According to The Guardian, producers of the New York magazine podcast Cover Story: Power Trip lodged the main complaint after they spoke to a number of participants. During their interviews, the podcast producers found that there were allegations of misbehaviour and physical assaults.

Richard Yensen, one of the therapists involved in the studies, was also accused of sexual assault by a subject called Meaghan Buisson. According to The Guardian, Buisson accused him of sexual assault constituting battery, but the file was not taken forward by the Canadian police and prosecutors.

Other complaints regarding the MDMA trials involved three patients alleging that their suicidal thoughts got worse over time as they were not allowed to take antidepressant medication.

“Maps is trying to be too many things,” said one psychotherapist who worked on Maps MDMA trials according to The Guardian. “They need to slow down and focus on the research that’s actually being done and doing quality long-term follow-ups while listening to and providing for their trial participants when they’re saying, ‘I need extra support,” he was further quoted in the report.

Dubbed as “Whiskey wars”, the NATO allies had been squabbling over Hans Island, situated at an equal distance between Greenland and Canada's Ellesmere Island, since 1971, when the dispute first emerged at a bilateral meeting to discuss territorial boundaries.

The conflict earned the moniker “Whisky War” due to military ships visiting the island and planting flags and bottles of Canadian whiskey or Danish schnapps to mark their territory.

Under the new agreement, both countries will hold a joint possession of the 1.2-square-kilometre mound of rock. The new border will divide the island roughly in half, following a natural ravine from north to south.

“We’re setting a precedent. We’re showing to other countries how territorial disputes can be solved,” Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said after a signing ceremony in Ottawa.

“It is possible to settle a disagreement, and it’s always the best way to do it through principles and norms that both parties recognise.”

“I think it was the friendliest of all wars,” Joly said, joking that she hopes Canada will now be able to participate in the Eurovision song contest due to its land border with Europe.

Joly and her Danish counterpart Minister Jeppe Kofod exchanged bottles of liquor at the ceremony marking the tradition, Politico reported.

The agreement will preserve freedom of movement on the island for Inuit Arctic people, for hunting, fishing and other activities.

The deal will be signed once both countries grant parliamentary approval and will see the island split along a naturally occurring cleft on the rocky outcrop, according to a deal published by the Danish foreign ministry on Tuesday.

Once signed off, Canada and Denmark will have established the world's longest maritime border at 3,882km.

Quebec province of Canada has no minimum age requirement to work. Parental authorisation lets children under 14 seek employment. Also, there is no limit on number of hours worked provided work is not during school hours or at night for those who are 18 years old.

"After the pandemic, we found ourselves with major hiring problems," said business owner Marie-Eve Guertin, who had to turn to employees under 15 this year for the first time in almost a decade of operating the restaurant. She was quoted by AFP.

"For full-time jobs, it's very difficult. I haven't received any resumes," Guertin said, so she turned to teenagers to keep her business afloat.

"You want to grow a business, you don't want to restrict it," she said, wanting to avoid reducing opening hours as many other restaurants have done.

"I wanted a part-time job, work hours here and there, to earn some pocket money," said Sofia-Rose Adams, a 13-year-old who works in Guertin's cafe.

Guertin has other teenaged girls working in her cafe. Seven of the eight employees of the small business are under 18 years old.

Half of Quebecers aged 15 to 19 have jobs, as per statistics quoted by AFP.

"I started working at 14," said Philippe Marcil, now 17 and an employee of a men's clothing store in a Montreal suburb.

"I understood from a young age that it was important to gain experience in the labor market, so I wanted to experiment with that," said the young man, who previously worked for two years as a supervisor at a fast food chain.

Charles Fleury, a sociologist and industrial relations professor at Laval University in Quebec City, said child labor "has always been somewhat present in Quebec, especially if we compare to European countries."&nbsp;

Teenagers readily taking up jobs before finishing school has begun to stir concerns. Quebec Minister of Labor Jean Boulet recently commented that he did not find it "normal" for 11-year-old children to be working and suggested that Quebec was considering legislation to better regulate the work of most youth.

Canada: Teenagers being hired by businesses to tackle labour shortage

Canada's COVID-19 vaccination requirement for domestic and outbound travelers, as well as federal bureaucrats and transportation workers, will be suspended starting next week, officials said Tuesday.

Masking, however, will still be required on planes and trains.

"I'm pleased to announce that on June 20 our government will suspend the requirement to be vaccinated in order to board a plane or train in Canada," Transport Minister Omar Alghabra told a news conference.

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic Leblanc added that this will not, however, immediately ease a logjam at Canadian airports.

That problem, along with delays in the issuing of passports, sparked a public outcry in recent weeks, as more and more Canadians seek to take trips after more than two years of pandemic restrictions and lockdowns.

The mandatory vaccine policy for travelers was rolled out last October, and Alghabra warned it could be reimposed in the fall if COVID-19 cases jump back up.

More than 90 per cent of Canadians have received two Covid vaccine doses, while about half have also received a booster, according to government figures.

Canada lifts Covid vaccine mandate for domestic, outbound travel

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 - his second bout with the illness this year - but that he was feeling OK and isolating, per health guidelines.

Trudeau was at the Summit of the Americas in California last week, where he met with U.S. President Joe Biden and other leaders to discuss issues impacting the region. He returned to Ottawa on Saturday.

"I`ve tested positive for COVID-19. I`ll be following public health guidelines and isolating. I feel okay, but that`s because I got my shots," Trudeau said in a tweet, urging others to get vaccinated or boosted, if eligible.

Trudeau`s itinerary also included bilateral meetings with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader on Friday.

Canada PM Justin Trudeau tests positive for COVID after Americas summit

A Canadian man who rammed his rental van into a crowd in Toronto in 2019 was sentenced to life in prison on Moday (June 13). He will not get parole for first 25 years of his sentennce. He act of ramming the car into the crowd had caused 11 deaths.

Alek Minassian, the convict, was 25 at the time of the attack. He was found guilty by a Canadian judge just over a year ago, in March 2021.&nbsp;

On April 23, 2018, Minassian drove a white rental van at full speed down streets and sidewalks in the Canadian metropolis, aiming at passers-by for a little more than a mile.&nbsp;

Ten people were killed and 16 injured in the attack -- but the death toll rose to 11 at the end of October 2021 when an injured woman who had spent more than three years in hospital also succumbed to her injuries.&nbsp;

It was the worst attack in Toronto's history.&nbsp;

The sentence came within three weeks of Canada's Supreme Court striking down cumulative sentences for murderers. The provision of the criminal code dated back to 2011. It allowed judges to impose extremely long prison sentences on killers who caused numerous deaths.

The Court concluded that a prison sentence which "greatly exceeds the life expectancy of any human person is degrading by its absurdity and, therefore, contrary to human dignity".&nbsp;

"I'm definitely not satisfied," Elwood Delaney, whose grandmother died in the attack, told reporters. 
Minassian "sat there, showed no emotion, barely looked up at anybody reading an impact statement," adding, "I hold a lot of anger towards that man."

Ten people were killed and 16 injured in the attack -- but the death toll rose to 11 at the end of October 2021 when an injured woman who had spent more than three years in hospital also succumbed to her injuries. It was the worst attack in Toronto's history. The sentence came within three weeks of Canada's Supreme Court striking down cumulative sentences for murderers. The provision of the criminal code dated back to 2011. It allowed judges to impose extremely long prison sentences on killers who caused numerous deaths. The Court concluded that a prison sentence which "greatly exceeds the life expectancy of any human person is degrading by its absurdity and, therefore, contrary to human dignity". "I'm definitely not satisfied," Elwood Delaney, whose grandmother died in the attack, told reporters. Canada is all set to become the world's first country to put health warnings on individual cigarettes. The country had previously set an international trend after passing a mandate to include graphic photo warnings on tobacco products' packaging two decades ago.

"We need to address the concern that these messages may have lost their novelty, and to an extent, we worry that they may have lost their impact as well," said Canadian Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Carolyn Bennett.

"Adding health warnings on individual tobacco products will help ensure that these essential messages reach people, including the youth who often access cigarettes one at a time in social situations, sidestepping the information printed on a package."

"These are deadly products, and these measures will help to further reduce their appeal to youth and non-smokers, as well as to support current smokers in their efforts to quit."

Meanwhile, Rob Cunningham, a senior policy analyst at the Canadian Cancer Society said, "This is going to set a world precedent. It's a warning that you simply cannot ignore. It's going to reach every smoker, with every puff."
