<p>"I can eat sugar now," said the 25-year-old woman, who is from the city of Tianjin. According to the researchers, her body has now been able to successfully produce its own insulin for more than a year.</p>

<p>In this new method, islets were inserted just under the abdomen, which helped the researchers monitor their progress using MRI with comparative ease.</p>

<p>In recent years glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (or GLP-1R agonists) have caused excitement, with one such drug, a type 2 diabetes medication called exenatide, found to help slow the progression of motor symptoms in a small group of people.&nbsp;Pow researchers say another such drug, a type 2 diabetes medication called lixisenatide, appears to do the same, supporting the theory that Parkinson’s could be associated with insulin resistance in the brain.</p>

<p>Prof Wassilios Meissner, of University hospital of Bordeaux, a principal investigator of the study, said the results were motivating.</p>

<p>“We have to stay careful about all the understanding and about applicability at the present stage, but it is really a very, very clear and strong signal we have never seen except in the exenatide trial,” he said.</p>

<p>Sasha Korogodski, the lead researcher of the report, pointed out that while over 530 companies worldwide specialise in diabetes diagnostics, only 33 are located in the regions most affected by undiagnosed cases — Africa, south-east Asia and the western Pacific.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Limited healthcare infrastructure, including a shortage of healthcare professionals and diagnostic equipment, can impede the early diagnosis of diabetes," said Korogodski.</p>

<p>A new study has revealed that the number of adults living with diabetes worldwide will more than double by 2050, climbing to 1.3 billion from 529 million in 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The findings published in The Lancet and The Lancet Diabetes &amp; Endocrinology journals have&nbsp;blamed rapidly rising obesity levels and widening health inequalities as the reason for the rapid rise. The paper added that no country will see a decline in age-standardised diabetes rates over the next 30 years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The scientists said Type-2 diabetes remained the most prevalent among the patient pool, accounting for 96 per cent of the cases.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Type 2 diabetes, which makes up the bulk of diabetes cases, is largely preventable and, in some cases, potentially reversible if identified and managed early in the disease course. However, all evidence indicates that diabetes prevalence is increasing worldwide, primarily due to a rise in obesity caused by multiple factors,” wrote the research authors.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In diabetes, the patient's body is unable to control blood sugar levels. Currently, one in 10 adults globally is affected by diabetes and it led to 6.7 million deaths in 2021 alone.&nbsp;</p>

The findings published in The Lancet and The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology journals have blamed rapidly rising obesity levels and widening health inequalities as the reason for the rapid rise. The paper added that no country will see a decline in age-standardised diabetes rates over the next 30 years. The scientists said Type-2 diabetes remained the most prevalent among the patient pool, accounting for 96 per cent of the cases. “Type 2 diabetes, which makes up the bulk of diabetes cases, is largely preventable and, in some cases, potentially reversible if identified and managed early in the disease course. However, all evidence indicates that diabetes prevalence is increasing worldwide, primarily due to a rise in obesity caused by multiple factors,” wrote the research authors. In diabetes, the patient's body is unable to control blood sugar levels. Currently, one in 10 adults globally is affected by diabetes and it led to 6.7 million deaths in 2021 alone. <p>"The findings of this study are very significant as they provide robust estimates of NCDs for the nation. Compared to earlier estimates, India currently has a substantially greater prevalence of metabolic NCDs. <p>The study, conducted by experts from the University of Luxembourg and the University of Ottawa in Canada, builds on previous studies which have found that happy marriage is linked with good health benefits.</p>

<p>The study claims that the benefits of marriage on blood sugar levels hold true regardless of whether the relationship was happy or under strain, especially in older people.</p>

<p>“Increased support for older adults who are experiencing the loss of a marital/cohabitating relationship through divorce or bereavement, as well as the dismantling of negative stereotypes around romantic relationships in later life, may be starting points for addressing health risks, more specifically deteriorating glycemic regulation, associated with marital transitions in older adults,” &nbsp;lead author, Katherine Ford, formerly of the University of Luxembourg and now at Carleton University in Ottawa, said, according to Guardian.</p>

<p>The scientist came to the conclusion after examining data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing on 3,335 adults, aged 50 to 89, who did not have diabetes at the start of the study.</p>

<p>The data showed that 76 per cent of people in the analysis were married or living together.</p>

<p>The researchers found that the nature and quality of the relationship had little to no effect to the average levels of blood glucose, indicating that having a supportive or strained relationship was less important than just having a relationship at all.</p>

<p>&nbsp;“Overall, our results suggested that marital/cohabitating relationships were inversely related to HbA1c levels regardless of dimensions of spousal support or strain,” they said.</p>

<p>“Likewise, these relationships appeared to have a protective effect against HbA1c levels above the pre-diabetes threshold.”</p>
