Kishan, who slammed a brilliant 69 off 39 balls against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2024 the other night, said many things are not in his hands and that he plans to enjoy his cricket.

During the South Africa tour late last year, Ishan asked BCCI not to consider him for selection as he decided to take a break from the game for personal reasons. The left-handed batter remained away from the game until March, missing the Afghanistan T20Is and the home Test series against England. He, however, returned to play the DY Patil Cup before joining Mumbai Indians camp for IPL 2024.

This season, Ishan is Mumbai’s top run-getter thus far, with 161 runs from five games at 182.95.&nbsp;

Over a month after Indian batter Hanuma Vihari claimed political interference was the reason for his dismissal as the Andhra Pradesh captain, the state cricket association has served a show-cause notice to him.&nbsp;

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) on Thursday (Mar 28)&nbsp;claimed it served the notice to Vihari after the apex council meeting a few days ago.&nbsp;

"Yes, we have served him a show-cause notice and we are awaiting his reply," an ACA official was quoted as saying by PTI.&nbsp;

"This is just to find what made him react the way he did last month. He has not reached out to us, so this is a chance for him to come out with his grievances," the official further said.

However, Vihari released a statement, refuting ACA's claims that he had not responded to the show-cause notice.&nbsp;

"I want to move out and play for another team. I've asked ACA for a no-objection certificate. I'm awaiting a response," Vihari told ESPNcricinfo.

After Andhra crashed out of the Ranji Trophy last month, Vihari said he would "never play for Andhra" again.&nbsp;

In an Instagram post, Vihari revealed that he was asked to step down from&nbsp;captaincy after a complaint was launched against him. The said complaint came after the 17th man in the Andhra squad approached his father, a politician, as he was not happy with the behaviour of Vihari.

"I never said anything on a personal note to the player, but the association thought the player was more important than the guy who gave his body on the line last year and batted left-handed, took Andhra to the knockouts five times in the last seven years and played for India in 16 Tests," wrote Vihari.&nbsp;

Vihari also posted a letter of support from his fellow Andhra players on his X account.

Former India captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar has urged the BCCI to implement the 'incentive scheme' in the Ranji Trophy as well, saying it will motivate more players at the domestic level and will also look after the feeder (to the Test team) system.&nbsp;

Earlier, the BCCI announced an incentive scheme for all those who will appear in 75% of Tests in a season by paying them an extra INR 45 lakhs per game (outside of their designated match fee), while those playing from 50-75% matches will pocked INR 30 lakhs.&nbsp;

"That is a wonderful thing by the BCCI to reward those who would be playing [Test cricket]. But I would also request the BCCI to ensure that the feeder to the Test team, which is the Ranji Trophy, is also looked after," Gavaskar said on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai on Friday.

Given the pay breakdown in India's domestic tournaments, a player earns INR 2 lakhs for a Ranji game. If he plays each match, and his team qualifies for the finals, it adds up to 10 games, meaning a player can earn a maximum of INR 20 lakhs (equivalent to the lowest base price for a player in the IPL). Besides, the match fee in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is INR 50,000, dropping to INR 17,500 in Syed Mushtaq Ali.

Speaking on the same lines, Gavaskar said the BCCI must consider increasing the player fees by two or three folds to ensure financial security for all, motivating them to prefer the Ranji Trophy over franchise-based T20 cricket.&nbsp;

"If the Ranji Trophy fee can be doubled or tripled, certainly there will be a lot more people playing the Ranji Trophy, [and a] lot less pullouts. They will all be wanting to play with the slab system - [if] every ten first-class matches you get that much more - so I would request the BCCI to look at that aspect as well."

<h2>Better scheduling will help the motive</h2>

Gavaskar touched upon a different aspect of how better scheduling can help BCCI achieve their motive.&nbsp;

The former top-order batter asked BCCI to look into the growing concern of the short gap between Ranji games and even suggested Ranji to be the first of three tournaments to be played and not the last to ensure everyone is available and no one opts to skip it.

As things stand, the Ranji Trophy is the last competition in the domestic calendar.&nbsp;

"That way, everybody will be available to play [the Ranji Trophy], except for the ones featuring for India. There will be no real excuse to pull out. With the one-dayers beginning from January, people who are in the IPL can have enough practice from them," Gavaskar said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Mumbai recently won their record 42nd Ranji Trophy title, beating Vidarbha in the final in Wankhede.&nbsp;

Following India’s famous win in the fifth and the final Test of the home series against England in Dharamsala on Saturday (March 9), Shah posted on his social media handle (X, previously known as Twitter) launching the new scheme that provides Test regulars, who will play more than 75% of the matches scheduled in a season, with a whopping incentive on their match fees.

Considering this scheme will come into effect retrospectively from the 2022-23 season, someone like Cheteshwar Pujara, who played seven out of the nine matches that season (77.7%), will earn INR 45 lakhs per match in addition to his match fee of INR 15 lakhs per game, making it INR 60 lakhs per game. In his case, the sum amounts to INR 4.2 crore (including incentives), compared to INR 1.05 crore he would have earned as a reward for prioritising Test cricket.&nbsp;

The BCCI secretary revealed the purpose behind this, saying this "step aimed at providing financial growth and stability" to Test players.

Meanwhile, under this scheme, all those players featuring in 50-75% of Tests in a season will earn INR 30 lakh per Test (outside of their match fees), while those who play less than 50% of the slated games will not be eligible for the benefits under the scheme. This incentive, however, isn't linked to BCCI's annual retainers, which is a separate component.

The BCCI, in a statement, said, "This scheme is not only designed to encourage players to engage in the purest format of the sport but also addresses the evolving dynamics of the cricketing landscape, ensuring parity with match fees in other formats and league cricket."

It is not a hidden fact that BCCI is perhaps the most powerful of all cricket boards for the revenue they generate (to pocket 38.5% of the money earned by the ICC), which is heads and shoulders ahead of the second-placed England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which will earn $41 million out of $600 million the ICC is set to make in the next financial cycle.

Now, with how BCCI influences boards on countless grounds, inspiring to save Tests being one of them, this initiative will bring wholesome changes to the mentality of the budding cricketers on making the right calls to prioritise playing Tests rather than running behind money by featuring in franchise-based T20 leagues worldwide.

Since Ishan and Iyer remained unavailable for selection for Ranji Trophy matches for their respective teams for separate reasons despite being fit and away from international commitments, it irked the bosses, who warned them otherwise in a second warning.&nbsp;
