<p>However, as per a report in 'Independent,' Joseph Dempsey, a research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies said that while the UAVs visually resemble&nbsp;the US drones, they might not match their American counterparts in terms of performance capabilities.</p>

<p>"North Korea’s new UAV designs clearly emulate the US Global Hawk and Reaper visually but the key capabilities associated with both types–particularly in terms of flight performance, avionics or sensor payloads – will not be replicated so closely," he said.</p>

The other model, which first seen during testing last month, boasts a wingspan of approximately 115 feet (35 metres) and a v-tail design.</p>

<p>Talking to the publication, Ankit Panda, Stanton Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said that while "the design does resemble several known drone designs, but that's not necessarily evidence that the North Koreans are relying on stolen information or knowledge."</p>

<p>The exhibition also featured North Korea's Hwasong-17 liquid-fuel ICBM, first launched in November 2022, along with its transporter erector launch vehicle (TEL).&nbsp;</p>

Additionally, the Hwasong-18 solid-fuel ICBM, successfully tested in April and July, was showcased separately on stands next to its transporter. <p>The ICBM launched on July 12 has been fired only once before, in April.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, the missile flew 1001 kilometres at a maximum altitude of 6,648 km before splashing into the East Sea, according to KCNA. The East Sea is also known as the Sea of Japan.</p>

<p>KCNA further said that the launch was a "grand explosion" that shook "the whole planet". Footage on the state media showed the missile blasting off into the sky.</p>

<p>Kim vowed that "a series of stronger military offensive" would be launched until the United States and South Korea change their policies towards North Korea, the agency added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Citing the "unstable situation" on the Korean peninsula, Kim also called for "more intense efforts" to boost North Korea's nuclear arsenal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The confirmation of the launch -- which the South Korean military had reported on Wednesday -- came with relations between the two Koreas at one of their lowest points ever.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She also called North Korea’s satellite launch a “legitimate, self-defensive countermeasure” amid threats from the US and its allies. Pyongyang had also accused Washington of raising tensions in the region with their recent annual military drills.</p>

<p>The North Korean leader’s sister also vowed to continue launching spy satellites which the country has called necessary to counter Washington’s growing US military presence in the region.</p>

<p>“The DPRK will continue to take proactive measures to exercise all the lawful rights of a sovereign state, including the one to military reconnaissance satellite launch,” said Kim Yo Jong, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Additionally, she said Pyongyang will never acknowledge sanctions resolutions by the UN, “even if they slap them hundred, thousand times.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What happened at the meeting?</strong></h2>

<p>The UNSC meeting over North Korea’s failed launch of its spy satellite was called by the US last week. The launch has since been slammed by the US, South Korea and Japan who said it violated UN resolutions barring the nuclear-armed country from any tests using ballistic missile technology.</p>

<p>This led the UN’s under-secretary-general for political and peacebuilding affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo on Friday to take the UNSC to task over the “lack of unity and action” on North Korea’s tests. The state media also published on Thursday photographs of what is said was the new rocket lifting off from a coastal launch pad. The white-and-grey rocket had a bulbous nose, apparently for carrying a satellite or other cargo.</p>

<p>According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Ankit Panda from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said the photographs confirmed that the rocket was a new design.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The launch used the new coastal launch pad they've built at Tongchang-ri, so we might see a larger space launch vehicle use the traditional gantry that has seen some work recently," Panda said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Following Wednesday's launch, US-based monitors reported that commercial satellite imagery showed significant activity at the main pad.</p>

<h2><strong>Kim Yo Jong on criticism of spy satellite launch</strong></h2>

<p>As the launch was criticised by many including Japan, South Korea, and the US Kim Yo Jong said on Thursday the criticisms were "self-contradiction" as the US and other countries have already launched "thousands of satellites."</p>

<p>Japanese Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada on Thursday told US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that he wanted closer cooperation with the US and South Korea to deal with North Korea after Wednesday's spy satellite launch failed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During a meeting with Austin in Tokyo, Hamada said, "We need to strengthen ties between Japan and the US and also between Japan, the US and ROK (Republic of Korea), as it is possible that North Korea launches again."</p>

<p>Austin, meanwhile, told the Japanese defence minister that he wanted to bolster cooperation between their alliance, South Korea and Australia, as they also face challenges posed by China and Russia, Reuters reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a tweet, the Japanese prime minister's office said that PM Fumio Kishida issued instructions "on North Korea's notification about the launch of a ballistic missile that it describes as a satellite".</p>

<p>He further urged North Korea to abstain and said he would work closely with allies.</p>

<p>"We strongly urge North Korea to refrain from launching," the prime minister's office said on Twitter, adding it would cooperate "with relevant countries such as the U.S. and South Korea".</p>

<p>He has instructed the officials to remain vigilant, issuing an order for the Air Self-Defense Force to knock down any ballistic projectile confirmed to be on course to fall into the country's territory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ministry said that the soldiers would be authorised to use Standard Missile SM-3 and Patriot Missile PAC-3 to destroy the missile in mid-air.</p>

<p>"Even if it's described as a satellite, a launch using ballistic missile technology would be a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and a serious problem that threatens the safety of people," Kishida told reporters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, North Korean state media published a statement from its vice minister of foreign affairs, appearing to endorse a conciliatory approach to relations with Japan.</p>

<p>If Japan avoids "being shackled by the past, and seeks a way out for improving the relations, there is no reason for the DPRK and Japan not to meet", the statement from Pak Sang Gil said.</p>

<p>Last year in December, a report by the state media said that North Korea has executed an "important final-stage" test of launching a military reconnaissance satellite into orbit at its rocket launching site, with plans to finish preparations for the project by April.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The KCNA had reported that the test was carried out at the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground to "evaluate the capabilities of satellite photography, data transmission system, and ground control system".&nbsp;</p>

<p>KCNA said that on Tuesday, "after acquainting himself in detail with the work of the committee, (Kim) inspected the military reconnaissance satellite No. 1, which is ready for loading after undergoing the final general assembly check and space environment test".&nbsp;</p>

<p>The publication said several North Korean Christians hid their faith from their children out of fear of punishment.</p>

<p>It cited the finding of one NGO, Open Doors USA (ODUSA), which said: “A Christian is never safe.”</p>

<p>“Children are encouraged to tell their teachers about any sign of faith in their parents’ home.”</p>

<p>Korea Future said children were taught in school about the “evil deeds” of Christian missionaries, including “rape, blood sucking, organ harvesting, murder, and espionage”.</p>

<p>“One defector told Korea Future, the government published graphic novels in which Christians coaxed children into churches and took them to the basement to draw their blood,” the report said.</p>
