Virat Kohli-led Team India will sport orange jerseys instead of the usual blue in their World Cup clash against England on Sunday at Edgbaston.&nbsp;

The image of the jersey, which is predominantly orange with a tinge of blue, was shared on the official Twitter handle of The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) two days ahead of the match.&nbsp;

The need for an alternative jersey arose after International Cricket Council issued a guideline before the start of the Word Cup, requiring teams to have two different uniforms for all its televised tournaments except hosts England.

"For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has a preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match," the ICC had said in a release.&nbsp;

The concept of multiple jerseys has been inspired from club football in which players choose their colour on a home and away basis.&nbsp;

India opener Rohit Sharma Friday took to the social media to express his disappointment over his <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-rohit-sharmas-controversial-dismissal-divides-fans-and-spectators-230883">controversial dismissal against the West Indies</a>&nbsp;on Thursday.&nbsp;

Rohit, who was ruled out on 18 off 23 balls, posted a close-up picture of his dismissal on his official Twitter page, suggesting that there was a significant gap between the bat and ball.&nbsp;

The picture posted by Rohit indicates that the ball clipped his right pad instead of the bat.

Rohit was visibly disappointed after being given out caught behind by wicketkeeper Shai Hope of the bowling of Kemar Roach in the match on Thursday.&nbsp;

The right-hander was deceived by an in-swinging delivery from Roach in the final ball of the sixth over and the West Indies team went up in appeal for caught behind, suggesting Rohit had got an inside-edge onto the wicketkeeper.

On-field umpire Richard Illingworth ruled it not-out but West Indies captain Jason Holder went for the review and third umpire Michael Gough overturned the call in the Caribbean side's favour.&nbsp;

MS Dhoni is legend of the game, we always back him, says Indian skipper Virat Kohli

West Indies have a bright future despite the team's elimination from the Cricket World Cup on Thursday, fast bowler Kemar Roach said after India snuffed out their slim chances of making the semi-finals.

The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/live-updates-cricket-world-cup-2019-match-34-west-indies-vs-india-230819">comprehensive 125-run defeat at Old Trafford</a> was West Indies' fifth loss in seven matches as the winners of the first two World Cups joined Afghanistan and South Africa on the sidelines.

Roach said players like batsman Shimron Hetmyer and quick bowler Oshane Thomas gave him hope.

"Yeah, I think we have a bright future," Roach, who claimed 3-36 to help restrict India to 268-7, told reporters.

"We have some quality players around. Hetmyer and Oshane, the younger guys, once they get some good guidance, they'll do well for West Indies.&nbsp;

"I've confidence in the guys. I'll always be a fan of West Indies cricket for sure. And there's no doubt about it.

"There are a couple of guys back home doing well as well. So hopefully we'll see these guys filter into the West Indies team in the probably near future."

West Indies began their campaign by beating 1992 champions Pakistan but did not taste another victory and narrowly went down to Australia and New Zealand.

"After the first win against Pakistan, the guys were confident going forward into the World Cup," said Roach, who became the first West Indian to take a World Cup hat-trick in 2011 against the Netherlands.

"I think a couple of close games against Australia and then New Zealand...I think it's tough because you want to get over the line, obviously, and get some confidence going forward but it didn't work out for us.

"But I think the guys, keeping our heads up. We're out now, but obviously there's a future for us.

"We're still learning, couple of young guys on the team got a great future for them. And it's all about being positive and looking forward."

Babar Azam says Pakistan have the belief they can win their remaining games to complete a dramatic turnaround and reach the World Cup semi-finals following <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-pakistan-keep-semi-final-hopes-alive-after-defeating-new-zealand-by-six-wickets-230695">victory against a strong New Zealand</a> side on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Pakistan had a disastrous start to their World Cup campaign, losing three of their first five matches with a single victory, against England, and a no-result.&nbsp;

But Sunday's win over South Africa at Lord's and Wednesday's victory in Birmingham have revived their hopes of pulling off a sensational comeback.&nbsp;

Their next game is on Saturday against Afghanistan, who have lost all seven of their matches at the tournament in England and Wales and they finish their group fixtures against Bangladesh, who are level with Pakistan on seven points.&nbsp;

Sri Lanka are also in the hunt, one point behind but with a game in hand, meaning 1992 winners Pakistan must still rely on other results going in their favour to qualify from the 10-team group phase.&nbsp;

World Cup: Babar Azam says belief is key for Pakistan

Pakistan kept alive their chances of reaching the World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, cruising to a six-wicket win against previously unbeaten New Zealand at Edgbaston.

New Zealand scored 237 for six in their 50 overs but that total proved inadequate as Babar Azam scored an impressive unbeaten century and Haris Sohail (68) offered valuable support.

Pakistan, who beat South Africa on Sunday to revive their flagging World Cup campaign, now have seven points, level with fifth-placed Bangladesh and just one point behind hosts England.

New Zealand are second in the table on 11 points behind Australia, the only team who have qualified so far.

The top four teams qualify for the semi-finals.

World Cup: Pakistan keep semi-final hopes alive after defeating New Zealand by six wickets

India overwhelmed <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/live-updates-cricket-world-cup-2019-match-34-west-indies-vs-india-230819">West Indies by 125 runs</a> on Thursday to continue their march to the Cricket World Cup semi-finals and send the Caribbean team out of the tournament.

Virat Kohli top-scored with 72 to lay the foundations for India's 268 for seven after electing to bat first at Manchester's Old Trafford.

The Indian bowlers, led by paceman Mohammed Shami, then dismissed West Indies for 143 in 34.2 overs to end the West Indies' hopes of progressing.

India, who have displaced England as the top-ranked one-day team, remain the only unbeaten side in the tournament and need just one victory from their remaining three league games to guarantee a semi-finals berth.

West Indies joined Afghanistan and South Africa as the three teams to bow out of the race for the final four so far.

"We can't complain, we have just become the number one side in the world and we have been playing like that for a while now," said captain and man-of-the-match Kohli.

"Things hadn't gone our way with the bat in the last few games but we have found a way to win."

Shami, who took a hat-trick in the previous game, returned figures of 4-16, removing the dangerous Chris Gayle early after a scratchy innings from the opener.

Kohli record

But it was Kohli who set up the win as he became fastest batsman to reach 20,000 international runs in his 417th innings -- India's Sachin Tendulkar and Caribbean batsman Brian Lara both required 453 international innings to reach the landmark.

Wicketkeeper-batsman M.S. Dhoni and Hardik Pandya boosted the total, putting on 70 runs for the sixth wicket to punish the otherwise-disciplined bowlers.

Pandya hit 46 off 38 balls while Dhoni remained unbeaten on 56, ending the innings with a big six.

The West Indies bowlers, led by paceman Kemar Roach, had kept India in check until the latter stages, stemming the flow of runs with regular wickets.

Roach returned impressive figures of 3-36 in his 10 overs, including the wicket of India opener Rohit Sharma for 18.

Kohli, whose 82-ball knock included eight boundaries, extended his fine run of form with some eye-catching shots that charmed a partisan crowd at Old Trafford.

West Indies were in trouble early in their reply when Gayle mistimed a short ball from Shami and was caught by Kedar Jadhav to the left of mid-on after struggling to just six runs off 19 balls.

Shai Hope tried to take the Shami on and hit him for a boundary but the bowler responded by rattling his stumps with the next ball as West Indies slipped to 16-2.

It was all downhill from there for a struggling Caribbean side who failed to maintain momentum after their opening World Cup win against Pakistan.

Paceman Jasprit Bumrah and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets each.

West Indies captain Jason Holder said: "The bowlers did a fantastic job on this surface. I couldn't ask for more but we let ourselves down with the bat.

"We didn't seize the moment but I would have taken chasing 268. We didn't do it.

"We have let ourselves down significantly in this tournament. The bowlers had a reasonable campaign but our batting has been too inconsistent. This is our weakest format of the three."

Head coach Mickey Arthur has claimed Pakistan's World Cup defeat against bitter rivals India was so painful that it left him wanting to "commit suicide".

Pakistan suffered a bruising 89-run loss to India in Manchester on June 16, a result which sparked a furious backlash from their frustrated fans.

The defeat put Pakistan's hopes of reaching the World Cup semi-finals in grave danger.

And, although they kept alive their slender last-four hopes by beating South Africa on Sunday, Arthur admitted the India loss left him feeling desperately low.

"Last Sunday I wanted to commit suicide," Arthur said.

"But it was, you know, it's only one performance.

"It happens so quick. You lose a game; you lose another game; it's a World Cup; media scrutiny; public expectation, and then you almost go into sort of survival mode. We've all been there."

Arthur's emotional comment may have been exaggerated to show how passionate he is about his job.

But some fans feel the South Africa-born coach's words are in bad taste given Pakistan's former coach Bob Woolmer died of natural causes during the 2007 World Cup.

Pakistan lifted Arthur's spirts with an impressive 49-run win against South Africa at Lord's.

They now need to win their remaining three matches and improve their inferior net run-rate to have a chance of finishing in the top four and advancing to the semi-finals.

Pakistan play New Zealand in Birmingham on Wednesday.

"We always keep telling our players, it's one performance. Who is going to stimulate us today?" Arthur added.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/shakib-al-hasan-becomes-first-bangladeshi-cricketer-to-cross-1000-run-mark-in-world-cup-230034">Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan</a> believes Bangladesh have the wherewithal to create an upset against India but they will need to produce their absolute best to outwit the title favourites and keep their World Cup semifinal hopes alive.

Shakib produced a brilliant allround display, scoring a fifty and returning with a five-wicket haul as <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-bangladesh-keep-semi-final-hopes-alive-with-62-run-win-over-afghanistan-230128">Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 62 runs</a> here on Monday to grab the fifth spot in the points table.

Bangladesh will need to beat India (July 2) and Pakistan (July 5) in their final two group matches to salvage any hopes of a knockout stage.

"India are the top side, someone who is looking at the title, it is not going to be easy but we will give it our best shot," Shakib told reporters.

"Experience will help, we have to play our best cricket to be able to beat India. They have got world-class players who can take the match in their own hands. We have to be at our best but I believe we are a capable enough team."&nbsp;

Bangladesh's spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi also exuded confidence about the spinners in their ranks and hoped they will produce the goods against India when they meet next week.

"We all know they play spin well. But so do we, we play spin very well and played it well against Afghanistan," said Joshi, who has played 15 Test and 69 ODIs for India between 1996 to 2001.

"We have shown in the white ball formats here and before this how we are a good side, we won in Ireland, we have beaten West Indies home and away and come close to beating India three times in the past three years.

"We have our own brand of cricket we are playing with the likes of Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal, then Mashrafe Mortaza with the ball, and the others."

Afghanistan had troubled India at The Ageas Bowl, restricting them to 224 for 8 and Joshi admitted he would enjoy a similar surface at Edgbaston.

"We have quality spinners, the same as India," added Joshi.&nbsp;

"How do you deal with them? Facing them and bowling to them it is the same. You think of it one ball at a time.

"Every team has their strengths and weaknesses. I have seen India very closely when we have played them. We know where to bowl to them."

England skipper Eoin Morgan said that his side was outplayed by the defending champions in the Match 32 of Cricket World Cup 2019 on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Aaron Finch-led Australia became the first team in the ongoing edition of World Cup to enter the semi-finals after <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-australia-reach-semis-with-64-run-win-over-arch-rivals-england-230432">defeating World Cup favourites England by 64 runs</a>.&nbsp;

Although, he also added that it is not hugely disappointing and the fate is in their own hands.&nbsp;

Finch made 100 to lead his team to a competitive but not imposing total of 285 for seven and in reply to that, England were all-out on 221 in 44.4 overs.&nbsp;

Ben Stokes top-scored for England with 89 but the hosts never seriously threatened to get close to their target.&nbsp;

"A lot of today, we were outplayed," said Morgan while speaking during the post-match presentation. Now, the hosts are in serious danger of failing to reach the last four.

"Little bit unlucky as Australia played and missed a lot. They built a fantastic partnership. Wicket got a little bit better, but still challenging," he added.&nbsp;

"Choosing to bat would've been a horrific decision. Finch played really well, capitalized on the start he got," Morgan defended his decision of opting to bowl first.&nbsp;

"Given the circumstances, it's not hugely disappointing. Our fate is in our own hands. Everything we need to turn around is simple. Won't search for anything that's not there," said Morgan.&nbsp;

Australia's sixth win in seven games took the defending champions into the semi-finals while England have now lost three matches and may need to beat India and New Zealand to make the last four.

England skipper Eoin Morgan said that his side was outplayed by the defending champions in the Match 32 of Cricket World Cup 2019 on Tuesday. Aaron Finch-led Australia became the first team in the ongoing edition of World Cup to enter the semi-finals after defeating World Cup favourites England by 64 runs. Although, he also added that it is not hugely disappointing and the fate is in their own hands. Finch made 100 to lead his team to a competitive but not imposing total of 285 for seven and in reply to that, England were all-out on 221 in 44.4 overs. Ben Stokes top-scored for England with 89 but the hosts never seriously threatened to get close to their target. "A lot of today, we were outplayed," said Morgan while speaking during the post-match presentation. Now, the hosts are in serious danger of failing to reach the last four. "Little bit unlucky as Australia played and missed a lot. They built a fantastic partnership. Wicket got a little bit better, but still challenging," he added. Match in numbers: "Choosing to bat would've been a horrific decision. Finch played really well, capitalized on the start he got," Morgan defended his decision of opting to bowl first. "Given the circumstances, it's not hugely disappointing. Our fate is in our own hands. Everything we need to turn around is simple. Won't search for anything that's not there," said Morgan. Australia's sixth win in seven games took the defending champions into the semi-finals while England have now lost three matches and may need to beat India and New Zealand to make the last four.

Australia <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/live-updates-cricket-world-cup-2019-match-32-england-vs-australia-230276">confirmed their place in the semi-finals</a> of the Cricket World Cup on Tuesday with a comprehensive 64-run victory against England.

Australian skipper Aaron Finch made exactly 100 in a total of 285-7 before England slumped to 221 all out with 32 balls left.

The recalled Behrendorff took 5-44 -- his first five-wicket haul in a one-day international -- while Starc became the leading bowler at the tournament with 19 scalps thanks to a haul of 4-43.

For England, who entered the showpiece event as the top-ranked side in ODI cricket, this was a second straight defeat after their shock 20-run loss to Sri Lanka.

The host nation, bidding to win a first World Cup title, can still qualify for the semi-finals but they are likely to need to beat at least one of India and New Zealand in their remaining two group games.

"There are teams that you have confidence playing against but I have had plenty of low scores against England as well," said man-of-the-match Finch.

"It was nipping around first thing. We were as tight as we could be and then took advantage of any width."

England's reply saw them lose a wicket off just the second ball of their chase, with the struggling James Vince -- only playing because Jason Roy was out with a hamstring injury -- bowled by a Behrendorff inswinger.

Starc then took two wickets in nine balls.

Test skipper Joe Root was plumb lbw to an inswinger for eight before England captain Eoin Morgan (four) fell into a hooking trap when a top-edge was held safely by Pat Cummins at fine leg.

Australia, who had lost 10 of their previous 11 ODIS against England, were in complete charge with the hosts now 26-3.

England have surged to the top of the ODI rankings on the back of aggressive run-scoring but the worry for Morgan's men is that too many of their top-order appear to know only one way to bat.

Careless England

Jonny Bairstow, for example, fell next to a careless hook off Behrendorff before Stokes and Jos Buttler (25) repaired some of the damage with a fifth-wicket stand of 71.

Buttler was well caught by Usman Khawaja, running round and staying just inside the deep square leg boundary off Marcus Stoinis.

Stokes defiantly hit Glenn Maxwell for two sixes in three balls but, shortly before completing his fifty, the all-rounder pulled up with a calf injury.

Starc was brought back to take a key wicket and duly obliged with a thunderbolt yorker, his 18th wicket of the tournament, that ended Stokes's 115-ball innings of 89, including eight fours and two sixes.&nbsp;

Stokes's dismissal left England 177-6 in the 37th over and effectively ended the contest. Starc ended the match when he dismissed Adil Rashid.

World Cup: Australia reach semis with 64-run win over arch-rivals England

On a balmy evening on June 25, 1983, Kapil Dev etched his name in the heart of every cricket fan in India while holding aloft the Prudential Cup in Lord's balcony after beating the mighty West Indies led by the indomitable Clive Lloyd.

West Indies lost the throne and then never got it back again. It was a watershed moment in world cricket and saw the advent of Asia in the game which was otherwise dominated by the big three - England, Australia and West Indies.

On that historic Saturday, Clive Lloyd won the toss and put India into bat. It seemed the West Indies bowlers led by Andy Roberts, Joel Garner, Malcolm Marshall and Michael Holding would tear apart the Indian line-up and it went as predicted.

Gavaskar lost his wicket to Roberts with India reduced to 2-1 but his counterpart Kris Srikkanth had other ideas. In true T20 fashion, India's premier blaster layed into the attack hitting boundaries and sixes in a well-planned counter-attack.

Srikkant hit 38 in 57 balls studded with seven boundaries and one six as India pulled back from Gavaskar's early loss. Mohinder Amarnath who was declared the man of the match pitched in with 26(80 balls) with three boundaries to keep India in the game.

Sandeep Patil, the six-hitter par excellence who was known for his hook shots made a quickfire 27 in just 29 balls with one six but others failed to capitalise as India folded for just 183 in 54.4 overs.

Andy Roberts picked up 3 wickets with Marshall, Holding and Larry Gomes pitching in with two wickets respectively.

Then began India's fairytale...

West Indies batsman started their innings and began falling by the wayside. Opener Greenidge left with just 5 runs on the board, Haynes was no better scoring just 13. Viv Richards kept West Indies in the match but after Kapil Dev took his catch running back to a well-pitched Madan Lal delivery with West Indies on 57-3, Indian supporters felt their nerves tingle.

Madan Lal picked up three crucial wickets - Haynes, Richards and Gomes and Amarnath dislodged wicketkeeper Dujon, Malcolm Marshall and last man&nbsp; - Michael Holding as India n fans ran into the pitch to hug their heroes.

It was 36 years ago today, but for Indian fans it happened yesterday. Although Team India went on to win another World Cup after 28 years in 2011 at the Wankhede in Mumbai under MS Dhoni, the feeling of the first Cup never subsided.

India's love affair with cricket began on that day and it continued.

Aiming to live up to his illustrious surname, Arjun Tendulkar ran in fast and bowled at the England batsmen on the eve of their big-ticket clash against arch-rivals Australia.

The son of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar Monday marked his run-up at the Lord's nets during England's practice session, drawing, on expected lines, the attention of those present at the mecca of cricket.

Sporting an orange t-shirt, Arjun could be seen bowling to England batsmen under the watchful eyes of the team's spin bowling consultant, Saqlain Mushtaq.

This is not the first time that Arjun has bowled in the nets for England. In 2015, as a 15-year-old, he was part of the group of net bowlers which helped England prepare for the second Ashes Test against Australia.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/live-updates-cricket-world-cup-2019-match-31-bangladesh-vs-afghanistan-229969">Bangladesh boosted their bid to reach the World Cup semi-finals</a> as Shakib Al Hasan's superb all-round display inspired a 62-run win over Afghanistan on Monday.

Shakib's 51 laid the foundations for Bangladesh to score 262-7 and made him the leading run-scorer in this year's World Cup.

The 32-year-old then ripped through the Afghan batting line-up with his career-best ODI figures of 5-29 from 10 overs.

Shakib is only the second player in World Cup history to take five wickets and hit a 50 in the same match after India's Yuvraj Singh against Ireland in 2011.

"I had to work really hard with the bat. I think the five wickets gave me greater pleasure, it was important," Shakib said.&nbsp;

"I did work hard before the start of the tournament. It's the best prepared I've been and it's paying off."

Bangladesh, winners against South Africa and the West Indies earlier in the tournament, are up to fifth place in the 10-team group stage.

Mashrafe Mortaza's side play India and Pakistan in their final two group matches.

"Shakib has been fantastic throughout the tournament. We'll try our level best against Pakistan and India. It's still wide open," Mashrafe said.

Afghanistan became the first team to be eliminated after an agonising 11-run loss against India on Saturday, when Mohammed Shami's final-over hat-trick denied them a famous upset.

Gulbadin Naib's team have lost all seven of their matches, leaving them with two games to avoid finishing the tournament without a single point.

"Obviously we played two tough games and today we missed something. Our fielding gave away 30 to 40 extra runs," Naib said.

Earlier, Shakib became the leading run scorer in this year's World Cup so far as his side posted a solid score after being put into bat.

Shakib's 51 took him to 476 runs in the tournament, while Mushfiqur top-scored with 83 from 87 balls.

Liton fell for 16 after being fooled into a miscued drive by spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who finished with 3-39.

That brought Shakib to the crease and he upped the tempo with some aggressive hitting that maintained his fine form.

When Shakib, who has two centuries already in the tournament, pulled Naib to the boundary, it moved him above Australia's David Warner's 447 runs.

Tamim and Shakib put on their fourth successive fifty partnership in one-day internationals.

Shakib went on to become only the second player to hit six consecutive 40-plus scores in a World Cup.

Not long after that milestone, Shakib brought up his half-century in 66 balls -- his fifth score of 50 or more in this tournament -- to huge cheers from the Bangladesh fans who made up the majority of the crowd.

Shakib was unable to turn his solid start into another century, but he would contribute more than enough with the ball to seal the victory.

Bangladesh boosted their bid to reach the World Cup semi-finals as Shakib Al Hasan's superb all-round display inspired a 62-run win over Afghanistan on Monday. Shakib's 51 laid the foundations for Bangladesh to score 262-7 and made him the leading run-scorer in this year's World Cup.

Shakib is only the second player in World Cup history to take five wickets and hit a 50 in the same match after India's Yuvraj Singh against Ireland in 2011. "I had to work really hard with the bat. I think the five wickets gave me greater pleasure, it was important," Shakib said. "I did work hard before the start of the tournament. It's the best prepared I've been and it's paying off." Rahmat Shah and Gulbadin put on 49 for the first wicket, giving Afghanistan hope of a surprise win. But Shakib's introduction brought the breakthrough as the spinner weaved his magic. Match in numbers: Rahmat carelessly flicked a flatter delivery to Tamim Iqbal at mid-on and departed for 24. Hashmatullah Shahidi perished when he tried to accelerate, stumped by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mosaddek Hossain for 11. During their 89-run defeat against India, Sarfaraz Ahmed's boys have seen fielding as if they were trying to catch chickens. In that very match, they missed a very easy opportunity to run Rohit Sharma out as the fielder threw at the wrong end.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has said that he is very much confident that Pakistan will reach to the semi-finals.

"We are very firmly in the World Cup. We will win our next three games and will qualify," Arthur said.

Pakistan stand at the seventh spot in the tournament standings with five points. Only the top four teams of the table will qualify for the semi-final. After losing to their arch-rival India in the last game, Pakistani team were slammed heavily by their supporters worldwide as they never defeated them in the World Cup history.

But the road to semi-finals is not easy with an ordinary fielding side.

Pakistan will have to improve their fielding if they want to make Arthur's statement true.

Pakistan 'beat' India in dropped catches with a huge margin in World Cup 2019

England captain Eoin Morgan insists it is not his job to tell supporters how to react to shamed Australia stars David Warner and Steve Smith when the arch-rivals meet in a crucial World Cup clash on Tuesday.

Warner and Smith have found themselves booed by some fans in England after returning to international cricket following year-long bans for ball-tampering.

Australia coach Justin Langer has called for the taunts to stop, with India captain Virat Kohli and Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed telling their supporters to lay off the duo.

But, although the Australia clash is being played at Lord's -- the 'home of cricket' where crowds are traditionally polite -- Morgan refused to issue a plea to respect Warner and Smith.

"I'm not expecting anything. I think fans and supporters up and down the country will have different reactions, as they will around the world. So we'll see," Morgan told reporters at Lord's on Monday.

"Supporters pay a lot of money, they do. And sport is beautiful in many ways, because it attracts people from far and wide.

"And you often see crowds offering support to both sets of players in the grounds."

'Acceptance will take time'

Morgan added: "You don't know how sports fans will react.

"Just because two guys have been punished, served their punishment and returned to play, it doesn't mean they will be accepted back into the cricket community straight away. It will take time."

England batsman Jonny Bairstow accused Australia of double standards in asking fans to go easy on Warner and Smith because former coach Darren Lehmann had previously urged supporters to verbally abuse England quick Stuart Broad during an Ashes series 'Down Under'.&nbsp;

Asked for his opinion of Bairstow's comments, Morgan said: "I don't have a view on it. I think every instance is different, every team is different.

"I believe that was a long time ago under a different regime. I don't know."

Australia captain Aaron Finch said he was resigned to the taunts continuing but claimed they had not hurt Warner and Smith in any case.

"Whether someone comes out and says do or don't, it's going to happen regardless anyway," said Finch at his pre-match press conference.&nbsp;

"It hasn't affected our boys one bit. I can honestly say that. If anything it's given them a bit more motivation.&nbsp;

"As a player you don't tend to hear a hell of a lot of stuff from the fans.

"I'm sure that's the last thing from Steve or Davie's mind when they walk out to bat, if a handful of people or a whole stadium are booing."&nbsp;

Defeats by Sri Lanka and Pakistan mean England could need to win two of their three remaining group matches against Australia, India and New Zealand to reach the semi-finals.

But Morgan tried to play down the significance of the latest clash with their old enemies by saying: "It's not must-win yet. We don't need to win every game to get to the semi-final."

'Acceptance will take time': Eoin Morgan refuses to issue plea to respect Warner and Smith

The World Cup is alive. Well, three of the top four look safe, but a few wins here and there and we may get a surprise fourth entrant. And hey, now that the rain has held off and we’ve had a several thrillers in the span of a few days, its actually turned out to be a pretty fun tournament.

Hosts and top-ranked England, touted as favourites well before the World Cup began, have been beaten by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the latter the upset of the tournament. Eoin Morgan‘s team now needs to win two of its remaining three matches to guarantee their place in the semi-finals. Their opponents? Australia, New Zealand and India.

The three teams that with them comprise the World Cup’s top four. New Zealand, who they last beat in a World Cup match back in 1992.

What works in England’s favour is that nobody else can win six matches in a row, so this keeps the home team in the green zone. They also have a good net run-rate (1.457). So, even one win out of three could be enough. On Tuesday, Eoin Morgan’s team plays defending champions Australia. A win for England here will be a big boost. A loss will throw the points table open wider.

Australia, second on the World Cup points table, also have a couple tough matches to play. England won’t be easy, New Zealand always punch above their weight and South Africa, their World Cup over, could be the banana peel. By the time Australia meet New Zealand at Lord’s on June 29, the Blackcaps may already have secured passage to the semi-finals if they beat Pakistan three days earlier at Edgbaston.

Kane Williamson‘s team, having just managed to beat West Indies at Old Trafford on Saturday, now need to win one of their remaining three matches – versus Pakistan, Australia and England – to make the semi-finals.

As they showed in tough chases against Bangladesh and South Africa, New Zealand have the stomach for a scrap. Ross Taylor did it against Bangladesh when the target was 245, Williamson stood up brilliantly to haul them to a last-over win when chasing 241 versus South Africa and against West Indies, both of them combined to put up a match-winning total, but just. For sheer drama, these three wins are right up there. New Zealand have escaped defeat thrice, so don’t expect them to buckle against England or India.

India, along with New Zealand the only team to not lose yet, squeezed past Afghanistan in Southampton. West Indies, Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka remain. Virat Kohli‘s Indian cricket team must win twice to make it to the semis. Despite the loss of Bhuvneshwar Kumar for at least two matches – he is targeting the England game on June 30 – India have a very fine bowling attack and should make it comfortably. Questions hang over their middle order, which was exposed by Afghanistan’s spinners at The Rose Bowl.

Sri Lanka’s win over England has kept them in the hunt for the semi-finals. On six points, they have to win all three remaining fixtures – versus South Africa, West Indies and India – to get to 12. Two wins will give them 10 points, which may not be enough owing to the top four’s dominance. Other results will have to go their way.

One spot below Sri Lanka are Bangladesh, with five points. Today they play Afghanistan, who beat them at last year’s Asia Cup, India and Pakistan. If they beat Afghanistan in Southampton, Bangladesh will move to seven points. Getting past India will be tough, which means that their clash with Pakistan at Lord’s on July 5 could be make-or-break.

Pakistan, after beating South Africa by 49 runs at Lord’s, have five points. They still need to beat New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh to finish on 11. For a team that oscillates from the awesome to the absurd, it is a nearly impossible task. But Mickey Arthur, their coach, believes it is possible, with a little help from other teams.

As things look today, Pakistan are competing with one of Australia and England for a spot in the final four. It may not require net run-rate, because England and Australia have even points to Pakistan’s odd.

West Indies, with just three points and games versus India, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan to go, cannot make the semi-finals. South Africa and Afghanistan are eliminated. Each could do damage to others, provided they really lift their games.

Did anyone say this is a dull World Cup?

Cricket World Cup semi-final scenario: Pakistan stay alive, England vs Australia at Lord's key to shaping top four

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to cross 1,000-run mark in World Cup career and just the 19th man to reach the landmark overall.&nbsp;

Shakib achieved this feat while playing Match 31 of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=cricket+world+cup">Cricket World Cup 2019</a> against Afghanistan on Monday in Southampton.&nbsp;

The 32-year-old scored 51 runs before losing his wicket to Mujeeb Ur Rahman in 30th over.&nbsp;

During the match, Shakib moved him above Australia's David Warner's 447 runs and became the leading run scorer in this year's event.&nbsp;

Liton Das' wicket brought Shakib to the crease and he upped the tempo with some aggressive hitting that maintained his fine World Cup form.

Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib won the toss and elected to bowl first after the start of play was delayed 10 minutes by light rain.

Victory for Bangladesh would move them into fifth place in the 10-team table.

That would leave Bangladesh within one point of fourth-placed England, who play Australia on Tuesday, as the race hots up to qualify for the semi-finals via a top-four finish.

South Africa's players expressed bitter disappointment and even embarrassment after their elimination from the World Cup was ensured by their <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/pakistan-beat-south-africa-by-49-runs-to-end-proteas-world-cup-dream-229844">loss to Pakistan</a> at Lord's on Sunday but they said they would learn lessons and return stronger.

The Proteas' chances of progressing in the tournament evaporated after they logged their fifth loss in seven matches, making it mathematically impossible for them to secure a top-four spot and a place in the semi-finals.

"It's becoming where it's a little bit embarrassing. We're trying, but it's just not good enough. Obviously, I'm human as well so it will keep chipping away at me," captain Faf du Plessis told reporters after a 49-run defeat at Lord's.

"I'm a very proud player and captain, and playing for South Africa means a lot for me, and the fact (is) that the results we're dishing out at the moment - you know it's really, really tough," he said.

The team's headline bowler, paceman Kagiso Rabada, said the whole team felt like they had failed to play to their usual standard, both on Sunday and throughout the tournament.

"Pakistan turned up, and we didn't," he said.

"We're very disappointed. We tried so hard at practices and we spoke about what we needed to do, but unfortunately we just couldn't bring it out into the field of play. And that's what you have to do in tournaments like this.

"We try to prepare, we do our analysis. We come in with a good mindset - it's just execution is one thing that's been a question mark for us," added Rabada.

Du Plessis said the team had been running low on confidence as their losses piled up and turning that around rested mostly with each individual player.

"For me at the moment, it's a confidence thing. The guys are playing with low confidence and therefore making more mistakes," he said.

"The responsibility lies with every player to try and make sure that he comes to the park and gives everything, and if confidence is an issue, you need to sort it out yourself.

"You know, if I could I would get my wand out and get some runs on the table for our batters. But I can't, unfortunately."

Rabada and Du Plessis said the team had lessons to learn, and that they would be fighting to get things right next time.

"We'll definitely be back firing, looking to nail some of the things that we wanted to nail in this tournament," Rabada said.

Pakistan beat South Africa by 49 runs to end Proteas' World Cup dream

The Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) has been criticised for using word "thump" in one of their tweets while posting India's hard-fought win over Afghanistan on Saturday.&nbsp;

In a last over thriller, India registered an <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-mohammed-shami-hat-trick-seals-narrow-india-win-over-afghanistan-229641">11-run win over Afghanistan</a> in the 28th match of Cricket World Cup 2019 in Southampton.&nbsp;

After a brilliant bowling display, Afganistan restricted India to 224 for eight and Mohammad Nabi had almost pulled off a win, taking the contest to the last over.&nbsp;

However, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami struck thrice (grabbed a hat-trick) in the final over&nbsp;to inspire India towards victory.&nbsp;

The official Twitter handle of India's cricket board posted the final result with a captain: "And we march on - #TeamIndia thump Afghanistan by 11 runs".

Within seconds, cricket fans&nbsp;noticed the gloating tone of the BCCI tweet and started replying to it.&nbsp;

"Thump? That is hugely disingenuous to a team that pushed you to the last over. Well played Afghanistan and perhaps India can learn how to win graciously," a Twitter user, who goes by the name leebailey, said.

Another user posted, "That's not called "thump". That's called escaping by the skin of their teeth. Well played Afghanistan!"

Two-time world champions India are unbeaten with four wins and a washout from five games as they move closer to a semi-final place.

"Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to 'Excessive appealing during an International Match'", an ICC release said.

Saturday's incident occurred in the 29th over of the Afghanistan innings, when Kohli advanced towards umpire Aleem Dar after pacer Jasprit Bumrah struck Rahmat Shah on his pads and appealed for an lbw decision.

It was a breach of Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Kohli admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the match referee Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, and as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Kohli, for whom it was the second offence since the introduction of the revised Code in September 2016.&nbsp;

Kohli now has two demerit points after having got one demerit point during the Pretoria Test against South Africa on 15 January 2018.
On-field umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Richard Kettleborough and fourth official Michael Gough levelled the charges.&nbsp;

When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player.&nbsp;

Demerit points to remain on a Player or Player Support Personnel's disciplinary record for a period of 24 months from their imposition following which they will be expunged.&nbsp;

World Cup: Indian skipper Virat Kohli fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

New Zealand boosted their bid to reach the World Cup semi-finals as Kane Williamson's 148 set up a dramatic five-run win over the West Indies on Saturday.

Williamson's imperious 154-ball innings laid the foundations for New Zealand's 291-8 at Old Trafford.

In a thrilling run-chase, West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite hit 101 from 82 balls to carry his team to the brink of victory before being caught on the boundary going for what would have been the winning six.

New Zealand are top of the 10-team table with five wins from six matches.

India captain Virat Kohli Saturday said the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-mohammed-shami-hat-trick-seals-narrow-india-win-over-afghanistan-229641">hard-fought win over Afghanistan</a> in the Word Cup was much-needed as it helped the two-time champions to show their character and clinch a victory from the jaws of defeat.&nbsp;

Mohammed Shami's last-over hattrick Saturday saved India from a mighty scare after they managed to pip Afghanistan by 11 runs to inch closer towards World Cup semi-finals. &nbsp;

Shami (9.5-1-40-4), playing his first match, not only successfully defended 16 runs off the last over but also dismissed the dangerous Mohammed Nabi (52 off 55 balls), Aftab Alam (0) and Mujeeb ur Rahman (0) off successive deliveries to complete the rare feat.&nbsp;

Afghanistan were bowled out for 213 in pursuit of a manageable 225 run target which at one stage looked gettable after the Indian middle-order flopped in their first World Cup test.&nbsp;

"This game was way more important for us, because things didn't go as planned. That's when you need to show character and bounce back," Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony.&nbsp;

Drafted into the playing eleven in place of injured Bhuvneswar Kumar, Shami Saturday became only the second Indian cricketer to register a hattrick in World Cup after Chetan Sharma, who achieved the feat in 1987.&nbsp;

Kohli, thus, was effusive in his praise for the speedster.&nbsp;

"Everyone's waiting for an opportunity. Shami was really good today. He was making the ball move more than anybody. We knew these guys were hungry," he said.&nbsp;

Rating the win over Afghanistan as a special one, the India captain said the wicket was a difficult one for stroke-making because of its two-paced nature.&nbsp;

"This is right up there (as a win). You win the toss, and you decide to bat and then you see the wicket slow down. You think 260 or 270 would be a good total," he said. &nbsp;

"At the halfway stage, we had our doubts in our minds, but we also had self-belief in the change rooms. As soon as I went in, I understood the pace of the pitch. Cross-batted shots aren't on, and a lot of horizontal bat shots cost us on this pitch." &nbsp;

Kohli also praised man-of-the-match Jasprit Bumrah for his impressive bowling display that brought India back into the contest. &nbsp;

"It's simple - we want to use him (Bumrah) smartly. When he takes one or two wickets, he can go on, but otherwise we try to ensure the opposition knows that he has seven or so overs to go," he said.&nbsp;

Man-of-the-match Bumrah (2/39) said Kohli's belief in his ability spurs him to do do better every time he runs into bowl. &nbsp;

"That gives you a lot of confidence when the captain has so much trust in you. Helps me keep a clearer head," he said.&nbsp;

Bumrah also elaborated on India's strategy while defending the low total.&nbsp;

"We saw the wicket getting slower and slower. You had to be accurate and it's a big ground, so you had go for the yorkers and bowl wicket-to-wicket. &nbsp;

"What we wanted to do was that when you run behind wickets, you don't get wickets. Our plan was to get the run-rate high and create chances," he said.&nbsp;

Bumrah too praised his pace bowling colleague Shami for his impressive display on his maiden outing in the ongoing World Cup.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"That's very good, because it gives us healthy competition within the side. We discuss what the plans are, and it's great when everybody is chipping in with wickets," he said.&nbsp;

Afghanistan skipper Gulbadin Naib showered praise on his bowling unit but said Bumrah eventually made the difference. &nbsp;

"We bowled really well, and everybody in the batting lineup was strong. We did well in the batting too, but credit goes to Bumrah for the way he bowled in the last three overs. He was superb," he said. &nbsp;

"The wicket was really good for batting during the first half. The spinners stuck to the plan, and they did really well. We had other options than Rashid (Khan) and Mujeeb (Ur Rahman), but in the backend, Aftab (Alam) and I also bowled well, but India is a good side, and a favourite side." &nbsp;

He, however, said such tough games against strong teams like India will do a world of good for Afghanistan. &nbsp;

"The total was not that much (to chase) but in the middle, we needed some 80s and 100s, 20s and 30s aren't enough against a team like this. When chasing 220s, you need some batsmen to take responsibility and go longer.

"We have lost four games very badly, but last two games we have played really well. This is tough cricket against high-ranking teams, and you have to fight your best," Naib said.
