"An honorary Palme to the artist, the filmmaker, the UNESCO ambassador, simply, a citizen of the world," said Lescure. &nbsp;

Speaking to Variety, Nawazuddin explains the various reasons that made him say yes to the film immediately. "For starters, the opportunity to work in a Christmas movie is something very different and immediately had my attention. The director, Roberto Girault, has shown his power and command over the camera, and the way he can unveil new sides to an actor. It is a welcome challenge that I often yearn for. And most importantly, the name, Laxman Lopez, had me instantly curious,” the actor said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, director Girault said, "I am very excited about this collaboration. This script is close to my heart and the transition of the story and the challenges that the lead character faces are sure to have everyone intrigued.”

Nawazuddin currently is in Cannes and on Tuesday the actor walked the red carpet as a part of the Indian delegation that went to represent India at the film festival. The other delegates who walked along with him were actors R Madhavan and Kamal Haasan, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, music composer AR Rahman and others. The delegation was led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.&nbsp;

India will also showcase five movies at the 'Goes to Cannes Section', Thakur said.

The Cannes Film Festival will open on its 75th anniversary next month with the screening of a film about zombies,'Z (Comme Z)'&nbsp;by Michel Hazanavicius, director of the award-winning film "The Artist." 
 
"It`s a zombie comedy that evokes passion for cinema," festival director Thierry Fremaux told a news conference on Thursday, recalling that the 2019 event had kicked off with a film from Jim Jarmusch on the same theme. 
 
The festival runs from May 17-28 and will feature heavy-hitters including Tom Cruise’s 'Top Gun' sequel and an Elvis biopic by Baz Luhrmann starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks.

In the category of first-time projects, the festival will feature a debut film from Maksim Nakonechnyi, shot recently in Ukraine. Entitled "Butterfly Vision," it traces the story of a young Ukrainian woman who returns to her country after being captured and then released in a prisoner swap.

Fremaux signalled an openness to platforms like Netflix while acknowledging he still had to try to convince those who disagreed with him. 
"It`s clear we have to acknowledge the existence of these new types of distribution and production, I think we need to maintain a dialogue with them," he said. 
 
Fremaux drew criticism from the French movie theatre industry in 2017 by allowing Netflix films - seen as a threat to the industry because they are streamed to subscribers rather than shown in cinemas - into the Cannes competition. 
 
Meanwhile, movie theatres around the world continue to face the challenge of bringing back audiences. 
"I hope the Cannes Film Festival will serve as a spark for the return of audiences to the movies, but for the moment there is not a big return and 
some countries are suffering from a loss of interest," he said.

There has never been a better time for women to enter the film industry, American superstar Jodie Foster told the Cannes festival on Wednesday, saying movies had too long been starved of female perspectives.

Addressing a large crowd of mostly young festival-goers in near-fluent French, she encouraged budding women filmmakers to seek their own truth and not try to please others.

"This is the moment for women to enter the industry," Foster said.

Although male domination of the industry had "not changed completely," she said, "there is now an awareness that it's been too long that we haven't heard stories told by women... This is the moment."

Foster received a lifetime achievement on Tuesday for her work that has included star turns in Taxi Driver and Bugsy Malone when she was a child, through to her Oscar-winning role in Silence of the Lambs. She has also directed several films, including Money Monster with George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

"I know it's a bit cliche to say 'tell your own stories'," Foster said. "But what I mean is: ask yourself questions about the truthfulness of things and whether they resonate within you, instead of pleasing others, be it the public or producers."

Foster said many young actors entered the movie business saying "I want to be looked at in my pretty clothes" which she said was the "worst reason" for taking up the profession.

"For some people it can take years, unfortunately, to cast off that armour that separates you from authenticity on the screen," she said.

Talking about her own experience, Foster said Pedro Almodovar -- who presented her with her honorary Palme the day before -- was "the first feminist director for me".

"It was the first time I'd seen films that talked about women in an authentic way," she said of the legendary Spanish director, who has made women central to many of his films.

Foster called Almodovar an exception among male directors who "can't easily transpose themselves into a woman's body and ask themselves what the complicated and complex experience of a woman consists of."

Oscar-winning producer of ‘Shrek’ to team up with Mexican animation house Huevocartoon Studios on a new feature, ‘The Alebrijes’. It will be introduced at the Cannes 2021 by Sydney-based outfit Odin’s Eye Animation.

As Cannes Film Festival 2021 kicked off today after a break of one year, first look of the film ‘Borrego’ premiered featuring actress and singer Lucy Hale.&nbsp;

Best known for her multi-award winning breakout role in ‘Pretty Little Liars’, Lucy Hale can be seen riding a motorbike in the first-look-image from ‘Borrego’.&nbsp;

‘Borrego’ is written and directed by Jesse Harris and it follows a young botanist (Lucy Hale) seeking isolation and redemption who relocates to a small desert town to study an invasive plant species. However, she ends up fighting for her survival after being kidnapped by an inexperienced drug mule (Leynar Gómez) when his ultralight plane crashes in the desert. The nearby small town’s Sheriff (Nicholas Gonzalez), his daughter (Olivia Trujillo) and drug receiver (Jorge A. Jimenez) all become intertwined in the odyssey.

The film has Damiano Tucci, Tiziano Tucci, Greg Lauritano, Nancy Cartwright, Monica Gil-Rodriguez and Harris on production. Lucy Hale serves as executive producer.&nbsp;
