Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed "profound shock" over videos showing two emaciated hostages in Gaza, with the EU also denouncing the clips on Sunday and demanding the release of all remaining captives after nearly 22 months of war.Over the past few days, Hamas and its ally Islamic Jihad have released three videos showing two hostages seized during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel that triggered the ongoing war in Gaza. The images of Rom Braslavski and Evyatar David have sparked strong reactions among Israelis, fuelling renewed calls to reach a truce and hostage release deal without delay. A statement from Netanyahu's office late Saturday said he had spoken with the families of the two hostages and "expressed profound shock over the materials distributed by the terror organisations". Netanyahu "told the families that the efforts to return all our hostages are ongoing", the statement added. Earlier in the day, tens of thousands of people had rallied in the coastal hub of Tel Aviv to urge Netanyahu's government to secure the release of the remaining captives. In the clips shared by the Palestinian Islamist groups, 21-year-old Braslavski, a German-Israeli dual national, and 24-year-old David both appear weak and malnourished. There was particular outrage in Israel over images of David who appeared to be digging what he said in the staged video was his own grave. The videos make references to the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where UN-mandated experts have warned a "famine is unfolding".EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the images "are appalling and expose the barbarity of Hamas", calling for the release of "all hostages... immediately and unconditionally".
'Hamas must disarm'
Kallas said in the same post on X that "Hamas must disarm and end its rule in Gaza" -- demands endorsed earlier this week by Arab countries, including key mediators Qatar and Egypt. UN agencies, aid groups and analysts say that much of the trickle of food aid that Israel allows in is looted by gangs or diverted in chaotic circumstances rather than reaching those most in need. Many desperate Palestinians are left to risk their lives under fire seeking what aid is distributed through controlled channels. On Sunday, Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli fire killed nine Palestinians who were waiting to collect food rations from a site operated by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Israeli attacks elsewhere killed another 10 people on Sunday, said civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal.
'Emaciated and desperate'
Israeli newspapers dedicated their front pages on Sunday to the plight of the hostages, with Maariv decrying "hell in Gaza" and Yedioth Ahronoth showing a "malnourished, emaciated and desperate" David. Left-leaning Haaretz declared that "Netanyahu is in no rush" to rescue the captives, echoing claims by critics that the longtime leader has prolonged the war for his own political survival. In his conversations with Braslavski and David's families on Saturday, Netanyahu accused Hamas of "deliberately starving our hostages", and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he was "initiating a special UN Security Council meeting on the issue of the Israeli hostages". Braslavski and David are among the 49 hostages taken during Hamas's 2023 attack who are still being held in Gaza, including 27 the Israeli military says, are dead. Nearly 9 out of 10 Israeli military probes into alleged war crimes or misconduct by its troops in Gaza since the war began have either been closed without fault or left unresolved, a new report claims. UK-based group Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) has reached this conclusion after tracking 52 publicly reported investigations between October 2023 and June 2025. These incidents collectively involved the deaths of over 1,300 Palestinians and injuries to nearly 1,900 more. But according to AOAV, only six cases so far have resulted in any disciplinary action—and just one led to a soldier serving a few months behind bars.
Israel's unpunished war crimes
These war crimes, as reported by the Guardian, include incidents where Palestinians queueing for food were gunned down and an instance where a soldier attacked bound and blindfolded prisoners with fists and a baton. Among the still-unresolved cases are some of the most shocking civilian death tolls in the conflict: – The February 2024 flour queue airstrike in Gaza City that killed at least 112 – The May firebombing of a tent camp in Rafah that killed 45 – The June 1 shooting of 31 civilians trying to collect food at a Rafah distribution point. Even as witnesses said Israeli forces opened fire on unarmed civilians, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) initially dismissed the reports as "false," before later claiming that the incident was still "under review."
Israel's pattern of impunity
AOAV's researchers, Iain Overton and Lucas Tsantzouris, suggest that the data suggests that Israel was seeking to create a "pattern of impunity" by delaying, burying, or clearing allegations of wrongdoing even in cases involving "the most severe or public accusations of wrongdoing by their forces".The IDF, however, insists it was meeting both Israeli and international legal standards. It claims it "conducts examination and investigation processes regarding exceptional incidents that occurred during operational activity, in which there is a suspicion of a violation of the law". It said it uses a dual system — a military police division under the advocate general for criminal enquiries and a fact-finding assessment (FFA) team that gathers preliminary information. But critics, including the Israeli rights group Yesh Din, argue the process is opaque, slow, and rarely leads to meaningful accountability. Of 664 FFA investigations opened after previous Gaza operations, only one led to a prosecution, said the group. In its most recent update, in August 2024, the IDF said it had launched 74 criminal probes since the war began, including 52 related to detainee deaths or mistreatment. Only a handful involve suspected war crimes during combat. Most others involve theft, property damage, or alleged abuse. The one case that led to jail time involved a reservist who beat blindfolded prisoners at the Sde Teiman detention facility. He was sentenced to seven months. Another rare example of disciplinary action came after seven World Central Kitchen aid workers were killed in an April airstrike. A colonel and a major were dismissed, and three officers were reprimanded. The IDF called it a "grave mistake" caused by a misidentification, but the charity later dismissed the probe as lacking credibility.

The Israeli military on Sunday (July 27) announced “tactical pauses” in fighting for “humanitarian purposes” in parts of Gaza amid rising criticism over the worsening hunger crisis spreading in the Palestinian enclave. The military said it would cease activity in Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City from 10 am to 8 pm (0700-1700 GMT) until further notice, areas where it had not renewed ground operations since March, when it resumed its Gaza offensive. Designated secure routes for convoys delivering food and medicine will also be in place permanently from 6 am until 11 pm, the military said. This came hours after Israel began aid airdrops in what it described as an effort to ease the humanitarian conditions in the enclave. Meanwhile, the Egyptian state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV said that aid started moving towards Gaza from Egypt. Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said, “This decision was coordinated with the UN and international organisations following discussions regarding the matter…The IDF will continue to support humanitarian efforts alongside ongoing manoeuvring and offensive operations against terrorist organisations in Gaza, in order to protect Israeli civilians. The IDF is prepared to expand the scale of this activity as required.” The IDF also shared footage from the airdrop of humanitarian aid in Gaza, stating that “there is no starvation in Gaza” and it is a “false campaign promoted by Hamas.”

Malnutrition in Gaza
International alarm over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has increased. Aid organisations said last week there was mass hunger among Gaza's 2.2 million people, with food running out after Israel cut off all supplies to the territory in March, before resuming it in May with new restrictions. On Thursday (July 24), the UN said humanitarian pauses in Gaza would allow "the scale up of humanitarian assistance" and said Israel had not been providing enough route alternatives for its convoys, hindering aid access. Dozens of Gazans have died of malnutrition in the past few weeks, according to the Gaza Health Ministry in the Hamas-run enclave. A total of 127 people have died due to malnutrition, including 85 children, since the start of the war, the ministry said. Israel says there is no starvation in Gaza and that the aid halt was meant to pressure Hamas into giving up dozens of hostages it is still holding in Gaza. After letting in aid in May, Israel said there was enough food in Gaza but that the United Nations was failing to distribute it. The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants stormed southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages back to Gaza. Since then, Israel's offensive against Hamas has killed nearly 60,000 people in Gaza, and displaced nearly the entire population.
Trump tells Israel to ‘finish the job’ against Hamas
US President Donald Trump on Friday (July 25) said that Israel should escalate its military campaign in Gaza and “clean it up” after Hamas rejected a US-backed ceasefire proposal, suggesting the militant group has no interest in peace. “Hamas really didn’t want to make a deal. I think they want to die. It’s very, very bad. It got to be to a point where you have to finish the job,” Trump wrote on Truth Social before leaving for a trip to Scotland. Trump's announcement came after Steve Witkoff, US' Middle East envoy said that the United States was pulling back from ongoing negotiations to reassess strategy in Washington. “Now we’re down to the final hostages, and they know what happens after you get the final hostages,” Trump said. “Basically because of that, they really didn’t want to make a deal.” Trump signaled that diplomacy may no longer be viable. “They’ll have to fight and clean it up,” he said, backing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s military campaign. “They (Hamas) will be hunted down.”

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer continues to resist calls to recognise a Palestinian state even as he confirmed his government's plan to airdrop aid into Gaza and evacuate children who need medical access to help relieve what Downing Street has labelled an appalling situation. Reports suggest that amid mass starvation in Gaza, the UK PM is facing pressure from inside his cabinet and MPs to recognise a Palestinian state - around 221 MPs one third of the House of Commons on Saturday (Jul 26) have signed a letter urging him to that end.
A Palestinian statehood
As Gaza sinks deeper into a humanitarian nightmare, more than 221 British MPs, including members of the prime minister's own front bench, have signed a letter urging him to make a formal announcement recognising Palestinian statehood at a UN conference next week. The coordinated push, led by Labour MP Sarah Champion, calls on the UK government to finally act on its long-standing commitment to a two-state solution."We are expectant that the outcome of the conference will be the UK Government outlining when and how it will act on its long-standing commitment on a two-state solution; as well as how it will work with international partners to make this a reality," said the ministers. As per Mirror, Champion acknowledged that "recognition alone will not end the suffering in Gaza" but said that it would be an important step towards a two-state solution and eventually the end of the war."Recognition would send a powerful symbolic message that we support the rights of the Palestinian people, that they are not alone and they need to maintain hope that there is a route that leads to lasting peace and security for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people," she said.
UK's efforts to relieve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza
In an op-ed published Friday night, Starmer acknowledged the horror unfolding in Gaza. "It must be part of a wider plan which ultimately results in a two-state solution and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis," he wrote. Starmer said that this was the "way to ensure that recognition is a tool of maximum impact to improve the lives of those who are suffering – which must always be our ultimate goal."

A severe and fast-worsening hunger crisis is sweeping Gaza, where rates of malnutrition among children under five have tripled in just two weeks, revealed Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The medical charity in a statement on Friday (Jul 25) warned that a quarter of all young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women it screened last week were malnourished. At its Gaza City clinic alone, MSF said the number of patients seeking treatment for malnutrition has quadrupled since May.The organisation directly blamed Israel for what it described as a “deliberate policy of starvation” for the hunger crisis. In a statement, the group said that “Israeli authorities’ deliberate use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels, with patients and healthcare workers themselves now fighting to survive.”
People dying of hunger
At least 122 people have died of hunger in Gaza, with nine deaths reported in the past 24 hours alone, according to local health officials. However, many believe the true death toll is higher — and growing. The World Food Programme on Friday, echoed the alarm, saying nearly one in three people in Gaza are now going without food for days at a time. The hunger crisis had reached "new and astonishing levels of desperation" it said, adding, "Nearly one person in three is not eating for days. Malnutrition is surging, with 90,000 women and children in urgent need of treatment".Talking to AFP, Naji al-Qurashali, an obstetrician-gynaecologist in Gaza, said that the reported statistics underestimate the harrowing reality. He estimated that at least 50 per cent of the hundreds of pregnant women he saw every day were suffering from malnutrition."The malnutrition situation is unimaginable. Throughout my entire medical career, I never expected, not even in my wildest dreams, that things would reach this level," he said. According to the Gaza doctor the number of miscarriages has increased as starving women struggled to find food to feed themselves.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has directly blamed Israel for what it described as a “deliberate policy of starvation” for the hunger crisis.

At its Gaza City clinic alone, MSF said the number of patients seeking treatment for malnutrition has quadrupled since May. The organisation directly blamed Israel for what it described as a “deliberate policy of starvation” for the hunger crisis. In a statement, the group said that “Israeli authorities’ deliberate use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels, with patients and healthcare workers themselves now fighting to survive.” People dying of hunger At least 122 people have died of hunger in Gaza, with nine deaths reported in the past 24 hours alone, according to local health officials. However, many believe the true death toll is higher — and growing. The World Food Programme on Friday, echoed the alarm, saying nearly one in three people in Gaza are now going without food for days at a time. 'Horror show': Gaza hospital says 21 children die of starvation in 3 days as Israeli assault continues

Amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's army has targeted multiple people during the distribution of humanitarian aid. On Sunday (July 20), at least 73 people were killed, of whom 51 were waiting for humanitarian aid. Not only that, but more than 60 people were injured when the Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid in the Al-Sudaniya area in Gaza City. Moreover, multiple incidents unfolded where people died due to malnutrition and hunger in Gaza, including children. Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said on Sunday that the organisation is receiving multiple messages seeking help and food daily. The organisation took to the social media platform X and posted one of the messages by a Gazan seeking food for his children. "I’ve been searching for something to feed my children, but there is nothing," the message read. UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, said, "Daily SOS messages are coming in from our starving UNRWA colleagues, every day. How can one respond to such messages of despair? Shames me & doubles the sense of helplessness." "All man-made, in total impunity," he added.

"Food is available only a few kilometres away. UNRWA alone has enough stock available outside of Gaza for the entire population for the next 3 months. ‘Blatant violation of sanctity’: Two killed, priest injured after Israeli strike on only Catholic church in Gaza; Pope Leo XIV reacts

Israel has unveiled a controversial plan to build a so-called "humanitarian city" in southern Gaza. Tel Aviv, which has been at war with Hamas in Gaza for over 21 months, has proposed a city with a "closed zone" where it wants to house around 600,000 of the people displaced from southern Gaza. However, the proposed project has come under intense fire, with critics warning that it may amount to a "war crime" – a distraction at best and a blueprint towards ethnic cleansing at worst. So, what is it? A concentration camp reminiscent of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany, or a place of shelter for hundreds of thousands of displaced Gazans? Here's all we know.
What is Israel proposing?
First unveiled last week by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, the plan envisions constructing a walled encampment in southern Gaza during a proposed 60-day ceasefire. The area, as per AFP, would initially house 600,000 displaced Palestinians, and eventually, Israel intends to relocate the entire Gaza population, over two million people, into this zone.Katz has described it as a civilian aid hub with four international distribution centres, secured by Israeli forces, albeit "from a distance." But new arrivals would be screened for Hamas ties and not permitted to leave once admitted, except to go to other countries, Katz said. The project is reportedly backed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Why is it so controversial?
Critics, including officials from UN agencies to *Israeli officials — say the humanitarian city is neither humane nor a city, but rather a mass detention site being planned under the guise of humanitarian relief. "It is a concentration camp. I am sorry," said former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in an interview with The Guardian. "If they [Palestinians] will be deported into the new ‘humanitarian city’, then you can say that this is part of an ethnic cleansing. It hasn’t yet happened.". He said that this would be the "inevitable interpretation" of any attempt to create a camp for hundreds of thousands of people. His sentiments were echoed by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) which said that the "plan would de-facto create massive concentration camps at the border with Egypt". Slamming the proposal Britain's minister for the Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer has said he is "appalled" by the idea. On X, he insisted that "Palestinian territory must not be reduced...Civilians must be able to return to their communities."
What would it cost?
Estimates, as published by AFP, peg the cost of the proposed facility between 10 and 20 billion shekels ($3–6 billion). This huge expense would come on top of the economic burden of the ongoing war — now in its 21st month — which has already strained Israel's budget. "That money is not coming back," opposition leader Yair Lapid posted on X. The proposal has also been seen as a nod to long-standing goals of far-right Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, key coalition partners of the Israeli Prime Minister. "Netanyahu is letting Smotrich and Ben Gvir run wild with extremist delusions just to preserve his coalition. Instead of plundering the middle class's money, end the war and bring back the hostages."
What does international law say?
Under international humanitarian law, the forced displacement of civilians is strictly prohibited, except for temporary evacuations due to immediate dangers from hostilities. In a statement, Amnesty International, which has accused Israel of genocide, warned that, "relocating Gazans within the territory or "deporting them outside against their will would amount to the war crime of unlawful transfer". On Friday (Jul 11), 16 prominent Israeli legal scholars in a letter to Netanyahu and Katz also warned that the scheme could fall under the definitions of war crimes.

Israel's proposed 'humanitarian city': A relief zone for Gazans or a concentration camp for ethnic cleansing? Explained

War-torn Gaza has been on the brink of humanitarian collapse ever since the conflict with Israel began in October 2023. This has led the people to migrate, which is also one of the biggest exoduses in the world. With that, the children are bearing the brunt and are the worst hit. According to the latest report, 10 children are losing either one or both of their legs each passing day. The hostilities are pushing the children to physical and mental deterioration. The United Nations’ Human Rights Office discloses, ‘In Gaza, 134,105 people, including over 40,500 children, have new war-related injuries. 25% are estimated to have new disabilities requiring acute and ongoing rehabilitation.’ https://www.wionews.com/videos/israel-hamas-war-22-killed-in-latest-israeli-strikes-in-gaza-1752570876011/embed It also highlights that 25% may have new disabilities, which would need them to undergo acute and ongoing rehabilitation. And over 35,000 people are estimated to be suffering significant hearing damage. This is an outcome of the loud explosions to which the people have been exposed since the beginning of the conflict.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday (Jul 13) said that negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire were ongoing and expressed hope for progress "over the next week". His statement comes even as Israeli airstrikes the same day killed more than 40 Palestinians, including children in Gaza, and as Qatari-mediated talks remained deadlocked. "Gaza – we are talking, and hopefully we're going to get that straightened out over the next week," Trump told reporters, echoing optimism he had previously voiced on July 4. But on the ground, there seem to be little to no signs of a breakthrough.
Israeli strikes kill children collecting water
As per Gaza's civil defence agency, 43 Palestinians were killed on Sunday alone, including 11 people at a market in Gaza City and eight children at a water distribution point in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Israel, meanwhile, said it was targeting an Islamic Jihad member but admitted that due to a technical error, "the munition fell dozens of metres from the target". The nation also said that "The incident is under review" and reports of casualties were being examined.
Israel says '150 terror targets' struck as truce talks falter
AFP reports that Israel, in a statement, said that its military jets "struck more than 150 terror targets". It also released drone footage showing airstrikes and rising plumes of smoke. Israel's intensifying campaign comes amid growing scrutiny of civilian casualties and escalating humanitarian concerns. Gaza's death toll now exceeds 58,026, most of them civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. As per AFP, a senior Israeli official accused Hamas of "intransigence", saying, “Hamas remains intransigent, clinging to positions that prevent the mediators from advancing an agreement.” Meanwhile, citing a Palestinian source, AFP reported that Israel was seeking to maintain a military presence in over 40 per cent of Gaza and force Palestinians into the south "in preparation for forcibly displacing them to Egypt or other countries".

Israel ‘serious’ for Gaza ceasefire, hostage deal, it’s ‘achievable’: Foreign Minister

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (Jul 7) said that he had nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, presenting the Republican leader with a letter he sent to the Nobel Peace Prize committee. The show of diplomatic camaraderie comes as Trump hosted a White House dinner where he pressed Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza, now approaching its second year. This was Netanyahu’s third visit to Washington since Trump returned to office and came as indirect ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas continued in Qatar.
Netanyahu nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
"He's forging peace as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other," said Netanyahu at the dinner with Trump at the White House. Trump is known for complaining about perceived bias and how he gets overlooked by the Norwegian Nobel Committee despite his many Nobel Peace Prize nominations. The leader has claimed credit for mediating the conflict between India and Pakistan – a claim rejected by New Delhi, Serbia, and Kosovo. He has also demanded credit for "keeping peace" between Egypt and Ethiopia and brokering the Abraham Accords.
What happened at the White House dinner?
As per AFP, the two leaders sat across a long formal table, trading pleasantries in front of reporters as Trump insisted progress was being made. "I don't think there is a hold up. I think things are going along very well," Trump said when asked what was preventing a breakthrough. He also expressed confidence that Hamas was ready to negotiate an end to the conflict. "They want to meet and they want to have that ceasefire," Trump said when asked if clashes with Israeli troops might derail peace talks.Even as Trump continues to push for an end to the bloodshed, Netanyahu's remarks showed little room for concessions. The Israeli PM ruled out any arrangement that would lead to full Palestinian statehood. "Now, people will say it's not a complete state; it's not a state. We don't care," he said.
Qatar talks continue
The meeting in Washington coincided with a second day of indirect ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar. Representatives from both sides were reportedly in separate rooms in the same building, according to sources familiar with the talks.Despite the diplomatic overtures, negotiations in Doha ended Monday with "no breakthrough", a Palestinian official told AFP. Talks are expected to resume later this week.Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is scheduled to join the discussions in Qatar in the coming days in a bid to move things forward. The US proposal on the table includes a 60-day ceasefire, the release of 10 Israeli hostages and several bodies by Hamas. In turn, Israel would have to free Palestinian detainees from its prisons. Hamas has also sought security guarantees, a withdrawal timeline for Israeli troops, and the reinstatement of UN-led aid operations inside Gaza. Meanwhile, Trump’s spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, emphasised that "The utmost priority for the president right now in the Middle East is to end the war in Gaza and to return all of the hostages." She said Trump wants Hamas to accept the current US-backed proposal immediately, especially after Israel signalled its support for the plan.

Trump pushes for Gaza ceasefire at White House dinner, Netanyahu says ‘we don’t care’ about Palestinian statehood

US President Donald Trump expects the mediators in the ongoing negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal to reach an agreement this week, and they have been sounded accordingly, said an Arab diplomat involved in the talks. Trump pushing Israel and Hamas to clinch ceasefire and hostage release deal this week: Report

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday (Jul 1) that Israel has agreed to the terms of a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and urged Hamas to accept what he called the "final" deal on the table. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said his representatives held a "long and productive meeting" with Israeli officials earlier in the day, paving the way for a temporary halt to the fighting that has ravaged the Palestinian territory for nearly nine months. He urged the militant group Hamas to also accept the "final proposal" while issuing an ominous warning "IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE".
What did Trump say exactly?
On Truth Social, Trump, in his usual style, wrote, "My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War."He then told Hamas that "The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal." He added that he hopes “for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Neither the Israeli government nor Hamas immediately responded to the announcement, and there was no official confirmation from the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
Trump to be ‘Very firm’ with Netanyahu
This comes just ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington. He is expected to visit the White House next Monday. Earlier on Tuesday, speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Trump said he planned to be "very firm" with Netanyahu during their upcoming meeting on July 7. Trump, who has previously claimed credit for brokering high-profile international agreements, seems to be pursuing a Gaza ceasefire as a potential diplomatic win. Previously, he has taken credit for brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran after a 12-day war broke out last month. That conflict, which included a US-led bombing campaign targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, ended in a fragile truce on June 24.

Gaza’s Government Media Office (GMO) issued a press release on Friday (June 27) confirming the reports that narcotic tablets were found in the flour bags sent by the US-Israel Aid Centres. The office said, "Finding narcotic tablets inside flour bags coming from death traps 'US-Israel Aid Centres' is a heinous crime targeting the health of civilians and the fabric of society." "We express deep concern and condemnation over the discovery of 'Oxycodone tablets' inside the flour bags that reached citizens from the so-called 'US-Israel aid Centres', known as 'death traps'," the statement added. The office said that so far, four testimonies have been documented by the government from the citizens of the Gaza Strip who have found the Oxycodone pills in the aid packets.

"We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for this heinous crime to spread addiction and destroy the Palestinian social fabric from within, as part of a systematic policy that constitutes an extension of the crime of genocide carried out by the occupation against our Palestinian people. What is the drug? Oxycodone is a drug that belongs to the opioid family, which is used primarily for the relief of severe pain in cancer patients. When all the painkillers fail, this drug is used. Now, the problem with Oxycodone is that it acts on certain specific receptors in the nervous system - which causes severe addiction, a decrease in heart rate, impaired awareness and consciousness. It also causes dangerous respiratory depression. "Its side effects are numerous and can transform a person into something unrecognisable - a shell of who they were," a pharmacist, Omar Hamad, said on the social media platform X. “Many citizens have found these drugs, and I saw them with my own eyes in the flour sacks. There is also a doctor named Khalil Abu Nada who wrote a full report on this issue,” Hamad said in his posts. It was also reported that the Oxycodone pills were not just hidden in the flour bags, they were mixed with the flour. Apart from many prominent accounts on social media from the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian doctor named Khalil Mazen Abu Nada also talked about this on the social media platform Facebook. He described the acts as a “means to obliterate our societal awareness”.

United States President Donald Trump has called for Israel to cancel the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or grant him a pardon, describing the case against him as a “witch-hunt”.
