"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, BTS!" the 28 people on the bus sang in unison, before segueing into enthusiastic covers of BTS's many hits, complete with lip-syncing and dance moves.<br />

The fans are on a 12-day "BTS tour" of South Korea to mark the 10th anniversary on Tuesday of the group's debut. Organised in part by Seoul's official tourism board, their trip takes in a range of locations nationwide associated with the K-pop juggernaut.<br />

First up on Tuesday: The main Seoul office of the group's agency HYBE, which has become a pilgrimage site for fans this week, and where a huge mural of the septet has been freshly painted on the wall outside.<br />

She estimated this trip cost participants around $5,000 per person, including flights.&nbsp;It was worth it, she said, because BTS "changed my life".<br />

Discovering BTS had helped her realise she "could do so much more", including travel places she never imagined she would go, Pena said, rattling off destinations she had visited to see the band.<br />

"And now I have so many of these memories and experiences I can share with my grandchildren," she added.</p>

The initial domestic reception was muted. Their name was seen as strange, and in South Korea's highly competitive music market, being repped by a smaller label meant they were squeezed out of the mainstream, forcing them to find fresh ways to connect with fans.<br />
<br />
Gradually, as they broadened their musical style and increasingly went by the snappier name BTS, their albums started to rise up local and global charts. By 2018, their third album -- "Love Yourself: Tear" -- went straight to the top of the Billboard 200, prompting congratulations from the South Korean president at the time.<br />
<br />
Their direct outreach to fans online, coupled with their heartfelt music, has won them legions of adorers like Pena, whose eyes well with tears when she thinks of the song that means the most to her: "Love Myself".<br />
"There's a part that says, 'Why is it so hard for you to love yourself and easy for you to love other people?' and that struck a chord," she said.<br />

For Darrin Goodwin, 52, this was the undisputed highlight of the tour -- especially as Jimin's father gave him an unexpected hug after their chat.<br />

"It was very very surreal and it was an honour and privilege," Goodwin said.<br />
<br />
Goodwin told AFP that he was not originally a BTS fan, but his daughter Chelsea had got him into the band.<br />
<br />
"I tried to convince my dad to listen to them but it didn't work until he heard a specific song, 'Dope'," she told AFP.<br />
<br />
Now, the father-daughter duo say they do everything BTS-related together and credit their shared love of the band with bringing them closer as a family.<br />
<br />
For Chelsea, 24, BTS is more than a K-pop group. They have made the world a happier place, she said, by teaching people "how to love themselves".</p>

<p>BTS member Jin dropped his debut single 'The Astronaut' on Friday. The much-awaited song which has been co-written by Jin and Chris Martin received a lot of love from BTS Army and the other members of the K-pop boy band.&nbsp;<br />

<p>And at New York’s Korean Cultural Center on Wednesday, it was announced that K-pop star Luna will be making her Broadway debut as the star of the show.</p>

<p>“Anyone who has followed my career knows that musical theater has always been a driving passion of mine,” Luna said at the announcement. “Broadway represents the pinnacle of achievement in my profession, so being able to bring my culture to the fans who flock here from all over the world to see a Broadway show is the honor of my life.”</p>

<p>The musical, conceived by Woodshed Collective and Jason Kim, had an off-Broadway run in 2017 at A.R.T./New York, where it was an immersive performance piece that occupied two floors of a building in Hell’s Kitchen. Kim wrote the book, and music and lyrics are by Helen Park and Max Vernon.</p>

<p>“The world we explore in ‘KPOP’ is cutthroat, relentless in its pursuit of perfection, full of passionate, hugely ambitious artists, and ultimately a source of joy,” Park said Wednesday.</p>

<p>The show’s off-Broadway director, Teddy Bergman, and its choreographer, Jennifer Weber, will return for the Broadway production. Previews are to start Oct. 13 at the Circle in the Square Theater; opening night is set for Nov. 20.</p>

<p>Luna began her career in 2009 as the main vocalist and lead dancer of the K-pop girl group f(x) — one of the first groups to cross over into the United States — and went on to establish herself as a musical theater actress. In 2011, the singer, born Park Sun-young, starred as Elle Woods in the South Korean production of “Legally Blonde.”</p>

<p>The same year she also starred as Violet Sanford in a musical adaptation of “Coyote Ugly” in Seoul. Since then, she has had lead roles in “High School Musical on Stage!” (2013), “In the Heights” (2015-16) and “Mamma Mia!” (2019-20).</p>

<p>Now, she’ll be starring in “KPOP.” The producers say that the Broadway version of the show will tell the story of one singer’s internal struggle, which in turn threatens to dismantle one of the biggest labels in the industry. At the same time, a host of international superstars are risking it all for a one-night-only concert.</p>

<p>“For those of you who already know and love K-pop music, this show is going to remind you why you fell in love with it in the first place,” Luna said. “For those of you yet to discover K-pop, get ready. We are going to blow you away.”</p>

Jimin was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and was tested positive for Covid-19. He underwent surgery following physician advice early morning on Monday, January 31. "</p>

<p>"According to the medical staff, the surgery was successful and Jimin is currently recuperating after his procedure. He will be receiving a few days of in-patient treatment for Covid-19 in conjunction with postoperative care. He is currently experiencing a mild sore throat but is making a speedy recovery, and had no contact with the other members during the infectious stage," it added.<br />

Jimin was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and was tested positive for Covid-19. He underwent surgery following physician advice early morning on Monday, January 31. " "According to the medical staff, the surgery was successful and Jimin is currently recuperating after his procedure. He will be receiving a few days of in-patient treatment for Covid-19 in conjunction with postoperative care. He is currently experiencing a mild sore throat but is making a speedy recovery, and had no contact with the other members during the infectious stage," it added. "The company places the artists' health as our top priority, and we will do everything we can to aid Jimin in his speedy recovery.
