Speaking highly of the Indian skipper, Sehwag, while talking with the ICC, backed him to do well and score daddy hundreds like last time. He added that Rohit is a big-match player and comes across as a completely different batter when the big stage arrives.

Sehwag, who also played with Rohit at ICC events, said,&nbsp;"I think lots of openers because India has a good wicket, so openers will get more opportunities. I think if I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I know I'm Indian, and I should pick Indian, so Rohit Sharma."

Nazmul said there was no alternate option other than Shakib for the post.&nbsp;

"There was never any confusion. I told you before. He is the obvious choice. Who else can lead? But we had to talk to him before appointing him. Nobody should think anything else. Shakib is the captain. He was always the main choice," Nazmul said.

A Test veteran Ashwin last featured for India in an ODI in January 2022, and with selectors almost confirming the provisional squad for the two mega events – Asia Cup and CWC 2023, chances of him getting a final run in this format look&nbsp;bleak.

From 2011 to 2017, Ashwin featured in almost all major ICC events for India, but following a mediocre run in the 2017 Champions Trophy Final, selectors overlooked him. Though he returned to play the previous two T20 World Cups in the UAE and Australia, respectively, selectors didn’t seem too impressed with his white-ball credentials, and as a result, he remained out of the scheme.

"I don't think like that, because the selection of the team is not my job. I had decided long back that I would not think about stuff that is not in my hand. I am honestly in a very good space in terms of life and my cricket and I try to keep negativity away from my thought process," Ashwin told TOI.

Ashwin added he is not likely to be around for the marquee event, but India’s most successful off-spinner in Tests still wishes to see the home lift trophy.

"I live for the day, and I have no unfinished business. But it's true that I would love to see India winning the World Cup again, even if I am not playing," Ashwin added.

Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will name the squad for the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday. While the focus would remain on returning pair of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, selectors will have to take some crucial calls regarding the backup player for the number four slot and India’s pacers and spinners for the six-team tournament starting August 30.

A week after Kane posted a video of him facing some throw downs in the nets, he claims to be taking baby steps in his recovery process, thus remaining hopeful of attaining complete fitness before the CWC'23 squad announcement date. Having undergone surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in his right knee in April, Kane got ruled out for six to eight months.

Speaking with the media personnel&nbsp;on the sidelines of a training session at the Bay Oval, Kane said he is happy with his recovery progress, and even though participating at the World Cup means the world to him, it still remains guesswork.&nbsp;

Waqar, a legend of the game who ended with a total of 789 wickets, admitted that during World Cups, the national side used to get bogged down versus India.&nbsp;"In our times, the pressure wasn't that of a big concern as what it seems right now. The lesser you play against a team, that too against a big team - so whenever you'll play them, especially if it is Pakistan and India, the pressure would be immense and tripled. Pressure is always high, but maybe in our times, it was comparatively lesser because we used to play lots of cricket in my early days. But then again, in World Cup, we used to choke against India. Nonetheless, as I said, players these days are handling the pressure definitely better. These match-winners, which I mentioned earlier, they'll win us the game," Waqar told&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan.

In a shocking turn of events, two-time ODI World Cup Champions West Indies have been knocked out of the quadrennial tournament's upcoming edition. West Indies needed to beat Scotland in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers but the minnow showed them out instead.

This was also Scotland's first victory over West Indies in ODI cricket. The 1975 and '79 ODI WC champion and 1983 runners-up will now not be travelling to India for the 13th edition of the tournament. &nbsp;

After losing the toss, West Indies were asked to bat first. They had a horrid start as they lost their first four wickets inside 10 overs - they were reeling at 30/4 in 6.5 overs to be exact. The day got even worse as they were pinned down by the Scottish bowlers and soon found themselves at six down for 81.

Brandon McMullen took three wickets for Scotland. Chris Sole, Mark Watt and Chris Greaves chipped in with two each and Safyaan Sharif took one wicket.

Chasing 182, Christopher McBride got out on the first ball but it was all doom after that for West Indies. Matthew Cross (74) and Brandon McMullen (69) added 125 for the second wicket as all hopes for West Indies were dashed. Scotland reached the target with seven wickets in hand and around six overs left. McMullen was awarded Man of the Match for his three wickets and 69 runs.

West Indies needed to finish in the top two in the Super Six stage after failing to get any carry-forward points in the stage post their loss to Zimbabwe and Netherlands. The 2023 ODI World Cup will begin on October 5 in India.

The match at Lauderhill's Central Broward Regional Park is part of a tri-series with Namibia, and also a seven-team competition which will reward the top three sides with berths in the final round of qualifiers for the 2023 World Cup in India.

USA have played three ODIs, including two at the 2004 Champions Trophy, and lost all of them.

USA, who played Canada at Manhattan's St George's Cricket Club in what is considered the first ever international cricket match in 1844, were granted ODI status in April and will play nine tri-series over the next two years.

"The team have worked really hard after our challenging journey through ICC World Cricket League Division 3 and Division 2," USA captain Saurabh Netravalka told the International Cricket Council.

"We are all really looking forward to giving it our best shot at our first ever home ODI series and the first ODI ever to be played in the USA.

"To be part of this is quite something...We hope our efforts will inspire the continued growth and development of cricket in the United States. And to start our journey in our aim to qualify for the ICC men's Cricket World Cup 2023."
