The cricket world went into a frenzy following Rinku Singh’s snub from India's 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The left-handed batter emerged onto the international scene (scoring 356 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of over 175) following his successive outings in the Indian Premier League before this season. While everyone expected him to break into the final squad for the 20-team tournament, the selectors decided against doing so, picking him in the travelling reserves instead. Despite the Indian Team nurturing him into a proper finisher in this format, Rinku’s absence shocked the cricketing fraternity; however, Rinku finally broke his silence on the T20 WC snub, saying he always dreamt of helping India win an ICC trophy. In a video posted on the IPL website, Rinku said, “Since I have played cricket, I have won some trophies at the junior level but not at the senior level. I am going to the World Cup. I want to hold the WC trophy; I hope we win. My dream is to win a big trophy for my country and lift it in my hands.” ALSO READ: T20 WC: Jake Fraser’s IPL run reap rewards as star Aussie opener locked in as travelling reserve Remaining optimistic about performing well and returning to the T20I setup, the KKR’s lower-order batter added, “Time is bad for someone who does not have his limbs; I have them. I am not going through a bad time.” The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee picked Shivam Dube as an extra batter alongside struggling all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Besides these two for the finisher’s role, India has two spin-bowling all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Meanwhile, for KKR this season, Rinku failed to get going, scoring just 168 runs from 11 outings, striking under-150. ‘Calm head amidst chaos’ Having gained prominence for hitting five successive sixes in a thrilling run chase against then-Gujarat Titans seamer Yash Dayal the previous season, Rinku admitted enjoying the success that came with that, adding he started getting recognised soon after. “I used to be wondering all the time if I would get to play further. I used to tell myself that I would do well in the next game and I should keep working hard. I kept working hard. “After those five sixes, my life changed. I started getting ads. People started to recognise me. Now I cannot go out alone. It feels good when hoardings of my name are there when people scream my name. I feel that I have done something in my life,” he added. However, of his role as a lower-order batter, Rinku said, "I have been playing at this number for long (in the middle order at number five or six), I know what to do. The more you keep yourself calm, the more you just react to the ball, it will be easier.” Meanwhile, Rinku’s KKR will take on SRH in IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 on Tuesday (May 21) in Ahmedabad. World Cup-winning Indian batter Gautam Gambhir has urged the authorities to do away with the use of two new balls in One-Day International (ODI) cricket, dubbing it the "worst thing" that had happened to the format.&nbsp;

The 50-over format has been battling relevance&nbsp;in recent years with the audience's attention slowly plummeting. The format hasn't been helped by the introduction of two new balls which Gambhir argues has fundamentally disadvantaged the finger spinners.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Two new balls in one-day cricket is probably the worst thing that can happen to ODI cricket. Imagine how many finger spinners play one-day cricket. There’s Nathan Lyon who’s got 400 wickets, there’s R Ashwin who’s got 400 wickets, and they are not a part of the One Day team, and the only reason is that there is nothing for a finger spinner," Gambhir said on the podcast 180 Not Out.

Gambhir also pointed out the absence of reverse swing from the game due to the introduction of the said rule. With two balls at either end, the conditions do not favour reverse swing which used to be&nbsp;a potent weapon for bowlers at the death prior to the rule change.&nbsp;

"Reverse swing... It has gone out of the game completely. I want to see reverse swing, I want to see batters getting challenged, and someone bowling at 150 and reversing the ball is always a challenge," said Gambhir.&nbsp;

"One rule that needs to change is getting rid of two new balls and having only one."

The Indian Cricket Board has granted Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan a lifeline following the central contract snub by adding them to the 30-member NCA’s High-Performance Monitoring Programme for the 2024-25 domestic season.

The Indian Cricket Board has granted Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan a lifeline following the central contract snub by adding them to the 30-member NCA’s High-Performance Monitoring Programme for the 2024-25 domestic season. Nearly two months ago, the BCCI excluded both from the central contract list as a punishment for missing the Ranji Trophy matches despite regular warnings from the board. However, Iyer and Ishan are now back in reckoning with their addition to this programme. In a chat with the Times of India (TOI), a source close to the information said the board has nothing against both the players but will not accept their attitude towards disregarding the domestic structure, which the BCCI secretary Jay Shah said is a yardstick for selection in the Indian Team. However, the source also added that the board could restore their central contracts and recall them to the Indian Team, given their performances are up to the mark, adding that these two match winners are on Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee’s radar. If they improve their attitude towards domestic cricket and turn out for their state teams (Mumbai and Jharkhand) in the forthcoming domestic season, there's every chance that their central contracts will be restored; they will be recalled into the Indian team if they perform well. This is a signal to them that they are on the radar of the selectors," an unnamed BCCI source said, as quoted by TOI. Per the report, the board has also included Musheer Khan – brother of Sarfaraz Khan, who played a handy role in helping Mumbai clinch the Ranji Trophy title for the record 42nd time this season. Laxman to lead the camp The source said the dates are yet to get finalised, with the chosen 30 to undergo a month-long camp under NCA head VVS Laxman’s guidance. "At some stage (dates aren't finalised) these 30 selected players for NCA's high-performance programme are likely to undergo around a month-long camp at the new state-of-the-art NCA facility near Bengaluru under chairman VVS Laxman. The new NCA will be launched by the BCCI in August. Most of these players have done well in domestic cricket," the source added. Besides these star players, others included are seamers Umran Malik, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan and others, while Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag, Ashutosh Sharma, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Kishore and Prithvi Shaw are among them too.

India captain Rohit Sharma launched a scathing attack on the IPL broadcaster – Star Sports for breaching players’ privacy during the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League.

India captain Rohit Sharma launched a scathing attack on the IPL broadcaster – Star Sports for breaching players’ privacy during the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. Rohit took to social media to question broadcasters’ role in deciding what to put out and what not, adding with cameras reaching everywhere, the players’ lives have become so intrusive. In his ‘X’ post, Rohit asked the broadcasters to draw the line somewhere. He further said that despite repeatedly requesting Star Sports not to record the conversation between players during the training session ahead of MI’s last group game, they did and later aired it on television, with clips surfacing all over the internet. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket,” the former MI captain wrote in a social media post. Not a happier space to be in Following last year’s home World Cup loss at the hands of Australia, Rohit Sharma hasn’t been in the happiest space. Although he led India to an emphatic Test series win over England at home, getting replaced by Hardik Pandya as the new MI captain ahead of IPL 2024 led to his downfall as a batter. While he started in most matches, even scoring a hundred against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit was used as an ‘Impact Player’ during the fag end of the tournament. Besides his poor form this season, which has been continuing for a few years now, Rohit is feeling out of place following Pandya’s appointment as MI skipper has been worrying. However, he will still lead the Men in Blue in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Americas starting June 2, with Pandya playing his deputy. India is placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, co-hosts USA, Canada and Ireland. India will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5 and will next face Pakistan in the marquee clash on Sunday (June 9) in New York.

A day after the Indian Cricket Board approached former two-time World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir for the soon-to-be-vacant Team India’s head coach position, ex-Australia coach Justin Langer shared his thoughts on what he called the ‘biggest job in cricket’.

A day after the Indian Cricket Board approached former two-time World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir for the soon-to-be-vacant Team India’s head coach position, ex-Australia coach Justin Langer shared his thoughts on what he called the ‘biggest job in cricket’. Following Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) 18-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024 the other night, Langer – the franchise’s head coach, opened up on being a head coach of a national team. Following the conclusion of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the Americas, current Coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure will expire, with the new coach taking over the job from July 1, 2024, for three and a half years. Since Dravid has rejected the chance of reapplying for the same position, citing personal reasons, the BCCI took to social media to invite applicants for India’s head coach role, with its deadline being May 27 – one day after the IPL 2024 final. ALSO READ: IPL 2024: Misery mounts for MI captain Pandya as BCCI slaps fine, one-match ban for slow over-rate vs LSG Explaining the challenges that come with this particular job, Langer said because of the volume of cricket and expectations of winning with this Indian Team, it would be a massive challenge for anyone applying for it. He added that the pleasure of winning an ICC trophy with this bunch of cricketers would be fun. "It would almost be the biggest job in cricket - being the head coach of the Indian cricket team," Langer said. "One, because of the huge volume of cricket and the huge expectation. It would be a great challenge. It would be great fun, and it would be a wonderful opportunity to win ICC titles,” he added. ‘It’s encompassing, exhausting’ Having coached the Aussie team earlier, guiding them to their maiden ICC T20 WC title in 2021, Langer said he knows what one goes through, adding Dravid and Ravi Shastri (former India coach) could tell everyone the same thing. "But with all these things, the timing has got to be right. I did four or so years with the Australian cricket team. It is all encompassing. It is exhausting. Rahul Dravid will probably tell you the same thing, and Ravi Shastri will probably tell you the same thing. The pressure on winning for the Indian team is massive," Langer continued. Meanwhile, Langer coached LSG this season, guiding them to a sixth-place finish with seven wins and as many losses in 14 contested matches. (With inputs from agencies)

‘Biggest job in cricket but exhausting’ – Justin Langer on Team India’s head coach role

The Indian Cricket Board has approached two-time World Cup winner and former opener Gautam Gambhir to become Team India’s head coach following Rahul Dravid’s tenure, which ends with the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA.

The Indian Cricket Board has approached two-time World Cup winner and former opener Gautam Gambhir to become Team India’s head coach following Rahul Dravid’s tenure, which ends with the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA. The BCCI is keen on having Gambhir on board as the next head coach, whose tenure would run for three and a half years, starting July 1, 2024. Per the latest reports, the board has zeroed in on Gambhir to take over the most important role in Indian Cricket. With Dravid’s tenure set to end in June, the BCCI released a statement last week seeking applicants to fill Dravid’s shoes as Team India’s head coach. The deadline for name submission is May 27, a day after the IPL 2024 final. The National Cricket Academy head has also reportedly denied applying for the job. While Gambhir has yet to coach a national side, his resume in the IPL has been no less than impressive. A two-time IPL winner with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2012 and 2014, Gambhir is currently the franchise's mentor, guiding them to their first-ever first-place finish in the group stages this season. Before rejoining KKR as the mentor ahead of this season, Gambhir coached Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their first two seasons, guiding them to playoffs both times. It is the third consecutive time that Gambhir-led side has entered the final four of an IPL season. Although he is busy with proceedings at KKR with the playoffs approaching, the BCCI will resume talks after the season ends on May 26 (Sunday). Gambhir – a hero of the game! Widely known for his clutch innings in two World Cup-winning finals (75 against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 WC final and 97 against Sri Lanka in the 2011 WC final), Gambhir was known for playing his heart on his sleeves. Even as a mentor or a coach for an IPL franchise, Gambhir has shown why he is heads and shoulders ahead of his contemporaries, with a sole aim in mind – to win. Meanwhile, some overseas names, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming, are being considered as options for the head coach position. (With inputs from agencies)

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah has picked his final four for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA, excluding the defending champions England and India’s arch-rivals Pakistan. Shah also touched upon the most talked-about ‘Impact Player’ rule in IPL 2024, further weighing on the yardsticks considered during team selection for the marquee events. Following the heartbreak India suffered at the hands of Australia in the home World Cup final last year, India geared up for the upcoming 20-team tournament starting June 2, aiming to end their ICC trophy drought. However, Rohit Sharma-led Indian Team will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5 before taking on Pakistan in the marquee clash on June 9 in New York. Co-hosts USA and Canada are the remaining two teams in Group A. In an exclusive chat with the Times of India (TOI), Shah named his four semi-finalists, including the Men in Blue and favourites India. “India, Australia, New Zealand and the hosts, West Indies, because they are good in T20,” Shah picked his final four at the T20 World Cup. ALSO READ: IPL 2024: ‘I am not a result–oriented captain’ – Pandya reflects on debut stint as MI skipper While the star power and exploits in world cricket makes India the team to beat, former winners West Indies and Australia will also threaten all participating nations. Including New Zealand makes sense as they walk into any ICC tournament with the tag of favourites. When asked about the yardstick behind picking the team for the ICC tournaments, Shah said the teams are not picked alone on IPL performance, as international exposure and experience also count. His remarks have somewhat backed the selection of under-fire India captain Rohit Sharma and veteran batter Virat Kohli, who was under the radar for his strike rate in the shortest format. Speaking on the team balance for the T20 WC, Shah said, “It has a good balance between form and experience. The selectors cannot choose on the basis of IPL performance alone, as overseas experience is also necessary.” Shah’s remarks on ‘Impact Player’ rule Impact Player rule is a controversial topic, with several cricketing greats including former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting bashing this latest introduction to IPL, calling it the nightmare for the coaches and the captains. Shah differed on the issue, saying it’s a test case, and that the board is consulting players, teams and all parties concerned about their thought on the same. Although he accepts that the contest is getting exciting with this, upon receiving disapproval over its use, they can make changes to it. “It's a test case. We are consulting players, franchisees and all concerned. I feel the matches are getting more interesting, more Indian players are getting a chance to play. If our consultations reveal dissatisfaction, we will change it,” he said.

Stephen Fleming remains frontrunner for Indian men's cricket team head coach job

Current Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has not reapplied for the top position following his tenure conclusion after the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA.

Current Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has not reapplied for the top position following his tenure conclusion after the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA. The top contender for the job, VVS Laxman, has reportedly denied taking up the opportunity. Laxman has been serving as the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head for three years now, and upon contacting him to replace Dravid as the men’s team head coach, the veteran batter sounded ‘uninterested’. Per the latest report, Laxman was discussed as the possible contender to replace Dravid, but he refused to accept the offer for reasons known to him. BCCI released the job application on their social media handles, with the deadline being May 27. Though several top players in the team have urged Dravid to reconsider, the Indian veteran denied it, saying he wishes to spend more time with his family following the end of his contract tenure. But India fell shy of achieving their goal in all those contests. Under Dravid, India won the home Test series against Australia and England, while winning the Asia Cup last year was the highlight of his tenure. Top contender for Team India’s head coach position denies offer as BCCI seek overseas options – Reports

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) head coach Justin langer has not ruled out throwing his hat in the ring to be Rahul Dravid's successor. Dravid's contract as the head coach of the&nbsp;men's senior national team expires after the T20 World Cup and BCCI has invited applications from prospective candidates for the position.

Langer said he was "curious" about the head coach position, adding that it would be an extraordinary role, in an interview with Times of India.&nbsp;

“Well, I am curious. I’ve never ever thought about it. I have deep respect for any international coach because I understand the pressure, but coaching the Indian team would be an extraordinary role. And you’ve got 100% accountability!" he added.

Prior to being LSG&nbsp;coach, Langer served as Australia's men's team head coach for nearly four years. He took the job in the aftermath of the Sandpaper Gate with the Australian team in turmoil.

Although Australia lost the home Test series to India twice in his tenure, Langer managed to correct the ship and guided the team to 2021 T20 World Cup win whilst retaining the Ashes on two separate occasions viz. 2019 and 2021.&nbsp;

<h2>BCCI invites applications</h2>

BCCI on Monday (May 13) invited applications for the head coach job. The CV's must be&nbsp;submitted by "6 pm IST on May 27, 2024," the BCCI said in a statement.&nbsp;Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, also cleared that there will be no split coaching duties.&nbsp;

"We are looking for a long-term coach for three years," Shah had said last week. "There is no precedent of different coaches for different formats in Indian cricket. Besides, we have a number of all-format players. Ultimately, it will be the Cricket Advisory Committee's (CAC) call. I have to implement what they decide," said Shah.&nbsp;

Dravid would be eligible to re-apply for the post as his tenure wouldn't be automatically extended.

"We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body," Shah added.

Dravid's contract as the head coach of the men's senior national team expires after the T20 World Cup and BCCI has invited applications from prospective candidates for the position. Langer said he was "curious" about the head coach position, adding that it would be an extraordinary role, in an interview with Times of India. “Well, I am curious. I’ve never ever thought about it. I have deep respect for any international coach because I understand the pressure, but coaching the Indian team would be an extraordinary role. From what I’ve seen with the amount of talent I’ve seen in this country, it would be fascinating,” Langer was quoted as saying by the publication. “I went straight from playing to coaching – as an assistant coach, which is the best coach job in the world. You work about two hours a day, everyone’s your best friend, and you’ve got no accountability. Then you become head coach, oh man, then you work about 16 hours a day. No one likes you. And you’ve got 100% accountability!" he added. Prior to being LSG coach, Langer served as Australia's men's team head coach for nearly four years. The current Indian Team head coach, Rahul Dravid, is unlikely to reapply for the to-be-vacant position despite BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirming the board has kept the doors open for the India great to continue as the top boss across formats.

The current Indian Team head coach, Rahul Dravid, is unlikely to reapply for the to-be-vacant position despite BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirming the board has kept the doors open for the India great to continue as the top boss across formats. With Shah announcing that BCCI will invite applicants for the head coach’s role following the 2024 T20 World Cup, Dravid is likely to let go of this chance, per the latest reports. Following last year’s home World Cup, where India finished runners-up, the BCCI extended Dravid’s contract until the showpiece event in the Caribbean and the USA this year. Under Dravid’s coaching since, India won the away white-ball series against South Africa late last year, won the home T20Is against Afghanistan and beat England 4-1 in the home Test series. ALSO READ: 'I respect Kohli' - Rizwan wins hearts with warm take on India legend following 2nd T20I win against IRE Per Dravid’s contract extension clause, his final assignment will be the T20 WC starting June 1. Although India dominated across formats under Dravid’s guidance, including reaching the semis of the 2022 T20 WC and making the finals of the World Test Championship for the second straight time last year, they failed to get their hands on the trophy. With the 20-team tournament offering both Dravid and Team India the last chance to go for the trophy together, it remains to be seen where they end up in the ninth edition of this tournament. Doors open for a foreign coach Considering the BCCI has appointed only Indian coaches since Duncan Fletcher, the board is reportedly open to having foreign coaches this time around. Although the board is yet to open invitations for the same, several contenders are already interested in bagging the coveted job in Indian cricket. Meanwhile, Shah said that the appointment of the backroom staff, including the batting, bowling and fielding coaches, will be determined once the head coach is picked. “We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC),” Jay Shah said earlier. Notably, under Gary Kirsten as coach, India lifted the 2011 50-over World Cup in India, winning it after 28 years, whereas, under Fletcher, India won the Champions Trophy in England two years later.

The Indian Cricket Board has proposed a series of changes for the Ranji Trophy, including in the schedule, ensuring better function of the premier domestic tournament throughout the year.

The Indian Cricket Board has proposed a series of changes for the Ranji Trophy, including in the schedule, ensuring better function of the premier domestic tournament throughout the year. With players and logistics going for a toss in the concluded season owing to severe weather disruptions, the BCCI mulls holding the Ranji Trophy in two phases to avoid such issues while considering players feel exerted due to tight windows between matches. Per BCCI’s latest proposal, the upcoming Ranji Trophy season would begin in late September or early October, with the board's apex council reviewing this proposal. Following the first five rounds of the competition, the senior men’s white-ball tournaments, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (50 overs) will be conducted. The remainder of the Ranji season, including the three rounds of group matches and the knockouts, will be staged right after that. ALSO READ: IPL: Pandya hails bowlers in KKR defeat but seniors’ poor form worries fans as T20 World Cup looms Meanwhile, in the concluded Ranji Trophy season, the tournament began in early January, with several matches during the first half getting affected by the weather conditions, mainly in North India. With fog causing trouble, the logistics were also hit, with captains and coaches voicing their concerns publicly. More gap between matches Besides, per the latest proposal, the Indian board would increase the gap from three to four days between matches, especially during the first-class tournaments. Plenty of players, including India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, had asked BCCI to manage time between matches for players to rejuvenate and recover, considering the lengthy competition. For instance, Mumbai played ten first-class games inside as many weeks during their title run season. "If boys keep playing like this for two more seasons, there will be a lot of injuries across the country," ESPNcricinfo had quoted Shardul as saying. "Next year, they [the BCCI] have to re-look at it and give more breaks. When I remember playing Ranji Trophy back in the day, [a] good seven to eight years back, the first three games used to have a three-day break, and then it was a four-day break, and knockouts were played with five-day breaks,” he added. Moreover, the BCCI had also announced the increase in match fees for the domestic cricketers, with a pay hike for the contracted India cricketers, with a motive of luring them into playing Tests.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to release an advertisement for a new head coach for the senior men's team, as disclosed by the board secretary Jay Shah in Mumbai on Wednesday (May 8). It is to be noted that Rahul Dravid -- the current head coach -- accepted the offer to extend his original contract till June this year. Hence, his contract will expire after the end of India's campaign in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the USA.

<h2>'If Dravid wants to apply, he is free to do so'</h2>

"Rahul's tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so," the BCCI secretary said. Meanwhile other members of the coaching staff -- such as batting, bowling, and fielding coaches -- will be decided after consultation with the new coach.

Notably, Shah did not rule out the possibility of recruiting a foreign coach and left the issue open-ended.

"We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body," the BCCI official said, indicating that the board is not likely to consider different coaches for different formats, a system adopted by boards such as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in recent times.

Shah added, "That decision will also be made by the CAC. There are many all-format players, like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, among others. Moreover, there is no precedent for such a situation in India."

The BCCI secretary has confirmed that the new coach will serve for a long term, for an initial period of three years at least.

Dravid took the coaching job in late 2021, succeeding Ravi Shastri.

Irrespective of his next move, Dravid will be eager to sign off his current term on a high, leading India to their second T20 WC triumph in the 2024 edition in June.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh lavished praise on Virat Kohli and labelled him as the best batter of this generation. Yuvraj further stated that the former Indian captain deserves to win a World Cup medal more than anyone else. Kohli is gearing up for India's upcoming campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 edition, in West Indies and USA in June, where he will compete in the tournament for the sixth time.&nbsp;

Kohli has been in sensational form in T20 WC history, amassing 1,143 runs. The 35-year-old was adjudged Player of the Tournament in 2014 and 2016 as well as in the 2022 edition. However, he has never won the T20 WC as his first-ever appearance came in 2012, five years after India's championship win in the inaugural season in 2007. He came close to winning the ODI World Cup at home in&nbsp;2023 but India lost to Australia in the final. Kohli ended up with 765 runs -- most by any batter in a single edition.

<h2>'I think he is also someone who needs a World Cup medal'</h2>

Thus, Kohli remains India's biggest player, especially in mega-events, and Yuvraj has backed him to win another&nbsp;World Cup title soon. The former Indian all-rounder said in a chat with ICC, "The best batter of this generation, I feel, in all formats. And I think he is also someone who needs a World Cup medal. He has one. I'm sure he is not satisfied with one. I think he surely deserves that medal as well."

Indian cricket team's official kit sponsor, Adidas, on Monday (May 6) unveiled the senior men's jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and USA in June. The Indian team will don the kit for the tournament, hoping to end their trophy drought in the ICC tournaments.&nbsp;

The sportswear giant released the unveiling video, featuring Indian captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The video shot at the HPCA Stadium in Himachal Pradesh shows a giant-sized replica of the Indian jersey flying in the backdrop of the picturesque Himalayas.&nbsp;

The new kit is starkly different from the 2021 World Cup kit which had a dark blue hue with orange highlights only featuring on the collar. Adidas has gone with a combination of traditional blue at the front, and orange features on the shoulders with Adidas stripes on it.&nbsp;However, the jersey has only one star instead of the three usually seen on India's limited-overs jerseys.&nbsp;

Similarly for the ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue have two stars to mark India's 1983 and 2011 ODI World Cup wins.&nbsp;

Here’s why India’s T20 World Cup jersey unveiled by Adidas has only one star

India and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube secured his second consecutive duck in the ongoing IPL 2024, getting out to Rahul Chahar, caught behind on a first-ball zero against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.

His under-par showing came just after his T20 World Cup call-up, wherein he pairs with Hardik Pandya in the 15-man squad for the marquee event, starting June 1 in the Caribbean and the USA. In the home game in Chennai, Harpreet Brar trapped him in front on a first-ball duck, and on Sunday in Dharamsala, he edged one to the keeper off Chahar. He scored three fifties thus far, while smashing 26 sixes – third most thus far in this season. His exploits in the middle overs, batting at number four, lit up CSK’s campaign, mostly at home, as he racked up runs at will. However, two poor outings have humbled him, with CSK approaching the fag end of the tournament. Although Chennai has 10 points in as many matches, they still need to win at least two out of their remaining four games to push for a playoff berth. CSK put up a moderate total in Dharamsala Chennai batted first in Dharamsala against Punjab and lost opener Ajinkya Rahane early inside the second over. Captain Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell added 57 for the second wicket before Rahul Chahar picked two wickets in two balls, including Gaikwad and Dube. Mitchell departed soon after as Captain Sam Curran got his compatriot Moeen Ali out on 17 later. Two left-handed all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner, tried saving the sinking ship but couldn’t put pressure on the home side. Jadeja was their top-scorer with 43 off 26 balls, but Chahar and Harshal Patel made headlines for returning with three wickets each. Harshal even dismissed CSK legend MS Dhoni bowled on a first-ball duck as PBKS restricted CSK to 167 for nine.

Latest ICC rankings: Australia topple India to usurp top spot in Tests

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has named India favourites for the 2024 T20 World Cup&nbsp;to&nbsp;be played in the West Indies and the USA in June. On Tuesday (April 30), the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, named India's 15-man squad which saw the return of Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant with Sanju Samson also getting a look-in. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube also got included whereas&nbsp;KL Rahul was dropped.

Rinku Singh, who has been India's finisher in the format in the recent past, was not part of the main squad but has been named in the reserves list. Speaking on Rohit Sharma-led India&nbsp;squad, Sangakkara -- who is currently serving as Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach in IPL 2024 -- lauded the squad and made a big claim.

Sanga, ahead of RR's away game versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday (May 2), said in Hyderabad, "It's (India) an extremely strong squad. They've got their batting covered, they've got their all-rounders in. They've got very high-quality spin and they've got very good combinations that they can play."

And they'll be having two or three different combinations, depending on whether they want a deeper batting line-up or more strength in their bowling. But it's a really well-balanced squad, a very strong squad and India's always been very strong in international tournaments."

India favourites for T20 World Cup 2024, says Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara

In a detailed presser on Thursday (May 2) in Mumbai, India Captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar discussed various topics, including growing concerns around star batter Virat Kohli’s T20 strike rate.

In a detailed presser on Thursday (May 2) in Mumbai, India Captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar discussed various topics, including growing concerns around star batter Virat Kohli’s T20 strike rate. Despite plenty of talk on how Kohli slows down as his inning progresses in this format with the social media filled with stats around that, Agarkar said the leadership group didn’t even feel the need to discuss that while picking the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. Addressing questions around the same, Agarkar said Virat has been in top-notch form and was one of the first names on the team sheet for the 20-team tournament. Agarkar, a former T20 World Cup winner, backed Kohli, saying experience plays a huge role on such stages, and that is where Virat comes into the picture. ALSO READ: Core team for T20 World Cup was decided before IPL 2024, reveals Rohit Sharma “We have not been discussing it (Virat Kohli’s strike rate). He has been in great form; no concerns there at all. You are still going to a World Cup, there is still a gap there. That’s where experience does matter a lot," said Agarkar. “If the tournament turns out like the IPL. If 220 (pitch) plays like 220, we have the skills. At the end of the day, when you turn up for a World Cup, the pressure is different,” Agarkar said of Kohli’s strike rate and selection for the T20 World Cup," he further added. Kohli bashes doubters Following remaining unbeaten against Gujarat Titans in a successful run chase, Kohli, who scored 70 off 44 balls, bashed the ones who kept questioning his commitment to the team in the name of poor strike rate. After the game, which RCB won by nine wickets – their third thus far this season, Kohli said those who sit in a box and talk about his T20 strike rate haven’t been in his situation. “All the people who talk about strike rates and me not playing spin well are the ones talking about this stuff. For me, it’s about winning games for the team, and there’s a reason why you’ve done it for 15 years, you’ve done this day in and day out, you’ve won games for your teams,” Kohli said after helping his team win against GT. “I’m not quite sure if you haven’t been in that situation yourself, to sit and talk about the game from the box. For me, people can talk about their assumptions day in and day out, but those who have done (it) day in and day out, they know what’s happening, and it’s a kind of muscle memory for me now,” the India star continued. Meanwhile, as things stand, Kohli is the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2024, with 500 runs in ten matches and a strike rate of 147.49.

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar revealed that IPL performances had less to do with the squad announcement for the 2024 T20 World Cup, as the selectors and the leadership group had already thought of the core team before the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league got underway.

Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar revealed that IPL performances had less to do with the squad announcement for the 2024 T20 World Cup, as the selectors and the leadership group had already thought of the core team before the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league got underway. Following naming the final 15 for the 20-team-tournament starting June 2 in the Caribbean and the USA, Rohit and chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media in Mumbai on Thursday (May 2). Reflecting on the squad selection for the marquee event, Rohit said considering India is not playing any T20I in the lead-up to the tournament, and with the IPL presenting the only chance for the chosen players to get match practice, the leadership group decided on the core group and the playing XI in their heads before IPL 2024. He added that there were intense talks and behind-the-scene preparations for the T20 World Cup during the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. ALSO READ: 'He has done nothing...': Ajit Agarkar on Rinku Singh's exclusion from T20 WC squad "We sort of make your playing XI in your mind and try and work around it. A lot of the prep and the talk happen during the IPL, and a lot of these guys have been playing this format for a while. It's not like there's anyone new. They all have been playing international cricket and the IPL. The talk of what our 15 was going to be like started much before the IPL,” Rohit said. IPL is not the yardstick for selection With 70-80% of the squad already decided, the selectors were looking at IPL 2024 performances for those remaining places up for grabs. While most selections are on expected lines, the addition of Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal and most likely that of Yashasvi Jaiswal had more to do with their IPL 2024 outings. "We just had to look at a few individuals during the IPL. In the IPL, the performance changes every day, and you can't really change your plan around it. We had an idea of what our core group, 70-80 per cent of the squad before the IPL. And a few changes after that, we were prepared for that as well," Rohit added. As far as fans are concerned, they were shocked to see Rinku Singh’s absence from the main squad, with the BCCI having him on board as part of the travelling reserves. However, like all participating teams, India can make amends to their final 15 till May 24. Here is India’s squad for 2024 T20 World Cup – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Hardik Pandya (Vice Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohd. 'I won't say in public': Rohit Sharma keeps mum on picking four spinners for T20 WC

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media on Thursday (May 2) regarding the squad picked for the T20 World Cup,&nbsp;scheduled to get underway in the West Indies and USA next month. Quizzed about the controversial exclusion of Rinku Singh, Agarkar said it was the 'toughest' decision he has had to take and that Rinku had nothing wrong to deserve the snub.&nbsp;

The fans and former cricketers have been fuming ever since Rinku was dropped from the squad, despite having proven&nbsp;his worth in the shortest format of the game, whenever given a chance.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Toughest thing we have had to do. He [Rinku]&nbsp;has done nothing wrong or for that matter Shubman Gill. It is about the combination...we are not sure about the conditions we will get," said Agarkar.&nbsp;

"We wanted to try and have enough options. There are&nbsp;a couple of wrist spinners included - Chahal and Kuldeep to give Rohit more options. Axar, again, a batting allrounder or rather bowling allrounder," he added.&nbsp;

Agarkar, who donned the Indian jersey in four T20Is said it was unfortunate that Rinku missed out on the WC flight.&nbsp;

"It&nbsp;is just unfortunate, I don't think it has anything to do with Rinku. It is not his ball that he has&nbsp;missed out," said Agarkar.&nbsp;

"He is still one of the travelling subs, that's how close he was. I know it can be a little bit tough on him but at the end of the day, you can only pick 15."

Addressing concerns about why four spinners were included in the squad when one of the places could have gone to Rinku, Rohit cleared that he wanted four spinners in the squad.

"I wanted four spinners. The match starts at 10 in the morning and there is little technical aspect involved. I won't give the entire reason for it," said Rohit.&nbsp;

<h2>Fans furious</h2>

Ever since making his debut for the Indian team in the T20 format, Rinku has been one of the most consistent batters.&nbsp;In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Rinku has scored 356 runs at an enviable average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24.&nbsp;

Despite the stats backing Rinku's ability,&nbsp;the selectors opted to go with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube as the preferred finishers, primarily due to their bowling abilities.

"We want someone in the middle over to play that role [hitting big]&nbsp;and play&nbsp;freely and we picked Dube based on what he's done in IPL. We spoke about it and selected but our playing XI isn't guaranteed," said Rohit on Dube's selection.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media on Thursday (May 2) regarding the squad picked for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to get underway in the West Indies and USA next month.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media on Thursday (May 2) regarding the squad picked for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to get underway in the West Indies and USA next month. Quizzed about the controversial exclusion of Rinku Singh, Agarkar said it was the 'toughest' decision he has had to take and that Rinku had nothing wrong to deserve the snub. The fans and former cricketers have been fuming ever since Rinku was dropped from the squad, despite having proven his worth in the shortest format of the game, whenever given a chance. "Toughest thing we have had to do. He [Rinku] has done nothing wrong or for that matter Shubman Gill. It is about the combination...we are not sure about the conditions we will get," said Agarkar. "We wanted to try and have enough options. There are a couple of wrist spinners included - Chahal and Kuldeep to give Rohit more options. Axar, again, a batting allrounder or rather bowling allrounder," he added. Agarkar, who donned the Indian jersey in four T20Is said it was unfortunate that Rinku missed out on the WC flight. "It is just unfortunate, I don't think it has anything to do with Rinku. It is not his ball that he has missed out," said Agarkar. "He is still one of the travelling subs, that's how close he was. I know it can be a little bit tough on him but at the end of the day, you can only pick 15." Addressing concerns about why four spinners were included in the squad when one of the places could have gone to Rinku, Rohit cleared that he wanted four spinners in the squad. "I wanted four spinners. The match starts at 10 in the morning and there is little technical aspect involved. I won't give the entire reason for it," said Rohit. 'He has done nothing...': Ajit Agarkar on Rinku Singh's exclusion from T20 WC squad

Indian cricket's newest sensation, Mayank Yadav, is set to receive a pace-bowling contract from the BCCI, per the latest report; however, the Delhi seamer might miss the remainder of IPL 2024 with a potential abdominal muscle tear, which he suffered during his return game against Mumbai Indians.

It's his second injury since making a mind-blowing IPL debut earlier this season. Per a source close to the information, Mayank has suffered a grade 1 tear, staying on the sidelines at least till the group games. However, the source claims if Mayank recovers from the injury and LSG qualify for the playoffs, he could return to the playing XI. "Mayank has a tear, but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the playoffs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. But it is like hoping against hope, and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games," a BCCI source informed PTI on condition of anonymity. ALSO READ: India favourites for T20 World Cup 2024, says Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara Meanwhile, making headlines for clocking over 150 Kmph regularly, with wicket-taking line and length, Mayank has been rewarded for his exploits, as BCCI seeks to handle his situation with utmost care. The Indian Cricket Board picked a few bowlers - Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal and Akash Deep, who would be handed the pace-bowling contract. "He will soon be handed a pace bowling contract, and once he is in the BCCI Pathways structure, his growth will be systematically monitored. "The national selection committee and the Indian team management would like to gradually blood him and ensure that he can maintain peak fitness," the BCCI source added. What is a pace-bowling contract? Under this contract, Mayank, alongside all other names, will be placed under NCA's Sports Science and Medical team’s supervision, which will take care of his injury management and fitness programme. Meanwhile, following his blockbuster IPL debut, wherein he won two back-to-back Player of the Match awards, Mayank suffered stiffness in his lower back during his third match (against GT), missing a few games for Lucknow later. Upon his return to the playing XI for the MI game at home, he walked away in discomfort after bowling 3.1 overs, picking one wicket and conceding 31 runs. However, the latest reports suggest that Mayank was considered for selection for the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA. But given his injury status, BCCI’s primary aim is to ensure he remains fit, as they wish to bring him into contention for his international debut.

‘He is heartbroken’: Rinku Singh’s father reveals son’s reaction on T20 WC exclusion

On Wednesday (May 1), former England captain Michael Vaughan predicted the semifinalists of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The upcoming edition will be held in the West Indies and USA in June. Many major teams have announced their squads for the mega event and, thus, Vaughan shared his last four for the ninth edition. While many former cricketers and experts have named India and Australia or India and England as the two finalists, Vaughan made a bold claim by not including the Asian giants.&nbsp;

Neither India nor Pakistan!

Vaughan's T20 WC semifinalists are defending champions England, Australia, South Africa and co-hosts West Indies. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "My 4 Semi finalists for the T20 WC … England, Austrlalia, South Africa and the West Indies .. #T20WC2024"

Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has ripped into the selectors for not picking Rinku Singh in the provisional 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.&nbsp;Srikkanth said Rinku was being made a scapegoat as the selectors picked their favourites in the squad.&nbsp;

You drop anyone else, it doesn't matter. In my view, Rinku Singh should have been there, even if that meant you had to drop Yashasvi Jaiswal," said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.

‘You’ve made him a scapegoat,’ former Indian cricketer blasts BCCI for Rinku Singh’s exclusion from WC squad

The BCCI selection committee on Tuesday (Apr 30) named the 15-member provisional squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, scheduled to start in the West Indies and United States in June.

While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retained their positions in the squad, and Yuzvendra Chahal making a comeback, several gun players have been left out by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, that has raised eyebrows all around&nbsp;

Rinku Singh:

One of the biggest names to miss out on the squad is Rinku Singh who has been put&nbsp;in the four-man reserve squad. Singh has had a relatively sedate IPL so far and the selectors have gone ahead with power hitter Shivam Dube ahead of him.

In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Singh has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24&nbsp;- a stat combination that not many modern batters can boast of.&nbsp;

Shubman Gill:

The star Indian opener was a guaranteed starter in the Indian squad prior to the IPL but some modest contributions with the bat for Gujarat&nbsp;Titans led to his demotion.&nbsp;

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli making it to the squad, it was always going to be a touch-and-go scenario for Gill who would now have to wait in the wings for an opportunity.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/cricket/t20-world-cup-2024-indias-squad-to-be-led-by-rohit-sharma-pant-samson-in-rahul-out-716656">Also read |&nbsp;T20 World Cup 2024: India's squad to be led by Rohit Sharma; Pant &amp; Samson in, Rahul out</a>

Ruturaj Gaikwad:

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been having a stellar season with the bat so far. Having already smashed a century and nearly getting another in consecutive matches, Gaikwad would be crestfallen to not have even made it to the reserves for the World Cup.&nbsp;

Ravi Bishnoi:

With Yuzvendra Chahal on the periphery of the Indian squad for a long time, many believed that Ravi Bishnoi was going to partner Kuldeep Yadav in the World Cup. However, the selectors went ahead with tried-and-tested Chahal in the squad.&nbsp;

Mukesh Kumar:

The pacer had been in the reckoning for the Indian squad, having played the T20I series against Afghanistan in January. However, the selectors preferred to go with the known commodities that have been doing the heavy-lifting in the pace department for the last few years.&nbsp;

Notably, according to ICC guidelines, all teams are allowed to make changes to their squad until May 25, after which&nbsp;any alteration will require approval from ICC's Event Technical Committee.

India squad:&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj

However, the selectors went ahead with tried-and-tested Chahal in the squad. Mukesh Kumar: The pacer had been in the reckoning for the Indian squad, having played the T20I series against Afghanistan in January. However, the selectors preferred to go with the known commodities that have been doing the heavy-lifting in the pace department for the last few years. Notably, according to ICC guidelines, all teams are allowed to make changes to their squad until May 25, after which any alteration will require approval from ICC's Event Technical Committee. India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. India T20 World Cup squad: Five ‘unlucky’ players who missed the WC flight

Indian cricket fans were furious after the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar announced the 15-member T20 World Cup squad on Tuesday (Apr 30) evening. The exclusion of Rinku Singh from the squad invited the wrath of the fans who questioned if performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the only criterion for player selection.&nbsp;

Ever since making his debut for the Indian team in the T20 format, Rinku has been one of the most consistent batters.&nbsp;In his short 15-match T20I career so far, Singh has scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and strike rate of 176.24&nbsp;- a stat combination that not many modern batters can boast of, especially in the Indian squad.&nbsp;

The southpaw has been dropped after getting limited batting opportunities with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL.&nbsp;

Apart from Rinku's exclusion, fans were not happy with Yuzvendra Chahal being rushed back into the squad, especially owing to his known struggles on the international circuit. Ravi Bishnoi was being touted as the other wrist-spinner to partner Kuldeep Yadav on the world stage but the selectors went back to the conservative choice.&nbsp;

Similar was the case with Shubman Gill who had to contend with a spot in the reserves as both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma got the nod to play, what could arguably be their last ICC tournament.

Here are some of the reactions from fans and pundits over the squad selection:

I simply cannot believe they've dropped a finisher as consistently brilliant as Rinku has been and when it's a gaping hole in his absence. ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024: Latest updates of all squads named so far

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and India captain Rohit Sharma are said to have an informal meeting on the team selection for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup (in the Caribbean and the USA) in New Delhi as the deadline date (May 1) for the squad submission nears.

Under ICC’s regulations, all participating teams must submit their final squads one month before the start of the tournament, which gets underway on June 1. As per the latest reports, Agarkar flew to the national capital to watch the Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians IPL clash the other day and is said to be sitting with Rohit before the selectors decide on the final 15 for the 20-team tournament. Although most of the first-team players will walk into the side for the marquee event, the decision-makers will discuss the selection of a couple of players. Earlier reports suggested that there won’t be many surprises in the final 15, with the focus on MI captain Hardik Pandya. Under Pandya’s captaincy, Mumbai has struggled to find a rhythm, losing six out of the nine contested matches. While Pandya looks out of sorts as he struggles with the bat in hand, selectors would look into how he bowls as they wish to name one of the two between Pandya and Shivam Dube for the all-rounders’ slot in the Indian Team. ALSO READ: IPL 2024: CSK coach Michael Hussey comes in defence of Ravindra Jadeja over batting concerns Meanwhile, Dube has pressed for his case for selection with his outstanding show this season, with the ball in the selectors’ court on whom to pick. Outside of the regulars, including Rishabh Pant as the first-choice keeper, KL Rahul is said to be leading the race for the backup choice, with Sanju Samson lagging despite power showing in IPL 2024. For the middle and lower order, two batters to be discussed are Rinku Singh and MI’s Tilak Varma. While both have impressed with their constant performances this season, Rinku might make the cut ahead of Varma. Who’d be the bowlers? Ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are the likely contenders for the pace department; the selectors are also keen on picking two spin-bowling all-rounders in Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, with Kuldeep Yadav being the lone specialist. However, the selectors are not ruling out the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal or Ravi Bishnoi as the second-choice spinner, with Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar in line to find a place in the side for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
