<p>About six villages have been destroyed and hundreds of civilians have been buried under the debris, as the Taliban called for urgent help.</p>

<p>Ten rescue teams were in the area&nbsp;which borders Iran, Sayeeq added.</p>

<p>Saturday’s tremblor was recorded about 40km from the western city of Herat. Many buildings were damaged, trapping people under rubble as the region witnessed at least three powerful aftershocks.</p>

<h2><strong>Taliban seek help, aid</strong></h2>

<p>The head of the Taliban political office in Qatar&nbsp;Suhail Shaheen has said that Afghanistan needs food, drinking water, medicine, clothes and tents urgently for rescue and relief, Suhail Shaheen.</p>

<p>At least a dozen teams have been scrambled to help with rescue efforts, including from the military and non-profit organisations like the Red Crescent.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, the rescue efforts expanded with helicopters headed to the Rio Pardo Valley. The search and rescue teams worked more in regions around the Taquari Valley, located 150 kilometres northwest of the state capital, Porto Alegre, which recorded the most victims and damage due to the flood and storm.</p>

<p>More heavy rains will batter the state's central-south region, sparing the worst-hit areas, CNBC reported. The authorities continued flooding warnings for the Jacui Cai and Taquari rivers.</p>

<p>Some videos showed people on the top of their houses, pleading for help as rivers overflowed their banks and wide avenues turned into fast-moving streams.<br />

<p>However, around 10,000 tourists stuck in places like Kasol, Kheerganga, and adjoining areas are refusing to trek to safety as they do not want to leave their vehicles behind.</p>

<p>To facilitate the evacuation, expert drivers were arranged to drive the tourist vehicles in the snowbound area. Food and medical supplies have been provided to the stranded tourists at Losar before taking them to Kaza, and the rescue operation is being supervised by the Lahaul and Spiti Deputy Commissioner.</p>

<p>Chandertal Lake, located in the Spiti valley, is a popular tourist destination where visitors often stay in camps. The evacuation from Chandertal has been described as a challenging task by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas. <p>GBS is a rare disorder that affects the immune system causing it to attack the nerves of the body. It can lead to muscle weakness and in severe cases it can cause paralysis or even death.</p>

<p>The health emergency follows&nbsp;a request by Health Minister César Vásquez&nbsp;last Wednesday, who noted that an increase in the number of cases&nbsp;could mean “a lack of immunoglobulin" (antibodies).</p>

<p>In its official statement published on Saturday, the Peru government said that 103 cases were reported until June 23 and the “average monthly number of cases was less than 20 cases per month at the national level" (less than that reported in years prior to the 2019 outbreak).</p>

<p>The decree by President Dina Boluarte also states that around US$ 3.27 million will be allocated to improving patient care, reinforcing control on the number of detections, and drafting reports for the population and health personnel.</p>

<h2><strong>What is that Guillain-Barre syndrome?</strong></h2>

<p>Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a neurological disorder and an autoimmune disease.</p>

<p>The first symptoms of the disease are weakness and tingling in your hands and feet.</p>

<p>"The damage prevents the nerves from sending certain information, such as touch sensations, to the spinal cord and brain. This causes a feeling of numbness. In addition, the brain and spinal cord can no longer transmit signals back to the body, leading to muscle weakness," Medical News Today (MNT) says.</p>

<h2><strong>How does it originate?</strong></h2>

<p>The exact cause of Guillain-Barre syndrome is currently not known. However, two-thirds of patients report symptoms of an infection in the preceding six weeks. These include COVID-19, respiratory or gastrointestinal infection or Zika virus.</p>

<p>No cure has so far been developed to treat Guillain-Barre syndrome. However, there are treatments that help with treating the symptoms and reduce the severity and duration of the illness.</p>

Haiti: At least three killed in earthquake days after deadly floods hit Caribbean nation

<p>Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday said that the death toll due to Cyclone Freddy has reached 326. The cyclone lashed the country after making another landfall on southern Africa's mainland, increasing the total number of people killed across the region to over 400 since February.</p>

<p>"As of yesterday, the death toll from this disaster has risen from 225 to 326, and the number of people displaced has more than doubled to 183,159," said&nbsp; Chakwera, speaking from the devastated southern region near Blantyre.</p>

<p>President Chakwera has further appealed for global aid as the search for survivors continues on Thursday after the mudslides and flooding caused by torrential rains this week.</p>

<p>An appeal for aid has been made by Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi to rebuild destroyed infrastructure.</p>

<p>As per the meteorologists, the cyclone has been exceptional in its duration and its characteristics have been consistent with the warnings given related to climate change.</p>

<p>Using shovels, the rescuers are making a grim hunt for the bodies buried under the mud.</p>

<p>"Since yesterday, we noticed that there have been bubbles forming in the mud so we suspected that there were dead bodies down there, and we decided to alert the rescue teams," said local resident Alfred Mbule.</p>

<p>The death toll in the devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey and neighbouring Syria on February 6 has surpassed the 50,000 mark.</p>

<p>While Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority reported 44,218 deaths on Friday night, Syria announced death toll of 5,914, taking the combined toll in the two countries to above 50,000.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Ankara has expedited the construction work, with President Tayyip Erdogan pledging to rebuild homes within a year.</p>

<p>However, experts are concerned about the pace of construction saying that authorities should put safety before speed. Some buildings that were meant to withstand tremors crumbled in the latest earthquakes, reports Reuters news agency.</p>

<p>An estimated 1,60,000 buildings containing 5,20,000 apartments crumbled in the 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Turkey.</p>

<p>The Turkish government aims to build 2,00,000 apartments and 70,000 village houses at a cost of at least $15 billion, Erdogan said. But the US bank J P Morgan estimates the rebuilding costs to touch $25 billion.</p>

But the US bank J P Morgan estimates the rebuilding costs to touch $25 billion. A video shared by the BBC showed multiple red balloons been planted around the rubble.</p>

We are still giving presents to children in Hatay but we wanted to fulfil our last duty to these angels and we are carrying out this activity with balloons.” Okur adds, “Believe me, every time we tie a balloon my heart hurts. We have tied 1,000-1,500 balloons so far but we will hopefully continue until we reach all parts of the city, until we reach every home of the children who lost their lives.”</p>
