<p>A couple of weeks after comparing Xi Jinping to 'dictators', US President Joe Biden has revealed that he warned the Chinese president of getting too close with Russia. In an interview with CNN, Biden said that he told Xi following his meeting with Russia's Vladimir Putin that Beijing needs to "be careful" as it relies on Western investments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I said: This is not a threat. This is an observation. Since Russia went into Ukraine, 600 American corporations have pulled out of Russia," said Biden.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"And you have told me that your economy depends on investment from Europe and the United States. And be careful. Be careful," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Quizzed what Xi said in response to the veiled threat, Biden said: "He listened, and he didn't...argue. And if you notice, he has not gone full-bore in on Russia. So, I think there's a way we can work through this."</p>

<p>Biden's statement comes at a time when US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is currently in Beijing on a four-day trip to seemingly repair the broken ties. During one of her addresses in China,&nbsp;Yellen said complete decoupling of the US and Chinese economies was "impossible".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We seek to diversify, not to decouple. A decoupling of the world's two largest economies would be destabilising for the global economy," Yellen told representatives of US businesses at a session hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.</p>

<p>"And it would be virtually impossible to undertake."</p>

Biden heads to Europe amid heated debate over giving cluster munitions to Kyiv

80-year-old Joe Biden has been dogged by salacious reporting over his son Hunter's troubled private life. The trained lawyer's battle with severe drug addiction has been well-documented. The cocaine revelation immediately sparked unsubstantiated speculation in right-wing circles that the recovering drug user was somehow responsible. Trump himself jumped on the bandwagon with a typically rambling, insult-laden message.

Cocaine at White House: Republicans flag Hunter Biden's well-documented battle with drug addiction

<p>US President Joe Biden took the stage on Thursday (July 6) in South Carolina and sought to highlight a 60 million dollars Solar investment in the latest underlining of his economic policies, dubbed 'Bidenomics'. The president, who is contesting 2024 elections to get reelected to the Oval Office, is trying to turn the tables on Republicans by blunting their traditional talking points on the economy, boasting that he is a pro-growth president.</p>

<p>"Investment is working, and factories are being built, and jobs are being created... in rural America, the heartland, all across America, in communities that have been left out and hollowed out," he said.</p>

<p>Biden seeks to win over voters from the working and middle class in those "hollowed-out" communities, but he has a lot of work to do. Polls do not show the message has got through.</p>

<p>Majority of surveyed Americans have told pollsters that they trust former President Donald Trump more than they do Biden.</p>

<p>Biden has attempted to underline that he deserves that trust more. During his speech in South Carolina, Biden presented statistics to drive home his point.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Unemployment has remained consistently under four percent for the longest period in half a century, painful inflation rates from the aftermath of the Covid pandemic are slowly but steadily receding, and job creation is booming.</p>

<p>Biden was speaking at a plant where solar firm Enphase Energy is collaborating with manufacturer Flex Ltd. He told workers at the plant that the changing situation was not an accident but a result of historic government investment and incentive packages with were passed by his government.</p>

<p>For example, Enphase Energy and Flex Ltd are using tax incentives from Biden's mammoth Inflation Reduction Act to juice some $60 million in investments, including 600 new jobs in South Carolina.</p>

<p>"Since I took office, we have attracted a half a trillion dollars -- $497 billion -- in private investment in American manufacturing, both here and around the world. &nbsp; It's historic, and it's Bidenomics in action," Biden said.</p>

<h2><strong>Ribbing the Republicans</strong></h2>

<p>Biden sought to mock Republicans who tried to stop spending bills.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"All those members of Congress who voted against it suddenly realize how great it is, and they're bragging about it. &nbsp; As my mother would say, 'God love them.'" said Biden.</p>

<p>Biden was speaking in Republican stronghold. South Carolina hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential nomination since 1976. Just a week ago, former US president Donald Trump held a large election campaign rally. The response is being perceived as Trump's grievance-laden message remains powerful.</p>

US President Joe Biden took the stage on Thursday (July 6) in South Carolina and sought to highlight a 60 million dollars Solar investment in the latest underlining of his economic policies, dubbed 'Bidenomics'. The president, who is contesting 2024 elections to get reelected to the Oval Office, is trying to turn the tables on Republicans by blunting their traditional talking points on the economy, boasting that he is a pro-growth president. "Investment is working, and factories are being built, and jobs are being created... in rural America, the heartland, all across America, in communities that have been left out and hollowed out," he said. Biden seeks to win over voters from the working and middle class in those "hollowed-out" communities, but he has a lot of work to do. Polls do not show the message has got through. Majority of surveyed Americans have told pollsters that they trust former President Donald Trump more than they do Biden. Watch | Cocaine at White House: Republicans flag Hunter Biden's well-documented battle with drug addiction × Biden has attempted to underline that he deserves that trust more. During his speech in South Carolina, Biden presented statistics to drive home his point. Unemployment has remained consistently under four percent for the longest period in half a century, painful inflation rates from the aftermath of the Covid pandemic are slowly but steadily receding, and job creation is booming. Biden was speaking at a plant where solar firm Enphase Energy is collaborating with manufacturer Flex Ltd. He told workers at the plant that the changing situation was not an accident but a result of historic government investment and incentive packages with were passed by his government. For example, Enphase Energy and Flex Ltd are using tax incentives from Biden's mammoth Inflation Reduction Act to juice some $60 million in investments, including 600 new jobs in South Carolina. "Since I took office, we have attracted a half a trillion dollars -- $497 billion -- in private investment in American manufacturing, both here and around the world. It's historic, and it's Bidenomics in action," Biden said. Ribbing the Republicans Biden sought to mock Republicans who tried to stop spending bills. "All those members of Congress who voted against it suddenly realize how great it is, and they're bragging about it. As my mother would say, 'God love them.'" said Biden. Biden was speaking in Republican stronghold. South Carolina hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential nomination since 1976. Just a week ago, former US president Donald Trump held a large election campaign rally. The response is being perceived as Trump's grievance-laden message remains powerful. White House cocaine row: Trump says he has no doubt it was for 'use of Hunter and Joe Biden'

<p>The United States seems to be laying the groundwork to end the Russia-Ukraine war, as reports coming to the fore claim that a meeting was held recently between former senior US security officials and Russians close&nbsp;to the Kremlin.</p>

<p>NBC News, quoting sources close to the discussions, reported that a high-level back-channel diplomacy—called Track Two diplomacy in diplomatic parlance— took place in April between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and senior former US officials in New York.</p>

<p>The discussions also pertained to keeping the channels of communication with Russia open where possible and to feel out where there might be room for future negotiation, compromise and diplomacy over ending the war.</p>

<p>The video which was released by the Kremlin shows Putin welcoming the girl, eight-year-old Raisat Akipova. It featured a bizarre call, in which the child asks the Russian finance minister for a grant for her home region of Dagestan, which is situated in Russia's North Caucasus.</p>

<p>As per Reuters, initially, Anton Siluanov seemed bemused by the girl's demands and failed to respond to her greetings. However, he soon agrees to extra funding of five billion roubles for her home region in Russia's south.</p>

<p>"Excellent!" responded the Russian President. He then tells the girl: "We've got five billion roubles for Dagestan". Five billion roubles is around 55.6 million USD.</p>

Amid international condemnation triggered by the conflict, on Tuesday, the Kremlin released a video that seems to be designed to portray the leader as caring and concerned. In the video, President Putin is joined by an eight-year-old Russian girl seeking a budget grant from Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov. A bizarre call The video which was released by the Kremlin shows Putin welcoming the girl, eight-year-old Raisat Akipova. It featured a bizarre call, in which the child asks the Russian finance minister for a grant for her home region of Dagestan, which is situated in Russia's North Caucasus. As per Reuters, initially, Anton Siluanov seemed bemused by the girl's demands and failed to respond to her greetings. However, he soon agrees to extra funding of five billion roubles for her home region in Russia's south. "Excellent!" responded the Russian President. He then tells the girl: "We've got five billion roubles for Dagestan". Five billion roubles is around 55.6 million USD. The video shows Putin chuckling with amusement during the conversations. Later, the little girl holding a bouquet of flowers thanked Siluanov when prompted by the Russian president. Reuters reports that Putin told Raisat that he had invited her and her parents to Moscow because a picture of her in tears after failing to see him on his Dagestan trip had distressed the leader. The little girl's visit as per Reuters is a sequel to Putin's visit to Dagestan last week where he was seen mingling with a large crowd of people. The mutiny had prompted warnings of the risk of civil war in Russia. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. <p>US President Joe Biden's son Hunter supposedly filmed himself smoking crack while driving a car at a speed of 172 miles per hour (around 276 kmph) &nbsp;as he was on his way to Las Vegas, Nevada. According to a report by Marca last Sunday (July 2), the visual is part of thousands of photos that were recently found in Hunter's discarded laptop.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the leaked photo from 2018, Hunter, now aged 53, could be seen holding a crack pipe, then lighting and smoking it as he drove through a road full of houses, which was later recognised as Arlington, Virginia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another photo showed Hunter traveling to Vegas, driving a Porsche at high-speed. The report said messages on the discarded laptop suggested a hot tub party with multiple women waiting for him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hunter had been a drug addict and confessed to abusing cocaine as a college student. He has been in and out of rehabilitation. In his memoir <em>Beautiful Things</em>, the 53-year-old talked about not being able to make it home from the corner liquor store with a plastic jug of vodka without taking a swig of it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Though Hunter has admitted to cleaning up his act, the leaked photos haunt him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that half of the American citizens believed that Hunter received preferential treatment from prosecutors who reached a deal that would allow him to plead guilty to tax charges but avoid a gun-related conviction.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes as US Attorney &nbsp;David Weiss said that Hunter agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanour charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes and to enter into an agreement that could avert a conviction on a gun-related charge.</p>

<p>The poll, which closed on June 21, showed that Americans were divided along partisan lines in their views on the case, with 75% of Republicans seeing preferential treatment compared with just 33% of Democrats.</p>

Morning brief: France protests, Joe Biden's new measures for student loan relief, and more

A fresh set of initiatives to help millions of students financially are announced by US President Joe Biden. The news was made shortly after the Biden Administration's student loan forgiveness programme was completely repealed by the Supreme Court. The programme that was overturned waived off 430 billion dollars in student loan debt. In addition to criticising what he called Republican hypocrisy, Biden stated that millions of American schoolchildren are outraged by the court's decision.

<p>US President Joe Biden will host Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson next week in the White House amid the Quran burning controversy, AFP reported. The two leaders will talk about Sweden’s bid to join NATO and the war in Ukraine during the July 5 meeting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Biden and Kristersson "will review our growing security cooperation and reaffirm their view that Sweden should join NATO as soon as possible," said the White House in a statement.</p>

<h2><strong>NATO chief calls meeting over Sweden</strong></h2>

<p>Earlier, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday said that a meeting between officials from Turkey, Sweden and Finland will be held on July 6 in Brussels to discuss Sweden’s NATO membership. “The time is now to welcome Sweden as a full member of NATO," he said at&nbsp;a press conference.</p>

<p>Sweden’s entry into NATO will be a symbolic moment for the Western alliance as it will indicate how Russia’s war in Ukraine is driving more and more European nations towards the West.</p>

<h2><strong>Turkey-Sweden tensions over Quran burning</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, the tensions between Turkey and Sweden are running red-hot over the Quran-burning incident in Stockholm earlier this week. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier this week hinted that this would pose another obstacle to Sweden’s bid to join NATO. Speaking to members of his Justice and Development Party, Erdogan drew a comparison between “those who permitted the crime” and those who perpetrated it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We will eventually teach Western monuments of hubris that insulting Muslims’ sacred values is not freedom of thought,” Erdogan said.</p>

<p>Turkey has long criticised Sweden for displaying leniency when dealing with anti-Turkey Kurdish groups, which Ankara sees as terrorists. Turkey accuses these Kurdish groups of being involved in a prolonged and deadly insurgency.</p>

<p>Although Sweden has recently made changes to its anti-terror legislation pertaining to these groups, Turkey argues that supporters of these organisations are able to freely organise demonstrations, recruit new members, and obtain financial resources within Sweden.</p>

<p>Now, the Quran burning incident has further strained ties between Turkey and Sweden. Anti-Sweden protests were held in Ankara earlier this week, where the protestors burnt the flags of Sweden outside the Swedish embassy.</p>

<h2><strong>Hungary also yet to ratify Sweden’s membership</strong></h2>

<p>Apart from Turkey, Hungary is also yet to ratify Sweden’s bid to join NATO. Hungarian lawmakers have announced that the parliamentary vote on ratifying Sweden's NATO membership, which has already faced delays, will not take place until the autumn legislative session.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since NATO requires unanimous approval from all member countries to expand, it is highly unlikely that Sweden will receive the green light in time for the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for July 11-12 in Vilnius, Lithuania.</p>

US President Joe Biden will host Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson next week in the White House amid the Quran burning controversy, AFP reported. The two leaders will talk about Sweden’s bid to join NATO and the war in Ukraine during the July 5 meeting. Biden and Kristersson "will review our growing security cooperation and reaffirm their view that Sweden should join NATO as soon as possible," said the White House in a statement. NATO chief calls meeting over Sweden Earlier, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday said that a meeting between officials from Turkey, Sweden and Finland will be held on July 6 in Brussels to discuss Sweden’s NATO membership. “The time is now to welcome Sweden as a full member of NATO," he said at a press conference. Sweden’s entry into NATO will be a symbolic moment for the Western alliance as it will indicate how Russia’s war in Ukraine is driving more and more European nations towards the West. Turkey-Sweden tensions over Quran burning Meanwhile, the tensions between Turkey and Sweden are running red-hot over the Quran-burning incident in Stockholm earlier this week. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier this week hinted that this would pose another obstacle to Sweden’s bid to join NATO. Speaking to members of his Justice and Development Party, Erdogan drew a comparison between “those who permitted the crime” and those who perpetrated it. “We will eventually teach Western monuments of hubris that insulting Muslims’ sacred values is not freedom of thought,” Erdogan said. Turkey has long criticised Sweden for displaying leniency when dealing with anti-Turkey Kurdish groups, which Ankara sees as terrorists. Turkey accuses these Kurdish groups of being involved in a prolonged and deadly insurgency. Watch: Sweden permits Quran burning protests - World News × Although Sweden has recently made changes to its anti-terror legislation pertaining to these groups, Turkey argues that supporters of these organisations are able to freely organise demonstrations, recruit new members, and obtain financial resources within Sweden. Now, the Quran burning incident has further strained ties between Turkey and Sweden. Anti-Sweden protests were held in Ankara earlier this week, where the protestors burnt the flags of Sweden outside the Swedish embassy. Hungary also yet to ratify Sweden’s membership Apart from Turkey, Hungary is also yet to ratify Sweden’s bid to join NATO. Hungarian lawmakers have announced that the parliamentary vote on ratifying Sweden's NATO membership, which has already faced delays, will not take place until the autumn legislative session. Also read: Sweden’s NATO bid in jeopardy after allowing Quran burning as Ankara seethes Since NATO requires unanimous approval from all member countries to expand, it is highly unlikely that Sweden will receive the green light in time for the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for July 11-12 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Taliban govt in Afghanistan is helping US to 'end' Al-Qaeda: President Joe Biden

<p>In a scathing indictment of the Biden administration’s handling of the Afghanistan crisis during the final set of events that led to Taliban’s takeover of power in 2021, the US State Department confirmed Washington’s bureaucratic sluggishness as a significant reason behind the chaos that gripped West’s evacuation from Afghanistan and successive fall of democratically-elected Ashraf Ghani government.</p>

<p>The 21-page report highlighted that both former President Donald Trump and President Biden failed to grasp the consequences of a US military withdrawal on the stability of the erstwhile Afghan government.&nbsp;</p>

Both Trump and Biden responsible for Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan: US state department

<p>After millions of Americans expressed anger over Supreme Court bringing down the student loan relief programme, United States President Joe Biden announced new measures to ease the financial burden.</p>

<p>"I know there are millions of Americans in this country who feel disappointed and discouraged or even a little bit angry," Biden said. "I must admit I do too."</p>

<p>He announced measures to "provide student debt relief to as many borrowers as possible, as quickly as possible."</p>

<p>One of the measures is a 12-month pause on penalties for missing debt repayments on federal loans used by many students to finance their time in the expensive US higher education system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This will "protect the most vulnerable borrowers," the White House said.</p>

<p>Another measure announced is a change to the repayment plans by the Department of Education, with a cut in the percentage of borrower's available income that must be paid each month toward loans from 10 to five per cent.</p>

<h2><strong>Supreme court rejects Biden's $400bn student debt cancellation plan</strong></h2>

<p>US President Joe Biden on Friday suffered a significant political setback as US Supreme Court overruled his key programme to cancel the student loans of millions of Americans.</p>

<p>The court said Biden had overstepped his powers in cancelling more than $400 billion in debt, in an effort to alleviate the financial burden of education that hangs over many Americans decades after they finished their studies.</p>

<p>The court said Biden was mistaken in using a 2003 law, the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act, to justify the debt relief plan.</p>

<p>Six Republican-led states sued saying the 2003 Act, which aimed to help former students who joined the military after the September 11, 2001 attacks, does not authorise Biden's loan cancellation.</p>

<p>"We agree," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion.</p>

<p>"The question here is not whether something should be done; it is who has the authority to do it," he said.</p>

<p>Biden said his administration would pursue a different way to achieve his goal.</p>

<p>"Today’s decision has closed one path. Now we’re going to start another," Biden told reporters. "I believe the court's decision to strike down my student debt relief program was a mistake, was wrong. I'm not going to stop fighting to deliver borrowers what they need, particularly those at the bottom end of the economic scale."</p>

<p>Biden announced the student loan cancellation plan in August 2022. He said that up to USD 20,000 per borrower would be forgiven, given that the borrower comes from low or middle-income groups.</p>

<p>The plan came on the back of a student loan payment freeze instituted by his predecessor Donald Trump during the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>

The US Supreme Court has effectively banned Universities from using race in admissions. The US Supreme Court rules 6-3 to end affirmative action. US President Joe Biden comments on the same stating how he disagrees with the decision and how colleges and the country are stronger when its racially diverse.

Next year's elections will mark America's 60th presidential contest. Joe Biden is leading a drive to support Ukraine's resistance to the Russian invasion launched in February. Recently however in a new verbal, Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin was losing the war in Iraq when he meant to say Ukraine.

Biden's mental fitness: poll finds majority has concerns about this

<p>Politicians are no strangers to blunders, but US President Joe Biden seems to have developed a knack for them, with his latest verbal mishap involving a mix-up of historic proportions. In an astonishing slip of the tongue, Biden found himself referring to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as the Iraq war, distinct events separated by more than a decade.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While departing the White House Wednesday, Biden was asked on the South Lawn by reporters how weakened Putin was in the aftermath of this weekend's aborted uprising by the Russian mercenary group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Biden responded with uncertainty, stating, "It's hard to tell really" and mistakenly referred to Ukraine as Iraq. "He's clearly losing the war in Iraq. He's losing the war at home and has become a bit of a pariah around the world," Biden said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The president's gaffe occurred as he was going to Chicago to deliver a speech on his administration's economic policies, commonly referred to as "Bidenomics." According to the Daily Mail, Biden was even carrying a notecard labeled "Daily News Summary" on the Wagner mutiny during the time of his gaffe but still seemed to manage the gaffe.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Previous blunder</strong></h2>

<p>This blunder marks the second instance within a short period, as Biden had made a similar mistake during a fundraiser in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Tuesday night where he once again mentioned Iraq when referring to the war in Ukraine. Biden's latest gaffe overshadowed his intended message regarding the situation in Ukraine and Putin's "pariah" status.&nbsp;</p>

Politicians are no strangers to blunders, but US President Joe Biden seems to have developed a knack for them, with his latest verbal mishap involving a mix-up of historic proportions. In an astonishing slip of the tongue, Biden found himself referring to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as the Iraq war, distinct events separated by more than a decade. While departing the White House Wednesday, Biden was asked on the South Lawn by reporters how weakened Putin was in the aftermath of this weekend's aborted uprising by the Russian mercenary group. <p>Joe Biden’s approval rating stands at 43 per cent in the latest NBC News national poll. This is not enough to translate into a re-election win. However, another 10 per cent of registered voters say they only "somewhat disapprove" of Biden’s performance. Biden uses breathing machine to treat his sleep apnea, White House reveals

Next year's election will mark America's 60th Presidential contest. Joe Biden is leading a western drive to support Ukraine's resistance to the Russian invasion launched in February last year. In a new verbal slip-up, the US President said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was losing the war in Iraq, when he meant to say Ukraine. It was the second slip-up in 24 hours. On Tuesday, Biden corrected himself at a fundraising event - referring to China when he meant India, whose Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, visited the White House a week ago. The miscues are not unusual for the 80-year-old President.
