvertent elbow from Ethan Pinnock opened a gash on his forehead.

Foden went close to adding a second in the 71st minute, twisting and sending another half-volley fizzing goalwards, but this time it flew over the bar.

City racked up 29 goalscoring opportunities but only managed six on target as Brentford's defence suffocated their attack and restricted striker Erling Haaland - the only City starter not headed to Qatar - to a couple of half-chances.

That set the stage for Toney's winner as Brentford broke forward deep into second-half stoppage time, and the 26-year-old made no mistake as he fired home to secure a stunning victory.

"Obviously (being left out of the England squad was), a disappointment but I know I'm capable of and I won't let it put me down, I'll just keep going and keep doing well for Brentford," Toney told BT Sport.

"The motivation is the boys in the dressing room, and the fans as you can see. When we work hard, this is what we can do."

Manchester City teenager Rico Lewis marked his first senior start with his maiden goal for the club to spark a comeback in a 3-1 defeat of Sevilla to complete their unbeaten Champions League group campaign on Wednesday. With the prolific Erling Haaland absent as he recovers from injury, Argentine striker Julian Alvarez impressed with a goal and two assists and Riyad Mahrez was also on the scoresheet.

The night, however, belonged to Lewis. His maiden goal also made him the youngest player to score on his first start in CL history, surpassing Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema. City was confirmed as Group G winners and Sevilla was assured of the third spot, and Pep Guardiola made seven changes to his starting line-up with 17-year-old right-back Lewis seizing his opportunity at the Etihad Stadium. Rafa Mir gave Sevilla the lead in the 31st minute with a pinpoint header past City reserve keeper Stefan Ortega and the hosts struggled to make much impression against the Spanish side.

Guardiola took off Jack Grealish at halftime and sent on Rodri and City was a different proposition as they extended their unbeaten home run in the Champions League to 23 games. Lewis, joined in the starting side by 20-year-old Cole Palmer, levelled in the 52nd minute when he ran on to a slide rule pass by Alvarez and lashed a right-footed shot into the net past keeper Yassine Bounou. Lewis, aged 17 years and 346 days, became the youngest player to score on his first Champions League start, breaking the record held by Karim Benzema who was 17 years and 352 days when he scored for Olympique Lyonnais.

"What a goal. He's a fantastic player, so intelligent. He understands everything. He made a fantastic goal and played really well," Guardiola said. "In the first half the guys tried. The second half was better, with really good goals. I'm happy for everyone." Alvarez, who started his fourth successive Champions League game, was arguably City's best player. The 22-year-old former River Plate player produced a composed finish to put City ahead in the 73rd minute, taking the ball around Bounou and firing high into the net after being played in by a sublime pass from substitute Kevin de Bruyne. With City dominating, Mahrez sealed the victory with a clinical finish after another assist by Alvarez.

CL: Rico Lewis surpasses Karim Benzema to achieve a historic feat in Man City's win vs Sevilla

A stunning free kick from Kevin De Bruyne earned Manchester City a 1-0 victory at Leicester City on Saturday, a win that moved the champions back to the top of the Premier League.

With top goalscorer Erling Haaland missing a Premier League game for the first time since arriving at City through injury, the visitors lacked a cutting edge in the first half, with Leicester containing them with ease.

It was clear it would take something special to unlock the determined hosts, with Belgian midfielder De Bruyne stepping up, firing an unstoppable free-kick into the net four minutes after the break to put City in front.

Leicester responded well and has a chance to level through a stunning volley from De Bruyne's Belgium teammate Youri Tielemans, but City goalkeeper Ederson brilliantly tipped the thunderbolt of a strike onto the crossbar.

The hosts kept coming, putting City under plenty of late pressure, but the champions held on to climb back to the top of the standings on 29 points, one clear of Arsenal who play Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Leicester stay 17th.

"The free kick goes perfectly, luckily it's 1-0," De Bruyne told BT Sport. "Ederson has been great, sometimes we only talk about his distribution but he's a great keeper and he proves it every week.

"We have proved we can win with or without Erling Haaland."

Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers could not hide his delight that Haaland, who has 17 league goals from just 11 starts this season, was missing.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sliding on my knees when I heard he (Haaland) wasn't playing," he said pre-match, before seeing his side keep City at bay in the opening period.

The hosts came into the contest on the back of three successive clean sheets, and restricted City to half chances early on. With Bernardo Silva's angled shot well saved, it was the champions' only real opening of note before the break.

There was absolutely nothing anyone could have done to keep De Bruyne's third league goal of the season out, however, as he curled an unstoppable free-kick into the top corner.

"It's not about the assist that Kevin always has, or the free kick. I know he has these qualities, the last few games he was not himself," City boss Pep Guardiola said.

City were comfortable in their lead and never looked in danger of suffering a second league loss of the season.

City have now kept a clean sheet in six of their 12 games this season, which is better than all other Premier League teams.

Premier League: Kevin De Bruyne fires Manchester City to win at Leicester in Erling Haaland's absence

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola joked he wanted striker Erling Haaland to lay off the food and drink during the mid-season break for the World Cup and come back fit to spearhead the club's hunt for trophies in the second half of the season.

Norway's Haaland, who has scored 22 goals in 15 games across all competitions so far, will not be heading to Qatar for the November 20 to December 18 tournament after his country failed to qualify.

"He will be in Marbella or Norway. It depends on how he behaves in Marbella as to how good he is for the second half of the season," Guardiola told reporters on Monday (October 24). "He will play golf, hopefully not eat and drink much and come back fit.

"He is so smart. A part of that is his work ethic. He is one of the first to arrive and one of the last to leave. He looks after his body perfectly. He is well educated in the way he has to live as a professional and he has the intent to get better," Guardiola added.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola warns Erling Haaland to lay off the carbs during World Cup break

Erling Haaland's arrival at Manchester City earlier this summer was always expected to spice up the ongoing Premier League season as the Norweigan striker came with a great reputation and huge expectations. Not many believed he would be able to replicate his Bundesliga heroics in his debut season in one of the world's most difficult leagues.

However, the Norweigan striker has managed to live up to the expectations and has been exceptional so far this season. He has been in red-hot form and has been scoring goals for fun across competitions. Haaland has already bagged 22 goals in 15 games across all competitions, including a stunning 17 goals in 11 games in the Premier League.

Haaland was on target once again as Manchester City thrashed Brighton 3-1 in their last Premier League outing. He has scored three hat-tricks already this season and goals have been coming thick and fast for the 22-year-old who has been touted by many to break the all-time record for most Premier League goals in a season.

Haaland is currently averaging 1.54 goals per game in the Premier League and he can shatter the record for most goals in a season comfortably if he can continue at the same consistency. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola too has backed Haaland to break the record.

"We don't have to be a genius, if he continues in this rhythm, with the average every game, he's going to break the record, definitely. But in football maybe you score and in a few days stop to score. I don't know," said Guardiola when asked if Haaland can shatter the record currently held jointly by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

"I didn't speak with him, I think he's happy when the team wins and not when they lose. All the strikers I have seen in my career, Samuel Eto'o, Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Sergio Aguero, they all have incredible ambition to score goals. It's normal. He has to be like that," he added.

Both Shearer and Cole scored 34 goals each in a Premier League season - which is the most by any striker in the history of the league. Haaland has already reached the halfway mark having scored 17 so far this season and needs 18 more to break the record.

Police have confirmed they have received a complaint of alleged criminal damage to Manchester City's bus following the team's 1-0 Premier League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. An image showed damage to the windscreen of the bus, which City said was caused by an object being thrown from the street. Merseyside Police on Wednesday appealed for further information over the incident.

"We have now received a report of an alleged criminal damage of the Manchester City team coach following the Liverpool and Manchester City game on Sunday, 16 October," the statement said. "The incident of alleged damage to the windscreen was reported to us on Tuesday 18 October, and further enquires are ongoing." Liverpool ignited their Premier League season as Mohamed Salah's late goal earned them a stormy 1-0 win over Manchester City to leave Arsenal four points clear at the top on Sunday.

Salah, fresh from his quickfire hat-trick in midweek against Rangers in the Champions League, latched onto a long clearance by goalkeeper Allison in the 76th minute and fired into the net to inflict a first defeat of the season on champions City.

City, who could have gone 16 points clear of their hosts with a win, had a Phil Foden goal disallowed, while Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was shown a red card for remonstrating with a linesman after a tackle on Salah.

Arsenal made it nine wins from their first 10 games with Bukayo Saka's goal earning them a 1-0 victory at Leeds United.

Mikel Arteta's side have 27 points from 10 games with City and Tottenham Hotspur on 23. Chelsea are in fourth spot with 19 points, with a game in hand, thanks to a 2-0 win at Aston Villa courtesy of a double by England midfielder Mason Mount.

Manchester United are fifth with 16 points from nine games after drawing 0-0 at home to sixth-placed Newcastle United, who have 15.

Despite Arsenal's flying start to the season the popular theory is that relentless City are primed to claim a fifth title in six seasons.

But on a rare off day for City's goal machine Erling Haaland, Liverpool produced a performance that suggests it is far too early to disregard Juergen Klopp's side, who have 13 points from nine games after a rocky start.

Clashes between the sides have produced some classics over the past few seasons and while Sunday's match had plenty of the usual quality, it was a blood and thunder affair that occasionally boiled over.

Guardiola was furious when Foden's goal, with the score at 0-0, was ruled out after referee Anthony Taylor checked a pitch-side monitor and decided there had been a foul by Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up.

Salah had been denied by a great save from Ederson but when he found himself one-on-one again he made no mistake. Alisson's quarterback-style clearance was missed by Joao Cancelo and the Egyptian forward ran through to dink a shot over City's keeper.

With tackles flying in Klopp was livid when Salah was not given a foul and he was sent from the technical area.

Klopp was calmer later, admitting that he had probably deserved a red card.

On the result, the German said: "Perfect. Performance, really, really good, in an incredibly intense game.

"We defended at an incredibly high level for 99 minutes almost. They had their moments but especially in the box we did extremely well. This was for us obviously big today. We showed up today and that is all we wanted to do."

The defeat was City's first in 23 away games in the Premier League and Guardiola was left bemused by the decision to disallow Foden's goal.

"The referee said play on, play on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one they gave because we scored a goal," Guardiola, who said coins were thrown at him, complained.

"We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield."

Arsenal's game earlier had suffered a lengthy delay after a power outage at Elland Road. But they returned after 38 minutes to take the points in a frantic game thanks to Saka's first-half goal from a tight angle following a through pass by Martin Odegaard.

Patrick Bamford missed a penalty for Leeds who suffered their first home loss of the season.

"Big momentum for us, we've won another game. We need to keep this going and today we showed we can win no matter what," Saka said.

Chelsea remain unbeaten in six games since Graham Potter became manager, winning the last five in succession in all competitions.

They were given a helping hand as Villa's Tyrone Mings made a terrible mistake to allow Mount to score in the sixth minute. Mount then sealed the points with a second-half free kick.

In Sunday's other match, Declan Rice's earned West Ham United a point with the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Southampton who remain in the relegation zone.

Asked how Liverpool could keep up with Pep Guardiola's team, who won the Premier League for the fourth time in five seasons in May, Klopp replied that nobody could.

Manchester City are through to the Champions League last 16 with two group games to spare after drawing 0-0 at FC Copenhagen on Tuesday, despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men.

VAR took centre stage in an action-packed first half in Copenhagen. City thought they had taken the lead 11 minutes in with a goal-of-the-season contender from Rodri, only for the strike to be ruled out for handball in the build-up.

The video assistant referee stepped in again moments later to help City win a penalty for another handball, but Riyad Mahrez saw his spot kick saved by home goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

A busy VAR then asked the referee to have another look at a foul by Sergio Gomez on the edge of the penalty area on the half hour mark, with the on-field official choosing to show the City full back a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The 10 men more than held their own in the second half, but with Liverpool to come in the Premier League at the weekend and qualification for the knockout stage almost secured, City left top goalscorer Erling Haaland on the bench and saw out the draw.

Top of Group G with 10 points from four matches, City are sure of a last-16 spot after Sevilla were held to a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund, meaning Pep Guardiola's side will finish in the top two, while Copenhagen are bottom on two points.

"Many players didn't start today because they were exhausted and tired and fatigued and (had) niggles," City coach Pep Guardiola said. "We adapted really well (to the red card). They are too good. We're close (to qualifying). It's a good point."

City players were furious that Mahrez was adjudged to have handled the ball before setting up Rodri for the Spaniard's thunderbolt.

However, none of them appealed for the penalty that was awarded after the ball struck home defender Nicolai Boilesen on the arm from a City corner, with the referee having checked the pitchside monitor again.

Mahrez never looked comfortable and has now missed two of his last three spot kicks, while City have missed 24 penalties in all competitions under Pep Guardiola, nine more than any other Premier League side since the Spaniard took charge in 2016.

Ten-man Manchester City through to Champions League knockout stages with draw in Copenhagen

Erling Haaland has had a fantastic start to life at Manchester City as he has been enjoying red-hot goal-scoring form for the reigning Premier League champions. Haaland has already scored 20 goals for City across all competitions and has netted 15 times in the Premier League in what has been a sensational start for the Norweigan striker.

While much of it has been down to the quality City posses in their squad and his incredible finishing instincts, Haaland had revealed details of his diet which helps him stay on top of his game. The Manchester City striker opened up on his bizarre diet and revealed he eats the heart and liver of a cow.

Haaland revealed the bizarre elements of his diet in a documentary named 'Haaland: The Big Decision'. He also said he consumes around 6,000 calories per day and his father Alfie cooks his meals at home before City's every home game.

"You (other people) don't eat this, but I am concerned with taking care of my body. I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important. People say meat is bad for you, but which? The meat you get at McDonald's? Or the local cow eating grass right over there? 'You don't eat this' - Erling Haaland reveals details of bizarre diet as he continues goal-scoring spree

Erling Haaland has been unstoppable ever since arriving at Manchester City earlier this summer. the Norweigan striker has been banging in goals for fun and has already scored 20 goals across all competitions so far this season. Haaland was close to drawing a blank against Southampton on Sunday but managed to get on the scoresheet by scoring City's final goal in their thumping win.

Guardiola was asked about his reaction on Haaland scoring just once against Southampton and the City boss came up with a hilarious take. The Spaniard said he was 'unhappy' Haaland didn't manage to get another hat trick in the game and also had a laugh about the viral petition from fans of other Premier League sides to ban Haaland.

“I am so unhappy he didn’t score three goals! That’s why there is a petition to sack him from the Premier League – but now it won’t happen because of that. But, no, it is nice. The expectation is so high that everyone thinks that in every game he should score three or four goals. In the end, he was there to score one, to help us keep the ball and to fight. Erling played really well," said Guardiola.

Though Guardiola's light-hearted comments are not to be taken seriously, it is reflective of the kind of standards Haaland has set since his arrival at City from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer. He has been a prolific poacher and has rarely spilt a chance while showcasing his incredible finishing instincts.

Haaland had a couple of chances to get on the scoresheet in the first half against Southampton but was not clinical enough. He hit the inside of the post from a pass from Phil Foden before slipping up on a chance created by Kevin De Bruyne for him to score. Haaland had another shot saved by Southampton skipper before finally managing to open his account in the 64th minute.

I am so unhappy he didn’t score 3: Pep Guardiola reacts to Erling Haaland scoring only once vs Southampton

Erling Haaland scored for the 10th game in a row in all club competitions as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 win at home to Southampton on Saturday to move to the top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker had endured a difficult afternoon by his usual prolific standards but eventually got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to grab City's fourth goal after first-half strikes from Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden plus a volley after the interval from Riyad Mahrez.

The victory took City to the top of the standings on 23 points from nine matches although Arsenal, on 21, can reclaim the lead if they beat Liverpool at home on Sunday.

Southampton, meanwhile, were left 16th on seven points after falling to their fourth consecutive league defeat, piling more pressure on manager Ralph Hasenhuettl.

Haaland went into the game in ruthless form after hitting a hat-trick in last week's 6-3 drubbing of Manchester United and scoring a double in the 5-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.

However, luck evaded him when he narrowly failed to open the scoring in the first half, smashing a shot off the inside of the far post and watching the ball trickle out of the goal.

Haaland later scuffed a shot wide and mistimed a header in the second half, but he was not to be denied, firing a first-time shot into the net after a cut-back from Cancelo to score his 15th league goal of the season and his 20th overall.

Portugal full back Cancelo was City's most active player in the early stages of the game and after seeing several of his crosses come to nothing he took matters into his own hands, rifling a low shot into the net to give the champions the lead in the 20th minute.

Foden doubled their advantage later in the first half with a delightful chip, the England midfielder scoring for the fourth time in two league games after, like Haaland, netting three times in the derby win over United.

Mahrez volleyed in a chipped pass from Rodri to get the third goal early in the second half as City continued to toy with Southampton.

Haaland was in danger of drawing a blank for the first time for City since the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Aug. 15 but kept his remarkable goal streak going and is now four games away from equalling Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy's record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, dating back to 2015.

Erling Haaland scores for 10th game in a row as Man City thrash Southampton 4-0 in Premier League

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently outlined the key difference between the legendary Lionel Messi and goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker has been running riot across all competitions ever since his arrival at Manchester City earlier this summer.

Haaland has been unstoppable and has been scoring goals for fun for the reigning English Premier League champions while smashing records one after another. The young striker bagged yet another hat-trick for City against arch-rivals Manchester United on Sunday to help them secure a comprehensive 6-3 victory.

Following his heroics against United, Guardiola was asked what separates Haaland from Messi, who was also a wizard at the start of his career and went on to become one of the greatest of all time. The Spanish manager, who played an instrumental role in Messi's growth at his former club Barcelona, said the Argentinian had the ability to do it all himself while Haaland needs his teammates.

"The difference is that Erling needs maybe all his mates, you know, to do it. Unbelievable. Messi had the ability for himself to do it," said Guardiola.

Haaland has so far scored a staggering 17 goals across competitions for Manchester City this season, including an impressive 14 in the Premier League. If he can continue his red-hot form, Haaland might break the all-time record for most goals in a single season in the Premier League.

Praising Haaland for his sharp instincts, Guardiola said he has had no role to play in the star striker's exploits. The Spaniard said Haaland was born with incredible instincts which helps him finish well and score goals easily.

"I have said it many times and I will say it again - what Erling (Haaland) is doing he did in Norway, Austria and Germany. The quality we have alongside him helps him score, but what he is doing I didn't teach him. He has incredible instincts. It comes from his mum and dad. He was born with that," said Guardiola.
