<p>Actor Adarsh Gourav, who earned the global spotlight with his performance of Balram Halwai in "The White Tiger", downplays all comparison certain sections of fans and the media have drawn between him and the late Irrfan Khan, who made a mark in Hollywood with a series of good roles. Adarsh says the legacy of Irrfan can never be replaced.<br />

Irrfan had garnered global recognition with his performance in Mira Nair`s "The Namesake", adapted from the novel of the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri. Adarsh shot to fame starring in "The White Tiger", adapted from Aravind Adiga`s Man Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name.<br />

Period," said Adarsh, while opening up on the subject. "The White Tiger" was nominated in the 93rd Academy Awards in the Best Adapted Screenplay category but lost to "The Father".

<p>The project will be helmed by Anvitaa Dutt who had previously directed `Bulbbul` for the Clean States. She is also known for her works in critically and commercially hit movies like `Queen`, `Dostana`, `Bachna Ae Haseeno`, and more.</p>

<p>In an interview, Pankaj Tripathi recently opened up about his love for Irrfan Khan. He said, “I really liked Irrfan Khan and was very sad when we lost him and even today I am, because he inspired me. I watched Maqbool, Warrior and almost all his films.”</p>

<p>He added, “I think he was the only Indian actor whose every film I’ve seen. I felt like he was doing something different and this is the impact acting should have.”</p>

<p>Previously, in a statement, Pankaj had said that he decided to do ‘Angrezi Medium’ only because it would give him the chance to work with Irrfan.</p>

<p>“I’ve always been inspired by Irrfan’s performances as an actor. He has had a huge impact on my life, especially with his performances from Haasil, Maqbool, The Warrior, and Paan Singh Tomar. My guru and also my senior from the National School of Drama, I have always wanted to impact audiences the way he does. His contribution has been greatly acknowledged in Indian Cinema and my role in this film is almost like my ‘guru dakshina’ to him,” Pankaj said.</p>

Asked how difficult or easy is it to play a character similar to one in some ways, the 37-year-old actor said he is trying to embrace such characters now.<br />

"It is more exposing but also forces you to go to difficult places. Usually those challenging personal places are where you end up being most creative."<br />

Ahmed also said the team toured South Asia to bring out the authenticity in the film.<br />
<br />
"Yes, we spent months visiting museums and South Asia to take inspiration from our own artistic heritage - mughal miniatures, tile work, qawalli, sufi spirituality and magical realism. We wanted to find our own visual language for our stories," Ahmed, who has also co-written the film with Tariq, said in a response to a question about how an Asian themed film must look like.<br />

He also recommended the audience to read 'Toba Tek Singh', a short story by Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto, before watching the film.<br />

"To me 'Toba Tek Singh' reminds us that this feeling of displacement is not a new one. Our ancestors felt it. And they created art about it too, like Manto's short 'Toba Tek Singh' did. It's about being haunted by the ghosts of the past but also blessed by its spirit."<br />
Published in 1955, 'Toba Tek Singh'&nbsp;is set in post-Partition Lahore and follows the ongoing quest of belonging of a human being by its titular character.<br />
<br />
Ahmed noted the gravity of the 1947 Partition is something that people of the Indian subcontinent "don't discuss enough or fully comprehend".<br />
<br />
"The impact of Partition was world shaping," he said, adding the new generation has inherited this "ancestral trauma".<br />
<br />
Asked if he had seen any of master director Satyajit Ray's works, the actor said he had watched 1963's&nbsp; 'Mahanagar'&nbsp;('The Big City') and thought it was way ahead of its time from a feminist point of view.<br />

<p>An FIR has been lodged against actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed in Pakistan's Lahore for shooting a music video inside a mosque.<br />
<br />
The complainant is an advocate called Farhat Manzoor who said the act of filming a music video inside a mosque has hurt the religious sentiments of people. Manzoor also urged the police to take stern action against the mosque administration for allowing the filming of the video inside its premises.<br />
<br />
Qamar who starred opposite Irrfan Khan in 'Hindi Medium' has issued an apology along with the singer.<br />
<br />
“We realise what has happened over the past few days has hurt your sentiments deeply,” he said in a video message. “We as Muslims, as decent human beings and as artists will never, ever trivialise or condone disrespect to Islam or any other religion, race, caste, colour or creed. If we have unknowingly hurt anyone’s sentiments we apologise to you all with all our heart.”<br />
<br />
Saeed, who has also directed the music video added, "Saba Qamar and I had recently filmed a nikah sequence at Wazir Khan Mosque which created a big misunderstanding and hurt the emotions of a lot of people."<br />

Manzoor also urged the police to take stern action against the mosque administration for allowing the filming of the video inside its premises. Qamar who starred opposite Irrfan Khan in 'Hindi Medium' has issued an apology along with the singer. “We realise what has happened over the past few days has hurt your sentiments deeply,” he said in a video message. “We as Muslims, as decent human beings and as artists will never, ever trivialise or condone disrespect to Islam or any other religion, race, caste, colour or creed. If we have unknowingly hurt anyone’s sentiments we apologise to you all with all our heart.” Saeed, who has also directed the music video added, "Saba Qamar and I had recently filmed a nikah sequence at Wazir Khan Mosque which created a big misunderstanding and hurt the emotions of a lot of people." The video was released on August 12 and the controversial portion has been edited out. Here have a look. In his statement, Saeed clarified that no dance sequence was hot inside the mosque as was claimed on social media. The two have been granted interim bail for the time being. If found guilty, they may have to serve jail time for 2 years.

Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, it takes us through the highs and lows of four friends as they work their way through the world of crime.</p>

<p>After working together in <em>Haasil&nbsp;</em>and <em>Paan Singh Tomar</em>,&nbsp;Tigmanshu Dhulia and the late actor Irrfan Khan were supposed to collaborate in <em>Yaara</em>.&nbsp;The film begins by remembering the late actor who passed&nbsp;away&nbsp;battling cancer on April 29, 2020.</p>

<p><em>Yaara</em>, a remake of the 2011 French drama 'Les Lyonnais', can be summed up as a story of friendship, loyalty and betrayal.</p>

<p>Phagun (Vidyut Jammwal), Mitwa(Amit Sadh), Bahadur (Kenny Basumatary) and Rizwan(Vijay Varma) are the four pillars of the chaukadi gang. Sticking together right from childhood, the four indulge in criminal activities including smuggling, bootlegging and trading of illegal arms. We also see a cameo by Sanjay Mishra who plays the role of Chaman and is the primary reason why the gang came together in the first place. The cast includes Shruti Haasan as well, who plays the role of Sukanya- the love interest and later, wife of Phagun. Contrary to her outspoken leftist past in the movie, she barely has any say with how things unfold after her marriage.</p>

<p>The narrative of the film is non-linear and keeps going back and forth in time. Yaara begins in the year 1997 with the chaukadi gang being split-up and the arrest of one of its members. We are then taken back to the early 1950s where the viewer is told the story of how the gang was formed and managed to stick together through thick and think. The transition of the four friends from childhood to adulthood was done smartly through a song in the film. &nbsp;</p>

<p><em>Yaara's</em> plot jumps between the early 1950s to the late 1990s. Through the tale of their friendship, the writers display many chapters in India's history. The 1970's socio-political environment is displayed with the portraits of Jayaprakash Narayan on the walls of Patna where the gang robs a bank. There was also a mention of a massacre by upper-caste men in a village in Jehanabad where 61 people were killed. Reminding us that the time was dominated by a corrupt government and caste politics.</p>

<p>We also go back to the evolution of fashion with a glimpse of the 70s and 80s through actors flaunting bell-bottom pants and printed shirts. The film is full of old Bollywood references, such as Bahadur's mimicry of Amitabh Bachchan's evergreen dialogues and the posters of <em>Sholay </em>and <em>Amar Akbar Anthony</em>.</p>

<p><em>Yaara</em> tries really hard to impress the audience but still fails. A major reason could be abrupt writing. Each decade in the movie shows a different part of the gang's life but they all seem to have abrupt endings. Even though the movie has a decent run time of 133 minutes, it starts testing your patience after the first half an hour itself. It feels as if the plot is not going anywhere and the viewer just keeps on waiting for the movie to pick up and get back on track. Sadly that never happens. With a disappointing screenplay and substandard editing, Yaara is not among Tigmanshu Dhulia's best work for sure.</p>

<p>The music of the film was not great and no song was exceptionally brilliant. There were unnecessarily far too many songs in <em>Yaara.</em> Some were even without any context and felt like they were put just for the heck of it. Even though it was a crime drama, they got a bit overboard with people shooting each other with gunshot noises coming basically every 10 minutes in the film.</p>

<p>Vidyut Jammwal fails to impress us with his 'unrealistic' action sequences. The one in which he successfully escapes after defeating around 5-10 policemen on his own. Not to forget, without a scratch on his body. The overall acting of the cast was just about average and the film seemed longer than its run time.</p>

<p>With many other crime dramas available to watch online, do yourself a favour and skip this one.</p>

<p>Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his apartment in his Bandra home in Mumbai on Sunday(June 14). His fans, celebs were all left shocked with the&nbsp;actor's sudden demise.</p>

<p>Soon after, netizens started sharing one particular scene from teh film of Sushant Singh Rajput that was identical to Irrfan Khan and Heath Ledger's last films respectively.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Irrfan Khan lost his battle to a rare form of cancer and died in a Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital on April 29, 2020. While Heath Ledger passed away in 2008 due to depression in his Manhattan home. He was 28.<br />

On Friday, as Shoojit Sircar's 'Piku' completed 5 years- the film's leading lady Deepika Padukone paid a heartwarming tribute to her co-star from the film, Irrfan Khan.<br />

<p>Anand had met with Irrfan Khan around the release of ‘Maqbool’. They drove to Pune once and became friends over the years. They had explored the possibility of him starring in ‘Tumbbad’ and it was before the final script and schedule changes were made. ‘Tumbbad’ was loved by critics.</p>

<p>He revealed that Irrfan Khan could also have starred in the pandemic film ‘Emergence’, something that he had been working on for years. It’s been close to five years that Anand has been developing the script.</p>

<p>‘Emergence’ is about the story of five women scientists fighting the contagion and are superheroes in their own way. It would take the parasite-host relationship further. The script eerily represents the current scenario of the world. Tentatively titled 2020 at the time, he said that it had all the elements of storage crisis for scientific data, rightwing politics, among other things.</p>

<p>His idea is to make the film the most researched one on the pandemic. The filmmaker plans to take the film on the floor by next year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One lesser-known facet of&nbsp;Irrfan Khan was that he was a passionate cricketer and a true lover of the game. At one point in his life, he wanted to pursue cricket, but couldn't due to financial problems. &nbsp;</p>

<p>It was cricket which gave me a few opportunities where&nbsp;I got to meet and play with Irrfan, albeit they were only net sessions. It was during the practice sessions for the 2011-12 season of the Celebrity Cricket League at the Air India Cricket Grounds. We were part of the "Mumbai Heroes" team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I remember he had a nice pull shot.</p>

<p>I'm obsessed with statistics. Like Sachin Tendulkar played 200 test matches and scored 15, 921 runs with a career average of 53.8 while Don Bradman played 52 test matches to score 6991 runs with a career average of 99.4!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Irrfan, during his&nbsp;career as an actor, had an unparalleled run in the films. His acting brilliance, his level of achievement, the mastery of the cinematic art, the universal awe it inspired, and the scale of success he garnered can only be compared to that of the great Sir Don Bradman.</p>

<p>Irrfan broke patterns, norms, conventions, rules in the most astonishing manner. Even though right from the times of Shashi Kapoor, Roshan Seth, Saeed Jaffrey, Om puri, and others, we have had actors from India excelling in the international film arena. But, what Khan achieved in the Indian and international film space in these years is unfathomable and stunning at the same time. Be it his role in 'The Warrior' or the critically acclaimed 'Namesake', Irrfan left his mark, and more importantly, managed to keep his head on his shoulders and his feet on the ground.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An alumnus of the prestigious National School of Drama, he had the best training and teachers such as Naseeruddin Shah. But he had told me during a cricket net practice, actors too need to read books and watch plays,&nbsp;hone their skills and nourish the mind with influences of various kinds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Like most of us, his early years of struggle in Bombay were not easy. Even today, every time I feel low, it's always these words by Irrfan that come to my rescue. He had told to me with his characteristic smile, "when your time comes, and if you are ready, magic can happen".</p>

<p>The realisation that Irrfan, that special genius, that irreplaceable gem, will never create another body of work hurts. Knowing I will never see another new film of his is a gigantic tragedy. It rankles and haunts that the magician will never put up another new show again.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But like in all my favourite films, you&nbsp;honour its feelings and accept the truth that life will have to move on.&nbsp;I will move on by watching every single work of his I can get my hands onto. I will watch them again and again.</p>

In the statement, Sutapa stated that she could not call it a family statement when the whole world was calling Irrfan death's a personal loss. She though urged everyone to not see this as a loss but more like a gain.</p>

<p><em>There was a rhythm which he always saw in everything, even in cacophony and chaos, so I have learnt to sing and dance to the music of that rhythm, even with my tone-deaf voice and two left feet. Funnily, our life was a masterclass in acting, so when the dramatic entry of the “uninvited guests” happened, I had by then learnt, to see a harmony in the&nbsp; cacophony. The doctor’s reports were like scripts which I wanted to perfect, so I never miss any detail that he sought for in his performance. </em></p>

<p><em>We met some amazing people in this journey and the list is endless, but there are some whom I have to mention, our oncologist Dr. Nitesh Rohtogi (Max hospital Saket) who held our hand in the beginning, Dr. Dan Krell (UK), Dr. Shidravi (UK), my heartbeat and my lantern in the dark Dr. Sevanti Limaye (Kokilaben hospital). It’s difficult to explain what a wondrous, beautiful, overwhelming, painful and exciting this journey has been. I find this 2 and 1/2 years to have been an interlude, which had it’s own beginning, middle and culmination with Irrfan helming the role of the orchestra conductor, separate from the 35 years of our companionship, ours was not a marriage, it was a union. </em></p>

<p>Senior US diplomat Alice Wells has expressed grief on the untimely demise of Bollywood actors Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan saying the two Bollywood legends stole the hearts of audiences in India and around the world, and that they would be truly missed.</p>

<p>Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor had both been battling with cancer before breathing their last on April 29 and April 30 respectively.</p>

<p>"Very saddened to hear of the passing two Bollywood legends this week, Irrfan Khan @irrfank and Rishi Kapoor @chintskap. Both actors stole the hearts of audiences in America, India, and around the world and will be truly missed," State SCA said in a tweet attributed to US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) Alice Wells.</p>
