<p>Speaking in Italian, Meloni also said that after their talks he now probably understood that what gets written about her doesn't correspond to her reality.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per a statement released by Justin Trudeau's office, the Canadian prime minister&nbsp;also raised his concerns about LGBTQ rights in Italy during the meeting. The statement added that the Italian prime minister had defended her government's position and stated that they were following court rulings related to LGBTQ matters.</p>

<p>While speaking to the press, Meloni pointed out that she hasn't changed any existing legislation on LGBTQ issues in Italy.</p>

<p>In March, Meloni's far-right-led government ordered city councils to stop the official recording of both parents in same-sex couples. Instead, they were instructed to only acknowledge the biological parent.</p>

<p>Italy's law doesn't recognise same-sex parents and Meloni has previously stated that every child is entitled to a mother and a father.</p>

<p>She also remarked that people identifying with a gender other than what was assigned to them at birth are victims of ideology. In a magazine interview in March, the Italian prime minister said "Being a man or a woman is rooted in who we are, and can’t be changed."</p>

According to a report by Global News on Wednesday (March 24), Dong had advised a senior Chinese diplomat in February 2021 that China should not release two Canadians — Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig — held there on&nbsp;espionage charges.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Spavor and Kovrig later returned to Canada in September 2021 after Chinese executive Meng Wanzhou was released from house arrest in Canada following a deal.&nbsp;Wanzhou, a&nbsp;Huawei senior executive, was put in house arrest in Canada on the request of the US&nbsp;which was seeking her extradition on fraud charges.</p>

<p>Citing unconfirmed media reports, the news agency Reuters reported on Thursday that Dong was accused of having ties to the Beijing government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Sitting (in) the government caucus is a privilege and my presence there may be seen by some as a conflict of duty and the wrong place to be as an independent investigation pursues the facts," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While NSICOP will look into the election interference angle, NSIRA will assess how Canada's security agencies responded to the allegations and handled foreign interference.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Trudeau also announced the appointment of an Independent Special Rapporteur to probe classified reports about Chinese muddling in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I will be appointing an independent special rapporteur, who will have a wide mandate and make expert recommendations on combating interference and strengthening our democracy," Trudeau told reporters in Parliament Hil, Ottawa.</p>

<p>Earlier on Friday, Canada announced over $23.5 million in support, including funds for demining projects and to counter chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.</p>

<p>The amendments had faced tremendous opposition from within the country. These were seen as a liberal attempt of forcing major changes in Canada's gun laws.</p>

<p>Among those voicing their opposition were indigenous leaders, premiers of territories and even members of the Liberal Party.</p>

<p>Several elements of the amendments led to the opposition. According to amendments, it was reportedly difficult to determine which guns were going to be banned and which ones would remain legal. Among those proposed to be banned were the guns widely used by licensed hunters and in rural community.</p>

<p>The amendments met fierce opposition from Conservative Party, NDP and Bloc MPs. Firearms rights groups were against the amendments as well.</p>

<p>Canada has placed a ban on foreigners buying property. The ban which took effect on Sunday aims to make homes available to Canadians facing a housing crunch.</p>

<p>It is not a blanket ban and allows certain individuals such as refugees and permanent residents who are not citizens to purchase the property. Furthermore, it only applies to city dwellings and not to recreational properties like summer cottages etc.</p>

<p>However, as per the Canadian Real Estate Association, the average home price last month fell to Can $630,000 (US $465,000) last month from more than Can $800,000 (US $590,000) at the start of 2022.</p>

<p>As per a June estimate by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation about 19 million housing units will be needed by 2030. This means that the construction of 5.8 million new homes is needed.</p>

<p>"However, Canadians can be reassured that the integrity of our elections was not compromised," he added.</p>

<p>At the G20 summit earlier this month, Trudeau raised allegations of Chinese meddling with President Xi Jinping but got an on-camera dressing down by Xi after their discussions were leaked to the media.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino declined to comment on specific RCMP probes, but added: "We take allegations of foreign interference very seriously."</p>

<p>On Monday, a Chinese electric battery researcher facing charges of industrial espionage was granted bail.</p>

<p>Yuesheng Wang, 35, allegedly used his position at public utility Hydro Quebec to conduct research for a Chinese university and filed patents "in association with this foreign actor," using proprietary information.</p>

<p>The RCMP has also said it is looking into China's use of illegal police stations in Toronto to carry out policing operations on foreign soil - which Beijing has denied as "completely false."</p>

<p>The strategy mentions that despite the multiple threats posed by China, there's a need for cooperation on urgent issues such as climate change, global health, biodiversity and nuclear non-proliferation.&nbsp;</p>

The policy also mentions strict foreign investment rules to protect intellectual property, in order to prevent Chinese state-owned enterprises from snapping up critical mineral supplies. The 26-page document added: "China's rise, enabled by the same international rules and norms that it now increasingly disregards, has had an enormous impact on the Indo-Pacific, and it has ambitions to become the leading power in the region." Media reports claimed that the Chinese president confronted Trudeau for leaking the details of a conversation that happened between them on Tuesday to media.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But China's foreign ministry said that Xi was not criticising the Canadian PM. In a regular media briefing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that Beijing supports having frank exchanges as long as they are held on an equal basis. Mao also added that China hopes Canada will take action to improve bilateral ties.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking in Mandarin, Xi further said that "If there is sincerity, we can communicate well with mutual respect, otherwise the outcome will not be easy to tell."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The claim that Iran's regime sentenced 15,000 people to death has been swirling across social media platforms for some days and Trudeau became one of the major personalities to fall for it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Prime Minister's Office released a statement confirming that the tweet was deleted based on “initial reporting” that “lacked necessary context", stopping short of apologising for the gaffe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It [the tweet]&nbsp;was based on reporting of serious concerns raised by international human rights advocates warning of possible future sentences, including the death penalty, imposed on thousands of Iranian protesters who have already been detained by the regime,” said a government spokesperson.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the now-deleted tweet, Trudeau said, “Canada denounces the Iranian regime’s barbaric decision to impose the death penalty on nearly 15,000 protestors,” Trudeau’s now-deleted tweet read.</p>

<p>“These brave Iranians were fighting for their human rights – and we continue to stand united in support of them, and united against the regime’s heinous actions," he added.</p>

Bloomberg reported that Xi spoke with Trudeau at the closing session of the summit at G20 with the help of a translator and discussed the conversation that was leaked to a paper. The Chinese president said, "Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper, that’s not appropriate." In response, Trudeau interrupted the translator to say, "We believe in free and open and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to look to work constructively together but there will be things we will disagree on." A video of the conversation, a rare behind-the-scenes incident, went viral on social media platforms.
