<p>During an interview with CNN published on Sunday (July 9), Biden said, "I don't think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"For example, if you did that, then, you know – and I mean what I say – we're determined to commit every inch of territory that is NATO territory. It's a commitment that we've all made no matter what. If the war is going on, then we're all in war. We're at war with Russia, if that were the case," Biden added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"But I think it’s premature to say, to call for a vote, you know, in now, because there are other qualifications that need to be met, including democratisation and some of those issues," Biden added.&nbsp;</p>

Biden says Ukraine not ready for NATO membership in the middle of war with Russia

<p>The upcoming BRICS summit will be an in-person summit despite an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin from the International Criminal Court.&nbsp;</p>

<p>South African President Cyril Ramaphosa clarified on Sunday that next month's BRICS summit, which Vladimir Putin has been invited to, will not be a virtual summit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The BRICS summit is going ahead and we are finalising our discussions on the format," Ramaphosa told journalists, adding that it will be&nbsp;a "physical" meeting.</p>

<p>Ramaphosa, however,&nbsp;did not say if Putin, wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over accusations that Russia unlawfully deported Ukrainian children, would attend the BRICS summit or not.</p>

<p>"We are going to have a physical BRICS summit, all of us are committed to having a summit where we will be able to eyeball each other," he said in response to a question.</p>

<p>"We have not held a physical summit for...almost three years. It's not going to be virtual," he stressed.</p>

<p>As a member of the ICC, South Africa would be expected to arrest Putin if he sets foot in the country.</p>

<p>According to accusations put forth by Ukraine, more than 16,000 Ukrainian children have been deported to Russia since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022. Ukraine has alleged that many of these children have been placed in institutions and foster homes.</p>

<p>Russia has denied these accusations. Since Russia is not a member of the ICC, the country deems the warrant "void".</p>

<p>"These immunities do not override any warrant&nbsp;that may have been issued by any international tribunal against any attendee of the conference,"&nbsp;Clayson Monyela, spokesperson of South Africa's international relations department said.</p>

<p>South Africa's foreign minister Naledi Pandor had stated earlier that the country was mulling options.</p>

<p>"Our government is currently looking at what the legal options are with respect to this matter and I've indicated ... that it is something the president will be the best person to speak about (this) once it has reached a conclusion," said Pandor while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a BRICS foreign ministers meeting in Cape Town in June 2023.</p>

<p>A total of sixteen people were treated at the scene and 12 were taken to hospital. Hours after the accident, Selena Lau, the first eight-year-old died of injuries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>United States presidential contender Nikki Haley issued a warning on Sunday (July 2) over China's ramped-up military aggression. Haley said that the&nbsp;country is ahead of the US in a number of key aspects.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As she appeared on "Fox News Sunday," Haley slammed the Biden administration for giving priority to the woke agenda of the US military, while China prepared for war. &nbsp;</p>

<p>As mentioned in the report, the presidential contender argued that there's a need to focus on China's growth both economically and militarily — and a responsible administration would do so.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Haley told host, Shannon Bream, "China has been preparing for war with us for decades. And the way we have to deal with China is [to] not look at it tomorrow, because if we keep waiting to deal with them tomorrow, they will deal with us today."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If you look at the military situation, they now have the largest naval fleet in the world. They have 340 ships, we have 293. They're going to have 400 In two years, we won't even have 350 in two decades. They have started developing hypersonic missiles," she said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the officials, the US seeks to secure its national security interests and protect human rights, and the actions to this effect are "not intended to gain economic advantage over China".&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a Facebook post on Friday, Jeremy Wagner said that he discovered the crack in the Fury 325 giga roller coaster at the Carowinds amusement park and notified officials. The Fury 325 is one of the tallest and longest rides.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was temporarily closed after the complaint and a spokesperson for Carowinds told Fox News Digital that the roller coaster was being inspected by the park's maintenance team. Carowinds is located outside of Charlotte.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The park said that the "tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America" will remain closed until inspections and repairs take place.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Kings Island in Ohio, a giga roller coaster has a drop between 300 and 399 feet. Carowinds has said that the Fury 325 takes riders to a peak height of 325 feet and reaches at a massive speed of 95mph.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As quoted, the spokesperson said in a statement: "Carowinds closed Fury 325 after park personnel became aware of a crack at the top of a steel support pillar."&nbsp;</p>

<p>It further added, "The park’s maintenance team is conducting a thorough inspection and the ride will remain closed until repairs have been completed."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Safety is our top priority and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued guests during this process. As part of our comprehensive safety protocols, all rides, including Fury 325, undergo daily inspections to ensure their proper functioning and structural integrity," the statement added.</p>

<p>Russia Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday (June 30) that the nation will emerge "stronger" in the aftermath of the failed mutiny, which the mercenary group Wagner launched last weekend.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Duda told reporters in Kyiv, "It is difficult for us to exclude today that the presence of the Wagner Group in Belarus could pose a potential threat to Poland, which shares a border with Belarus, a threat to Lithuania... as well as potentially to Latvia."&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Tuesday, a jet belonging to Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin flew out of Rostov and landed near Minsk, which was later confirmed by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. The Belarusian leader was quoted as saying by the state media Belta that Prigozin was currently in Belarus.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said that "security guarantees have been given" as promised to Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I see Prigozhin's been flying aboard this plane - yes, indeed he’s in Belarus today," he further added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Duda said in a joint news conference that Poland and Lithuania will do everything they can to ensure that Ukraine becomes a member of NATO as soon as possible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, NATO members unanimously said that Ukraine must get all support during the war against Russia. They are affirmative about Ukraine's inclusion in NATO but have yet to resolve differences over how to address Kyiv's desire for membership.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lithuania and Poland have been among the staunchest supporters of Ukraine in NATO and the EU, and have been calling for accepting it into both. Meanwhile, Lithuania is buying NASAMS air defence systems for Ukraine from a Norwegian company.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The mutiny came after a series of claims and counterclaims made by the Wagner chief as the feud between him and the Russian army escalated for months. Prigozhin made increasingly scathing statements against generals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lukashenko said, "We missed the situation, and then we thought that it would resolve itself, but it did not resolve."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lukashenko also said that it had been "painful" to watch events unfold in Russia. He further mentioned that during the crisis situation, he had put Belarusian troops and police on full alert.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Two people who fought at the front clashed, there are no heroes in this case," he added, referring to the Wagner chief and his rival Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Russian president on Monday&nbsp;accused Ukraine and its Western allies of wanting Russians to "kill each other". During a Monday night address, he also claimed that Prigozhin's uprising was "doomed to fail". He made a special mention to the civilians for showing "unity" in the face of a "treacherous" rebellion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Kremlin on Tuesday said that Putin's authority had not been weakened by the armed mutiny. Meanwhile, Putin said that the group of Wagner mercenaries failed to win the support of the Russian people or its army.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Justice Department watchdog has said in a new report released Tuesday (June 27) that disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein's death by suicide was apparently a result of negligence and misconduct by the federal Bureau of Prisons and workers at the New York City jail.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Epstein took his own life while awaiting trial charges linked to sex trafficking of minors. He had previously been convicted in Florida of paying young girls for massages, and was also accused of sexually exploiting dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14, at his homes in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida between 2002 and 2005.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Epstein pleaded not guilty and on August 10, 2019, he was found dead, hanging in his cell at Manhattan's Metropolitan Correctional Center at the age of 66. The autopsy confirmed that it was a death by suicide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As reported by news agency The Associated Press, in a statement released with the report, Michael Horowitz, who is the Justice Department's inspector general, said, "The BOP's failures are troubling not only because the BOP did not adequately safeguard an individual in its custody..."</p>

<p>"...but also because they led to questions about the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death and effectively deprived Epstein's numerous victims of the opportunity to seek justice through the criminal justice system," the statement added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The inspector general admitted that there was no evidence which would contradict the FBI's determination that there was no criminality associated with the death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But he argued that the job performance and functional failures, facilitated further by staffing shortages and a "widespread disregard" for BOP policies and procedures,&nbsp;made Epstein's death possible.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the report, Horowitz concluded that none of the videos captured by the cameras that were recording showed any indication of anyone else in the cell.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Investigators probed for possible money changing hands involving guards but found no evidence of that&nbsp;either.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The prosecutors said that the workers&nbsp;assigned to guard Epstein were sleeping and shopping online instead of checking on him every 30 minutes as required.&nbsp;</p>

<p>AP obtained documents related to Epstein’s death from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and then collated the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is mentioned in the report that Epstein spent 36 days at the now-shuttered Metropolitan Correctional Center. He was also put on suicide watch for 31 hours two weeks before his death after he had attempted to die by suicide that left his neck bruised and scraped.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also mentioned that the workers tasked with guarding Epstein the night he died were working overtime. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Some of the locals in New York City aren't happy after a recent proposal issued to cut down on coal and wood-burning pizza ovens by 75% in order to reduce emissions, New York Post reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>New rules were drafted by the New York City's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) stating that field test data must show that the Emissions Control Device has reduced the existing cook stove's total particulate matter emissions by 75%.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The main objective of the proposal was to reduce air pollution coming from coal and wood emissions. Pizzerias are now required to evaluate whether they can install emissions control devices for their kitchen stoves, but some say those devices would cost a lot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As quoted by Fox News, DEP spokesman Ted Timbers said in a statement Sunday: "All New Yorkers deserve to breathe healthy air and wood and coal-fired stoves are among the largest contributors of harmful pollutants in neighbourhoods with poor air quality."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"This common-sense (sic) rule, developed with restaurant and environmental justice groups, requires a professional review of whether installing emission controls is feasible," Timbers added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What's the issue?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Some critics have said that the old and historic outlets would be impacted, and the smoky flavour of the pizzas might vanish if restaurants replace the coal/wood-fired ovens with cleaner-burning ones. Meanwhile, the officials say it will affect less than 100 of the city's countless pizza joints.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Scott LoBaido, an angry activist, was seen on the streets shouting war slogans while protesting the proposal. He even threw multiple pizzas at NYC Hall in response to the city's crackdown on coal and wood-fired ovens. He said Monday, "Well… this is the New York Pizza Party! Give us pizza or give us death!"&nbsp;</p>

<p>Daniel Korski, who is a Conservative London mayoral candidate, has been accused by TV producer Daisy Goodwin of groping her in Downing Street a decade ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While writing a column for The Times, the 61-year-old Goodwin alleged that the former No 10 adviser groped her at a meeting in Downing Street in 2013.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She claimed that Korski put his hand on her breast during a meeting at Downing Street. The incident happened when he was a special adviser to David Cameron.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The TV producer said that she met Korski at Downing Street to discuss a possible TV project, but she found his behaviour during the meeting "odd" and also said that "it was not a particularly fruitful discussion".&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the column, she wrote: "When we both stood up at the end of the meeting and went to the door, the spad [special adviser] stepped towards me and suddenly put his hand on my breast."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Astonished, I said loudly, 'Are you really touching my breast?' The spad sprang away from me and I left," she added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Although I suppose legally his action could be called sexual assault, I have to say that I did not feel frightened. I was older, taller and very possibly wiser than the spad, and having worked for the BBC in the eighties I knew how to deal with gropers," she further said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Explaining the situation and how she felt, Goodwin wrote, "Could I have misinterpreted his action? I have thought about this a lot, but the answer is always no. He, like some other men in power, must be the sort of man who gets a kick out of surprising women in this way."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Well, Goodwin has spoken about the incident previously also when she first went public in 2017. However, she hadn't revealed any name. She said that she was naming him now because "if this is a pattern of behaviour, then the people of London deserve to know".&nbsp;</p>

TV producer and writer accuses Tory mayoral candidate of groping her a decade ago

<p>New research has highlighted damning figures as it revealed that an area equivalent to the size of Switzerland was cleared from Earth's rainforests in 2022. The report comes after a number of pledges globally to take definitive steps to end deforestation by 2030.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report by the World Resources Institute's (WRI) Global Forest Watch said that a massive chunk of the tropical forest disappeared as forest destruction rose by 10 per cent&nbsp;compared to the previous year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report also stated that the rate of loss was equivalent to losing 11 soccer fields of forest per minute, as swaths of tropical forest were cleared for farming, mining and other commercial activities.</p>

<p>The report mentioned that tropical primary forest loss in 2022 totalled 4.1 million hectares. It further added that all this forest loss produced 2.7 gigatonnes (Gt) of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to India's annual fossil fuel emissions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A man in the United States mistakenly added a couple of zeroes to the amount he wanted to give away to charity and accidentally donated $15,000 instead of $150 to a hunger relief programme.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Media reports have mentioned that the man from California, who goes by the username u/lazybear90 on Reddit, donated a lot more and told the story on the subreddit TIFU.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident took place in February of last year, but what happened next after this honest mistake is quite heart-warming. The 32-year-old man, who has been identified in the media as Michael, explained what had happened.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While sharing his story, he wrote in the thread that the incident happened soon after he had moved into a new apartment building in San Francisco last year with his wife.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the neighbours in the new apartment told him about a charity he managed for a community in Bangladesh, which was on GoFundMe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Michael was pretty much convinced by the neighbour, who has been described by the Reddit user as a "70-something-year-old retired veteran", who was said to be a "white American guy" and "a devout Hindu priest". Michael referred to as Joe in the thread.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said, "The next day at work, I go on the GoFundMe page and donate $150. Or so I thought" but was shocked when he received a warning from his credit card company about an "unusually large transaction".&nbsp;</p>

<p>He wrote that it appeared he had accidentally started typing his credit card information while the cursor was still in the donation box.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>He wanted to fix the situation, only to realise later that...&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Michael said he called GoFundMe's support line and spoke to a human operator, who told him that his transaction will be reversed and he will get the money in three to seven business days.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said that he asked the employee if the charity will be able to see the donation on the GoFundMe page until it is refunded. The employee replied "yes".&nbsp;</p>
