Germanpreet Singh opened the scoring with his first-ever goal in the ISL. Mirlan Murzaev made it 2-0 in the second half with a brilliant strike from distance as the Bozidar Bandovic-coached side moved to third in the points table, level on points with second-placed Jamshedpur FC and four off league leaders Mumbai City FC.

Odisha succumbed to their second straight defeat and dropped a rung to fifth place with nine points from six matches. Chennaiyin have 11 points from six games. Javi Hernandez scored a superb goal but it wasn't enough in the end.

Both teams looked to suss each other out in the opening exchanges and it was a cagey affair before Chennaiyin nosed ahead riding an unlikely source.

Germanpreet scored a goal after six years when he smashed home a rebound after Odisha keeper Kamaljit Singh blocked a cross from the right flank which fell to Germanpreet.

It was the first goal for the 25-year old since 2015 when he had netted for Dempo against Royal Wahingdoh.

The 31-year old Kyrgyzstan footballer was unmarked and made the most of it with a long-range shot that arrowed past a diving Kamaljit and thudded into the back of the net.

It could have been 3-0 for Chennaiyin after Vladimir Koman was hacked down inside the box, but Lukasz Gikiewicz saw his effort saved by Kamaljit.

A fit-again Edu Garcia`s inclusion in the starting XI for the first time since the first game week proved to be an inspired move. A freekick in the 10th minute sailed over the bar but another set-piece moments later did the trick.

Chinglensana Singh scored his first ISL goal courtesy Garcia's freekick that hit the upright initially. Goalkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury was caught ball-watching and defenders out of position when the Manipur-born defender slotted home from the rebound.

With the deadlock broken, Hyderabad egged on for a second. An unmarked Ogbeche missed the easiest of chances after build-up play from the right flank was fed off by an Ashis Rai cross.

The Nigerian made amends immediately. Garcia was in the thick of things again as he lobbed the ball into space for Ogbeche who ran past the defenders to collect it and smash the ball into the net with his left foot.

Jamshedpur FC continued their unbeaten run in the season as they handed ATK Mohun Bagan their second consecutive defeat with a 2-1 win in the Indian Super League (ISL) here on Monday.

The win took Jamshedpur to second spot in the points table while ATK Mohun Bagan slumped to fifth spot.

Seiminlen Doungel (37th) scored the opener for the Men of Steel with a sublime finish from the right flank. Alex Lima (84th) scored the second after coming on as a substitute late in the second half.

Pritam Kotal (89th) pulled one back for ATKMB but it ended as too little too late to affect the final scoreline.

Captain Edu Bedia was left out to accommodate former Highlander Dylan Fox. Airam Cabrera did not feature in the matchday squad as he was nursing a small niggle.

Rochharzela, making his first start of the season, paid dividends at the very outset. The Mizoram-born winger capitalised on the FC Goa defence, which went missing.

Mathias Coureur won the ball from the left with Fox unable to intercept. A through ball played to Rochharzela saw him clear and he went into the box to shoot home, albeit post a deflection off the upright.

The opening few exchanges saw two youngsters impress particularly. Boris Singh made his mark in an attacking role for Jamshedpur while debutant Hnamte had a shot on target early for the Kolkata giants.

Reigning Indian Super League (ISL) champions Mumbai City on Friday announced that Sergio Lobera will be stepping down as their head coach after a successful one-year stint with the club.

The club's new head coach will be Des Buckingham, who joins from sister club and A-League champions Melbourne City. He will join the Islanders ahead of the 2021-22 season on a two-year contract, a media statement issued by the franchise stated.

Buckingham will arrive in the country shortly and will undergo the stipulated quarantine before joining the Mumbai City bubble in Goa to commence pre-season preparations ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

Englishman Des Buckingham was assistant coach to Patrick Kisnorbo, helping the club towards winning the A-League Premiership and Championship double, the statement added.
