China investigates citizen accused of spying for CIA, says security ministry

<p>China on Friday (August 11) claimed to have recently uncovered a US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) "case of espionage" which involved a Chinese national named Zeng who provided "core secret information" for money.<br />
<br />
Beijing has been making efforts to combat spying, which includes the implementation of a revised anti-espionage law last month which gives more power to the authorities than ever to punish what looks&nbsp;like threats to national security.<br />
<br />
"After meticulous investigation, the state security authority obtained evidence of Zeng's espionage activities and, in accordance with the law, took coercive measures against him to eliminate the harm in a timely manner," said Beijing's Ministry of State Security, in a statement published online.<br />
<br />
However, no details on the punishment of Zeng were provided. The statement read that 52-year-old Zeng was sent to Italy for studies, where he made friends with a CIA agent who was stationed at the US embassy in Rome.</p>

US is aiding Kyiv's war effort through CIA's presence in Ukraine: Report

<p lang="en-US">CIA Director William Burns, who recently visited Ukraine and held talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky and intelligence officials, said that the war has given a 'once-in-a-generation opportunity' to recruit Russian spies.<br />
<br />
“Director Burns recently travelled to Ukraine, as he has done regularly since the beginning of Russia’s recent aggression more than a year ago,” the official said while speaking to CNN.<br />
<br />
“As with other trips, the director met with his Ukrainian intelligence counterparts and President Zelensky, reaffirming the US commitment to sharing intelligence to help Ukraine defend against Russian aggression,” he added.<br />

The official clarified that Burns travelled to Kyiv before the rebellion of Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, hence it was not discussed between the two leaders.</p>

CIA director calls Russia-Ukraine war 'once-in-a-generation opportunity' to recruit spies

Leaked Pentagon papers suggest Ukraine blew up the Nord Stream pipeline and the CIA knew about it at least 3 months before the attack, as did the European intel agency. Why did the White House then not stop Kyiv from bombing critical infrastructure?

Months after launching an investigation, the world still does not have a concrete answer to the question - Who was behind the Nord Stream blast? But a Washington Post now claimed that the attack was carried out by a group of special Ukrainian servicemen.

CIA chief praises India, China for raising nuclear weapons concerns that 'impacted' Russia

The day after the US senate passed a legislation aiming to ban TikTok from government devices. The CIA Director William Burns has spoken out as well as he calls it a genuine concern and says the Chinese regime could very well demand data from the Beijing-based company.

US vs TikTok: CIA Director speaks out on TikTok, William Burns calls concerns 'very real'

<p>The Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA's) director William Burns on Friday warned that United States citizens should be "really careful''&nbsp;on TikTok as many federal agencies including the White House banned the Chinese-owned video-sharing platform from government devices. &nbsp;</p>

<p>In an interview with PBS, Burns said that he shared concerns expressed by other US officials that TikTok could pose a danger to the country's national security.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I think it's a genuine concern, I think, for the US government in the sense that because the parent company of TikTok is a Chinese company, the Chinese government is able to… insist upon extracting the private data of a lot of TikTok users in this country and also to shape the content of what goes on to TikTok as well to suit the interests of the Chinese leadership,” Burns said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On being asked whether it was a good idea that some American lawmakers wanted to ban TikTok, Burns said, “Well, you know, in my role, see, this is where blessedly as an intelligence, in an intelligence role, I mean, I'm not going to offer judgments on those kind of policy or legislative decisions."</p>

The Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA's) director William Burns on Friday warned that United States citizens should be "really careful'' on TikTok as many federal agencies including the White House banned the Chinese-owned video-sharing platform from government devices. In an interview with PBS, Burns said that he shared concerns expressed by other US officials that TikTok could pose a danger to the country's national security. On being asked whether it was a good idea that some American lawmakers wanted to ban TikTok, Burns said, “Well, you know, in my role, see, this is where blessedly as an intelligence, in an intelligence role, I mean, I'm not going to offer judgments on those kind of policy or legislative decisions."
