Ahead of the expected resumption of stalled talks over Tehran’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers, Iranian state television reported that Tehran had launched a solid-fueled rocket into space.

Against the backdrop of heightened tensions over Tehran’s nuclear programme, state-run media aired dramatic footage of the blastoff at Imam Khomeini Spaceport in Iran’s rural Semnan province.

The aim of launching the 25.5 metre-long rocket, which is capable of carrying a satellite of 220 kilograms (485 pounds) that would ultimately gather data in low-earth orbit, is to promote Iran’s space industry, according to Ahmad Hosseini, spokesman for Iran’s Defense Ministry.

In a bid to bring down foreign currency rates, exporters have been instructed to offer their banknotes in the market, according to Al-Jazeera. The governor of Iran’s central bank - Ali Salehabadi – also said that they have cashed in $7.5bn worth of proceeds from sales of crude oil till May 21.

Iran has also not taken the UN resolution quite well and in response, they took down a number of cameras from nuclear plants all around the country. The cameras belong to the UN nuclear watchdog in order to keep an eye on Iran’s nuclear activities as part of the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Iran currency drops to lowest value ever as troubles over nuclear deal continue

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has warned that Iran was drawing “dangerously close” to producing nuclear weapons.

In an interview to UK’s Telegraph on Saturday, Bennett said, “Iran is enriching uranium at an unprecedented rate and moving dangerously close to getting their hands on nuclear weapons.”

The prime minister called on the global community to ramp up pressure against Tehran’s nuclear program and ambitions.

His comments come at a when there are several reports suggesting that Iran may have already attained the material needed to manufacture a nuclear weapon.

On Thursday, Iran switched off surveillance cameras&nbsp;used by the international nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, to monitor activity at the country's key nuclear facilities.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi warned that the move could deal a "fatal blow" to negotiations that seek to revive the nuclear deal.

The absence of footage from nuclear sites deprives the negotiators of the nuclear deal —known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) —to "technically impossible to have an agreement," IAEA chief Raphael Grossi told CNN Thursday.

"Or you could have (a deal) on the basis of no information, which I suppose is not going to happen," said Grossi.

"This is why we are saying it's a very serious thing. It has consequences. Of course it does."

The IAEA has said that it did not have access to the data collected by such cameras for more than a year. The agency hopes it will gain access to that data, which remains with Iran, at a later date.

US to back IAEA resolution in spite of Iranian resistance

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA), Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium has now reached over eighteen times the limit set by the 2015 nuclear deal.

IAEA in its report said Iran's total enriched stockpile was "3,809.3 kilograms". The limit set by the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran was set at 300 kg.

Iran's foreign minister on Wednesday said that agreement on two issues remained with the US in order to restore 2015 nuclear deal.

The nuclear deal was done between Iran and world powers in 2015 but Donald Trump-led USA withdrew from the deal in 2018.&nbsp;

Iran has been engaged in direct talks in Vienna to revive the accord, known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China directly. The United States, which unliterally pulled out of the deal in 2018, is participating indirectly.

"We had four issues as our red lines," but "two issues have almost been resolved," Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted as saying Wednesday by state news agency IRNA, adding that "two issues remain, including (an) economic guarantee".

He did not elaborate on the second issue.

"If the American side fulfils our two remaining demands today, we will be ready to go to Vienna tomorrow," he said.

Israel sees Iran nuclear deal 'shortly,' warns it may be 'weaker': Naftali Bennett

France warned on Wednesday that Iran has only days left to accept a deal on its nuclear programme at Vienna talks, while Iran's chief negotiator said a deal was closer than ever before.

In an address to the Senate, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian predicted that if there is no agreement, a major crisis would ensue.

"We need political decisions from the Iranians. They have a very clear choice," France's Le Drian said.

"Either they unleash a serious crisis in the next days... or they accept an agreement that respects the interests of all the parties, especially those of Iran," he said.

Iran blames United States for the slow pace of talks between Tehran and world powers

According to reports, US officials have threatened “severe consequences” against Iran after it imposed&nbsp;sanctions against former President Trump administration officials calling it&nbsp;an assassination threat.

Former President Trump had imposed large scale sanctions against Iran and had walked out of the nuclear deal in 2019 citing national security threats as Iran revived its nuclear programme.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the US will "protect and defend its citizens" including "those serving the United States now and those who formerly served."

Iran's Revolutionary Guard had vowed to take revenge after its commander General Soleimani was killed in a US drone in Iraq's capital Baghdad on January 3, 2020.

Iran on Saturday had announced sanctions on US chairman of the joint chiefs of staff Mark Milley for his alleged role in the assassination of General Soleimani. The Iranian regime had also imposed sanctions against &nbsp;50 Americans including senior officials.

The Iranian Quds force once again reiterated the threat relaying it its state media saying "we will provide for the basis of revenge against the Americans from within their houses and by people by their side without us being present," while adding that, "if wise people in America are found who deal with those who committed the atrocity of assassinating commander Soleimani."

Ahead of the resumption, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the agenda on Monday should be "the issue of guarantees and verification" on the lifting of US sanctions if it returns to the accord.

"The most important thing for us is to reach a point where we can verify that Iranian oil will be sold easily and without any limits, that the money for this oil will be transferred in foreign currency to Iranian bank accounts, and that we will be able to benefit from all the revenues," he said, quoted on Monday by state news agency IRNA.

The opening of the eighth round of the talks involves delegations from Iran and the other countries that remain party to the landmark accord -- Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia.

The multilateral nuclear deal reached in 2015 offered Iran a lifting of economic sanctions in return for strict curbs on its nuclear activities.

The goal was to make it practically impossible for Iran to build an atomic bomb, while allowing it to pursue a civilian nuclear programme.

US President Joe Biden has said he is willing to return to the deal as long as Iran also resumes the original terms.

As talks to salvage nuclear deal resume, Iran wants assurances

US negotiator Rob Malley said Tuesday that there may only be "some weeks" left to revive the nuclear deal with Iran if the country continues its nuclear activities at its current pace.

Speaking during an interview with CNN, Malley warned of a "period of escalating crisis" if diplomacy failed to restore the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers.

After a five-month hiatus, negotiations restarted in November, to try to restore the deal with Iran.

Recently, Washington has also warned that it may soon be too late to revive the agreement.

"It really depends on the pace of their nuclear process," said Malley, the US special envoy for Iran. "If they halt the nuclear advances, we have more time."

"I'm not going to put a time limit on it," Blinken told reporters, but the remaining runway for a deal is "getting very, very, very short."

"We continue to have a strong interest in seeing if we can put the nuclear program back into the box that it was in," he said. "But if we can't do that, because Iran will not engage in good faith, then we are actively looking at alternatives and options."
