Scientists have found tantalising clues of a global flood that wiped out advanced civilisations 20,000 years ago. They carried out excavations at Tell Fara in Iraq, where settlements dating back more than 5,000 years were uncovered in the 1930s. At the time, this place revealed how early civilisations lived. However, upon further digging up the area, researchers came across a thick layer of yellow clay and sand, or an 'inundation layer' under the settlement, which is indicative of a flood that struck thousands of years before a new civilisation made it its home. They say that such deposits typically settle on already-inhabited ground, which proves that an older civilisation was buried in the massive floods. Archaeologists have unearthed a Jurassic-era creature in the Jaisalmer area of Rajasthan, which resembles a crocodile. The fossil has been named a phytosaur, and according to researchers, it could be more than 200 million years old. The creature that lived partly on land and in water measures between 1.5 to 2 metres, and is possibly the ancestor of modern-day crocodiles. Senior hydrogeologist Dr Narayandas Inkhiya and his team made the fascinating discovery in the western Indian state, and believe more such historical treasures could be hidden in the desert. Inkhiya believes the region can be developed into an important spot for fossil tourism. A discovery in Abu Dhabi could change the belief about how far Christianity likely spread. Researchers have found a 1,400-year-old plaque depicting a cross with a stepped pyramid that supposedly represents Golgotha, the site of Jesus's crucifixion. The artefact was unearthed on the Sir Bani Yas Island, where the researchers had dug up the ruins of a church and monastery. According to them, this finding suggests that a Christian community was thriving in the region during the seventh and eighth centuries, a time period when the religion was only believed to have existed in the Levant, Mesopotamia and parts of Europe. However, the latest finding changes that perception. Experts say that it is proof that Christianity was not only present but thriving in the southeastern Arabian Gulf island. Maria Gajewska, lead archaeologist at the site, said, "Every element of the cross incorporates regional motifs. It tells us that Christianity in this region was not only present but flourished." Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism, calls it a historically significant discovery which proves that the UAE had "values of coexistence and cultural openness", where several religions existed side by side peacefully. The cross that led to this is about 10.6 inches long, 6.7 inches wide, and roughly 0.8 inches thick. The plaque also has the fingerprint of its maker on the back. Archaeologists say that people used it to pray to the Lord by hanging it on a wall. Other evidence, such as the courtyard, pottery, glass artefacts and a small sea-green bottle unearthed at the site, hints at who lived there. According to the archaeologists, monks probably resided in the courtyard buildings and held spiritual retreats in the area. They are believed to have lived a good life, and the clues lie in limestone and coral structures and water cisterns. Scientists in California have found one of the earliest proofs that the Vedic culture was not limited to India. The evidence lies in music, as a study has pointed out that a hymn written on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean 3,000 years ago shares striking similarities with the Rig Veda, one of the oldest Indian sacred texts. Dan C. Baciu, of the University of California, Santa Barbara, published his comparative analysis on the Preprints.org server. He says that the Hymn to Nikkal, written in Ugarit and the Rig Veda verses shared the same cadence, or repeated melodic or rhythmic units. The researcher used computer-assisted rhythm and melody mapping to draw parallels between the two bodies of work. He wrote in his study that one in five Rig Veda verses ends with the same cadence as the Hymn to Nikkal. What makes it intriguing is that, according to him, the odds of this occurring by accident are less than one in a million. In the one written in the Mediterranean, there are two cadences - one simple and heartbeat-like, and one more intricate. Baciu says that both models are also present in the Rig Veda verses, "with one most frequently ending verses and the other linked closely to the Triṣṭubh meter," according to Baciu. The Bible could have been written by multiple people, according to an analysis of the Old Testament. Using artificial intelligence, scientists have discovered various "fingerprints" in the Old Testament text, which suggests that more than one person contributed to it. The ancient religious text is full of stories and parables that are believed to have been written by Moses. Christians and Jews believe that the first five books of the Old Testament, including the most famous stories of Noah's flood and the Ark of the Covenant, were penned by Moses. However, scientists have now used AI to reveal that it does not seem likely that only one person wrote them. An analysis revealed different writing styles and a distinct vocabulary throughout the books. Who wrote the Bible? AI uncovers 'fingerprints' that thwart a common belief

Archaeologists have discovered Harappan remains in Jaisalmer near the Pakistan border. This is the first time that artefacts from the 4,500-year-old civilisation have been found in the Thar desert. The items were dug up in Ratadia Ri Deri, and the discovery proves that the Harappa civilisation was not limited to areas previously thought of, and expanded its geographical footprint to the deserts of Rajasthan. The team comprised a researcher from the Department of History and Indian Culture at Rajasthan University, a historian, professors and local contributors. It has submitted its findings to for publication in the Indian Journal of Science and has confirmed that the findings belong to the Harappa civilisation. The artefacts uncovered include different types of handmade pottery, bangles, bricks, stone mills, a furnace and remains of ancient walls. The team unearthed red and wheat-coloured pottery, bowls, pitchers, cups, and perforated jars at the site. There was also handmade pottery decorated with geometric patterns. One of the artefacts, eight to 10 centimetre-long blades, was made using chert stone, believed to have been sourced from Rohri in present-day Pakistan. Earlier this year, the site in Ratadia Ri Deri threw up some artefacts that appeared to be from the Harappa civilisation. Days before the Russian earthquake, ominous signs and symbols from over 1,000 years ago appeared on a Hawaii beach. They had not been seen for a decade, and native Hawaiians say their reemergence from the sea is a sign of things to come. According to them, the series of 26 petroglyphs, dating back to between 1000 and 1400 AD, is an ancient warning. The symbols became visible around July 23 when the tide along the shoreline of Pōkaʻī Bay receded. The signs show human-like stick figures, which are believed to be simple depictions of events that occurred thousands of years ago. But Native Hawaiians say they are a warning from their ancestors about disasters caused by climate change. Mail Online quoted Native Hawaiian cultural practitioner Glen Kila as saying, "It's telling the community that the ocean is rising." The 26 carvings made on rock surfaces appeared on the island of Oahu. This is the first time since 2016 that all of them are fully visible. The ancient warning signs showed up seven days before a massive earthquake struck Russia. It triggered a tsunami warning for Hawaii, as well. Scientists are still not clear about what these symbols mean. They could be linked to certain historical and spiritual events. The date of creation is also not fully known. Kila says the petroglyphs were likely created by an early Polynesian settlement in Waianae over 1,000 years ago. However, Laura Gilda, an archaeologist, thinks they are only 600 years old. Meanwhile, people can't help but link the reappearance of these figures with the earthquake that struck the Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday (30 July). The tremors shook the Pacific and sent tsunami waves to Japan, Hawaii and the Russian coast. Meanwhile, Native Hawaiians believe this could be a warning sign that more natural disasters are coming.

Twenty-six ancient symbols along the shoreline of Pōkaʻī Bay on the island of Oahu have reappeared after nearly 10 years. Native Hawaiians believe they are a warning sign from their ancestors about natural disasters due to rising oceans.

Leonardo da Vinci was not just a painter. He was also a sculptor, an architect, and even an engineer and a scientist. In fact, one of his scientific sketches hides the secret to better drones. Da Vinci made drawings of machines that didn't exist at the time and were only invented years later. His innovative ideas included vehicles that could fly, go underwater and some amazing weapons. A team of scientists has uncovered that they are not merely sketches but offer a lot more for today's modern machines. IFLScience reported that a new paper by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University states that a sketch of a flying machine made by da Vinci in the 15th century holds clues to creating quieter drones that are more efficient. It features an aerial singular corkscrew propeller, which needed to be spun by men at its base, resulting in it taking off. The authors of the study wrote, “Leonardo da Vinci’s aerial screw, conceived in the 15th century, represents one of the earliest conceptualisations of lift-generating rotary flight." The researchers say that one of the reasons drones are now widely used in populated areas is the noise they make. PhD student Suryansh Prakhar, one of the authors of the paper, told the publication, “While food and parcel delivery using drones is growing, the aeroacoustic noise remains one of the issues preventing it." This is because of "the screw’s large wetted area and lower rotational speed", they added. However, da Vinci's design has not been found optimal when it comes to real-world performance. The paper authors state that the design highlights "the potential benefits of unconventional rotor geometries for noise-sensitive applications." A researcher who has spent eight years studying an inscription found at Serabit el-Khadim in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula has claimed that the words could mean "zot m'Moshe," Hebrew for "This is from Moses." This particular place is an ancient Egyptian mine, and if it does mean what Bar-Ron, the expert, says it does, it could prove that the Book of Exodus is true and that Moses was a real person. This inscription is part of a collection of over two dozen Proto-Sinaitic texts that were seen for the first time in the early 1900s. Scientists believe that these writings were etched by Semitic-speaking workers in the late 12th Dynasty, around 1800 BC. Bar-Ron studied high-resolution images and 3D scans of the texts, Mail Online reported. His analysis led him to conclude that they are linked to a figure named Moses, either by someone who dedicated it to him or could have been etched by Moses himself. He is a prominent figure in the Bible. According to the religious text, Moses is the one whom God gave the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. He says that his findings hint at the presence of religious tensions in the region years ago. One of the examples is the reference to "El," a deity that finds mention in early Israelite worship. There are also signs of the Egyptian goddess Hathor's name being defaced. He said, "You're absolutely correct, I read this as well, it is not imagined!" However, other experts do not agree with Bar-Ron and his interpretation of the inscription. They argue that even though Proto-Sinaitic is the earliest known alphabet, its characters are extremely hard to decipher. One of them has warned that such decoding of inscriptions can twist facts and present a wrong picture of history. Dr Thomas Schneider, Egyptologist and professor at the University of British Columbia, says the Moses claims are "unproven and misleading." The ancient turquoise mines carry inscriptions dating to the reign of Pharaoh Amenemhat III. Bar-Ron analysed 22 of them. Some experts believe that Pharaoh Amenemhat III is the pharaoh mentioned in the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible. The book is the first part of the tale about the origin myth of the Israelites, according to which they stopped being slaves in Biblical Egypt with the help of the deity Yahweh.
