The State Department on Wednesday (Dec 3) announced that the United States Institute of Peace now carries a new name. Any guesses? Yes, America's Institute of Peace now carries the name of its "peacemaker" POTUS Donald Trump. The long-standing institution has now been rebranded as the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace, a move revealed just a day before the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are set to come to the White House to sign a peace agreement.
'Greatest dealmaker' in US history?
The announcement came through a short social media post that read more like a victory lap. Calling Trump "The greatest dealmaker in our nation's history," the State Department said, "This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation's history. Welcome to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. The best is yet to come." The post was paired with a photo of the institute's headquarters, where Trump's full name had been added above the building's original engraved lettering.

From dismantling USIP to naming it after himself
In February, Trump signed an executive order aimed at dismantling the institute entirely. Soon after, law enforcement removed the organisation's president from the building, and the administration fired nearly all Washington-based staff.USIP was established in 1984 during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Although it received federal funding, it operated independently and carved out a role akin to that of a think tank, bringing together scholars, diplomats, and specialists on global conflicts. Its projects ranged from research to peacebuilding initiatives in countries dealing with long-running violence.Trump’s decision to rename the institute appears to be part of a broader push to frame himself as a central figure in global peacemaking. He has often spoken about the many wars he has solved, even taking credit where it's not due.
Congo-Rwanda peace: Another feather in Trump's cap?
On Thursday, Trump is expected to attend the signing ceremony between DR Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame. The deal aims to ease tensions between the two neighbours after years of friction and conflict.

The US has renamed its Institute of Peace after President Trump, months after he tried to shut it down. The move comes as he prepares to host a peace deal between Congo and Rwanda, part of his push to cast himself as a global peacemaker.

The Trump administration has initiated a large-scale immigration crackdown in New Orleans, dubbed "Operation Catahoula Crunch," deploying federal agents to target undocumented immigrants accused of violent crimes such as home invasion, armed robbery, and sexual assault. The operation, part of a broader national campaign, comes amid criticism from local officials and advocates, who argue that sanctuary city policies are being used as justification for aggressive enforcement actions.

On Wednesday (December 3), House Democrats on the Oversight Committee made public a series of previously unseen photos and videos from the private island once owned by Jeffrey Epstein. These disturbing images provide new insights into the place that served as the hub for Epstein’s decades-long exploitation of young women and girls. Among the newly released content are images of bedrooms, bathrooms, and what looks like a dentist’s chair adorned with masks. One image also shows a landline phone with various names, Darren, Rich, Mike, Patrick, and Larry, marked on the speed dial buttons. The footage includes sweeping views of the luxurious estate on Little St. James Island, located in the US Virgin Islands, showcasing its pool, palm-lined paths, and oceanfront vistas. Another photo captures a study with a blackboard featuring words like “power,” “deception,” “plots,” and “political.” Some of the images have been redacted to protect privacy, especially removing the names of women depicted.
See the images here

Epstein files: House Democrats release unseen images from Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous private island

Social media erupted with hate, xenophobic and racist remarks. The Indian-origin businessman had been particularly targeted by his conservative White voter base. Many have called for his deportation, saying that they can't see past his brown skin, as far as terming him a foreign parasite. While some criticised the American Dream as capitalist branding, highlighting that the guy who came up with the term was supporting immigration restrictions of 1924 and believed in Anglo-Saxon superiority. But others were quick to point out that America became great because it was populated by the Germanic, Slavic, and Celtic people. One user commented, “The American Dream is seeing you deported”, another commented, “We don't need an Indian to tell us what the American dream is, you should be deported”. "Why is it White America's responsibility to supply a "Dream" to everyone else? Are Brown people incapable of having dreams themselves?"

Vivek Ramaswamy faces intense backlash after social media users criticise him for preaching the “American Dream.” Many accused him of overstepping, sparking a debate on nationality, identity, and political messaging in the US.

Elon Musk attends Trump's dinner
Days ago, Elon Musk had a dinner with Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House on Tuesday (Nov 18, 2025). The meeting was the second joint public appearance since a bitter public feud earlier this year. Elon Musk reportedly backed and financed the election campaign of Donald Trump last year and later became a key adviser in the new administration, heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and overseeing reductions in federal spending and staffing, according to a report by news agency Reuters. However, their relationship quickly soured. Musk criticised Trump’s broad tax and spending package online, calling it financially irresponsible, and announced plans to form a new political party. Trump retaliated by threatening to withdraw the federal subsidies worth billions that Musk’s companies relied on. According to analysts, the clash, combined with Musk’s increasingly far-right rhetoric, damaged Tesla’s reputation, sales and share value. Since then, the two have seldom appeared together publicly. Their last known interaction was a handshake at a memorial event for conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September.

US President Donald Trump, has been slapped with a $310 million lawsuit for a trafficking venture which is almost identical to the sex-trafficking venture of Jeffrey Epstein. The lawsuit filed on November 24, in Palm Beach County, has named Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Notably, Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence is in Palm Beach. The story has been reported by BOCA News Now.com, a hyperlocal website, and the names of the plaintiffs have been redacted for privacy reasons. The lawsuit alleges a “eight-year trafficking and exploitation venture that began in 2018 [that] has continued and escalated under the current Trump administration. It alleges that the defendant has coerced using physical intimidation, financial harm, confinement, fraud and deceit to benefit from creative works, intellectual labour and property of the plaintiff. It accuses Trump of grooming the lead plaintiff of the lawsuit since 1998, “the exact year [the] plaintiff was born.” It accuses Trump of using the Gates Foundation “cover and silencing mechanism” to continue the operation, as well as facilitating “coordinated sexual assaults. The plaintiff also alleged that her infant daughter was taken away because she filed the lawsuit, a technique which is “identical in every material respect” to Epstein’s. The uncertified copy of the lawsuit alleges that the US Department of Homeland Security was aware of the trafficking against the plaintiff but failed to intervene. The lawsuit also alleges that between 2023 and November 2025, there had been 5 different attempts to murder the lead plaintiff employing “poisoning, vehicular assaults and orchestrated physical attacks designed to appear accidental.” The plaintiffs in the case are seeking $310 million in compensatory damages, more than $134 million in attorneys’ fees, and injunctive relief that includes “immediate return of full legal and physical custody” of the lead plaintiff's daughter.

It's set to Carpenter's 2024 track ‘Juno’. Responding to the video, Carpenter made it clear she had nothing to do with it.
White House claps back
The response from the White House came fast and sharp. She added, "Anyone who would defend these sick monsters must be stupid, or is it slow?".
Copyright? Several other artists have previously slammed Trump and his administration's use of their music. US President Donald Trump ridiculed his second in command while mocking another vice presidential candidate. On Tuesday, during the 9th cabinet meeting of the second term, President Donald Trump went on some incoherent rants. He said that he wouldn't know who is more incompetent, JD Vance or Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.“I think the man’s a grossly incompetent man,” Trump said, referring to Walz, “I thought that from the day I watched JD destroy him in a debate. I was saying, ‘Who was more incompetent? But now she’s leading the field, and I think she’s leading the field in the nomination.” At the beginning of the meeting, he said that “generally speaking,” his Cabinet had many “high IQ” members. “A couple of them I’m a little concerned about,” while looking around the table.

Ana Navarro, a Nicaraguan-American political strategist and commentator, responded, saying, "having your as* kissed for hours can be a little boring." Trump was incoherent throughout the meeting; he was referring to people in third person, ‘he’ and 'she', which was hard to understand for the White House reporters.

The situation has been further complicated by a corruption scandal that has rocked Zelensky's inner circle and forced the removal last week of his top negotiator and chief of staff Andriy Yermak.

President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday sought to reinforce European support for Ukraine at a potentially pivotal moment in Kyiv's battle against the Russian invasion, meeting President Emmanuel Macron in Paris as Washington pushed a plan to end the war. Zelensky was holding talks with Macron at the Elysee, with Ukraine weighing its options over the plan championed by US President Donald Trump but which European countries fear risks caving in to Russian demands. The situation has been further complicated by a corruption scandal that has rocked Zelensky's inner circle and forced the removal last week of his top negotiator and chief of staff Andriy Yermak. Over three-and-a-half years into Russia's full-scale invasion of its neighbour, Kyiv is also under pressure on the battlefield as Russia's offensive grinds forward. US and Ukrainian negotiators held hours of what both sides called "productive" talks in Florida on Sunday, with Trump declaring on Air Force One "there's a good chance we can make a deal". "There are some tough issues that still have to be worked through," Zelensky wrote on social media, following new talks by telephone Monday with Finland President Alexander Stubb, who has warm relations with both the American and Ukrainian leaders. Zelensky described the talks in the United States as "very constructive", adding that decisions would be taken on Ukraine's "further activities" once the delegation returning from there had been debriefed. "It could be a pivotal week for diplomacy. We heard yesterday that the talks in America were difficult but productive," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas added at a meeting of EU defence ministers. 'More work to be done' - Washington put forward an initial 28-point proposal to halt the war, drafted without input from Ukraine's European allies and regarded as too close a reflection of Moscow's maximalist demands on Ukrainian territory. It would have seen Kyiv withdraw from its eastern Donetsk region and the United States de facto recognise the Donetsk, Crimea and Lugansk regions as Russian. After talks in Geneva just over a week ago, the United States updated the original blueprint following criticism from Kyiv and Europe, but the current contents remain unclear. Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff is due in Moscow for follow-up talks and is expected to discuss Ukraine with Putin on Tuesday. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters the Florida talks were "very productive" but "there's more work to be done". "There are a lot of moving parts, and obviously there's another party involved here that will have to be a part of the equation, and that will continue later this week when Mr Witkoff travels to Moscow," he said. Trump also referred to political turbulence in Kyiv which saw Zelensky last week remove Yermak after a corruption scandal in the energy sector that has troubled Western allies. "Ukraine's got some difficult little problems," Trump said. The diplomatic push comes as the war -- which has killed tens of thousands of civilians and military personnel and displaced millions of Ukrainians -- shows no sign of easing. Russia's forces targeted Ukraine's capital and the region with deadly air strikes two nights in a row over the weekend. A Ukrainian security source, meanwhile, said Kyiv was responsible for attacks on two oil tankers in the Black Sea that it believed were covertly transporting sanctioned Russian oil. One of Russia's largest oil terminals halted operations on Saturday following a drone attack. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), a group that includes US oil majors Chevron and ExxonMobil and which owns the terminal, called the strike a "terrorist attack". Ukraine, which did not comment on the incident, regularly targets Russian energy facilities in a bid to sap the country's war chest. US President Donald Trump has granted clemency to a private equity executive who had served less than two weeks of a seven-year prison term for what prosecutors called a $1.6 billion scheme that cheated thousands of investors. The 59-year-old executive, identified as David Gentile, was released on Wednesday after he had reported to prison on Nov. 14. Gentile and his co-defendant, Jeffry Schneider, were found guilty of securities and wire fraud in August 2024 and were sentenced in May. The commutation given to Gentile does not nullify other potential penalties linked to his conviction, unlike a full pardon. Schneider, who received a six-year sentence, does not appear to have been granted clemency by Trump, according to a report by the New York Times. Alice Marie Johnson, Trump’s “pardon czar,” said on a social media post “, deeply grateful to see David Gentile heading home to his young children.” Donald Trump has utilised the unrestrained presidential clemency power to pardon the crimes of an array of white-collar criminals to make political points. This includes corruptly targeting the ongoing prosecutions of his supporters, just as he claims he was targeted. However, it is still not clear whether Gentile has any link with Donald Trump, as his Lawyers and Schneider's Lawyers declined to make any statement on it. Meanwhile, Gentile has not responded to a request for comment.
Money was utilised for monthly distribution payments
In court filings, prosecutors confirmed that Gentile and Schneider had used private equity funds over several years that were controlled by Gentile’s company, GPB Capital, to defraud 10,000 investors by misreporting the fund's performance and the source of money utilised to make monthly distribution payments. Over 1,000 people submitted statements highlighting their losses, according to prosecutors. “I lost my whole life savings,” one wrote and added, “I am living from check to check.” "Gentile and Schneider had raised approximately $1.6 billion from individual investors based on false promises of generating investment returns from the profits of portfolio companies, all while using investor capital to pay distributions and create a false appearance of success," Joseph Nocella Jr., the U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement after the sentencing in May. “A warning to would-be fraudsters that seeking to get rich by taking advantage of investors gets you only a one-way ticket to jail," he added. However, the White House official contended that prosecutors had misrepresented the business as a Ponzi scheme. The official noted that as early as 2015, GPB had informed investors that their capital could potentially be used to fund certain distributions.

'Lost my life savings': Trump commutes sentence of private equity executive in $1.6bn fraud case

US President Donald Trump on Sunday (Nov 30) said that the pause on asylum decisions for several foreign nationals, including Afghanistan, could remain in place for what he described as a "long time". This follows the fatal shooting of two National Guard members near the White House last week. One guard, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, was killed in the attack on November 26, and another remains in critical condition. The suspected gunman, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is a 29-year-old Afghan national who arrived in the United States through a resettlement pathway for Afghans who assisted US intelligence operations during the war. Lakanwal had once been part of a CIA-supported force battling the Taliban and received asylum in April 2025. He has now been charged with first-degree murder. Also read | Trump says Biden let National Guard killer into US, but docs show he signed the asylum papers.
