<p>Mumbai City FC on Thursday announced that Amey Ranawade has put pen to paper on a four-year contract extension with the club, committing his future with the Islanders until May 2025.</p>

<p>Born and raised in Mumbai, Amey graduated from the AIFF Elite Academy and went on to represent DSK Shivajians and Mohun Bagan in the I League along with two stints at FC Goa in the ISL. After most recently turning out for Bengaluru United in the I League 2nd Division, Amey signed for his hometown club Mumbai City FC ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.</p>

<p>The 23-year old local boy broke into Sergio Lobera’s side and went on to make 20 appearances in a historic season for the Islanders, winning the unique ‘double’ with the Islanders bagging both, the ISL League Winners’ Shield and the ISL Trophy in the Final.</p>

<p>"I was very lucky to have played with great players, behind me and close to me [and I also played under some] big coaches, amazing coaches. I have played in the big tournaments of football, and I will try and help using all of that experience."</p>

<p>"I took a decision a year ago to stop playing because I thought that was it was the [right] moment, not because I felt that I cannot play soccer anymore. I believe if I train I can play soccer for sure.</p>

<p>"But I thought that moment [when I decided to retire] was the right time. As you know, life is not just about soccer I am 39 and I played for 20 years as a soccer player.</p>

<p>"I think I can help more the sport of football and the world of football in my position right now than on the field. I think I took the right decision because I am very happy now. I miss football a little bit, but i think I can help in the position now more than the things I can do on the field."</p>

<p>"...it’s a huge occasion being the first live sport in India (post-lockdown). It’s the beginning of something very, very good because life needs to get back to normal. We need to get back to our lives and keep that fear away," Ganguly said in an Instagram live session for the ISL’s official handle.</p>

<p>"More than people getting affected, it’s also the fear which is affecting people. 'I don’t want to go there, I don’t want to mix among people' This is unsafe, that is unsafe."</p>

<p>"I think a very good ISL season will clear all the cobwebs and doubts in everybody’s mind," the former captain added.</p>

<p>According to Ganguly, cricket's domestic season from January 1, said the ISL's success would inspire a lot of other sports who have been "tentative" to start.</p>

<p>"It would inspire a lot of other sports as well and I say that including cricket, because our domestic season will start soon. We’re looking to start in the New Year."</p>

<p>"We have a lot more teams actually -- 38 teams in the domestic season but it’ll inspire us to feel that security, that you know if ISL goes without any hiccups, and I’m sure it is going to happen because the bubbles have been created," he said.</p>

<p>"A lot of sports are still tentative. A lot of them don’t know how it is going to affect (them) because the numbers in some of the states are still very high," Ganguly said.</p>

<p>Mumbai City on Thursday confirmed the signing of midfielder Ahmed Jahouh. The 32-year-old Moroccan joins the club after putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Islanders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A native of Al Araoui in Morocco, Jahouh started his career with Ittihad Khemisset before moving to Moghreb Tétouan in 2010. Jahouh plied his trade at Moghreb for five seasons winning two league titles in the process, and featured in his last season at the club under then-coach Sergio Lobera and with teammate Mourtada Fall. Jahouh would go on to feature for Raja Casablanca and FUS Rabat, both in Morocco.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 2017, Jahouh reunited with Lobera in India at FC Goa. The Moroccan was pivotal to Sergio Lobera’s set up and became a key fixture for the Goan side over the next three seasons, making 56 league appearances and winning the 2019/20 ISL League Shield and the 2019 Super Cup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Neville played almost every match for Brisbane Roar in the 2019-20 season missing out on only two matches. He played a crucial role in helping his team finish fourth in the A-League and the team was in the A-League Final Series as well as play-offs.</p>

<p>“Scott brings a lot of experience to us having played 12 consecutive seasons in the A-League with 200+ matches and also featured for the Australia U-23 team,” Bangur added.</p>

<p>The Aussie defender said he is excited to don the red and gold jersey.</p>

<p>“India presents a new challenge and I cannot wait to don the red and gold colours and take the field. There will always be massive expectations from us and I am aware of that. I can assure the fans that we will leave no stone unturned in our bid to strive for excellence,” Neville said</p>

<p>ATK is owned by the Sanjiv Goenka's RPSG group, whereas Mohun Bagan football team is looked after by Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Private Limited.</p>

<p>In the deal struck by the two teams, ATK will hold 80 per cent of the team's shares whereas Mohun Bagan will have just 20 per cent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Swapan Sadhan Bose, Chairman, Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Pvt&nbsp;Ltd&nbsp;said in an official statement that "In this context, I am very thankful to India's one of the most well-known industrialists and our Kolkata's very own Dr Sanjiv Goenka for his investment through RPSG. Their vision on Indian football aligns with our philosophy and our combined forces will surely take the club to bigger and greater heights. In this respect, it is a red-letter day in the history of this iconic institution".</p>

<p>The new deal comes into existence from June 1. They will take part in the ISL (2020-21) and other important AIFF competitions as one team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The AIFF's plan to merge the franchise-based Indian Super League (ISL) with the I-League has faced major obstacles and there is little clarity on the roadmap, leaving stakeholders and fans confused about the future of club football.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, the AIFF openly backed the ISL as the country's elite competition for the first time, saying it would recommend the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) awarded its champions a slot in the continent's elite club competition.</p>

<p>In response six I-League clubs wrote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and FIFA requesting intervention as well as an inquiry into the running of the AIFF.</p>

<p>Following extensive consultation in 2018, a combined FIFA-AFC delegation made a series of recommendations to the AIFF on the matter.</p>

<p>"Many of the elements under discussion are related to suggestions made in a joint FIFA and AFC report," FIFA said in a letter addressed to the AIFF requesting an update on the progress of the plans.</p>

<p>"The report's objectives are among others, to provide the AIFF with external expertise and to support your federation and its stakeholders in establishing and implementing a widely-supported, robust medium to long-term strategy.</p>

<p>"As you know, the report is therefore a comprehensive review and professional proposal which also contains a series of clear and concrete recommendations for your further consideration."</p>

<p>The ISL, promoted by billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries and Rupert Murdoch's Star India TV, has grown in popularity since its 2014 launch, whereas interest in the I-League has stagnated.</p>

<p>The I-League was formed in 2007 as a rebrand of the National Football League, which was India's first professional league when it launched in 1996.</p>

<p>The AIFF said earlier this month it was backing the ISL because most of the national team players were playing in the league and it was attracting more fans in stadiums and on TV.</p>
