India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is set to travel to Beijing for the 25th round of India-China Special Representative talks on the long-running boundary dispute.

Doval and his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, are expected to hold crucial discussions on the 3,488-kilometre India-China border dispute. The Special Representative mechanism was established in 2003 to address the complex boundary question between the two countries.

The latest round carries added significance as it comes ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s expected visit to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit. The outcome of the Doval-Wang talks could help shape the diplomatic atmosphere surrounding the high-profile visit.

India has repeatedly stressed that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for the broader development of bilateral relations with China.

The meeting is also significant because it is the first Special Representatives dialogue in roughly a year. The previous round was held in New Delhi in August 2025, when both sides reaffirmed the importance of the 2005 agreement as a reference point for resolving the boundary issue.

"The focus of the talks is on carrying forward the disengagement process," a source said.&nbsp;

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on February 11 told Parliament that India and China agreed on disengagement in the North and South banks of Pangong lake that binds both nations to "cease" forward deployment of troops in a "phased, coordinated and verifiable" manner.

According to the agreement, China will pull back its troops east of Finger 8 areas in the northern bank of Pangong lake, while Indian troops will be permanently based at Dhan Singh Thapa Post near Finger 3 in the region, Singh said.&nbsp;

The defence minister said that similar action would be taken on the south bank of the lake too.&nbsp;

The secretary of state's comments came after the Quad nations: India, Japan, Australia and the US met on Tuesday in Tokyo where they supported a rules-based Indo-Pacific region, sending an indirect message to China over its expansionist attempts.&nbsp;

"I was with my foreign minister counterparts from India, Australia, and Japan… four big democracies, four powerful economies, four nations, each of whom has real risk associated with the threats attempting to be imposed by the Chinese Communist Party. And they see it in their home countries too," Pompeo said on The Guy Benson Show, as quoted by The Indian Express.&nbsp;

"But they’ve all seen it, whether it’s the Indians, who are actually having a physical confrontation with the Chinese up in the Himalayas in the northeastern part of India, the Chinese have now begun to amass huge forces against India in the north."

He also said the Quad members are working on a set of policies to resist the threats each of these nations face from Beijing.&nbsp;

"(India) absolutely need the United States to be their ally and partner in this fight," he added.

Pompeo said the the "tide has turned" and under Trump's leadership a coalition is established that "will push back against the threat and maintain good order, the rule of law, and the basic civic decency that comes from democracies controlling the world and not authoritarian regimes".

Meanwhile, Beijing on Wednesday said it has been "honouring" agreements signed with New Delhi, adding it is committed to "peace and stability" in the border region.&nbsp;

Talks at multiple levels are being held despite the months-long border crisis in Ladakh that was escalated after shots were fired in the region on Monday evening, the first in about 45 years.&nbsp;

India's Special frontier force's (SFF) soldier Nyima Tenzin was cremated with full public honours in Ladakh on Monday. He was a member of the Tibetan refugee community which came out in full force in Ladakh to pay tributes to him.

With body wrapped in Indian and Tibetan flags, Tenzin was cremated as the atmosphere reverberated with slogans like "Bharat Mata Ki Jai", "We salute Indian army". The Indian National anthem was also sung along with and the anthem of Tibetan Government in Exile which is considered as the Tibetan National Anthem written in 1950.

Ruling BJP party's National General Secretary was also present. He tweeted saying, he is was "a Tibetan who laid down his life protecting our borders in Ladakh" but later deleted it.

His presence at the funeral can be read as New Delhi's departure from its traditional stand.&nbsp;India has traditionally recognised the Tibetan autonomous region as a part of China.&nbsp;As the world rethinks its ties with China, India is already hinting at a blueprint.

The liberation of Tibet 2020 has claimed its first martyr, a 51-year-old Company Leader, Nyima Tenzin, of the Special Frontier Force (SFF). Founded in 1962, the SSF is a special commando group of Tibetans in exile, integrated with, and working alongside the Indian Army.&nbsp;

Tenzin, a father of three, died, some reports say, after stepping on a Chinese landmine planted under the snow, not now, but back in 1962. Other reports state he was shot in the neck by the Chinese. His funeral, with full military honours, will take place today on September 7. His body was draped in both the Indian flag and the flag of free Tibet.

This death, and the outflanking of the entire LAC issue it symbolises, is the new strategic landscape in Ladakh.&nbsp;

India has revamped its military posture. The Rubicon has been crossed politically. By going up well behind the LAC, over 4 km deep, capturing the territory and features in between, India has turned the tables. The Chinese now have to contend with a proactive India that has abandoned its defensive game.&nbsp;

India now controls as many as 39 of the high points along with the Pangong Tso. These give India oversight and military advantages all along the Pangong Tso, from South to North. There is a line of vision in other strategic directions as well. &nbsp;

These heights, connected valleys, roads, and passes, have not been captured in a token sense, but for the purposes of exerting pressure on the ongoing negotiations. They are designed to affect military domination of the theatre of confrontation and are to be seen as a signature to a new policy.&nbsp;

The initial capture of the heights began on August 29-30, after a Chinese attempt to unilaterally alter the status quo on the South Bank of the Pangong Tso. It was reinforced with heavily armoured vehicles, tanks and missiles, some of it in place within hours.&nbsp;

These took up position in the valley overlooking both Pangong Tso and Chushul.&nbsp;

This rapid deployment has taken away the initiative from the PLA and the Chinese leadership in the CCP back in Beijing. Four months after the latest Chinese intrusions began in May, the ground situation has been radically altered.&nbsp;

All Chinese positions after the intrusions, and even in the massed areas behind the front lines have been rendered vulnerable. In fact, the recapture of territory lost in 1962 has begun.&nbsp;

India is no longer acting for a restoration of the status quo as it was in April 2020. There will be no Indian pullback, no giving back of captured territory. The changed scenario has put the focus on the reclamation of over 1,000 sq.km in Ladakh encroached upon since the late 1950s.&nbsp;

By using the SSF as the spearhead, India is gaining from its legendary ferocity, prowess, its considerable knowledge of the terrain, and ability to fight at elevated heights in extreme conditions.&nbsp;

Underlining the new thrust which has cut through the stalled talks, is a bid to free Tibet and undo a historical wrong from the 1950s.&nbsp; 
India has always had a peaceful Indo-Tibetan border for centuries. And the disruption, destruction, murder and humiliation wrought by Chairman Mao’s China will have to be obliterated if India is to see peace along its northern borders once more.

India has begun a process that apparently has the full diplomatic backing of the United States. This, given the bellicose stand taken by President Xi Jinping with multiple countries simultaneously, in the region, and the world. Both The NATO allies and the EU are now clear they will have to resist Chinese imperialism.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping has unleashed a new wave of repression in Tibet as China fears a groundswell of rebellion.&nbsp; 
India will have to free the occupied territories in Siachen, Akshai Chin and Ladakh first. And this is the face of hysterical threats from the Chinese.&nbsp;

But India’s priorities have changed beyond going back and forth on an undefined LAC. China is fond of citing obscure historical and cultural precedents, even as it refuses to honour treaties or recognise any of the older or colonial-era protocols.&nbsp;

India has now moved on. It has decided not to engage with ever-changing Chinese maps of the LAC region, all 4,000 km or so of it.&nbsp;

The Chinese, on their part, think the LAC is only 2,500 km. long, because they claim Arunachal Pradesh as theirs, calling it South Tibet.&nbsp;

China has also advanced unsustainable claims in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the Sikkim/Bhutan areas. These have become ever more aggressive over the years and made a mockery of negotiations at all levels of interaction. In addition, China is playing a predatory role in PoK, Gilgit-Baltistan directly, and via Pakistan as well.&nbsp;

India has no choice but to outflank existing Chinese strategies and tactics. To place China on the mat the best course is to put Tibet, captured by Red China as recently as the 1950s, back into contention.&nbsp;

This will no doubt see India foraying across the LAC regularly, and at various points along with it, to create military advantages and pursue the broader objective. Every excursion will hopefully result in a gain of territory that will not be returned to China.

All this cannot happen without a fight or perhaps many skirmishes to come. But China is already aware, judging by its agitation at its Defence Minister level, that it is a battle ignited out on the fringes of its empire that it will find hard to sustain and win. The hostile Tibetans, armed and trained by India and its allies, will do everything to help themselves.&nbsp;

It could turn into a debacle for China going forward, no less humiliating than the defeat of the USSR in Afghanistan. Certainly, the dragon is not likely to see a day’s rest from now onwards.

Indian Army chief Gen MM Naravane said on Friday that New Delhi is engaging with Beijing at the diplomatic and military level to resolve the border crisis in Ladakh.

Naravane is currently in Ladakh on a two-day visit to review Indian forces operational preparedness.&nbsp;

"Situation has been little tensed for the last two to three months. We have been continuously engaging with China both at the military and diplomatic level. These engagements are ongoing and will continue in the future as well. We are very sure that through this medium of talks, whatever differences we have, will be resolved and we will ensure that status quo is not changed and we are able to safeguard our interests," said Naravane, as quoted by news agency ANI.&nbsp;

He also said that there has been some deployment of troops for safeguarding Indian's security and safety.&nbsp;

"Keeping in view of the situation, we had undertaken some precautionary deployment for our own safety and security. These deployments we undertook along the LAC (Line of Actual Control) so that our security and integrity remains safeguarded," he said.&nbsp;

He also said the morale of Indian forces is high and "they are ready to deal with all challenges.&nbsp;

The disengagement has begun according to an agreement between the Corps Commander's of the two sides, sources told news agency PTI.

However, they said&nbsp;Chinese heavy-armoured vehicles are still present in the Galwan river depth area.

Indian Army is monitoring the situation with caution, sources further added.&nbsp;

China's People Liberation Army (PLA) was also seen removing tents and structures at Patrolling Point&nbsp;14 and moving out vehicles from the area.&nbsp;

A similar movement of vehicles was seen at Gogra Hot Spring area too, the sources said.

The tensions between both the Asian giants escalated following a violent face-off on June 15, when 20 personnel of the Indian Army were martyred in the Galwan Valley. The Chinese side also suffered casualties, but it didn't provide the details of it.&nbsp;

In the last few weeks, a series of diplomatic and military-level talks are being taking place between both sides to de-escalate the situation at the border.&nbsp;
