Tesla announces plans to halve production costs on Investor Day 2023 | World Business Watch

<p>On the company's investor day on Wednesday (March 1), engineers from Tesla disclosed their plans to reduce assembly costs in future car generations by 50 per cent.</p>

<p>In addition to Elon Musk, the company's public face, the presentation included more than a dozen other Tesla officials, including Tom Zhu, the new global production leader.</p>

<p>The executives covered a wide range of topics throughout the presentation, including the company's creativity in managing its operations from manufacture to service, as well as a white paper strategy for the world to adopt sustainable energy.</p>

<p>Zach Kirkhorn, the company's chief financial officer, emphasised their commitment to reducing production costs and announced that Tesla's next-generation platform would comprise many vehicles produced in standardised factories.</p>

<p>Tesla's shares dropped more than five&nbsp;per cent in after-hours trading as a result of Musk disappointing investors by failing to reveal the release date of a highly anticipated inexpensive small electric vehicle.</p>

<p>Musk was anticipated to present a strategy for creating a more accessible electric vehicle (EV) that would increase consumer interest in his brand and fend off rivals.</p>

<h2><strong>Tesla vs Market</strong></h2>

<p>Capturing the mass market is critical to Tesla’s annual production goal, which is more than the combined production of two of the world's largest volume vehicle makers — Germany's Volkswagen and Japan's Toyota.</p>

<p>It would also represent a sales volume for Tesla alone of about a quarter of last year's total global car sales. Musk said the key to driving Tesla's sales volume would be bringing prices down for consumers, adding that tesla's discounts offered this year had stoked demand.</p>

<p>The most valuable automaker is Tesla, but its price has fluctuated significantly. Shares have recovered more than 60 per cent this year but are still down almost 50 per cent from their peak in November 2021.</p>

<p>Tesla could only need 10 models, according to Musk, which would result in 2 million annual sales for each model line at the desired manufacturing rate.</p>

<p>In terms of making profitable EVs, Tesla already has an advantage over its competitors.</p>

Angry Twitter employee says 'hard work was a mistake' after fresh round of jobs cuts

Now, experts says that the true origin of pandemic may not be known for many years. China has consistently denied a lab leak in Wuhan. Calling the allegations defamatory the Communist party of China has warned Elon Musk. China is warning Twitter CEO Elon Musk against sharing posts that promote the lab leak theory of the coronavirus.

<p>Shareholders of Tesla have sued CEO Elon Musk and the electric car-making company over “false and misleading” claims about the safety of their electric vehicles' Autopilot and Full Self-Driving technologies.</p>

<p>In a class action suit filed in San Francisco federal court on Monday, the shareholders have alleged that the company lied to them over four years by concealing how its technologies – suspected as a possible cause of multiple fatal crashes – “created a serious risk of accident and injury”.</p>

<p>They recalled when Tesla’s share price fell several times after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began probing the technologies, and reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating Musk's Autopilot claims.</p>

<p>“As a result of defendants’ wrongful acts and omissions, and the precipitous decline in the market value of the company’s common stock, plaintiff and other class members have suffered significant losses and damages,” the complaint said.</p>

<p>On Monday, Tesla's share price rose up by $10.75 at the closing, or 5.5 per cent at $207.63, but the stock has lost about half its value since peaking in November 2021.</p>

Musk has deemed the move to drop the comic strip "racist" The Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post and USA Today were among newspapers that canceled the cartoon "Dilbert" after its creator Scott Adams said Black Americans were a hate group and posted racist comments on his YouTube channel on Wednesday. Musk, who is chief executive of social media giant Twitter, said in reply to some tweets that the media had long been racist against non-white people but are now "racist against whites & Asians." "Maybe they can try not being racist," Musk tweeted. For a *very* long time, US media was racist against non-white people, now they’re racist against whites & Asians. Same thing happened with elite colleges & high schools in America. Now, critics have raised deep concerns about the way the social media giant has chosen to structure its new offering. Experts say that the new service will create a "digital caste system" of haves and have-nots. On Sunday, Meta announced that it would be launching a paid subscription service, which will cost $11.99 for the web or $14.99 for mobile. Now, critics have raised deep concerns about the way the social media giant has chosen to structure its new offering. Experts say that the new service will create a "digital caste system" of haves and have-nots. The paid service will make available to its subscribers a verification badge, extra protection against impersonation, direct access to customer support and added visibility. Users too have ridiculed the service, trolling Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg with trolls and memes. "Safety and security features must NOT be up for sale," says online safety expert Kavya Pearlman. She claims that it would create a "digital caste system" of haves and have-nots. Edward Snowden lashes out at Elon Musk for blocking his wife's Twitter account

<p>Elon Musk's SpaceX is racing to make wi-fi available in airplanes with a rollout of Starlink Aviation. The constellation of thousands of Starlink satellites already in orbit around the Earth will be used to make internet available, for now, in private jets. To facilitate this, Starlink Aviation is offering customers a USD 150,000 airplane antenna. Charges for the antenna would be one-time. On top of that the customers will have to shell out USD 12,500 to 25,000 per month for the internet service in their private jet.</p>

<p>These customers, likely millionaires and billionaires, would be able to use internet with speeds of up to 350 Mbps. This is enough for video conferences and even gaming.</p>

<p>Booking for such a connection can be made now by paying USD 5000. Starlink Aviation will begin delivering terminals in mid-2023.</p>

Elon Musk-led SpaceX unveils Starlink internet for private jets

Microblogging site Twitter has officially announced that it will start charging its users to authenticate and secure their account via text messages as a two-factor authentication (2FA) method.

Twitter to charge users for SMS two-factor authentication

<p>Twitter has removed a major security feature for its non-Blue subscribers. The company said it will allow only paid subscribers to use text messages as a two-factor authentication (2FA) method to secure their accounts. "After 20 March 2023, we will no longer permit non-Twitter Blue subscribers to use text messages as a 2FA method," Twitter said in a blogpost Friday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In order to log in with 2FA, one must also provide a code or security key in addition to their password. By taking this extra step, one can ensure that only they have access to their account. Twitter provides three 2FA options, which include a security key, an authentication app, and a text message.</p>

<p>While saying that the company "continues to be committed to keeping people safe and secure" unfortunately it has seen "phone-number based 2FA be used - and abused - by bad actors."&nbsp; Therefore, to put a stop to it, the company decided that it will no longer allow accounts to enrol in the text message/SMS method of 2FA unless they are Twitter Blue subscribers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The availability of text message 2FA for Twitter Blue may vary by country and carrier," it added.&nbsp; It further added that after 20 March, Twitter will no longer permit non-Twitter Blue subscribers to use text messages as a 2FA method.&nbsp;"At that time, accounts with text message 2FA still enabled will have it disabled. Disabling text message 2FA does not automatically disassociate your phone number from your Twitter account," the blogpost said.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What you need to do before 19 March?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Twitter is now sending notifications to its users asking them to disable the&nbsp;text message 2FA from their accounts if they don't want to lose access to their accounts.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Only Twitter Blue subscribers can use the text message two-factor authentication method. It will just take a few minutes to remove it. You can still use authentication app or security key methods," the company said in its notification.&nbsp; It added that to avoid losing access to Twitter, remove text message two-factor authentication&nbsp;by March 19, 2023.&nbsp;</p>

Twitter has removed a major security feature for its non-Blue subscribers. The company said it will allow only paid subscribers to use text messages as a two-factor authentication (2FA) method to secure their accounts. "After 20 March 2023, we will no longer permit non-Twitter Blue subscribers to use text messages as a 2FA method," Twitter said in a blogpost Friday. In order to log in with 2FA, one must also provide a code or security key in addition to their password. By taking this extra step, one can ensure that only they have access to their account. Twitter provides three 2FA options, which include a security key, an authentication app, and a text message. Therefore, to put a stop to it, the company decided that it will no longer allow accounts to enrol in the text message/SMS method of 2FA unless they are Twitter Blue subscribers. "The availability of text message 2FA for Twitter Blue may vary by country and carrier," it added. It further added that after 20 March, Twitter will no longer permit non-Twitter Blue subscribers to use text messages as a 2FA method. "At that time, accounts with text message 2FA still enabled will have it disabled. Disabling text message 2FA does not automatically disassociate your phone number from your Twitter account," the blogpost said. What you need to do before 19 March? Twitter is now sending notifications to its users asking them to disable the text message 2FA from their accounts if they don't want to lose access to their accounts.
