In order to reduce carbon emissions and lessen its reliance on fossil fuels, the Indian Army plans to induct electric vehicles (EV) wherever possible. The force has set a target for introducing light vehicles, buses, and motorcycles across various locations.

The Army's EV drive will result in the replacement of about 25% of light vehicles, 38% of buses, and 48% of motorbikes with suitable charging infrastructure in some peacetime units and formations. To help the EV drive, the Army is putting infrastructure in place. It has erected transformers with sufficient load bearing capacity based on the projected number of EVs per station, and it has installed charging stations in the parking lots of businesses and apartment buildings. Additionally, solar-powered charging facilities are currently being developed.

As per reports, the current shortage of buses would be filled by purchasing electric buses for initial usage by a few selected peace establishments and that a tender for the purchase of 60 buses and 24 fast chargers is anticipated to be floated soon. In the border village of North Kashmir's Gurez sector, close to the Line of Control, the Indian Army has set up a skill development centre to empower local women. The Indian Army has chosen the best location for the skill development centre overlooking the Habba Khatoon Peak in Gurez Valley. These women are being trained in various skills to make them independent.

Habba Khatoon known as 'The Nightingale of Kashmir' was a poet from the 16th century and holds great respect in Kashmir. And there could have been no better inspiration for these women. These women are taught various skills including computers, stitching and other skills.

The main motive of the Indian Army is to make the women independent so that they can start a business of their own. And the women attending these classes are thankful to the Indian Army for opening the skill development centre in Gurez valley.

"This is a great opportunity for us and will benefit all of us. Skill development is very important in a world, where everything is digital. Most of us had completed our studies and didn't have a job and now by this we are able to spend our time with each other and learn a skill. We are not wasting our time anymore and also becoming independent. It's a great platform provided by the Indian Army which has played a great role for the people living in far flung areas. We are highly thankful to the Indian Army," said Saima, a student.

The bordering villages of North Kashmir have faced a lot of violence due to continuous ceasefire violations from across the border for decades. Hundreds of people were killed and injured during these violations. Many houses and properties were damaged too. The local women have suffered a lot due to the volatile situation. These people are living a normal life finally after the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan last year.

The area generally gets cut off after the first snowfall in April and people, especially women, have not much to do.

"I want to thank the Indian Army for opening this centre. It gave us a great opportunity, we were sitting at home and not doing anything. We are learning various skills and the main thing is that we were not doing anything in winters and now we have a skill and an institute to come and learn and earn from," said Roshni, a student.

The Indian Army has been working hard to open such kinds of initiatives for the women living in these bordering areas. Many such centres have been opened in various sectors close to the Line of Control.

The process of sending material to these forward posts is started in the months of April- May. If these mules had not been there, it would have been very difficult for the Indian Army to carry supplies and material to the posts in the higher reaches.

''The Border Posts of ours near the line of control are at a very high altitude and there are no roads to reach to some of them, there has been a lot of improvement in the road connectivity from the last few years. These mules are the lifeline for the Indian Army as they carry all the supplies, arms and ammunition, construction and food material to these posts. We maintain these mules and we send them to different posts and areas depending on what is required where. We start the process in the months of April-May as the snow starts to melt, we carry on these tasks till the first snowfall in October-November. Any other movement during snowfall is impossible and there is only movement by helicopter services,'' said Rajesh Kumar, CO Military Field Veterinary Hospital.

These mules have been kept in the Indian Army to help carry material in areas which have no access to roads. The breeding of these mules is done in an army school and they are trained before being sent to the higher reaches. Some in the Army call these mules the unsung heroes of the Army. Special food is given to these mules so that they stay healthy and can easily carry out the given tasks. These supplies of around 5 months are carried by these mules to these forward posts.

And the locals of the place are thankful to the soldiers for helping them with mostly every need of theirs.

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have inputs that Pakistan has shifted terrorist launch pads near the Line of Control (LoC) to push as many terrorists as possible into the Indian territory before the advent of the winter season. September and October have always been the peak months for the terrorists to cross over to the Kashmir region from across the border.

After the first snowfall, these mountains are fully covered with snow, making it difficult for the terrorists to cross over. And that's why before winter, Pakistan attempts to send across as many terrorists as possible.

The security forces have received input that Pakistan has shifted these terror launch pads from the earlier locations. These launch pads were at least four-five kilometres away from the LoC and now they have been shifted to half a kilometre distance from the LoC.

According to sources in security forces, these camps are perilously close to the Indian areas of Gurez, Neelam Valley, Keel, Tangdhar, Uri, Chakoti, Gulmarg, Poonch, Rajori, Sunderbani, and Nowshera sector.

The Indian army has been put on high alert after receiving these inputs. The surveillance on the LoC has been increased. Indian army is carrying out day and night patrolling whilst keeping an eye on any incursions using the latest gadgetry like drones, night vigil cameras, PTZ and thermal imaging cameras.

''We have been provided with the best and latest arms and ammunition. Also the new gadgetry due to which we are able to face any difficulty like dealing with terrorists or natural calamities. The new technology has helped us with keeping an eye on the enemy 24/7 and making sure that we don't allow anyone to cross our side. And by our vigil, we make sure the infiltrators don't get a chance to sneak in. We want to tell the citizens of our country that till the time we are securing these borders, they need not be afraid of anything," said Manoj Kumar, Naib Subedar, Indian Army.

According to information received from sources in intelligence agencies, Pakistan has shifted the active training camps in the areas of Balakot, Gadi Habibullah, Chelabandi, Shawnala, Dulai, Sansa, Kotli, Gulpur, Fagosh, and Dubli near the LoC.

Jammu and Kashmir Police DG, Dilbagh Singh had earlier said that most of the infiltration bids by terrorists from across the border have been foiled. But there have been a couple of successful bids as well. He also said that the terrorists are now sending weapons and drugs to Jammu and Kashmir with the help of drones.

In the last two weeks, there have been several infiltration bid attempts by terrorists from across the border. Around eight terrorists were gunned down in these attempts at various locations near LoC and the international border.

Reports also suggest that hundreds of rifles, pistols, and other arms and ammunition were sent from across the border with the help of drones. Security forces have recovered more than 200 pistols in the valley, which were being used for civilian killings by the terror groups.

Irfan Pathan has said that David Warner's unacceptable captaincy was one of the fundamental reasons behind the Sunrisers Hyderabad's helpless run in IPL 2021.

Sunrisers Hyderabad gave over control to Kane Williamson after enduring losses in five of their six matches under David Warner's captaincy. Notwithstanding, the move didn't yield prompt profits as the Orange Army was given a 55-run drubbing to the Rajasthan Royals.

During a conversation on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan expressed shock at Sunrises Hyderabad's lifeless shows in IPL 2021 and called attention to that David Warner's captaincy and batting are to be accused generally.

"They surprised us. They were a top-four team for me. SRH's biggest problem was David Warner's captaincy, the way he was managing the team, and the way he was batting. He was batting very cautiously," he said.

"When Kane Williamson was made the captain later, it means franchise was not happy with him, the way he was making the decisions," he added.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad executives expressed they eased David Warner of his obligations as they needed to go with an overseas all-rounder. With Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson in great structure, they didn't have some other alternative yet to avoid Warner with regards to their playing XI and accordingly change the skipper also.

While featuring the absence of involvement with the Sunrisers Hyderabad middle order, Irfan Pathan scrutinized the choice of not playing Kedar Jadhav in the underlying phases of the league.

Do you know the canine team of the Indian Army is the first responder in every anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir? The success of these operations mostly depends on the highly trained members of the Indian Army's dog squad.

The security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are using high-tech equipment like drones and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras in anti-terror operations. And now the dogs equipped with GoPro cameras and walkie-talkies used for giving commands to them during operations. This has proven to be one of the most effective and safest ways to carry out an operation.

The dogs from the unit are first sent to detect the location of the hiding terrorists and the arms and ammunition they are carrying. The feed from cameras fitted on these dogs is monitored from a control room. These dogs are trained to enter the location of the hiding terrorists without getting noticed by them. They are also trained not to bark during these operations.

If these dogs are noticed by the hiding terrorists and are attacked by them, the dogs respond with a counter-attack. The handler of the dog always keeps a sharp vigil on the situation.

''Our dogs are doing wonderful service for the Army as well as the civil population in city areas. They are being used extensively for explosive detection in Road Opening Party (ROP) duties, for sanitising any VIP or vulnerable area. They are actively used as the first responders in the operations also,'' said Abhay Khokhar, Lt Col, Dog Squad, Indian Army.

The Indian Army has various breeds of dogs in its units across India. These include labradors, german shepherds, Belgian malinois and great mountain swiss dogs. Among the Indian breeds, the mudhol hound is part of the units as well. These dogs are used for various purposes like guard duty, patrolling, sniffing explosives including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), mine detection, sniffing contraband items, including drugs, and attacking targets.

''We have eight major specialities of army dogs in the Indian Army, they are used for explosive and mine detection, tracking, search and rescue operations, avalanche rescue missions and other situations as per requirements. We train dogs as per the requirements of the Indian Army. Majorly, we have labradors, german shepherds, and recently introduced Belgian shepherds. Apart from these international breeds, we have tried certain Indian breeds also like Mudhol Hounds. We have trained them for various tasks, and they have been deployed in the Indian Army and are doing well,'' added Lt Col Abhay Khokhar.

Every Indian Army dog has a handler to train and guide them daily. The main training starts at the Remount and Veterinary Corps Centre and College in Meerut. These dogs are trained for over nine months and later for three months on the ground. The Army keeps these dogs for around seven-eight years depending on their agility. These dogs are provided special food and nutrition to keep them healthy and active.

"All these dogs are trained at the RVC Centre and College at Meerut where we have a proper facility for training. After training, these dogs are inducted into dog units which are mostly in the field. We keep training them as per requirements in the operational areas. They are given a balanced diet comprising rice, milk, meat vegetables, dog biscuits and other supplements,'' said Lt Col Khokhar.

The Indian Army has more than 27 dog units across the country. Around 24 dogs are a part of one unit. Some dogs are born in the RVC Centre and some of them are brought from outside. The Indian Army chooses the best ones and trains them after checking if they are suited for the environment.

''There are many things that we look for in an Army Dog. We see whether the dog is trainable and suited for the environment they are to be placed in. Whether they are fit for Indian weather, summer, and winters. We keep all this in mind and then select a breed and give them respective tasks. Every breed has its pros and cons. We select the breeds keeping in mind the task for them. For protection work, for guard duties, and assault duties, we prefer Belgian shepherds and german shepherds. For sniffing purposes, we use labradors. We are using mudhol hounds, cocker spaniel, and many other Indian breeds,'' he added.

The Indian Army even has special awards for dogs for their bravery. From the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card, Vice Chief of Staff Commendation Card and GOC in Chief Commendation Card, these dogs are awarded for their performance during various operations.

The Indian Army recently lost a dog named Axel in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Axel was shot dead by terrorists in North Kashmir's Baramulla district. Two-year-old Axel was given a gallantry award by the Government of India on Independence Day.

People living close to the Line of Control in India's North Kashmir region had witnessed the most horrifying cross-border shelling and ceasefire violations. Hundreds of people have been killed in the last one decade and many injured and left handicapped. A lot of people in these regions lost their limbs in the shelling and ceasefire violations. It was only after the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in February 2021 that these people started living a normal life. To help people living in these regions, the Indian Army has started a camp in remote areas of North Kashmir's Kupwara district to help people who require an artificial limb, wheelchair or a hearing aid. ''Indian Army in coordination with Spark Minda Foundation is organising a six-day artificial limb fitment camp in Kupwara. The camp is being conducted from August 22nd to 27th, with an aim to help those needy locals not having the financial means to get an artificial limb, wheelchair & hearing aid. Photo credits: Idrees Lone There are some victims of ceasefire violations as well who are being helped with proper medical care. Artificial limbs, wheelchairs, hearing aids, auxiliary crutches and hand sticks will be given to the needy during the camp. Till now, 82 patients have been given medical care and 300 more will be benefiting from this camp in the coming days," said Brigadier Vinod Singh Negi of the Indian Army. The locals living in remote villages of this areas are extremely grateful to the Indian Army for holding the camp for them. Many victims of the ceasefire violations are being helped in the camp. ''Bashir Ahmad had lost his leg years ago in ceasefire violation, and today he was given an artificial limb by the Indian Army. Another man Yousuf Khan, who lost his hearing during shelling in the area, has been given a hearing aid. Many people who were victims of the ceasefire violations were provided medical help by the Indian Army,'' said Habib Ullah, Sarpanch of Machhil. A huge number of people came to the camp from adjoining areas also and expressed gratitude to the army for extending a helping hand to the underprivileged and organising the camp at such a large scale. Indian Army sniffer dog Axel, who sacrificed himself during an anti-terror operation in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir last month, will be honoured with ‘Mention-in-Despatches’ in this year's gallantry awards.

Indian Army sniffer dog Axel, who sacrificed himself during an anti-terror operation in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir last month, will be honoured with ‘Mention-in-Despatches’ in this year's gallantry awards. The announcement was made ahead of India's 76th Independence Day. Axel is amongst the list of 42 ‘Mention-in-Despatches’ that recognises distinguished and meritorious service. Mention-in-Despatches lies above other appreciation awards such as the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and Vice Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card that the canines usually receive. In a first, Indian Army officers undertook a course in Tibetology "to gain comprehensive knowledge and strengthen their connect" with the Tibetan community in the border areas, the Indian Defence Ministry has announced. The 42 day-long course was attended by Indian Army officers, JCO etc at the Central Institute of Himalayan and Cultural Studies, Dahung, Arunachal Pradesh. More such courses on Tibetology are being planned in the future.

A statement by Lt Col A S Walia, Press Officer for Defence, Tezpur said, "officers undertook research on subjects such as Tibetan Buddhism, People of Tibet, Sinicization of Tibet and Political system in Tibet before and after 1950". Tibet after 1950 saw dramatic political changes including an invasion by China that led to the Dalai Lama, the top Tibetan spiritual Guru, leaving the region in 1959. Since then, Tibet has seen widespread influx of Han Chinese and sinicization or increased Chinese influence.

China, after much delay did accept that it lost 4 of its soldiers, a number that remains doubtful given Beijing's lackluster track record on transparency.

Other key features of the course included guest lectures by Guru Tulku Rinpoche, Abbot of Bomdila Monastery and Tibet expert Claude Arpi. In March 2022, Guru Tulku Rinpoche was honored with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of India for Spiritualism.
