Panicked and worried for their friend’s lives, the other officer hurried back to his unit and informed his commanding officer about the incident, who swiftly alerted the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Officers from Dial-100, along with other military personnel rushed to the scene, but till then attackers fled upon seeing the approaching vehicles.</p>

As per residents, the man named Sonu was bitten by a dog some days ago&nbsp;and has&nbsp;since been exhibiting violent behaviour towards people around him.</p>

<p>Sonu, who works as a cleaner at a local vegetable market, was bitten by a stray dog about two weeks ago. After that, his behaviour has become unpredictable and residents have reported some worrying accounts they noticed with the man.</p>

He even put up a signboard to advertise his unique scheme, but it failed as police officials asked him to pay a penalty for illegal signboards.</p>

<p>Terming his reply unsatisfactory, the authorities fined him Rs 10,000 for flouting the conditions of his liquor licence, the official said.</p>

<p>The locals were furious over this signboard and said that it would send a wrong message to young people who might get influenced by the "learn&nbsp;English" sign and end up getting sloshed at the liquor shop.</p>

<p>Some also believed that the sign was “misleading” as it looked like an advertisement for a Spoken English coaching centre.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gandhi Sagar is about a six-hour drive from Kuno. It is spread across 368 square kilometres and has an additional 2,500 sq km area surrounding it.</p>

<p>The official quoted above also said the mother cheetahs and their cubs will not be released into the wild until weather conditions in the Kuno National Park improve.</p>

<p>Jwala (Namibian name Siyaya) had given birth to four cubs last March. Three of the cubs succumbed to extreme heat while the sole survivor is being raised under human care for future wilding.</p>

<p>The official said the mother cheetahs and their cubs are being kept in larger enclosures to avoid extreme weather and for better monitoring, which is difficult in the wild.</p>

<p>"We will release them in the wild as soon as weather conditions improve," the official said.</p>

<p>The recent births have taken the number of cubs at the Kuno National Park to eight at present, with seven being born this month.</p>

<p>The total number of cheetahs at the Kuno National Park currently stands at 21 (six males, seven females and eight cubs).</p>

<p>While January recorded the birth of seven cubs, it also witnessed the death of Shaurya -- an adult Namibian cheetah -- on 16 January.</p>

<p>Officials said they do not know the reason for Shaurya's death as they have not yet received his post-mortem report.</p>

<p>Since last March, seven adult cheetahs, including Shaurya, have died due to various reasons.</p>

<p>The seven adult cheetahs -- three females and four males -- that died include Sasha, Uday, Daksha, Tejas, Suraj, Dhatri and Shaurya. The first six fatalities occurred in a six-month period between March and August 2023.</p>

<p>Jwala and Aasha are among the cheetahs translocated to India from Namibia under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Project Cheetah, aimed at re-introducing the only large carnivore species that went extinct in independent India.</p>

<p>The much-vaunted cheetah conservation project, however, has drawn sharp criticism over the animals' deaths.</p>

<p>According to officials, one of the biggest challenges faced in the first year of managing the cheetahs in India was the unexpected development of winter coats by some of the animals during the Indian summer and monsoon, in anticipation of the African winter (June to September).</p>

<p>The winter coat, combined with high humidity and temperatures, caused itching, prompting the animals to scratch their necks on tree trunks or the ground. This led to bruising and exposing the skin, where flies laid eggs, resulting in maggot infestations and, ultimately, bacterial infections and septicemia, leading to the deaths of three cheetahs, an official explained.</p>

<p>India plans to import cheetahs that do not develop thicker winter coats, Yadav said earlier.</p>

<p>For the cheetahs already in Kuno, he said the plan is to administer prophylactic medicine before the arrival of monsoon to prevent infection.</p>

<p>The project's focus in its second year would be on breeding these animals, he added.</p>

South Africa to evaluate India's Gandhi Sagar wildlife sanctuary for future cheetah releases

<p>Two women in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh were nearly killed after a truck driver attempted to bury them under a massive load of gravel on Saturday (Jul 20). <p>The women,&nbsp;Mamta Pandey and Asha, were protesting against road construction in the area, which they said was coming up on their leased land. As they protested, the situation escalated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The driver of the dumper truck, Vipin Pandey, acting on the behest of a local strongman, arrived with gravel and dumped it all on the two women who were nearly buried under it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing preliminary information, police had initially stated that all five bodies were hanging in the house. However, a villager later informed the police that the couple and their two sons were found hanging, while the girl's body was lying on the floor of their house in Ravdi village.&nbsp;</p>

The counting of votes will take place on June 4.</p>

<p>Despite the joint efforts of multiple agencies to rescue him, the six-year-old boy who fell into an open borewell in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh two days ago passed away on Sunday (April 14).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident happened in Manika village, near the Uttar Pradesh border, around 3 pm on Friday. The child was playing near the open borewell when he fell in it. Officials stated that he got trapped about 40 feet deep inside the borewell.</p>

<p>The State Disaster Emergency Response Force, National Disaster Response, and local administration worked together to rescue the boy from the borewell. They provided oxygen into the 70-foot-deep borewell and dug parallel pits to reach him.</p>

<p>“As soon as we received information, the station in charge and SDM reached the spot…All senior officials are present on the spot and rescue work is going on. Two JCBs, a team of cameramen, and an SDRF team are carrying out the rescue. An NDRF team was also dispatched from Varanasi,” Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Sonkar told reporters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police tried using a CCTV camera to check on the boy, but they couldn't reach him because of an obstruction. Rewa collector Pratibha Pal shared a video on X, showing officials using the camera to locate the boy.</p>

<p>Pal stated that the child was found on Sunday after a 40-hour rescue operation.</p>

<p>"The boy was located at around 8 am. We made all efforts but could not save the child as the borewell was too narrow," she told reporters.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, in an unrelated incident, a two-year-old boy was safely rescued after falling into a borewell in Lachayan village of Indi taluk in Karnataka's Vijayapura.</p>
